Help for a former BlackBerry User

I had a BlackBerry until a couple months ago. The button in the upper right hand corner of a BlackBerry is a sleep button but on a call it is a mute button. The button in the upper right hand of a iPhone is the sleep button...except when you're on a call it is the hang up button. When I'm listening to conference calls and I want to go to mute real quick I tend to hit this button...and ta da! I'm out of the call. Even after a couple months I just can't get used to not having this as a mute button. And really I kinda prefer having that button there because I can quickly mute to cough, ****, etc With the iPhone if the phone is up to my face I have to wait for it to sense I'm not by the phone, turn the screen back on and then push mute. This is probably the only thing I miss about my BB is the mute button.
Is there anyway to configure this button to be a mute button and not a hang up button??? Or an app that does it?

In a word, no.
When I'm on a call, selecting the sleep/wake button to turn the iPhone's screen off when not using the earpiece - when using the earbuds or a bluetooth headset does not hang up the call.
The iPhone includes a proximity sensor which turns the iPhone's screen off when it is held up to your ear and face during a call so a button on the screen is not accidentally selected by a part of your face. When removing the iPhone from your ear and face during a call, there should be no wait for the screen to turn back on - this should be instant - at least it is for me.
There is no 3rd party app and there will be no 3rd party app that can change or affect such iPhone functions.

  • Help: Exit the FORM when user makes failed attempt to logon

    Hi,
In this application, I added a on-logon trigger with a line:
    logon(' ','@DB-CONN');
DB-CONN is the default database connection string.
What I really want to add is every failed logon attempt will be given and the 3rd failed attempt will kick the user out.
Right now, I have the problem that even user clicks CANCEL button, the form will be started without DB connection. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • How Install MySQL on Air w/OS 10.6.5 -- For New, Former WinTel User?

This new MacBook Air (and former WinTel) user welcomes (with appreciation) your *detailed suggestions* regarding installing +MySQL Community Edition 5.5.8+ (I have downloaded mysql-5.5.8-osx10.6-x86_64.tar.gz;, it's sitting in my "Downloads" directory)--then configuring MySQL to work with Snow Leopard's pre-installed Apache Server (pre-installed...and how cool is that?!).
E.g., I assume that I should not un-tar the download in the Downloads folder...yet I don't know enough about Mac OS to understand where to move the .tar file to. Once the .tar file has been moved to ( where? ), and un-tarred...then what? Is there an installer? How does the installer work? The MySQL instructions refer to a file structure which is quite different from what's on my MacBook Air. Are there a lot of Symbolic Links in Snow Leopard? If so, how & where are Symbolic Links managed? Do I need to provision any SymLinks to get MySQL to work?
    Many, many thanks!

Do not install the entropy MySQL. It is years old. To quote Marc Liyange himself on that page:
Since version 4.0.11, I am no longer building (from source code) and hosting the MySQL binary packages because the people at MySQL started to provide very nice official binary packages

Go ahead and unarchive that file right in Downloads. It should be a binary installer that you can double-click to install.

    Really? How so?

Yes. Symbolic links are managed by the OS. You shouldn't mess with them.
While MySQL does not provide a binary installer, the actual software they install does not use modern MacOS X architecture. I haven't tried version 5.5. Hopefully they have improved it, but probably not. You will need to create a launchd script to run MySQL at startup.

  • Help for a new MAC user

I just made the move from PC to MAC. I have and need to use my Office 2003. Can someone help a newbie to install it on my new Imac?

If that Office 2003 is for Windows, it will not install on OS X. The only way to get a Windows application on a Mac is using something like Boot Camp (Parallels, VMWare Fusion) and then a Windows system as well.

