HELP - Fireworks 8 is flattening PNG created w/ MX to BMP

Help please Fireworks 8 is flattening my PNG created with
Fireworks MX to a bmp that has no layers.
It still SAYS PNG but the layers are gone.
Is there some kind of problem with opening png's created with
older versions of fireworks?
I almost wish I didn't upgrade...
Please help...

  • Saving as flattened PNG -- gradients banding

I'm sure there's something really, really simple I'm overlooking, but this is driving me nuts!   When I save FireWorks files as flattened PNG, gradients get badly banded. I am selecting PNG 24 or PNG 32 in the Options for the 'Save As' dialog, but the results are as if I'd selected .gif or maybe PNG 8 (see attached)
I had this problem in CS4, too, but after trying everythign I could think of to fix it, concluded it must be a bug in CS4, or maybe somethign wrong with my install. But now my crispy-fresh FireWorks CS5 is showing the same problem.
What am I missing? A hidden preference somewhere?

Holy makerel, that's not the answer, but it gave the clue to find it: In order for Save or Export to output the graphic at PNG32, PNG32 needs to be selected in the Optimize palette. If PNG8 is selected in the Optimize palette, exporting or saving is at PNG8, no matter what options are selected in the Export/SaveAs dialogs. If PNG32 is selected in the Optimize palette, the Save As/Export produces PNG32.
That strikes me as a bug in the Save As dialog: if the Save dialog lets me specify what depth I want to output, I expect that to, you know,  be the output, not to have the output dictated by some other palettte in the application.  I find it more forgivable in the Export dialog, in which there is no option to specify the bit depth.

  • Difference Between Fireworks PNG vs Flattened PNG?

    Hello,
I want to save my image as a PNG, however, Fireworks gives me the option to save as a "Fireworks PNG" or as a "Flattened PNG". What is the difference?
    Thanks in advance!

PNG file is basically a raster format but Fireworks png document still holds the vector information about objects. Another basic difference is the presence of information related to Layers, Pages and states present in Fireworks PNG files.

  • How to add a drop shadow on this flattened PNG image?

    First timer here -
When I mask the blue globe wireframe where I want the shadow, the Property Inspector no longer allows me to add the effect.
Is there a workaround or a different way to select the globe, or to make the globe its own layer and apply the effect?
    Many thanks

Hello Ken,  I'm not sure I can help you as I'm not sure what a 'blue globe wireframe' is exactly.  However, you've described it as a flattened .png.
So are you attempting to add a drop shadow to an asset .png file within your Fireworks working file?
Nb.  It is unusual to flatten a .png file, because .png files are used for transparency and flattening should remove that quality.  I use CS4 Fireworks and a PC, and I have attempted both a flattened .png and a normal one.  These image files were imported into the document, onto a particular page and then their own layer.  Additionally, I right clicked the none flattened .png and was still able to add a drop shadow.
Make sure you have done your housekeeping and know that the asset you are attempting to add a Drop Shadow to, is highlighted on the layers panel and that you are on the correct page. Also, ensure that the layout view is in Iconic Mode [top right]:  which means all panels go to icon and the Properties Panel is in full view.
For PC, highlight asset, go to Properties, click the tiny arrow key next to the + sign, find filter.  If this doesn't work for you. Then give more info about how you created the asset, what operating system you use and which version of Firefox.  Hope this helps.  Sometimes all the Adobe programmes can sort of get stuck.  So just close doc and open again, and hopefully, should clear up the bugs.  Best wishes

  • Fireworks is arbitrarily flattening images when round-tripping

Here's the problem using Fireworks CS3 and Dreamweaver CS3. Have multiple people editing the images over a network. Sometimes you open a Fireworks PNG file from Dreamweaver and then click done. It's saves it as an editable image file some times, and as a flattened image file other times, no rhyme or reason to it just does it. (but not always) Any ideas? Anything I have overlooked?
This is slowing down our progress with the project CONSIDERABLY.

If the editable PNG file is being opened via DW and then SAVED AS or EXPORTED as a standard PNG while in Fireworks, you'll flatten the file. Make sure to click DONE within the FW workspace when the editing in complete, rather than saving the file.  I've heard of this happening accidentally when both the flat file and the layered file have the same file names. Sometimes a user will open the flat file, then unintentionally save the flat version to the location where the original, layered file resides.  Does this help?

