Help for my new E2500 router port forwarding

My home web hosting used to work. But because of changing ISP from Verizon to TWC, TWC gave me a modem-router and I bought my own Linksys E2500 router. Both Verizon and TWC services I subscribed are Dynamic IP. I use a third party to redirect the web traffic to my home.
TWC gave me a simple modem-router in a box. Input is coax and outputs are 4 ethernet ports. I use one of the 4 ethernet outputs of the TWC box to connect to the internet ethernet input port of the E2500. All my wire and wireless devices are now feeding off the E2500. All wireless and wired devices work and can browse internet through the E2500.
I have assigned one computer as the web server and set the internal IP addess of this computer as 192.168.1.128. This is the same for the setup with Verizon before.
I loaded the CD came with the E2500 router and can see the LAN 192.168.1.128.
My problem starts from here, I do not know how to set the port in E2500 to make the web traffic to 192.168.1.128
1. Using the E2500 CD, I click to "APPLICATION AND GAMING", then "SINGLE PORT FORWARDING". under the APPLICATION NAME, I select one of the box to HTTP and type in 128 under "TO IP ADDRESS". I then click ENABLED, then "save settings" . The 192.168.1 is fixed in this window, I can only type 128.
This does not work. I can browse internet but cannot access my website from any machines using domain name.
Then I tried:
2. with item 1 above, I continued to do SETUP>>BASIC SETUP>>DHCP RESEVERSATION. I can see the compute/sever name and the 192.168.1.128. I then click the "select" and save the client.
I restarted the computer/server, I unplug and plug the E2500 power. I check the server internal IP address and it is still the same. But I just cannot browse to my website. I can browse other places.
Any idea of what is wrong on my doing? Please help.

Your modem is a router. Any incoming internet requests end at the modem/router. You have to configure port forwarding on the modem/router first before the E2500 will see anything incoming from the internet.
Alternatives:
1. Set the modem/router into "bridge" mode which turns it into a simple modem. Then you can connect directly to the internet with your E2500.
2. Set up the E2500 as simple access point and keep the modem/router as your main and only router. Then all forwarding is done on the modem/router.

  • RV215W router port forwarding not working

RV215W router port forwarding not working.
Port forwarding works for a short period of time, then stops working.  Reboot router, works again for short period of time, then stops again.
I have updated firmware to latest.  I had seen other similar bugs posted for 220 and I think 180, not sure if this router has similar bugs and waiting for fix release to firmware.
I had recently purchased two, one deployed, will hold off on other now because of issues, and may have to move to different unit if a resolution not found this week.

It's not just single port forwarding that has bugs, the entire router has bugs and simply does not work as advertised. I have found the following bugs/aspects of this router that just does not work correctly: 1. If you have to open ports, and who doesn’t, this router will eventually stop accepting packets from WAN>LAN. You will still have Internet access but no open ports. A reboot will fix this problem. Oh, by the way, this router has no scheduled reboot option! <--That would be a workaround but a welcome one for this router. 2. Firewall Access rules do not work!! Yep, a Cisco router and basic functionality simply does not work. I called Cisco and even though the tech saw the router not working denied it was a bug! Said we have to do port mirroring, setup a workstation with WireShark and capture packets so we can debug the issues.  That would take several hours. I told him I would have appreciated if Cisco would have debugged the issues with their router BEFORE they shipped the units. Stay away from Cisco Small Business Routers. I wish I had. And if there are any Cisco die-hards out there willing to prove me wrong, just reply to this and please, prove me wrong that the RV series and specifically the RV215W is not JUNK.

Audio cable help for the new AppleTV.
Currently I have an original AppleTV with audio RCA plugs to mini plug into my BOSE speakers.
The 2nd Gen AppleTv has a Toslink input. I've looked at cables of Toslink to optical mini. Will this cable work? The optical mini part I'm not sure of what it is.
Thanks so much. The monitor I use doesn't have speakers.

