Help finding dvd rom for powerbook G3 M3553

I have an apple laptop powerbook G3 M3553 with mac os 8 and am wondering if I can get an internal dvd rom??? Any help is much appreciated!!

Jamie,
There are no "dummies", just users who are seeking answers.
I'm glad you explained why you wanted a DVD drive, and if I understand correctly, it is so your husband can watch DVD movies on the "Kanga" powerbook. Unfortunately, this is not going to work. A DVD drive can be connected either via the SCSI (square 30-pin port) on the back panel or possibly via a FireWire PC card inserted in the PCMCIA card slot on the left side of the powerbook. However, you would need third-party video player software like VideoLan's VLV Media Player, but there is no version for OS 9.x.
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
In addition, even if there were DVD player software for 9.x, your playback would be very disappointing. Even using VLC on a Powerbook G3 Bronze Keyboard running OSX with a 400MHz CPU, playback is choppy. Your G3 Kanga only has a 250MHz CPU.
When DVDs first became popular, video CDs (VCD) were also released to meet the needs of those without DVD drives, and were widely available in the Far East. However, I have not checked on the availability of these versions locally and I would assume few stores carry a wide selection, if any. This would be the only practical way of playing movies on the Kanga.

My suggestion would be to buy a portable DVD player with prices anywhere from $125 and up.

  • External DvD-rom for Portege 3500

    I recently acquired a Portege 3500 as well as a Toshiba external DVD-ROM (model No. PA3246U-1DVD). As I attempt to find drivers for this I have failed horribly (for the dvd-rom). It is connected via a Card Bus card. Toshiba says the drivers should be part of Windows but my system cannot find them. I was wondering if anyone here had drivers for the Portege 3500 for this. If I'm not mistaken they should be for PCMCIA adapters. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
    *Side note: Retailers say the Toshiba external DVD-ROMs ships with cd contain both manual and drivers. If anyone has a copy or could point me to a site with them it would be greatly appreciated as well.

    mostly the external DVD-drives are made by freecom
    you can find the freecom cardbus driver for your 3500 here :

  • Advice on DVD Writer for PowerBook - Matshita DVD-R UJ-815

    Hi there,
    I have been attempting to burn DVDs on my PowerBook using Toast Titanium Version 6 - TO NO AVAIL. During my first few attempts to burn DVDs, the SuperDrive accepted the disc but was unable to complete the Encoding process. Burning data files on a CD-R has not been a problem - now when a blank DVD-R is inserted, it is kicked out almost immediately.
    When my computer was purchased I was told that DVDs could be written at 1X. This is proving to be ever frustrating and I am beginning to fear the worst.
    Please help.
    Martin
    PowerBook   Mac OS X (10.2.x)

    If in fact you are trying to burn Commercial DVD Movies you will need one more piece of software.
    You can burn just about anything accept Movies that are Commercial, because they need to be Ripped and then they also need to be compressed with either Toast 7 or Popcorn....Cheers...Don

  • Burn DVD ROM for Compatiblity ? ? ?

    I read that a DVD ROM disc is more compatible with settop player.I notice that Encore has a option for DVD ROM burning, somthing I have read about and have not been able to do. I guess I should burn my project to an image file. Then a DVD ROM from the image file ? ? How is it done correctly ? ? ?
    Thanks - Video

    As far as I know, the ROM CONTENT option is so you may add "other content" to a movie DVD, playable only on a computer... such as links to web pages, or a PowerPoint presentation... or any other content that is not a "movie" to play in a set top player
    If you want to make a "movie" DVD to play in a set top player connected to a TV... you just use the usual burn option (or create an .ISO to burn later or make multiple discs)

  • Need help finding a driver for my hp webcam . My computer say I dont have a camera but I do.

    Need help finding my camera[webcam] on my computor.

    Can you provide us with your computer model number?  Take a look in Device Manager to see if there is an Imaging Devices group that includes the webcam.  If not, is there an Unknown Device listed?  This would indicate that your webcam is detected, but there is no driver installed.  We can help you find the correct driver if that is the case.  Let's start with the computer model number.  Thanks.

