HELP! Finder can't find my 2nd HD anymore!

My problem is, my 2nd HD is gone! I have my OS in my primary which is why I can still boot and go online, but my documents and whatnot are in the other and Finder doesn't recognize it! Disk Utility and System Profiler won't recognize my 2nd drive either.
Last thing I did before this: I downloaded some mpg and mp3 files unattended overnight and have been playing them this morning and all of a sudden, and among all the multitasking, I think a mpg file playing on VLC caused a heavy busy signal - I couldn't even forcequit VLC because Finder was hungup too.
So I decided to restart.
I restarted by shutting down on the Mac's power button (pressing it couple seconds). And again the powerbutton.
My specs:
OS X 10.3.9
G4 1.3GHz OWC upgrade
768 MB RAM
I still do have my OS9 so I could try locating the 2nd drive that way, but how can I fix it there? Any info would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
Steve

Yep it sure did mess up my directory.
So this is weird. I zapped my PRAM during startup and Finder found the secondary HD. I ran Disk Utility and the directory was damaged so had that repaired. Cured the problem. But I still think the primary startup disk is a little messed up too. Stalls a bit sometimes. Have to start from a CD and repair that as well. Thanks for the input.

    There is no Siri "icon". You access Siri using the Home button. But you may need to turn it on: Settings App > General > Siri. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4992
    Same for the FaceTime function (but if it is ON, there will be an icon): Settings App > FaceTime > [turn it on and set you Apple ID. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4319

  • Finder can't find / display files in external drive

    Just upgraded to Lion on my MacBook, and Finder can't find / display files from my external thumb drive. I got message that the external drive was removed incorrectly, but I did not remove the thumb drive at all. After several attempts on removing and inserting the thumb drive, the files just didn't show up under Finder, and I have no way of working on files from external drive. I went to a Window based notebook and checked, the files are still in my thumb drive so they have not been corrupted, hopefully. How can I make Finder works with external drive in Lion ?

    The problem I have was finally resolved by having a "clean" install for Lion, meaning to back up your hard disc, re-install Snow Leopard, then Lion. It's a lot of work but my MacBook is now working.

  • Finder can't find Lacie Quadra disks

    Hi,
    I'm having trouble with the consistency of finding my external Lacie Quadra disks in Finder. It was there, and I restarted the computer and now Finder can't find the disks, although it's connected and switched on. I'm used to Windows on a Dell, and that always closes down the external disks so the computer can be restarted, but the Mac dpesn't seem to do that. Now they can't be found. I tried Disk Utility, but the disks can't even be verified, and can't be mounted either. WHen Finder does find the  disks it takes often several minutes, and it's very inconsistent. Not very reliable. Does anyone know what's wrong?

    I opened the disk on my Dell, which had no trouble finding it. Checked that it was OK, and then closed it down so it could be removed safely. I reconnected it to the Mac, and after a LONG while, the disk was finally recognised in Finder. As a long time Windows user, I'm certainly not impressed by the MacBook Pro! I only got it to use for photography in the field, as it is so much lighter than the Dell, but this inconsistency won't do. If I have to bring the Dell to repair the disk when the Mac can't find it, there's not much point is there...

  • Finder can not  find and display certain files. Why? Any fix,please?

    I've discovered to my surprise that Finder can not  find and display certain files. Computer is Mac book OS X (10.6.8)
    No matter what Finder settings I use, there are files which it can not detect and display.
    Here are just some examples of files sitting in the HD but Finder can not display them:
    Located in  preference panes :
    fibre channel 1.7
    Located in :    /Library/StartupItems/BRESINKx86Monitoring
    BRESINKx86Monitoring
    FxLicenseManager
    Located in    /Library/StartupItems/FxLicenseManager
    EAP8021X
    Located in    /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/EAP8021X.framework
    The questions:
    What to make of this inability of Finder to ,well, find? (again - I tried all possible settings of Finder!)
    Is there any way to fix it?
    Thanks for any competent suggestion!

