Help for a new mac-garage band user-m audio pro setting imput

garage band help says click on preferences, but the preferences menu only will come up at start of project--then can only set audio output to m audio pro-audio imput is blank--so internal mike is usued not imput from m audio.
Somehow I managed to get it to work for one song--headphones from m audio montored tracks-guitar recorded using amp sims--been trying for hours to repeat that but only internal mike now will work.

You should be able to open garageband preferences
anytime. Are you sure your looking under Garageband >
Preferences.
And what interface are you using, is it the Fast
Tracks Pro?
Yes fast tracks pro--I finnaly was able to go to preferences when I exited garage band and openend it up again, but when I was working on the song and clicked on preferences it would not come up

  • How to license LR3 (Win) and Photoshop CS6 (Win) on a Mac? [was: Help activation on new MAC (pre pc user) - NO CUSTOMER SUPPORT???]

I have been trying to get on chat with adobe, since it seems that is the only option? and have not had any success for days, any ideas how to get support????
    Thanks!
    Amy

Doesn't like CS6 number at all, it was a windows download, but since I am on a new MAC it isn't liking it.
For Creative Suite products, including Photoshop, the serial numbers are platform specific: Mac only or Windows only.
As you have discovered, you cannot use a Windows serial number to license the software on a Mac.
Since the version is CS6, you are eligible for a platform swap in order to obtain a Mac serial number.

  • New to Garage Band and my MacBook Pro

I was wondering if I can use Garage Band to edit preexisting tracks. I am a choreographer and I would like to edit the songs I use for my dances. Can I do that with Garage Band? Can I drop a sound track into Garage Band and edit it to my liking? How would I do that?

Of course garageband can do this but it is really meant more for music creation. But you can just drop the 45 minute track into garageband and use the cycle region function to mark a track and export to itunes. If you plan on doing this often check out http://rogueamoeba.com/fission/. If you have Toast from roxio it also comes with software just for this.

  • Help for a new MAC user

I just made the move from PC to MAC. I have and need to use my Office 2003. Can someone help a newbie to install it on my new Imac?

If that Office 2003 is for Windows, it will not install on OS X. The only way to get a Windows application on a Mac is using something like Boot Camp (Parallels, VMWare Fusion) and then a Windows system as well.

The App Store says I have updates for I-Photo and Garage Band.  When I try to update I get the following message: You have updates available for other accounts  To update this application, sign in to the account you used to purchase it."  Both apps came with my computer and as far as I know I only have one Apple account.  Any thoughts?  Thanks.

Thanks for you reply.  I'm 99% positive that I'm using the user id and password that I used to set up my computer.  That's why I'm stumped.  I read the solution someone else suggested (type your user name without @gmail and create a new password.  When I tried it, I was asked for my birthday.  It didn't recognize it.  I know I got my birthday correct. Oh well...

  • I cannot install Lion to a backup drive for my new Mac Mini

I just bought the new Mac Mini with an i7 processor last week. I wanted to format a backup drive for it. When I tried to use the Lion Recovery partition on the new Mac Mini, I keep getting an error message that says it's incompatoble with the current model.
I also tried to use the Lion thumbdrive I purchased from Apple to see if that can be used, but it also give me the incompatible message.
Is there a special version of Lion that's only for the new Mac Mini's?
    Any help is appreciated!

Read this, it will explain it: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4905
Mac mini (Mid 2011), MacBook Air (Mid 2011): Use Lion Recovery instead of OS X Lion USB Thumb Drive
    Last Modified: September 01, 2011
    Article: HT4905
    Summary
Learn about using Lion Recovery or the built-in OS X Lion recovery partition rather than OS X Lion USB Thumb Drive with computers released after OS X Lion.
    Products Affected
MacBook Air (13-inch, Mid 2011), MacBook Air (11-inch, Mid 2011), MacBook Air (Mid 2011), Mac mini (Mid 2011)
Use Lion Recovery to restore Mac computers released after OS X Lion. If you attempt to use the OS X Lion USB Thumb Drive, a message will appear stating that you cannot install this version of OS X on your computer. This is correct behavior to make sure you install only the correct and most up-to-date version of Mac OS X on your computer.
Note: You can also use the Lion Recovery Disk Assistant on your Mac to create a bootable image to make sure you recover the correct version of OS X Lion. To use the Lion Recovery Disk Assistant, you need to have your own USB drive.
    Additional Information
If you have a network connection, you should receive the appropriate version of Mac OS X when using the built-in Recovery HD partition on Macs running Lion.

  • I'm in the market for the new Mac Pro.

I'm in the market for the new Mac Pro. I've been waiting for it to be released and have some cash set aside for this. I am a video editor and use Premiere Pro CC, and After Effects. My primary content is simple documentary films - so nothing too intense, but always HD (1080) video. I don't see 4k in my future but it's always a possibility so I want to future-proof my purchase for the next 3 years or so. With respect to storage space and RAM, I can make that decision myself based mostly on cashflow (since they are likely both user-expandable). However, with the basic configuration of the number of cores and video graphics card, I could use some advice. I think they are both set for the life of the computer, so important to get it right.
My current thinking is to start with the 6 core model (I guess I have no real reason for this decision, except that I feel like the 4-core base model is put there to make the price feel lower, while the real advantages in performance start at the 6 core - am I way off on this one?). But, I wonder if I should spring for the 8 core or even the 12 core? Probably overkill for me - out of my budget anyway.
The other decision is the graphics card - is the D500 enough? Will it be limiting factor in the future? Or should I move to D700?
    Here are the cost differences:
from 6 core to 8 core is $1500
    from D500 to D700 is $600
Which is worth it? (neither, both?)
    Thanks.

Whether it's worth it depends more on you and what your current and future needs are.
The good news is that Adobe's CC apps can already take advantage of the AMD FirePro GPU's in the Mac Pro, and offer hardware acceleration of the Mercury Playback Engine, which you'll see in Premiere, After Effects, and Media Encoder.  According to the Adobe staffers I've talked to, even the FirePro D300's will see a big benefit, in fact they say you won't see a big bump by upgrading the GPU.  As far as Adobe's apps are concerned, their OpenCL use is all single precision, and the D500/D700 upgrades put a lot of weight in double precision performance (which is unused in their apps).  Their recommendation - put the bulk of your budget on cores and RAM.
How many depends on how elaborate and complex your work is.  Simple documentary films with the odd effects, transitions, titles, and grading.. you'd be fine with a 6-core IMO.  If you're leaning towards getting into really layered comps and effects, you'd shorten those long render times down a lot with the 8-core.  As for memory, I'd recommend at least 4GB per physical core.
    Good luck!

Audio cable help for the new AppleTV.
Currently I have an original AppleTV with audio RCA plugs to mini plug into my BOSE speakers.
The 2nd Gen AppleTv has a Toslink input. I've looked at cables of Toslink to optical mini. Will this cable work? The optical mini part I'm not sure of what it is.
Thanks so much. The monitor I use doesn't have speakers.

If I understand your question correctly, you want to connect your Apple TV2 to your Bose system using a mini plug.
You will need an optical to digital coax RCA converter (find it on Ebay about $15), then you can connect your mini cable. Here is a link to one I recently bought on Ebay: http://fwd4.me/nrQ

No. Target Display mode is only supported when connected to a Mac running 10.6 or later.
It cannot be used with a PC, bootcamp, gamaing console, cable box, DVR or PowerPC Mac.
