Help! Fonts unreadable the Symbol A in a box!

All of the characters for fonts for icons are now the letter "A" in a box.
All drop down menus as well!
I'm suspecting this has something to do with a software update I was NOT supposed to do... I have a Mac Mini non-Intel.

For help with Fonts:
If fonts are not displayed as expected when you open documents or you cannot open documents, it's possible fonts have been corrupted. You can validate fonts to confirm they are still safe to use, and remove any corrupted fonts you find.
Take care not to remove system fonts, located in /System/Library/Fonts; removing system fonts could cause some applications to quit unexpectedly.
To validate fonts:
Open Font Book and select one or more installed fonts to check.
Choose File > Validate Font.
In the Font Validation window, review the fonts listed for warnings or errors. Use the pop-up menu to display warnings and errors separately, if necessary.
For fonts with warnings or errors, click the disclosure triangle next to the font to see which validation rules show errors.
To remove a corrupted font, click the checkbox next to the font. Make sure fonts you want to keep are not checked. Then click the Remove Checked button.
You can also use the Console utility to troubleshoot problems with installed fonts. In the console.log window, type "font" or a font name (such as "Arial") in the Filter field to find font-related log messages.
You can validate font files before installing the fonts. To do so, in Font Book choose File > Validate Files. Browse to and select a font file to validate and click Open. Font Book displays the Font Validation window and indicates whether it found problems with the font.

Urgent Help reg setting the maxlength of a text box

I want to set the max length or the no of characters to be entered of a textbox in parent page from a child popup window.
Even if i use the opener property the maxlength is not set. Is there any other way to set the property. I'm not refreshing the parent page when coming back from child page. I tried to set the value of the text box from child and it's working fine. But the maxlength is not working.. Is there any way to do this.. Pls help me to solve this problem.

this is really a js question and im not sure that you can access the formElem.maxlen property unless you get into DOM coding

maybe u could use something like this and set it from the parent window to the onkeyup event on the text box in the parent

Help text font in SQL Developer is too small and almost unreadable, specially monotype font used to describe SQL queries.
Help text in JDeveloper is much better.

Although this only partially addresses the problem, you can increase the help text font size by pressing the + (plus) key in your numeric keypad (in both SQL Developer and JDeveloper). The following (or similar wording) will be added to the "Using the Help" topic in the help and the User's Guide in a future release of SQL Developer:
"To increase the size of the font in the help topic viewer, press the + (plus) key in the numeric keypad part of your keyboard when the viewer has focus. To decrease the size of the font, press the - (minus) key in the numeric keypad. This setting is preserved only for the duration of the current help pane or window; therefore, you may want to keep the help pane open after setting the help text font to your preferred size."

This problem started to happen since yesterday when I installed adobe acrobat reader XI pro to try it before I buy it, and before that when I was using the free adobe pdf reader I was totally able to copy any text from any pdf and past it anywhere with nothing wrong.
What can I do?

When a html coded page requires the Windows Symbol font, Firefox does not call it, and the English alphabet characters display instead. How can I get the Symbol font to work when the page is loaded in Firefox??

This site shows Greek letters and Greek words by calling for the Windows Symbol font. The page(s) involved display correctly in Internet Explorer, but not in Firefox 3.6.1 or 8.1. In Firefox, the Greek letter does not appear, it is just replaced with the English letter for the equivalent keystroke. Here is a html line that ought to cause Symbol's Greek letter lowercase alpha to be displayed, but all you get is an "a" :

Reemphasizing, the page code works on Internet Explorer. It does _not_ work with Firefox ver 3.6.1 nor ver 8.0.1 (which I upgraded to, to see if that would solve the problem). The MDC FAQ solution is not a solution, because it forces the html coder to change his language just to accommodate Firefox. Firefox needs to change to conform to standards.

I think Firefox wants you to use _its_ font faces, not the standard Windows fonts. They do not have a Symbol font to replace the Windows TTF, I guess.

How do I tell the installer to put my html help files in the helpdir symbolic location?

