Help for an idiot - ipod syncing in internet cafes

I recently had to upgrade my old ipod to an ipod touch after a few technical issues and was able to sync my music from my library on my laptop at home.
Unfortunately since then I have went travelling and am currently in New Zealand. Well, I was in an internet cafe and had just bought a few apps for the first time and on the itunes apps page under my ipod touch I pressed the sync button to sync all the apps - this had the great effect of adding in all the apps but deleting my music. Now this probably my fault somehow although I've used itunes for years and never had problems.
On the plus side I have my old ipod with me, but not my laptop so don't have my music library. Is there an easy way to transfer the files between the two ipods as I can't use my old one - it has a battery life of about 5 minutes.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Well, I can tell you the issue that happened.
What you did is you synced to a different computer, and a public one at that. As a word of caution, never make purchases or sync with a public computer. If you accidentally save your account login information, anyone who uses the computer may be able to make purchases with your account. What happened to you is your iPod content now mirrors the cafe computer, which had just those apps. This is what it does for any auto-sync, match the computer you are syncing with.
A better option for downloading content on your touch, is to simply find a wi-fi hot spot, and either access the iTunes Store or App Store from your device directly and download it directly.
As for transferring the music, there is no way to sync content between the two devices. You COULD hypothetically put your music from your iPod onto a computer, and then sync your touch back up with that, but getting your music from iPod to computer requires additional software and possibly a lot of trouble. The easiest way would be to wait until you can access your laptop and sync your touch back up with that, restoring all of your content.
To learn more about transferring content from your iPod back to computer, try a google search regarding that. I don't know much about it, maybe someone else here can help more.

  • Help for a dead iPod

Yesterday I attempted to listen to some music with my iPod, which is one of the older models (third generation, I believe) called "iPod with Clickwheel" in iTunes. My entire library showed in the music menu, but upon attempting to play any song whatsoever I was met with dead air, and the iPod would freeze for a few seconds. This applied to both mp3s and apple music store items.
Anyway, at my father's suggestion I restarted my iPod using the option where you plug it into your computer, turn hold off and on, and hold down the menu and center buttons until the apple logo appears. This successfully restarted the machine, but iTunes was not recognizing it and windows refused to disconnect it. So, I shut off my computer and disconnected the iPod once it had successfully shut down. Problem is, I no longer had a music library. The restart, which was (as far as I know) supposed to be just like powering down and re-booting a PC only for your iPod, had somehow caused it to stop recognizing that there was any music on the machine at all.
So I booted my computer back up and plugged the iPod in, and since iTunes did not come up automatically when I inserted the iPod even though I have it set to I manually opened iTunes. After waiting a while, it finally recognized the iPod, but said that it was corrupted and that it needed to restore factory settings before I could use the beast at all (unfortunately I did not think to save the exact contents of the error message.) I allowed it to attempt to do so, but after it had tried to restore the iPod for about 10 minutes it gave me another error message, and this one read as follows:
The iPod "iPod" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred. (1418)
so, as you can see I have at this point tried pretty much everything that apple suggests for restoring an iPod which is having trouble on their generic help page, but I still cannot get it to function again. Therefore, I have come to you, the users of the Apple forum, to see if anyone has any ideas of what I may be able to do which I have not done already.
    iPod details:
20 gig iPod with clickwheel, was using most up to date firmware available from apple before the problems started.
Dell Inspiron 2200 series laptop Windows XP Pro 1.6 gHz Pentium M Processor, 759 mb RAM, 60 Gig HD

Once you have a proven, working Charger... Charge the Device for a couple of hours. Then try to turn it on.
    If no joy...
Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time...
Wait for the Apple logo to Appear...
Usually takes about 15 - 20 Seconds... ( But can take Longer...)
    Release the Buttons...
    If the issue persists...
Then a Visit to an Apple Store or AASP (Authorized Apple Service Provider) is the Next Step...
Be sure to make an appointment first...

