Help! Final Cut Studio broke Quicktime!

A G5 at work used for multimedia production started having a lot of problems, including, but not limited to, QT not launching. I erased the hard drive and reinstalled Tiger (x.4.6). QT launched as it should. Alright! Then I reinstalled Final Cut Studio. Now QT will not launch. Neither will Soundtrack. I deleted all QT prefs, installed the ProAppRuntime.pkg (read that in a post in the FCP forum). Did all the things I could find posted in Discussions. Nothing. I REALLY need this computer to be back up and running. Any and all help would be appreciated!

Sorry for the long delay in replying.
I'd already tried trashing the QT prefs (it was QT that wasn't working). Alas, trashing the FCP prefs didn't help. I erased the hard drive again and started over. This time I installed OS x.4.5, which is what it was running originally. I then installed the FCS apps one at a time. After some painstaking troubleshooting, it turned out that QT 7.0.4 stopped running the second FCP 5 was installed. Downgrading to QT 7.0.3 fixed that. All the FCS apps were then updated to the latest versions, except for Soundtrack. Even under QT 7.0.3, Soundtrack had to remain at 1.0 to work. As far as I know (it's not my computer), everything works fine now.
I've since found a couple posts about QT 7.0.4 not launching if FCP is installed. I guess I didn't use the right search term when I was looking for this before having to erase the HD twice! Oh well.
Thanks for your input.

  • Final cut studio 3, quicktime pro

just installed final cut studio on new laptop.
i thought it came with quicktime pro, but can only find quicktime.
does that mean another $29 investment?
if it's there, where can i find it?
    many thanks,
    berniej

I found this thread after having the same problem. I went through the steps suggested, but it didn't help me. I still have the regular QT instead of the Pro version. Any thoughts?

  • Final Cut Studio destroyed Quicktime in Safari

I just installed Final Cut Studio on my Macbook running 10.4.7 which installs version 7.1.2 of quicktime pro. But now Safari won't play any quicktime movies though my Firefox and Flock browsers will play QTmovies. I'd download and reinstall quicktime normally but Final Cut Studio doesn't give me a serial number for QTPro so I suspect that if I reinstall quicktime I'll wind up with no more quicktime pro or at the minimum I'd have to uninstall Final Cut Studio and reinstall to get QTPro and might be back in the same loop
Anyone have any experience with this or think of a way around getting Safari to show quicktime movies?

    Yes...it "unlocks" Quicktime Pro.

  • Does Final Cut Studio have QuickTime Pro?

I have Final Cut Studio. I have been told part of the package is QuickTime Pro. If this is true, how do I activate it?

How do you backup registration information? Is this something done routinely by Time Machine?
Most of my applications have a registration code and either a purchaser name or email address. I am simply creating TextEdit files containing this information and storing them in a centralized folder which is then copied to each of my RAID drives for archiving, as well as, 2 USB thumb dives for mobile access. In addition, since Apple no longer backs up my QT MPEG-2 Playback component, I am storing the last three versions of this component on the same storage devices. As to Time Machine, it backs up changes to applications and documents which may or may not include the registration information depending on how it is stored relative to the application to which it refers. Unfortunately, I may manipulate hundreds of GBs of video data in a single day so I had to turn off Time Machine because it was not able to keep up will all the changes. The Time Machine-like routines that track changes at the application level under Lion are good enough for my normal daily work. My main interst is the protection of several TBs of archived documents and projects on the external RAID drives. If push comes to shove on the main system, I can always re-initialize/replace the internal drive and re-install the System OS and applications. (I.e., I don't keep anything on the internal or external boot drives that I can't afford to lose.)

  • What is the benefit of "Enable Final Cut Studio color compatibility" in QT?

    Hi(Bonjour)!
What is the benefit of "Enabling Final Cut Studio " in Quicktime player?
I'm used to calibrate my monitor to a less bright gamma, suitale for monitoring video content.
So does the +color compatibility option+ can give me more precision when I color correct my movies?
    Michel Boissonneault

It does the same thing. The only difference is that the pref is active only when the QT player is active. So the gamma is not effected in other parts of the system.