If I understand your question correctly, you want to connect your Apple TV2 to your Bose system using a mini plug.
You will need an optical to digital coax RCA converter (find it on Ebay about $15), then you can connect your mini cable. Here is a link to one I recently bought on Ebay: http://fwd4.me/nrQ

  • I thought AppleTv & the reason for the new n router with USB HD port

I thought the whole reason for the new Airport n router with USB HD connection was to be able to connect a large, 500GB USB hard drive to the Aiport n. Then have ripped movies or photos stored on this network drive. And then AppleTV could stream from this hard drive? The 40gb AppleTV HD becomes mostly for the OS.
Now that is a powerful marriage of Apple hardware.

I thought the whole reason for the new Airport n router with USB HD connection was to be able to connect a large, 500GB USB hard drive to the Aiport n. And then AppleTV could stream from this hard drive?
Nope. As with iTunes Sharing, an Apple TV cannot use a library directly from a hard drive. You must have a computer running iTunes for the Apple TV to connect to.
You can, I believe, put your iTunes library on the Airport-shared hard drive, but I wouldn't be comfortable doing that if it were me. My view on such wireless hard drives is that they're best for file transfers and backups, not for use as one's primary storage device.

  • Help with a new RV082 Router

    Greetings all,
I hope this is the correct place to post my request for help.
I just installed a new RV082 Router and I can access the internet without any problems.
We have a security camera at 192.168.1.28 on the LAN side.  This works just fine on the LAN side but cannot be accessed from remote machines trying to log into the camera remotely.
The camera can be access on port 2782 without any problems using my Linux based Smoothwall router by going to any web browser such as Firefox or IE8 by keying in: http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xx:2782 and the camera’s web interface comes up allowing a user to login by keying in their id and password.
I’ve tried for a few hours now to change firewall setting but I still can’t get this to allow anyone to login remotely.
The Smoothwall router allows me to setup a pass through in the firewall by creating the follow entry:
    Protocol                                  TCP
    External Source IP                ALL
    Source Port                           2782
    Destination IP                        192.168.1.28
    Destination Port                    2782
    This works without any problems.
Can anyone help be configure the RV082 in order to gain access to the camera?
Any help will be appreciated.  This is now driving me crazy.
    Thanks

    Hi Howard,
To forward the port in the RV082, go to Setup-> Forwarding. Click the Service Management and create a new service for port 2782 (i.e. Service Name IPCam, Protocol TCP, Port Range 2782 to 2782, Add to list, Save Setting) Go back to Forwarding and select the new Service from the drop down list. Enter the IP address of the camera and check the Enable box. Add to list and Save Settings at the bottom of the page. Please let us know if this works or if you need further assistance.

  • Router Port Forwarding not working since Mavericks

I have an iMac sat behind a BT Home Hub 3 (an ADSL router, if you're not aware), with several ports (POP3, SSH, HTTP, etc) from the outside world forwarded via the hub to my Mac. Since installing Mavericks (from Snow Leopard), NONE of these ports are now open.
They're open on the Mac, and another machine on my home network can use them locally, but from outside the network, they're hidden. Shields Up shows them as Stealth.
    Things I've tried:
    Rebooting everything.
Setting the Home Hub up again, forwarding all the ports again.
Turning all the sharing off in Mavericks and then back on.
Trying the same services on different ports.
    Trying different services.
    Turning off the Mac firewall.
    Turning off the router firewall.
Trying the Mac on another IP address and reforwarding everything to the new one.
Putting the Mac in the DMZ.
I can forward ports to other devices on my network (e.g. my NAS) and they work fine, so port forwarding isn't completely broken on the router
    Here's the thing though...
On a completely separate network, on a separate Mac (a 2012 MacBook Pro) that went from Mountain Lion to Mavericks, also behind a BT Home Hub 3, EXACTLY the same thing is happening. No ports can be forwarded to the MacBook Pro, but all the ports are open to the local network.
Any ideas? I'm pretty sure this must be a bug in Mavericks as I can't see anything else it can be.