  • Help for a novice mac user

O.K. I've been a very satisfied Mac user since I switched from a PC last February, so much in fact, that even though my iMac 24" 3.06 is only 9 months old, I'll be getting a new i7 quad. My question is this: I now have an iTunes account on my mac and my wife has her account on her PC. I'll be giving her my old (if 9 months is old....) mac and was wondering how the itunes accounts will be transferred? When I open iTunes on my new mac will it recognize my old account and how will my wife go about getting her account from her PC to a mac that previously had my account on it.
Sorry to appear so stupid, but hey..I'm new....lol

The account is just a sign on. She would simply sign on to her account.
The music is a different thing. The itunes store does not keep a copy of your music for you online.
You buy ONE download, then it is your responsibility to backup your music. You should both have your music backed up. You can use this backup to move the music to the new machine.
Migration assistant (comes with every Mac) on your new mac will do this for you -from the old mac to the new one.
Your wife will have to copy her music from the pc and then move it to her new Mac.

  • Need help for Oracle forms 10.1.2

Hi , I have installed oracle form 10g application in one of my linux box ( 64 bit) , After bringing up the servers , the system-linux box is getting rebooted automatically . Please help as the Everytime the servers are going down along with the machine.

My shop uses that version of Forms. 64 bit Linux gave us so much trouble we installed 32 bit Linux on the 64 bit hardware.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think there's a 32 bit version of the oracle software so 64 bit Linux does not give you anything.

  • HELP for a clueless Imovie user

I am a beginner.. have created a few projects.. and have uploaded them successfully to mobile me. BUT.. I want to be able to upload the movies to MediaFire, which is a file hosting site. HOW do I do this? Do I have to export as a quick time move onto my desktop, which takes 6 HOURS! and then upload that to Media Fire which takes MORE time.. I don't even know how long yet..??
I don't understand why it takes SO LONG to upload my 45 minute movie to mobile me which is apple to apple.. 6 hours! But that's another question.. I just need to know how to upload or export, whatever the word is, my Imovie to Media file directly.
    thanks!
    hugs,
    amy

    Thanks AppleMan1958!
But.... I'm sorry I wasn't clear with my question
    Let me ask it again:
I have just finished uploading a movie from my canon video camera to Imovie. I have completed my project and am ready to upload it. HOW do I upload this completed movie to something other than what is in my "share" options? Is there a way to upload the movie directly to other sites? Or, do I have to save it as a quick time move, which still takes about 6 hours and will end up on my desktop and THEN I can upload it to these free file sites..?
    thanks!

  • Droid X...A Blackberry User's First Impressions

    Hi, all,
Some of you may know me as being an avid Blackberry user from these forums.  I recently was able to get my hands on a Motorola Droid X and wanted to give my impressions.  My sister, who was a former Blackberry user, purchased one of the Droid Xs last week and allowed me to put it through the paces.  First, the size.  I was really impressed.  I own an iPad Touch, which pretty much is just like a iPhone.  The Droid X stood out to me because of its screen size.  It is much larger than I expected.  The Droid X has a very bright and colorful screen.  It is not very heavy or bulky to me.  I was thinking the touch screen would be like touching the Blackberry Storm, but it is not.  It is just like using the iPhone or iPad Touch.  Setting up email accounts was not too much of a hassel.  The 3G connection was a good, fast connection for browsing the internet.  The native browser is nice, although I would have liked to seen how Opera Mini 5.0 would have done on the device.  WiFi worked really well. No problems connecting to a hotspot.  Another big plus for the Droid X is the ability to add a SD card for storage.  This is nice especially since the iPhone does not allow the user to add an SD card.
I did not get but a few minutes to play with the Droid X, but it was time well spent.  I really like the touch screen on the Droid X.  If you are a user wanting a good device with an "iPhone-like" screen, the Droid X is for you.  I am curious, as a Blackberry user, what devices RIM will come out with in the near future to compete with the ever-growing Droid line of devices.  Anyways, I just wanted to pass along a few of my impressions of the Motorola Droid X.
    Doc

