HELP! Files suddenly disappear

Hi,
I am using Macbook pro and running OS X 10.5.7
I have partitioned my drive to have boot camp to boot Windows Vista
So disk1 is my Mac drive and Untitled is Windows. I used NTFS-3G and MacFUSE to mount to Windows
I have logged to Mac and copied whole bunch of videos (*mov) to Untitled drive.
I have successfully played those files in Mac after I copied. However after I have rebooted the machine, I no longer see those files in Untitled drive! The disk space is still the same as after I copied the files so I think those files should be still in the drive, but I can't see them, not search them!
I have used few data recovery software to try to find them but failed! What should I do? I really need help

I've got a new Macbook and last week I completed installing VM Fusion and Idrive online backup. Everything seeemed to be working fine until yesterday. I found that several folders were missing from the Apple side of my computer.
I ran a comparison of the files on my computer with the Idrive online backup and found that a about 200 files were just gone. They weren't in my deleted folder or anywhere on my computer. But Idrive had made backup copies of them within the last few days (since I did my first full backup run).
The missing files seemed to be all over my computer and many different types: .tiff .gif. htm. .pkg. zip. pdf. as well as about 30 folders of spreadsheets, documents and photos.
At this point I don't know which technical files to restore?
Whether to continue the Idrive backup?
How to prevent recurrence of this problem?
Any advice will be appreciated.

I have an ipad and lately my files suddenly disappear, my pictures, my music, my videos. I don'n know what is going on. Can anybody help?

It sounds like maybe the iPad is crashing? ....
Double tap the home button at the bottom of the iPad to bring up the recents tray. If you have a lot of apps running you may want to close some of them. Tap and hold down on one of the icons until they wiggle. Then tap the minus sign to close them. When you are done, tap the home button once to return to the home screen.
Then reboot your iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears, then slide to power down.
Hold on the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and then go of the button and let the iPad restart.
You can also try a hard reset by holding down on the sleep button and home button at the same time for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears, let go of the buttons and the iPad will restart.

Help -- files suddenly losing "Date Modified"

I have an external USB drive that I use for backing up important files. I use File Synchronizer to sync folders on my internal drive(s) with their counterparts on this external drive. Today when attempting to sync my Photos folder, I was shocked to see that FS flagged all my photos as needing to be copied to the external drive. It turns out that the reason is that all the files on my external drive suddenly show up as having no Date Modified, which FS interprets as 12/31/1969 !!!
Does anyone know what may have caused this and how to fix it?

Terminal requires complete file paths in the UNIX style, using slashes between parts of the path. The root of all paths for files on mounted volumes is "Volumes" but if that is omitted the path defaults to the startup volume. Type the command up to the place where you need to enter a path (including typing the space just before it). If you need to follow one path with another, just type the single space that must separate them & drag the other file path into the window. Obviously, if the second path doesn't exist yet, you can't do this but you can drag the enclosing item into the window & type the final part of the path yourself. You can also use copy & paste within Terminal: copy by dragging across text with the pointer to highlight it, copy, then paste at the cursor.

Image files suddenly disappeared

After downloading hundreds of photos from my memory card to my Mac, I revied them, edited a few, and noted down other numbers of photos I wanted to edit later. When I looked for these images (5 min later) they had completely vanished from my drive. Seriously, I looked everywhere for them. They're not in the trash and the Spotlight can't locate them Anywhere. What happened? Has anyone had this happen to them?

thank you very, very much for the tip to use EasyFind. It worked and found the missing files in my Canon download program's trash. I simply selected all and moved them to the picture's library folder they were supposed to go into.

If you went to Full screen mode then it's hidden at the top. Move your cursor to the top of the screen and it will appear. You can click the arrows on the very right to exit full screen mode.

Event titles remain, but why did the individual photo titles change into numbers after an upgrade to iPhoto 11?
Why does clicking the iPhoto Help button pop open a new window and promptly invoke the beach ball of death which remains even with iPhoto closed but stops when the App Store app is closed?

When you installed iPhoto 11 did you create a new library and import your old library into it? If so that was not the way to upgrade the library. The correct way is to just open your old library with the new iPhoto application and let the application upgrade the library.
If efforts to repair the corrupted library fail you may have to start over with a new library as follows:
Start over from scratch with new library
Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:
1. Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
2. Open the library package like this.

3. Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
4. Drag the Origianls (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.

This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects.
The Help file issue might be corrected by running BatChmod on the iPhoto application with the settings shown in this screenshot.

Illustrator Help File disappeared

I've consulted 'Illustrator Help' from the Help menu quite often but it is no longer there (I'm using CS3). Is there another way to access it other than the main menu 'Help,' or how do I get it to return there?

It's back. It seems that after using Illustrator with complex files for some time the undos eat up the memory and perhaps the Illustrator Help file is one thing that is dropped.