  • Please help- Fireworks CS3 popup menu displaying wrong positions on live page

    Greetings all,
I am new to Fireworks and my knowledge of html and dreamweaver is pretty basic, So i am learning as I go here. My problem is this: I have created a popup menu for the site http://www.theatricalprojections.com I used Fireworks to edit a .png and position the menus and links that I want. I had everything set up the way I wanted it to look except that when I published the code, the menus are showing up in the wrong postions on the live site, while it works fine when I preview it locally. You'll notice that the menu popping up for the word "consoles" isn't next to the word where it should be.
I exported the png to an htm file. I then copied this code and I had to paste it into a box in the Able Commerce system we have for managing the site. I suspect the fact that I am insterting the code into a box within this software makes things different though I really have no idea.
    Please help me!
Ill be glad to post any other info to make this isse more clear
    Jonny

the design will stay, but thank you. When I left work I uploaded the old version that had menus aligned correctly. right now the new one is up and the some of the menus are way of out place I've been trying to fix this and I have no Idea what to do!

    1) Padding is only placed on the top and/or bottom of the div. The elements within this div have padding on their sides. This saves you from any "box model math". Keep in mind, if you add any side padding or border to the div itself, it will be added to the width you define to create the *total* width. You may also choose to remove the padding on the element in the div and place a second div within it with no width and the padding necessary for your design.

Look at all the apdiv's you have.  Those are absolutely positioned layers.  I'm assuming by your post that you are very new to Dreamweaver and HTML and CSS.  I would highly recommend not using absolutely positioned layers until you have a better grasp on HTML and CSS.
Looking at your code I would suggest that you consider using one of Dreamweaver's built in, or downloadable templates as a starting point and work from there.

  • Flattened png. files only render in black and white

    Hi,
I have been working with fireworks on a daily basis for over
a year now, and I have never come across this problem. I think it's
either a setting, or I have some sort of bug. But here's whats
going on: I design websites and so I use lots of .png files
(flattened of course) Recently all of flattened png files are
rendering only in black and white. By that I mean I save them in
color, and then when I save them they turn black and white, and I
can only tell this once I reopen them. Even if I go into the
options section when you are saving a doc, and I can choose the
format, and then underneath that the palette, the palette itself is
somehow always set to grayscale, and so I will change it to web
adaptive which is my usual setting. Has anyone had this problem
before. The only way around it that I have found is by first saving
my project as a jpg, and then going back into fireworks and then
saving it as a flattened png.

When installing the new cartridges, did you get the message "Original HP cartridges have been installed"?
Can you check the ink levels and actually see the been color displayed?
Although I am an HP employee, I am speaking for myself and not for HP.

  • Contact your help desk with this information: cannot create connection file "CitrixID"

Has anyone overcome an issue with logging in to a Citrix server and getting the following message: Contact your help desk with this information: cannot create connection file “CitrixID”? I can log on, but once logged in, the apps available to me will not launch.  All worked fine before I upgraded to OS X Mavericks. I do a lot of foreign travel and Citrix kept me connected to the office. Unfortunately, our IT team aren't really "Mac Guys" so they are just as perplexed as I am. I have deleted and deleted Citrix Receiver several times as posts on other sites recommended, but to no avail.

There are some discussions on the citrix forum that may help if you haven't already seen them. Here are two and there are likely more:

  • I was looking through itunes help and saw where you could create a new library.  I did so, but cannot find my old one. Where is it? How do I get it back?

I was looking through itunes Help and asw where you could create a new a new library. I did but cannot see or find my old library.
All my music is missing. Where is it? How do I get it back?

Generally your library will be in your music folder in an iTunes folder, more specifically a library.itl file.  If it isn't there then for some reason it has disappeared and can be restored from the backup you make of your computer.

  • How to create a PDF from a DOCX without flattening PNG images?

What I want to do is to create a manual that looks like it has its illustrations roughly painted onto parchment.
I've created a .docx document in Word that looks correct - the images in it are PNG files with transperancy around the edges so if a background is put behind them, it looks like it's painted onto that background.
However, when I use Adobe Acrobat 9 to try and convert this to a PDF, all the images in  the  resulting PDF file are flattened and lose their transparency.  This isn't immediately obvious when the page background is left white, but as soon as the background is set to the 'parchment' image, it's obvious that the transparent parts have been flattened into solid white, which naturally looks hideous.
Is there anything I can to do maintain the transperancy of the images in the DOCX document when converting it into PDF?