  • New computer help for a idiot

Hi I have looked on the forums for an answer but I cant seem to follow them. I get really confussed by all this stuff. Could anyone help me with this question. I have just got a new computer after the last one died and I want to get the tunes off my ipod into the new itunes. I saw that lots of you recomend a third party sysytem but what do I do first? I havent downloaded itunes yet. Do I do that then plug in the ipod or download the thrid party thing first? Could some kind and patient soul help.
    Thankyou

I would first read the directions carefully for whatever third party program you choose.
It may depend on the one you plan on using, so if you told us that, then i might be able to be more specific. But i would download itunes first, and then follow the instructions. If you plug your ipod in with itunes it will ask you to sync with the library, DO NOT do that, it will erase your ipod. but like i said you need to tell what your going to use first before i can be specific

  • Help for an idiot please .....

    Hi
I think I've done something really stupid - any suggestions of how to fix would be greatly appreciated.
I recently had my Ipod replaced by Apple and I think it was a refurbished model (it works fine, no problem there). I got it all working, transfered a few songs and a couple of films (i manage syncing manually usually)
Tonight when I connected it it flashed me a message (which I obviously didnt read carefully enough) that said "this Ipod is synced with another library do you want to replace? (or somehing to that effect) Without thinking I clicked yes and wandered off to do somethin else while it charged. When I came back it had deleted my entire Itunes library (about 3 years worth of stuff, I had to buy more memory to store it all) and replaced it with the few bits that were on the Ipod.
Help - can I get all my stuff back?
(if this has been posted before I did search but couldn't find it)

    Quit iTunes.
    Hold Shift and launch iTunes.
Select *Choose library* and select the /Music/iTunes/ folder.

  • Help for getting an Ipod mini to repair

Hello, I feel kind of silly asking for this but... the battery of my Ipod miny seems to be dead and I want to check/repair it. I still have like a month of guaranty but I don't think I can make it valid because my ipod fell some times and the marks can be seen. But still I want to check if can be repaired or if I need to replace the battery of the ipod.
I navigated all the site but I couldn't find where to take it or send it, at least not for Mexico. Does anybody knows where I could take it?
    Thank you very much =)

Found the disk. Last night I used it to Repair the backup drives, as the boot drive was still unfixable. I have a couple of options - there's a Firewire disk with some year-old Time Machine backups, and a newer USB drive which has current TM backups on one of its partitions, plus an image backup from last year.
I might as well format and reinstall on the internal drive, as that preserves all the backups, and see if the hard drive is truly failing. That laptop has just been a stellar piece of hardware - it's been my daily workhorse since January 2005! I've never had any other computer give me eight years of reliable service.
I confess I'm puzzled about Time Machine. It has a restore button, and when I selected a date from a month ago (thinking that recent backups might hold a corrupted file due to the hard drive problem) it prompted me to select a destination. I didn't see any option for a full restore. Is that because TM is smart enough to know that only one file had changed?
It might be better to not put all the junk back on - to do the fresh install, then just reinstall the programs I use regularly. I'd like to get all my mail back. Can I use Time Machine to selectively restore specific programs, or say, just the user data files? Isn't there a decent online reference for Time Machine where I can read up instead of asking for help?
It seems like Apples's got to be refreshing or coming out with new versions of the Mini, which is the replacement machine I want, so I hate to spend a lot on the old machine.
Thanks for all your advice - I appreciate the help.