Help: Calendar entries disappear on Pearl 8100

I have a BB Pearl 8100 and have the problem that calendar entries disappear from the device. Entries as recent as those from the previous week all of a sudden disappear. I have re-synchronized several times (I use Outlook 2003 for calendar and contacts), and the entries stay in the device for a few days but after a week or so, all past appointments, except the recurring ones, just disappear. I don't have a problem with contacts, and I don't synchronize emails, so the issue is only Calendar.
I have the Options set in my device to keep appointment forever, so that does not seem to be the problem.
Does anyone know how to fix this?

I don't have ringtones, music or videos in the BB. However, I have 30,600 bytes "File Free", out of 64mm "File Total". I guess this would qualify as very little memory left. Doesn't make sense though, since the only things I have in the device are my contacts and the calendar. What could be using up the memory?

Non purchased itunes music has suddenly disappeared

All of the music in my itunes on my pc has suddenly disappeared, with the exception of the (small) amount of music that I have downloaded from the itunes store. I am assuming that the files are still on my pc hard drive somehwere but that itunes for some reason is no longer locating them. Any suggestions anybody?! Thanks.

I am having the same problem, upgrade of computer from Dell 754 to Dell 900, XP to 7 so because I do not have an external harddrive, have synced my iPod touch to my new iTunes on new computer. Now my delimma is how do I get the 'purchased' iTunes list to my music library. This is 700+ songs not seen in my music library.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

On Finder Freeze/Relaunch All my desktop files & icons disappear

The title sums it up.
When ever my mac decides to go into spinning wheel mode and I have to force quit/relaunch finder, when I relaunch finder every desktop file & icon disappear.
At that point I'm forced to push the shutdown button on the tower and reboot, then all is well until the next time.
And the next time could be a day or a few days or a week. No rhyme or reason why.
Please help me solve this frustrating problem.

Cloud backup plans can slow your Mac down, and if used simultaneously with your Mac's networking, or you have an unreliable internet connection, could be the cause of your freezes. You may be better off seeing if turning off iCloud temporarily helps. This can especially be a problem with non-Apple routers whose firmware may not be up to date. Multitasking with backups can lead to corruption of your backups. Time Machine should only backup to hard drives twice the capacity of the original, otherwise it spends a lot of time trying to discover which archives to eraes to maintain room. Energy Saver can also create problems for backups, as it takes a moment for the Mac to recognize the connection. Use screen saver instead of Energy Saver when backing up. System Preferences lets you control both. Putting hard drives to sleep when backing up is ill advised.

Help file open and disapper with flash

I am facing a very strange problem.In the application help open and disappear,but CHM files are available in the program files.
Where can be the problem?

1. It WON'T show up in your Start menu because it's a "plugin" for another program and not a program itself. You can find it in C/Windows/System32/Macromed/Flash and C/Windows/SysWOW64/Macromed/Flash
2. In your Control Panel under System and Security, you'll find the Global Settings Manager - Flash Player (32bit). THAT won;t be there if it isn't installed.
IE 11 has had numerous problems with numerous sites, which Microsoft has been aware of since October 18 when they released their latest "untested" browser. There's something not right in the code. The pages can't recognize the browser, so they don't recognize any of the plugins, like Flash Player. So far, Microsoft has made NO indication that they have any plan to fix it soon.
Microsoft's recommendation is to use Compatibility View for affected pages, and "pretend" you're using an different browser. Trouble with that is it has seen limited success at best, and you have to individually enable it for EVERY page that has problems.
I'm not big on "pretending" so I recommend actually using another browser.
Firefox (from Mozilla)
Opera (from Opera)
Safari (from Apple)
Chrome (from Google)
ANY of those will work where IE11 won't, with the Flash Player Plug-in (For all other browsers), and Chrome doesn't even need that because it has its own Flash Player plugin built in.

In terms of searching i have searched for photos on my finder. However, none of the photos that appear are from my iPhoto Library.

I've tried importing and restoring from bookmarks.html. The closest I get is having the XBOX folder in the dropdown, then the list of saved XBOX b-marks with nothing in them to actually go to.
I looked at the places.sqlite file the other day and it said 0kb, now it has @11,000. Must be from recent activity.
Anyway someone can control my pc and try to resolve this? If not, I guess these bookmarks weren't that important so oh well.
I'm just afraid to try to organize the rest....

In File Upload the file name disappears once a drop-down option is chosen

There is a pop-up which contains File Upload UI element, an input field and a drop-down list. After specifying the file path, if i choose an option from the drop-down list, the file path disappears. However, the context attribute still holds the file path but at the UI level its not visible to the user. Please let me know what could be done for that.

Thanks a lot for your reply. It was really helpful.
When contacted the framework people, they informed that once a file name is being specified in the client and a roundtrip is performed, in the meantime the file gets uploaded to the server. The file path is reset afterwards, in order to prevent the file from being transferred again and again.