    Well, guys,
    Interesting suggestions but the problem remains -Finder (aka Spotlight) is not capable to find certain files.Period.
    I consider it as a fault of the system because in comparison, a search facility of a plain Windows based machine is capable to dig out and display any file, no matter now deeply hidden...
    As far as the suggestion above by softwater  goes , well, I've used the additional foptions  extensively and nothing produced the result needed -that's why I created this discussion.
    If someone still believes that using Finder with all its options is good enough, here is a test for you to perform on your own Mac:
    -Open  /Library/StartupItems/ and have a look inside - most likely you have a bunch of items. Write down the names of one or two of them. For this test I've chosen
    FxLicenseManager  located in    /Library/StartupItems/. You can use any file you want grom this location...
    - Then go to  Finder and set it to display everything in Library of the HD. Remember - for this test you pretend you don't know any file name in this folders.
    If the Finder works properly it shall display  folders  of Library >Startup items with all stuff inside, including the FxLicenseManager file I used for this test.
    Finder displayed nothing. It is obvious that for Finder, certain locations are off limits. That's why I consider Finder as a faulty.
    Of course if someone can set the Finder's  options to do the above search and succeed, I'll be glad to try ...:-)
    At this point, what I gather from this discussion is that :
    1. Finder (Spotlight) feature is not to be trusted,despite number of fancy but rather useless options.
    2. If you need to really find everything usually not displayed by Finder you better get real  searching software.

  • When syncing my iPhone with iTunes, I get the error, "some items did not sync, see itunes for help", but can't find any helps for this in iTunes. Where can I find out what is not syncing?

    When syncing my iPhone with my iPhone, I get a message that 2 items did not sync - use iTunes for help.
    But I can't find any help information in iTunes at all, let alone when items are not syncing.
    How do I figure out what is not syncing?

    Since it seems App related, I'm not sure what to offer you.  I guess the only suggestion I have is for you to reboot your iPad and then try again.  To reboot, hold the power and home buttons at the same time for at least 10 seconds (keep holding past the swipe to shut down bar if it appears) until the Apple Logo appears, then let go of both buttons and your iPad will restart.  You won't lose any settings or data, so it's worth a shot.

    Try looking in your User folder.
    Either hold down the option key while using the Finder “Go To Folder” command and select your user Library in your home folder or use the Finder “Go To Folder” command and enter ~/Library/Mail/V2
    If you prefer to make your User library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below.
    Show User Library
    You might want to bookmark the command. I have to use it again after every update. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.

  • Help Me , can't find what is wrong :S Simple code

    Hello everyone, im'm back =P ...well the problem is : I can't find what's wrong with this code above. The output shoul be "-1" but it prints -4 , it should print the min. value of an array. An absolute value to do that , its simple just do: e.g ( if ( n < 0 ) n = n * -1 ; and then check what is the min. value of the array. I just copied the content of the first array to the second .
    damn...what is wrong? :S
    public static void main (String[] xxx) {
         int [] array = {7,-4,-1,2}
        System.out.print( "The shortest number is: "+ minValue(array));
          static int minValue(int [] x ) {
        int []  newarray = new int [x.length];
        int min = mat[0];
        for( int i = 0; i !=x.length; ++i) {
       if ( i < o)  i = i * -1;
       else i = i * 1;
        newarray[i] = x[i] ;
            for (int i = 0; i != mat.length; ++i) {
          if ( min > mat[i] )  min = mat;
    }return min;
    Thanks!!! I realy need your help plz!

    Almost!!!!! :D
    it returns 1 , should return -1 LOLO this is an exercise for practice, because i've the final test tomorrow .
    Is the last one , and i'm getting annoying of it :P.
    That's why i copied the 1st to the 2 array (but without the signal).
    U must ignore the signal when it checks, but it must print the number even if it has the signal . E.g -1 , u check ignoring the signal and the ouput must be: -1
    :S

    I can't find the pictures which I took on my camera, I still have lots of memory left, they are hidden or something . Oh and the other thing is that when I'm trying to save a picture as something that I like its say the the directory is full even when I put a single letter. I have a huge space on my memory card, I don't know what's wrong . Please help. Thanks

    See if you can boot into safe mode by holding down the shift key immediately after pressing the start button. Keep holding the shift key till a loading progress bar appears on the lower part of the screen. It will take a lot longer than normal to start this way. If you have Lion 10.7 installed you can try holding command-R  keys to get intto recovery mode and run disk utility.