  • Equivalent PC laptop CD/DVD-ROM for Pismo?

    Some months ago I bought a used G3 Pismo laptop. Instead of the original CD/DVD-ROM (Apple P/N 661-2244) it had just a CD-ROM. I would like to get a DVD capability, however, looking on the internet at web stores the price is over $100-$130. It's not cost effective the spend that much on an older laptop. Also, there don't appear to be many used ones available.
    Is there any equivalent PC laptop CD/DVD-ROM that will work in the Pismo? If there is, it's quite likely that it will be less than $100. Or is there another model used in a G3 or G4 laptop that will work in a Pismo?
    Cheers, Tom

    Tom:
    Here is one less that $110 on eBay.
    Good luck.

  • Need Help, Finding a site for uploading swf files

    [moved from AS3 forum by moderator -  is not an AS3 discussion]
    Alright, so I'm kind of new to these forums. I searched them thoroughly several times, but couldn't a find a section for what I exactly needed. I used an older version of Flash and actionscript to make some interactive games and then exported them.
    I've found plenty of sites that allow uploading of a variety of files, including flash based ones. The problem is that these sites are either for storage, downloading the file onto one's computer, or that they would have to go to a specific link to play the game.
    What I want is to be able to place a file onto an uploading site and be able to embed it (I think that's the word) to my own site/forums. That way the game can be played on a site and or discussion forum, without members having to go to another site or downloading the game.
    What file uploading site would you recommend for this? I've already tried several, but they don't allow embedding files. I would prefer for the site to be free, as I don't have enough files to make it worth paying a monthly fee.
    Thanks in advance for any replies/information!

    Yes, why not upload it to your own website. Most of sites are not support swf file, but support flv file. To upload swf to your website you can use the code like
    <object width="300" height="300">
    <param name="movie" value="flashmovie.swf">
    <embed src="flashmovie.swf" width="300" height="300">
    </embed>
    </object>
    If you really need to upload swf to other websites, I think you need to convert your video but that will not a game.  But maybe you can try to find some flash game websites.

  • Password Protect my DVD-rom on Powerbook

    Is there any way to password protect my dvd burner? I don't want people hopping on my laptop and burning cd's when i'm not around. Any suggestions? Is there anyway to password protect ANY applications???
    SDMac
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

    Hi,
    If you create a new account and go into the parental controls section and select 'Finder' you can configure it to not allow burning CD's etc, and also control access to specific apps.
    The only problem with this is that it restricts access completely and does not allow for the entering of an Admin id and password which, I think, would not do what you are meaning. You could also go down this route by setting up a seperate account with all these restrictions which you log into when you leave your machine alone so allowing people some access to your computer but not to your account.
    Have you thought about just locking the screen by requesting a password when the machine wakes up or for closing the screensaver? (These are set through the Security preferences pane.) If this is what you want to do then remember to disable automatic login if it is enabled.
    If you could give some more details about your specific use that might help with getting an approriate answer.
    Robbie
    ps There may be some apps around that can do this but I am not currently aware of them. Other people may know of some.

  • DVD player for Powerbook G4 Processor 667 MHzPower PC G4

    Can I intsall a DVD player on my Powerbook G4?
    Can you tell me where I could search for this hardware?

    This is the powerbook you have: PowerBook G4 (DVI) Titanium (Ivory)
    This is not a Aluminum !
    There are two options:
    -Replacing the internal drive
    -Connecting a external drive
    This drive will work for example perfect inside the Powerbook
    This is a nice price for a internal DVD writter!
    Here is a really nice guide how to install the drive inside.
    External drive's are much cheaper and can also be used on other computers:
    Philips external USB DVD writter
    There is also no need to take apart the Powerbook!
    So the best and cheapest option is to buy a external DVD writter!
    The Philips burner i mentioned above is cheap and quality!
    Hopefully this is helpfull or solved your problem. Consider rewarding some points!