It's not just single port forwarding that has bugs, the entire router has bugs and simply does not work as advertised. • WRT54GS Wireless Router, Port Forwarding, LED Display

Hello everyone.  I'm using a Linksys router on a network like this:
I have comcast cable internet using the motorola cable modem that is supplied by them.  This is connected to my Linksys WRT54GS which is then connected to my desktop PC and laptop as well as a Troy500 print server.
The Troy500 print server is connected to an LED display with a serial cable.  The desktop PC has a logitech webcam on it.
I was able to setup the webcam to be viewed online, I had to use the web configurator in the router to forward ports 8000 and 8080 to the desktop PC which has a local IP address of 192.168.1.2.  This works fine.
My Laptop has an address of 192.168.1.3 and I am able to LOCALLY communicate to the Troy and display items on the LED using the laptop AND my desktop.  BUT when I forward ANY outside port to the Troy to try and get this to work remotely through the router I get a communication error.
Someone suggested that Comcast may be filtering various ports so I tried over 10 different port numbers and still get the same error.
I then tried to get help from a tech guy I know from florida and he was unable to get to the router through the remote management feature, we used port 9000, 7000, and port 9999, nothing worked to get him in.  ALSO he was unable to ping my outside IP.
BUT I am able to get online, and I'm able to see all the devices on the router, AND he's able to see the webcam which is using ports 8000 and 8080 to communicate outside.
    Any suggestions?
Oh, ALSO, nothing on this network is wireless except for the laptop, and this functions just the same when I plug CAT5 into it, it makes no difference.
Message Edited by Matusky on 09-11-2007 02:16 PM

first off , make sure that the router has the latest firmware...on the router ui , under the "security" tab , disable "block anonymous internet request" ... check whether these changes make any difference....

  • ActionTec + second router = port forwarding issue

I'm having an issue with port forwarding (or maybe routing) across a pair of routers with different subnets. I know just enough about networking to be dangerous, but I can't figure this out. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable here can assist me.
Here's how my network is currently setup:
    1) Standard FIOS ActionTec MI424-WR Rev D router, using default 192.168.1.* subnet.
    2) Added a second router (D-Link Wireless-N w/ Gigabit Ethernet) using the 192.168.2.* subnet.
    3) A patch cable connects an ActionTec LAN port to the D-Link WAN port.
    4) Most of my computers connect to the D-Link router for faster network speeds (desktop PC, NAS, etc.)
    5) Both routers are running DHCP and broadcasting different SSIDs. This is so I can have a private network for my personal data (192.168.2.*) and a guest network (192.168.1.*) that friends/family/guests can use. Basically, from the 192.168.2.* network, I can access any network resource on either subnet; the 192.168.1.* network, however, cannot (easily) access the resources on the other subnet.
    6) This setup works perfectly and has met all of my needs so far.
Now, the problem I'm running into:
I purchased a security camera to monitor my home over the internet while away. It is connected to the D-Link router and I can access the camera without issue while on the 192.168.2.* network. Everything works fine locally. However, I cannot access the camera from the internet.  For sake of ease, let's use the following example setup:
    Internet IP = 74.1.2.3
    Router 1 = 192.168.1.1
    Router 2 = 192.168.2.1
    Camera = 192.168.2.2
    Camera Port = 12345
Accessing the camera locally via http://192.168.2.2:12345 works fine, but accessing it remotely via http://74.1.2.3:12345 does not. I assume a route or port forward needs to be set on Router 1 (the FIOS ActionTec)? Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    -Patrick
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

For future viewers, I will throw this out there. You don't normally want two routers with two port forward rules. The best practice is to give the second router a static ip on the lan of the first router and then put the second router in the dmz of the first router, and then apply port forward uses to the dmz'd router.

  • Exch2k7 to Exch2k10 - SSL 'request' help for the new server

    Hi,
after read the article 'http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd638158.aspx', we already have MBX and CAS 2007 running the lastest spk version and the SSL on the CAS 2007 is already working as 'LEGACY.DOMAIN.COM.BR' + 'Autodiscover.domain.com.br'
    + 'mail.domain.com.br'.
My question is regarding the SSL request for the new server:
    >>> Can I start the REQUEST for the external Certification Authority using Windows Powershell or IIS console instead to use 'Exchange Management Shell'??
    * I´m afraid about the time (days) to install CAS 2010 on the new server, start the request to the CA, do the internal steps to aprove, pay the tax, wait for generation and then install the new SSL on the new server...