Thanks for the post, Doc....and welcome to the world of touchscreen interfaces !
I, myself, own an iPhone.  I bought it from someone on Craig's List and I was going to jailbreak it and use a different carrier, but changed my mind.  I'm a Verizon customer, so my iPhone is just a fancier iPod Touch that can't make calls.  That's fine with me  because I really can't stand AT&T.   From other posts in these forums, some individuals are boasting that AT&T has superior customer service over Verizon.   Too bad the same thing can't be said about their coverage.  Everyone is going to experience bad customer service with just about every company out there.  If it hasn't happened to you yet....it WILL.     I ordered my Droid X on 8/12, and I expect to receive it at any time between now and the end of the month.   Why am I not stomping my feet and throwing a tantrum ?  Because I understand business......I understand supply and demand....and I have patience.   Yes....Verizon charged me for the phone already.   No, they haven't shipped it.....but they will.   Whether they get my money now...or when the phone is shipped...makes no difference.   Its BACKORDERED people.   Give them time.   I'm still using my LG enV Touch currently, and I can wait a little longer for my X.
The Droid X is extremely popular right now, and Verizon can't keep it in stock.  People don't get their phones when they thought they would, and begin to blame Verizon for it.  How can Verizon ship something they don't have ?  Jump on Motorola and plead with them to ship more to Verizon.   And don't get me started on these Customer Service complaints.   So far, every customer service representative I've spoken to was honest and upfront with me.  When you know that the phone is back-ordered and may not ship until 8/30....and then you believe a store employee that tells you  "you'll have it in two or three days".......that's you indulging in an unrealistic expectation...and then blaming the company for it when it doesn't happen.
Now...someone on these forums may argue that the employee represents Verizon, and whatever comes out of the employee's mouth must be honored by Verizon.  That's true up to a point.  I signed up with Verizon and was told at the store that there would be no activation fee.  When I got my bill, it had been charged an activation fee.  I called Verizon and explained what happened.  The customer service rep honored what the store employee told me, and removed the activation fee from my bill.     HOWEVER,  when it comes to a brand new product that has clearly sold out across the country....and Verizon is jumping up and down waiting for Motorola to send more........Verizon cannot pull a "Harry Potter" by waving a magic wand and produce a Droid X just for you.....simply because a retail store employee told you that.   Do you honestly believe you'll get the phone in a matter of days when the rest of the world is waiting for mid to late August ?    Don't blame Verizon in this case.   Blame the human being that misinformed you.     Someone at Customer Service lied to you ?   Don't blame Verizon.  Blame the individual sitting in the call center that will tell you what you want to hear, while the supervisor is out of earshot.....just to avoid being yelled at by you.    I work in a call center.   I hear things coming out of employees' mouths that I KNOW my company does not endorse.   That's not my company's fault.   That's the fault of the genius on the headset who's gonna get FIRED when Quality Assurance monitors one of those calls.
If you're reading this, Doc.....my apologies.  What was meant to be a post, welcoming you with open arms into the world of Droid, has turned into a huge rant against those with the patience span of about a nanosecond.   I've read countless posts where Customer Service is being bashed left and right.  I just couldn't stand it any longer.   No.....Verizon doesn't have me in their back pocket.  I've only had my account with them for a couple of months, and my impression of their company is still forming.   So far so good.  Enough of the Verizon-flaming already.   You don't like Verizon ?   Go buy an iPhone.   I'll see you back on the Verizon network in about a year or two.

  • Is there a way for a form user to load graphics and text in same field?

I am aware that you can load text into a text field and graphics into an image field.  However, I would like to load a document containing text and graphics (e.g., MS Word or RTF) into a single field on a PDF form.  Is there any way to do this?

    Paul,
I believe that the example of attaching a file that you have provided will solve the problem.  I am using LiveCycle Designer, so using the code that is in your example should be no problem.  The end-user will use Adobe Reader, so as you mentioned, I will use Acrobat to extend the features so that the form can be used by Reader.
Thanks so much for your help,
    Daniel

It is part of the PDF AcroForm side of things .....Are you using Reader or Acrobat to fill the form. If Reader then you will have to Reader Extend to make this work ....if Acrobat then you simply need to add some code. I have attached a sample that shows you how to do it if you want it.

Do a simple reboot on the BlackBerry in this manner: With the BlackBerry device POWERED ON, remove the battery for a minute, and then reinsert the battery to reboot. A reboot in this manner is prescribed for most glitches and operating system errors, and you will lose no data on the device doing this.
You might also try connecting to a WiFi network and completing the BBM setup.