  • Need help finding proper page for Extending OA Framework

    I am using OAF 11.5.10 CU2. We have a requirement to modify the table that shows on the OTL timecard notification. This is what shows when u go to the "Worklist Timecard Approval" responsibility and select the notification with type of "OTL Workflows for Employees". The table contains project number, we want to change that to project name. We also need to add a custom comments field.
    When I go thru the "Extending OA Framework Applications" documentation it shows me how to find the page to export from the MDS repository. However, when I do that it doesn't contain the Timecard Entries table as expected. The page I exported was /oracle/apps/fnd/wf/worklist/webui/NotifDetailsPG, as the "About this Page" shows.
    Please help me find the proper xml page to extend for this requirement.

    t looks like it does creates the web bean dynamically. This is the controller code that gets fired when the details button is selected, which is the timecard details.
    if(s9.equals("Detail"))
    oapagecontext.removeSessionValue("TimecardBlockCount");
    oapagecontext.removeSessionValue("TimecardAttributeCount");
    flag = false;
    GlobalUtilities.putSessionValue(oapagecontext, "FOOTER", "detail");
    oapagecontext.putSessionValue("TimecardMode", "TIMECARD-REVIEW");
    oawebbean.addIndexedChild(createWebBean(oapagecontext, oawebbean, "Hxctimecard"));
    So How would I know how to find this web bean to make the changes?

  • Need help finding a driver for our NI A/D board

    My A/D board has the following numbers: 70243 and 84-01 and 3199F. Help me find the driver

    All of the NI drivers can be located on the NI Drivers and Updates page. In order to find the required driver, you will need to know what the device is called. You can find this information in several different ways. One way is to visually inspect the device. If it is an NI device then it should list the device name somewhere on the board. Also, you could locate the part number. This number usually ends in -01 or -02 and is printed near a bar code. If you can find this number, then simply type it into the search on ni.com to locate the name of the device.
    When the name of the device is figured out, you should then determine the appropriate driver for the device from the Drivers and Update page linked above.
    If it is not an NI device, then you will want to view the device manufacturer's webpage for available drivers.
    Please do not post back to this message as I do not believe the message pertains to the NI Measure software. The question is more related to a specific piece of hardware. Thus, you should repost this question, if another exists, to the appropriate NI Hardware category.
    Best of luck.

  • DVD-ROM for Lombard

    What the cheapest way to get a dvd onto the desktop a Lombard (OS 10.3):
    A used Apple branded DVD drive from ebay - $50+
    A third party drive that will work in the optical drive slot - What will work?
    A firewire PCMCIA card with an old external DVD drive I own - $20 (will it work).
    Thanks

    HnakGood,
    If you connect a FireWire DVD drive, you will be unable to boot to a CD or DVD. FireWire / USB CardBus PC cards do not support booting, only built-in FireWire and USB do.
    Buying a used Apple DVD drive can be risky...you have no idea how hard it has been used or how long it will last.
    The other option of replacing the optical drive in your current DVD caddy is a nice way to go, but it sounds like your caddy may be damaged since the tray will not stay locked in. If you remove the DVD drive, turn it over, then push an opened paperclip into the manual eject hole, you will see how this mechanism works. Possibly disassembling the drive to get at the locking mechanism may present a solution. Here's a helpful guide:

  • Need Help finding mini bridge for PS CC Program window

    I am still learning PS. I have PS & LR CC. I recently purchased Photobacks backgrounds and Templates, and Mini-Bridge looks extremely helpful in their tutorial video.  What exatly is it and HOW can i get it on my PS Window?  Thanks

    As of CC, it no longer exists. Adobe pulled it. Sorry.
    You can however, keep Bridge running (which it would have been for mini bridge to work) Then Double click on the thumbnail or drag the thumbnail to photoshop. It doesn't really take any longer to do it just does not stay in front any more.
    Idea for Adobe -
    Though In windows, Adobe could force bridge to stay in front if they decide to add that option. Not sure if Mac has a similar feature.