While I haven't exactly managed to find the answer to my question, I've found a workaround that gives me the look that I want.
Instead of adding the 'parchment' background in Adobe Acrobat, I already add the background (as a Watermark) in the original Word 2010.  Although I think the images still get flattened, they get flattened into the parchment background so it doesn't actually matter.
    Solved now!

  • Need help with white spaces/halos when creating PNG

I'm using Illustrator CS6 on Windows 7. I'm trying to create some pushpins that will go on an online map. I've created the graphic in Illustrator and everything looks nice and sharp. My problem is when I try to convert this .ai file to png. The ai file is set up on 8.5 x 11 artboard with the graphic taking up the whole artboard; the final size of the png needs to be 20x34 pixels at 72 dpi.
I've tried both Save for Web and Export but no matter what I do, when I open the png in Photoshop, there is a white space between the grey pushpin and the black stroke as well as around the outside of the S. No matter what I've tried, I can't get rid of these unwanted white spaces/halos. Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere? The large image below is how it looks in Illustrator; the small image is the png opened in Photoshop. How can I get the small png to be as crisp as the large ai file? Thanks.

    mc-mark,
Are you sure the artwork is contained within whole pixels on the Artboard?
One way to obtain that is to move the artwork so that the Transform panel tells you that the X and Y values of the lower left corner (or centre or something else) are whole pixels/points; another way is to tick Align to Pixel grid  in the Transform panel, but I am afraid that may distort the artwork when used at this stage.

  • Help in working with this Png file...(Please see attached)

    Hi All,
I am trying to identify the contents of the attached png file so I can edit the mask to make addition icons for the web.  It is barely visible until a layer is placed below it.  I have tried editing the contents and saving it out as another png for use in a CSS background image but it does not appear.  I am not sure how it was created but it seems to have an alpha channel yet one does not appear in the channel listing.  But it does show an opacity of 18% when the Info window is up and you hove over the pixels.  I am very confused and would appreciate help as I have spent an entire day trying to decipher this mystery.
By the way, the image is attached here, right next to the exclamation point below but is coming up as invisible because of the low opacity.  But it is there as you can tell by the gap between this sentence and my closing salutation. Like I said, this is a very confusing issue!!
Thanks and have a Happy New Year!

I downloaded your very small  png image 26px by 98px.  PNG files support transparency and all the pixels in this PNG file are more then 50% transparent. For when I load the layers transparency as a selection there are no visible marching ants and I get a message to that effect.  The pixels are very transparent and not visible in the composite image.  To make them visible I made three copies of the document and added a stroke layer style to each copy.  The stroke are 1 px black ones one outside, one centered and one inside the layer pixel border.  The layers opacity is at 100% however all pixels has transparency less then 50%

  • QUERY HELP!!! trying to create a query

    i'm creating a summary report
i have a table with sale dates
for example i have a table tab_1 and column saleDate as
    saleDat
    1923
    1936
    1945
    2003
    2005
saleDate contains years and there are some missing years where no sale
    was made
My report has to display years starting from earliest year
so i have to create a query that starts with 1923
but the problem is that I have to have years that are not in table.
for example i have to display years 1924 which is not in table
so the part of report has to look like
    1923 blah blah summary.........
    1924 "
    1925
    1926
    2005
    2006
upto current year (2006 may not be in the table, but i have to display)
i just need to know the query that can query all the years starting from
the ealiest saleDate to current year
    thanks in advance

Please write the query in the following form:
SELECT a.year, --- place other columns from your table.
FROM (SELECT (:start_num + rownum) year
    FROM all_tab_columns
    WHERE :start_num + rownum <= :end_num) a,
    tab_1 b
    WHERE a.year = b.saleDat(+);
    Note:
    1) if your start year and end year are 1923 and 2006. Then input as below:
    :start_num = 1922
    :end_num = 2006
    2) Since for some of the years (1924 etc) may not be there in your so you may need to use NVL to print proper indicators.
    3) If you have more than one record in tab_1 for a particular year then group them based year and then use it.
    Hope this helps.
    - Saumen.