  • Quicktime error in Final Cut Studio II

    Hello everybody,
since yesterday I am figthing with the following problem in Final Cut Studio II.
First I wanted to export my subtitles through the XML Export in Final Cut Pro 7.0.3 but this did not work out, as it looks like the stack had an overflow and it says: "XML translation was aborted due to a critical error".
As I tested, some smaller projects are possible to export XML but not my main project.
I looked for different fixes as the system and the projects worked some days before.
Then I checked if I can Export the Sequences with compressor as I allways did and I get an error "Failed: QuickTime Error -50" after some processing time!
This is the content that is getting logged by the Console:

Thank you for any help on this issue!
By the way, after seening this issue for some time in OS X 10.6.8 I upgraded to 10.7.1 and it did not change anything to the situation.
To me it looks like a plugin conflict but deleting of Caches and .plist's did not change anything to the situation!
    Please help!!!
    Best Regards,
    Chris

After some peacefull time my system crashed completely on Friday!
I installed all from Scratch to make sure its not some old stuff that I carried on during migration.
It's not a problem with the motion files as I deleted all of them and XML export is still crashing!
The situation is, that after installing it all I got the same quicktime translation error again and I am quite angry about how Apple handles clients who are working on projects with the recent FCP story.
Unfortunately due to the problems in exporting XML I am not even able to switch to Adobe Premier as this is the only way to import there.
After a lot of testing I am quite sure, that this issue has to do something with an Apple Update release between June 2011 and now.
Conclusion: Final Cut Studio II is not working correctly anymore as it did before June 2011!!! Apple, Please fix this issue asap.!!!!

  • Help please importing mpeg files to be edited with Final Cut Studio

Hey everyone, new to the video editing thing. I have a JVC GY-HM100U Pro HD camcorder and a MacBook Pro 5,1 with 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, 4 GB 1067 MHz DPR3, NVIDIA GeForce 9400M & NVIDIA GeForce 9600MGT running OSX 10.5.8. Have recorded footage in mpeg4 and want to now edit using Final Cut Pro 7. Have downloaded Quicktime Pro and am still getting a "the movie could not be opened when trying to import the mp4 file. The movie contains some invalid data" window when trying to open the mpeg4 file. I have also downloaded DivX, FF Player, & Handbrake if these help convert to another supported file format. Please help!

That camera is promoted on the JVC website as being Final Cut Pro compatible.
Have you tried to import the clips via Log & Transfer?
You might also want to read up on the [workflow for that type of camera|http://documentation.apple.com/en/finalcutpro/professionalformatsandwork flows/#chapter=6%26section=0].
    Have downloaded Quicktime Pro....
QuickTime Pro is installed automaticallly with Final Cut Studio. No need to buy it again.
I have also downloaded DivX, FF Player, & Handbrake...
That software is all pretty much useless for working with Final Cut Studio.
MPEG Streamclip is free and much better.

I scoured the forums and couldn't find anything. If there is something please lead me to it.

  • Quicktime Pro does not install with Final Cut Studio

I have an iMac with software version 10.5.7. I installed Final Cut Studio 2 (Final Cut version 6.05). With other similar installations on an iMac, Quicktime Pro came as a normal part of the software. On this iMac, the Pro version of Quicktime did not get installed. Is there a way to `unlock` it? Thanks

Final Cut Studio install should "unlock" the QuickTime Player Pro features.
What makes you think you do not have it?

  • Is Quicktime Pro included with Final Cut Studio?

Wikipedia's article on Quicktime Pro says that a Quicktime Pro license comes with Final Cut Studio. Is that true?
I have OS X 10.5.8 and FCS 2, but I can't even tell if I have Quicktime Pro. I see Quicktime Player in my applications folder (version 7.6.6), but I don't see Quicktime Pro.
Is Wikipedia right that I got a QT Pro license with FCS? If so, how do I activate it?
If not, do I just purchase the upgrade from the Apple Store? How do I install/activate the upgrade it?
    Thanks

I'd like to re-open this topic. I'm not sure that I have QT Pro either. I recently upgraded the OS to 10.6.4--which included a new QT Player [10.0 (114)]. None of the pro features are there--or the old preferences (or the QT System Prefs). I don't use QT Pro features much, and it's only been about a month since the upgrade, so I didn't notice until now. I used to have it. Did I miss something?

  • Help with installing Final Cut Studio package

I have a copy of Final Cut Studio 2.0.1. I would like to know if there is a way to create an image file to combine all disks into 1 file. This would help in installing, since I only have one set of disks. I don't want to risk ruining any of the disks, since I have a lab of 30 computers to install Final Cut Studio 2 on.
    I have the following disks:
    Final Cut Studio Install
    Audio Content 1
    Audio Content 2
    Audio Content 3
    Motion Content
    LiveType Media 1
    LiveType Media 2
    DVD Studio Pro Content
Thanks, any help is greatly appreciated.

Shane, I have all 8 FCP disks saved as a dmg file. I am currently storing these in a share on our NEW Apple XSERVE. I have tried mounting all of the 8 dmg files to the desktop of the iMac, that I'm wanting to install on. But this takes an unusally long time, I cancelled it after a couple days of it trying to mount the images to the desktop.
I'm very green to using Apples, just something that has been dropped in my lap.
Is there a way that I can mount these images in the folder on the Xserve? of is using a portable HDD the only way to do it.