  • Help, iTunes can't find my music

    I am trying to make space on my mac book pro HD because I am switching over from a 500gb 7200RPM drive to a 128 solid state HD. I moved my iTunes library over to an external drive and set the folder in preferences to point at the Itunes library on the external dive and Itunes says it can't play any of my music because it can't find the files. I have checked the file size of the file on the external and it is 15 gb - the files are there but iTunes can't connect to it.
    Any one goy any ideas?

  • HELP - iMac can't find system file for start-up

    Hi,
    My Rev. B iMac (running OS 9.2) suddenly can't find the system file. I was working in MS Word for Mac when the system crashed. Upon start-up the computer couldn't find the system and showed a flashing question mark in an old floppy disk icon.
    I started from my original OS 8.5 Install disk and ran disk utilities. That fixed a problem that was detected.
    BUT the flashing disk continued at start-up.
    I tried to "re-bless" the system folder as described in the Apple iMac trouble shooting guide, but no luck.
    All my data is still on the hard drive, I just can't get the machine to start from the hard drive -- it will only start from the Install CD.
    Any ideas on how I can get it to start up?
    I really don't want to reinstall OS 8.5 and then go through the upgrade to get back to OS 9.2 again if I don't have to!
    Thanks,
    Mike

    Hi, Michael -
    Welcome to Apple's Discussions.
    I really don't want to reinstall OS 8.5 and then go through the upgrade to get back to OS 9.2 again if I don't have to!
    Installing OS 8.5 is not needed, since there is no update available to take any version of OS 8 to any version of OS 9. An OS 9 install must start with a full-install CD; for your model, that means any retail OS 9 Install CD (white label, gold 9).
    What version of OS 9 was on the hard drive - OS 9.2.1, or OS 9.2.2?
    What version OS 9 Install CD do you have available?

  • Help! can't find i phone notes on my macbook

    i have a lot of notes on my iphone and they are syncing to my macbook but i can't find them anywhere on my macbook. i use entourage as my mail program but none of my iphone notes are in the note function on entourage. where are they?? what settings do i need to change so these notes show up in entourage?

    You're welcome.
    If your Mac is running 10.5.7 or later, at the Mail.app menu bar go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts.
    Select the email account you created with the Mail.app.
    Under the Mailbox Behaviors tab for the account preferences, do you have Show Notes in Inbox selected?
    If so, notes synced with the Mail.app will be in the account's Inbox mailbox.
    If this is not selected under the Mailbox Behaviors tab for the account preferences, there should be a Notes selection under REMINDERS in the Mail.app mailboxes drawer where the notes can be selected and viewed.

  • Finder can't find old files/folders prior to SL update from Leopard

    Hello.
    I'm having problems with Finder tool. I've read some topics and even tried some terminal commands to no avail. My wife's account can't find her quicken files prior to update. She is a well organized person and now has to go into the folders to find the files instead of a quick spotlight seach.
    Will I have to restore her profile again from timecapsule? How can I get finder to find right again?
    A little more details of upgrade: I've got 2 machines, and Imac and a macbook. The 2nd one is ok. On it I did the upgrade straght on top of the old system. On the Imac the procedure was different. I set the machine to zero and put SL and then pulled the timecapsule backup, that was still on Leopard. Would that cause a confloct on finder? Only the Imac can't find the older files, prior to the update.
    I'm thinking of restoring the timecapsule backup again to Leopard on the Imac and upgrading like i did on the macbook.
    If there's and easier way to restore the finder's abililites to find, I'd surelly apreciate it. Saves me a lot of trouble having all done again on the Imac.
    Thx

    I'm thinking of restoring the timecapsule backup again to Leopard on the Imac and upgrading like i did on the macbook.
    Best move.