  • Sliding Panels Help for Javascript Idiot

I have a simple thumbnail gallery to which I am attempting to
apply the Spry Sliding Panels widget. I am creating the gallery

I looked at the code of the Sliding Panels examples, but

incorporate the Sliding Panels successfully. Would someone mind
taking a look at my code and perhaps commenting about how I would
go about adding the sliding panel? I would appreciate it.
P.s., I currently have 5 thumbnails visible. I would like to

  • Restore help for an idiot

    Hi all,
Its probably an easy one for you guys but I am fed up and bewildered by how complicated Apple make things!
I got an iPhone 5 from my other half as she upgraded to the 6. I was using the 4s prior to it. I backed up my data to iCloud from the 4s. Erased her data from the 5 and then restored my data to the 5 via iCloud.
Most of my data transferred over to the 5 with the exception of 80% of my music which was purchased through iTunes directly from the 4s. i connected it up to iTunes on the laptop and could see all the music there but 80% was greyed out and inaccessible. No matter what I tried, I could not transfer my music on to the iPhone 5.
Unfortunately, a lot of her songs (which were on her laptop) are now on my iPhone. I did another back up and restore but its still the same.
Im freaking out. All the songs I bought through iTunes are on the iPhone 4 and not on my iTunes library on the laptop or iPhone 5.
Any help would be appreciated. Iv no idea where I went wrong!

  • Some help for an idiot please

    Hello,
I have made some changes to the SystemInfo Application (<drive>:\usr\sap\<SID>\JC00\j2ee\cluster\server0\apps\sap.com\tcmonitoringsysteminfo) that I am happy with.
How do I take the whole application now and stick it into a war file so that I can deploy it properly?
The SAP original file is called SystemInfo.war. I can open that with winzip - can I just put my changes into it and zip it again with winzip and rename it to .war?
Or can I import a war into the Developer Studio, do the changes there and then build a new war file (please explain in plain english how that works if it works).
Please do excuse my ignorance in this field, as you can guess I havent done much Java Programming .
    Thanks for out thoughts!

  • Hard Drive Failed - iPod synced with previous iTunes Library - HELP!

The hard drive on our Dell laptop recently failed. We had to replace it and completely reinstall the operating system, which wiped out everything, including iTunes. All of our music currently resides on our iPod (thousands of songs!). After reinstalling iTunes on the new hard drive, iTunes will not sync up because it says the iPod is already synced to another iTunes library.
That library was deleted when we wiped out our hard drive.
HOW can we rescue the songs on our iPod and download them to our new iTunes? It's telling us that if we sync, all music on the iPod will be erased!
    Help!

Connect your iPod to your computer. When you get the message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. The transfer of content sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

    Floola Mac & Windows
iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • Help: Capturing photos from camera while iPod sync

    Big problem...
I started my canon sd600 camera to start capturing 90 pictures from my wife's birthay, but I was also sincronizing my ipod and both libraries are in an external LaCie drive.
Immediately after I turned on camera, the iPod Sync failed and also all pictures within iPhoto dissapeared... they were showing an admiration mark... I could only see the pictures just imported from the camera...
The only way I was able to see all pictures was to quit iPhoto and choose again the library. However, when I did this... there were NO pictures just captured!!!!!
Sadly I selected to delete the pictures in my camera after downloading them... Now I lost 90 pictures...
I believe they have to be somewhere since they were effectively captured... just need help to find them!
Can anyone of you friends help me?

Do a search on Macupdate using 'recover photos' and you'll get a lot of suggestions for Software that will recover the photos from your card.

In other words, no. You don't need another iTunes Library for your new iPod
Another iTunes Library, that's only if someone elses music is mixed in with yours and you want to create another Windows user account with their music in it.
The iTunes Library is the master vault containing all your content, from there you create playlists or smart playlists specially tailored for the smaller iPod's storage requirements.
For instance if the iPod can hold only 2,000 songs, then you create a smart playlist based upon those rules/limitation. Plus what type of music you like.
You have a incredible degree of control with smart playlists, they update automatically so you only set the conditions for what goes into them. Including content from other created playlists and smart playlists.
Then, when you hook up the smaller iPod, it has it's own sync options, "all of your music and playlists" or "only select playlists"  So you use the second option to select just the smart playlist you tailored for the new iPod.
When you hook up the iPod Classic, only it's sync options are used, not the new iPod ones.
I hope I explained it better this time.