I used the File>>Print function to create an HTML help file for my application and specified in the VI Properties for the app to use <helpdir>:\ApplicationHelp.HTML as the Help Path. This should pop up the help file when a user selects "Help for This VI" from my custom menu. It works from my development directory because I installed the help files into the help directory manually, but I can't figure out how the get the installer to put the files in the correct location on the target system. I tried putting them in [LabVIEW 2010 Help] in the Destination View for the Source Files category, but that didn't work. Anyone know the right way to do this?

Thank you for the reply! I had already done the steps you suggested, so let me put up some screen shots that should help you understand my issue better. First, I specified the path to the help information on the Documentation screen of the applications Properties:
Next I had added all the help files (DetectorFT.html and all the .png files) to the source in a virtual folder I named Resources.
Next, for the release build I specified the files to be Always Included on the Source Files header.
Next I created a Resource Directory as a destination for the release build.
Then I specified the Resource directory as the destination for the files for the Release build.
After creating the Release build, I created an Installer build and told it on the SOurce Files screen to put the help files into the [LabVIEW 2010 Help] directory.
I had assumed that putting the files in the [LabVIEW 2010 Help] destination would put them into the correct directory when the installer ran. When I ran the installer on the target system, the ran the application I tried to select the "Help for This VI" tab on the menu, but it was grayed out indicating it could not find the file in the proper location. So the question I have is, what IS the proper location for the files to be installed to so the the application will find the Help files when it is looking for them at the <helpdir> Symbolic Path location? Connect it to a wall charger for at least 30 minutes. After that time, while it is still connected to the charger, Reset it by holding down the sleep and home buttons until you see the Apple logo, then let go of the buttons. Might take a few tries.

Just the name? Don't ever recall that being a feature. However, for Mail and Messages (and a few other apps): Settings app > General > Text Size

Anyone know how to change the default font for the new pages? Apparently it does not even come up when I search the 'Help' section of Pages. The level of incompetence in this new version seems breathtaking

I cannot find how to change the default font in the new Pages. It does not appear in the Help area when I search for it. I am never sing Helvetica for my standard documents and cannot seem to change it. What am I missing? And why does Pages help not have an easy answer?

You open a blank template and change the font to you liking. Remember to also get all the styles changed with new font. Then Save As Template. Now you have a template with the font you like.

font = font.deriveFont(fontAttributes);I use this font in the graphics.drawString() method, but it seems like the text is drawn with PLAIN style, no effect of bold at all.
If i change the WEIGHT_ULTRABOLD to WEIGHT_BOLD, it works, the text is drawn with BOLD style.
I wonder what is wrong ? I really want the BOLD to be 'bolder', thicker ^.^
Or is there any other approaches to this ?

I see the same thing.
The API for TextAttribute describes WEIGHT_ULTRAWEIGHT as
specifying "The heaviest predefined weight", but as you point out
you get plain rather than bold.
This bug (http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=4920831)
describes the problem:
"Fonts can be created using TextAttributes in a Map. Unlike the standard
Font constructor, which just uses a boolean 'bold' bit in the style mask,
the Map can provide a range of values for WEIGHT. In JDK 1.4.2 and 1.5,
only the weight coresponding to WEIGHT_BOLD creates a bold font-- the
rest are plain. At a minimum, all values for TextAttribute.WEIGHT that are
greater than the value for WEIGHT_BOLD should also create a bold font.
"Furthermore, different weights should (to a point) result in fonts that
appear to be of different weights, even if there are no corresponding
underlying fonts. Fonts of increasing weight should display with a
corresponding increase in boldness.
"Changes in weight should not necessarily cause a change in advance.
Synthesized weight changes should impact advance minimally, if at all."
The evaluation claims that "WEIGHT >= WEIGHT_BOLD will cause a
Bold font", but I don't see it (compiled and ran basically your code
with 1.5.0_04).

I can offer suggestions, but I can not fix it.
Press enter three or four times before you start typing and then move the cursor back to the start. What happens is your point of insertion gets outside your predefined font range, it is a know bug and that will help you "stay in the lines" Another option is type Rick, go back to the start and then type your message. Anything which keeps the insertion point from the very end of the email really.

Apple has changed the way Kotoeri keyboard layouts work. You should be able to get normal behavior if you activate the US layout and switch to that just before using Kotoeri. Here is also an Apple note on the topic with another suggestion:
