Help for Dad - No Video Input

My dad has a G4 tower. He uses it minimally for email and surfing the web.
When he boots up the display shows:
"No video input"
With a camera icon and 2 faces and a blinking question mark.
Any reason for this to pop up out of no where?

The only thing I can think of is that he's added an application to his startup / login items (or it added itself on installation) that requires a video capture device. Under OS X 10.4 the login items can be maintained via the Accounts system preference. Failing that, could it be an iChat preference (Auto Start?) he's tinkered with?

I do not understand what "id_of_publishing client" is supposed to be?
Where do I get it from or how do I produce it? Can this be string that user can enter in a text field on the flash object and when two strings match it produces a connection between the two?
Is there a hash system I have to pass the string through to generate a 256bit peer id from a string thats input or do i use the one given to me through adobe labs?
Is there any relation to creating a Netgroup?
I have the dev_key and cirrus address to access the cirrus service provided by adobe, Im just stuck on the ID part that I cant fully understand from the article, do require a database to store and manage the IDs in a simple app?
Im trying to develop a very basic program that uses the rtmfp examples provided in the article but Im stuck here, I would appreciate anyones help in the matter. Additionally I have looked at the cirrus phone example that uses the cgi file to manage IDs but I find it to be even more troublesome to work with therefore I have resorted to making a extremely basic example that avoid creating an ID database or use my own FMS.

the "id_of_publishing_client" is the peer ID of the publisher. a peer ID is a unique cryptographic identifier that every RTMFP instance has. it's the NetConnection.nearID of an RTMFP NetConnection object. the idea is you use some method (such as a web service database or copy-and-paste between two windows on your development computer) to transfer the peer ID of a publisher (a peer with a NetStream in DIRECT_CONNECTIONS mode) to a subscriber for use in its NetStream constructor.
a Flash Player's NetConnection peer ID is the SHA256 hash of the RTMFP certificate, which contains (among other things) a Diffie-Hellman public key. the Diffie-Hellman public/private key pair is made fresh each time you make a new RTMFP NetConnection from your computer's cryptographic pseudorandom number source (example: /dev/urandom on Mac/Unix/Linux computers), and those keys are used (with other data) to establish the symmetric encryption & decryption keys for AES, which is used to encrypt all communication between RTMFP peers. a client's peer ID is unforgeable* because you must have the private key that goes with the public key in order to generate the same AES keys that your peer is using. without the private key, the communication just won't work. *performing the discrete logarithm of a 1024-bit DH public key to get the private key or finding a collision in SHA256 are both "hard enough" to claim that peer IDs are unforgeable.

Best device for VHS/8mm video input/record to disk?

Looking to transfer old tapes to .avi files or Xvid, or .mpg from VHS and 8mm tapes.
Not professional grade, just some old stuff for fun and to dump the tapes in the trash!
Anybody with experience that can offer suggestions would be appreciated.

I ended up buying a 'Set Top' DVD recorder to replace both VHS and 8mm decks. I can use it copy old tapes to DVD and record new shows off the cable just as though it was a VHS recorder.
If I need to view the videos on my Mac, they play just fine. The only issue would be if I wanted to do some editing, but I think I can even overcome that issue by converting the DVD video to DV format and then work with that on my Mac.
If I were to have bought a card, I would have gone with the Canopus as well.

Mini camera help for dad

Hello to the mac family,
Once again I turn to the pros for help. I bought my son a Philips mini camera. It says PC and i was hoping it woul show up as an external device on the mac. It didn't....Now i would like to buy him an cheap (under$30.00U.S. mini camera. These are jut little keychain items. I just wanted to give him something that he could carry around with his keys. I know these are not spectacular devices but I wanted to give him a little gift that could be fun.
I have searched like crazy for a small camea that will ork on mac...Anyone have any suggestions? I have really searched on the net and so far can't find one.

I have never used one but have you looked at the iKey....supposedly works with Mac and is USB.
Found a link for it on eBay @ iKey....but you'll have to be the judge at $11.99 + shipping if it is anything good enough to use.
It also has a link to the driver needed for Mac and appears to be supported through 10.2 which it appears that you are using.
perhaps someone will pop in that has used it and can recommend or not,

Need help for integrating a Video in Acrobat -

Hello,
ich wand to integrate a mp4-Video (via URL) in my PDF-Document. I did this twice:
A) Directy by using the interactive option in InDesign
B) Using the Video embeding-option in Acrobat Pro
My client, for whom I make the PDF, cannot see the Video in his Acrobat Pro ver. 9.5.
Does anyone know, which Acrobat (Reader) version is needed to see embedded videos?

Rich media annotations (as created by InDesign or Acrobat when you choose an H.264 media file) are compatible with the desktop versions of Acrobat and Adobe Reader 9 and later. They don't work on mobile devices, or inside third-party rendering plugins (e.g. Safari/Firefox or OS X Preview). The viewer also must have the Acrobat Flash Player plugin installed, and of course if the media is being downloaded from a remote URL they must be able to connect to it.

IP/TV3425 Compsite input and S-Video input issue???!!!

When using composite video input,the client of IP/TV Viewer can only get the black and white video.
My configuration is the same to the old IPTV/3425,which is the right for video broadcast(colour video).
But,if using s-video interface for video input,ip/tv client viewer get colour video broadcast

Only one video input can be active at a time. You cannot use a composite video source and an S-video source simultaneously.
Try changing the video cable used for composite video.

I am using JMF2.1.1e(Linux performance pack) for video capturing on Linux OS. I want to set video input port(S-Video or composite) through my application. I am using the following code:

To go a stage further.
Google run a Jabber server for their service.
Jabber apps (those that can) use a Protocol called Jingle to make the A/V connections.
Google's version is not even that compatible with other Jabber apps. (See Here)
The Plug-in in the Google Install (Or the Standalone Web Browser Plug-in allow Browsers to access the GoogleTalk A/V side as does the Standalone PC app called GoogleTalk as well.
iChat uses a process called SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) to connect to other iChat Users or to the AIM for PC app.
However this also works in any iChat to iChat Connection no matter if the Buddy List is an AIM Login based one, Jabber (including GoogleTalk) or A LAN based Bonjour Chat.
In you care this is not going to work.
Getting the Standalone (Intel only) Browser Plug-in and using the Chat option in the Google Mail Web page is probably the easiest option.

Video input into Mini for live st-reaming

I want to use a Mac Mini for strea-ming video. Note: I want to broadcast the str-eaming videos, not watch them!
I will hook up a camcorder to the Mini, and then stream the video to a str-eaming service.
My question: how can I connect the camcorder to the Mac mini? Is the HDMI connection only for output, or can it be used for input too? I know the Firewire input will work, but few new camcorders come with Firewire. USB might work, anyone know?
The answer to this will help determine which camcorder I get. Also note that I want to do Live st-reaming, I don't want to just download recorded video.

A webcam will probably be the first thing I'll try, but I suspect that I will want higher resolution: I will be filming across a room so a camcorder's optical zoom would be useful.
How about USB? Will that work or is it too slow for stream ing?

No video input for external devices on iMac 24" display???

I got a 24" iMac a few days ago and love this thing. (Was in PC **** for last 30 years...) But one thing I am disappointed in is that there appears to be no video input to display video or to video capture. Is the only way to display video from an outside source by using a USB video capture device? For example, if I have a cable box or game console I want to display on the monitor, how can I do that? Seems silly to need to use a capture device to simply display video. Please let me know if there is simple way to do this. Thanks!

I don't see how using a camcorder would help especially although it would be technically possible to use it as a bridge between other devices I can't see how it would be worth your while.
Obviously not speaking from experience since almost all if not all DV cameras have passthrough, and feed video into a mac via firewire from the analog audio and video input port on the DV camera. They have been used for ages as decks (and are many times cheaper than DV decks) and as converters vs. buying a Canopus box etc., which are basically the same thing.
The EYE TV 250 does the same thing with a USB connection and its own software but for the myriad of DV cam owners the passthrough is a fine idea.

Help: Quartz Composer - Changing the Video Input Source to Firewire/Camera

I'm creating a Quartz composition, although can't seem to be able to select anything other than the built-in iSight camera of my mac. I have a camera attached via Firewire, and can record from it into Quicktime, for example, although can't get it as an input to QC.
I've created a video input source, and wired that to a billboard renderer. It displays the video from the iSight fine, but not from the camera.
I'm really stuck! Help!

Finally I managed to get this sorted!
I'd managed to miss the settings in the patch's Inspector window. By clicking on the input patch, then the inspector, I selected the DV camera in the settings drop-down.

IMovie hangs, no video input and then crash!!!! HELP!!

This is my first post here so I really hope you can help me.
I have a G4 Dual 1.25 with an Canopus ADVC -110 and every time that I want to import from the Beta SP (the input switch from the Canopus is in analog) the software show that the camera it's connected via firewire but I don't see any video input although I can see video output from Canopus in my reference monitors, and, if I switch to the edit tool or any other tablets or features the software crashes!!! I tried deleting the preferences, repairing disk and permission, reinstalled ILife again and nothing!
Then I reinstalled the system software and it worked fine but a few days ago I was converting a QT movie to a DV format so I can use it in Logic & ProTools and since then I'm having the same problem again.I deleted pref, repair disk and permisions but still the same!! I really need some help because this one of my main tools in my recording studio so I can do my msx scoring.

What I did I moved all the preferences to a new folder in my desktop and open iMovie and it worked fine so, I started to move them back individualy or in pairs anduntil i found the one wich was giving me ****!!it was a folder names by host after that the software still working just fine. Any ideas what this folder means ? because it had some preferences inside that I have no clue what they're about. Anyways, at least i know where to go next time if it happens again (hopefully it won't!!). Thanks for all your help and for your responses.

Is it possible for a mac to recognise a camcorder as a video input without using imovie/final cut, I use web based video capture software and need an HD input that the mac would recognise as if it were a webcam?

F4 Help for a dynamic input field( class CL_DD_INPUT_ELEMENT)

I am programming a dynamic document which has several input fields on it. I want to program F4 helps for these fields, does anyone have an idea how I can do that?
I have the idea to program a button(class CL_DD_BUTTON_ELEMENT) next to the input field and manually program an F4 help in the event handler of the button. But I do not know how I can handle pattern entries with '*' etc. in the input field. Is there a function module which could give me an F4 list(F4IF_INT_TABLE_VALUE_REQUEST could not be used, because it needs a dynpro field as a return field, which we do not have in this case).