    Hi,
Based on my research, we can use IIS renew the certificate for IIS:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/228991
And Windows power shell can help us to create certificate request:

  • PLEASE HELP i have trouble with WRT54G port forwarding with linksys

Hello guys, i play a game called populous, and since im on a router i cannot host the game, when i used to have a d-link all i would do is have to set up the port to my ip with the udp. but ever since i have swiched to linksys that doesnt work, the ip on my portforwaring is the same as the one on my computer the port is correct and the udp is set, i also have no fire walls on and it still doesnt make a differance, Someone in the game suggested that there is a local ip i need to get? is that true or is there another setting i need to set up in my router page?
PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN <3<3 thanks
Message Edited by Curtman on 09-07-2007 12:04 PM

Yes that happens if you write replies to your own posts. Many regulars here only answer their "own" topics (i.e. to which they have answered before) and new ones which don't have replies, yet. If you write a reply to your own topic chances are your are not read unless during some random browsing...
Regarding your problem it is impossible to say anything unless you give the exact settings you have on your router. Please post the full settings you have for port forwardings, port triggering and DMZ. If you have UPnP forwarding in your router (I don't think you have) post those settings, too.
Otherwise I suggest this checklist for troubleshooting port forwardings.

  • Linksys router port forwarding suddenly closed

i have a 54G wireless home router ..... successfully port fowarded an application from a CPU (server).... but after no connection made from the user to the server .....  it suddenly close the application ..... so what i did is to reboot the router in order to refresh the connection ......
Is there any other ways to fix this sudden close of the ports ?  so that i would do anymore reboots on my router
I really appreciate any help .....

MTU is the Maximum Transmission Unit. It specifics the largest packet size permitted for Internet transmission. Select Manual if you want to manually enter the largest packet size that will be transmitted. The recommended size, entered in the Size field, is 1500. You should leave this value in the 576 to 1500 range. To have the Router select the best MTU for your Internet connection, keep the default setting, Auto. A larger MTU brings greater efficiency because each packet carries more user data while protocol overheads, such as headers or underlying per-packet delays, remain fixed; the resulting higher efficiency means a slight improvement in bulk protocol throughput. A larger MTU also means processing of fewer packets for the same amount of data But sometimes we have to manually input the size if the router is unable to determine the actual size.
Now for your second part of the question: Where do you check the external IP address of the router? You have to go to the status page of teh router to check the IP address.  If you have a dynamic IP address from your ISP, then it will change frequently and you wont be able to ping the previous address.
Also, what is the firmware version on the router?

  • Help for my new ea3500

    Hi
I'm a new wireless user and I have been having some trouble with my new router. Before I go into details, I have tried looking all over the internet for a fix I could do myself, but have had little luck. Also as I am new to this all, I don't really know that much so, explain it all very simply.
Ok so, for normal day to day web surfing (Youtube, downloading files and so on) it's fine, perfect actually. Fast and simple. But i'm a gamer. And this is where my router has problems (I think it's the router?). I play TF2 and L4D2, and I noticed some lag spikes in TF2 a few weeks ago. Looked around and found a WLAN optimizer. Installed it and TF2 worked fine. But for L4D2, not so. Last few nights I have seen huge lag spikes. I'm talking about over 2000 ping. It's random so it's not Vista's wireless searching.
I can't play L4D2 anymore and i'm worried that TF2 is going to be like this too now (I haven't played it for a while so I don't know). I really need some help here.
Like I said I don't know if it's the router or if it's my wireless card (I'm on a desktop so I had to get a card installed) or if it's Comcast. I do remember when I was hooked into a hardline I didn't have these issues. So obviously wireless is the issue.

You can customize the wireless settings of your router. Make sure to set a fixed channel. You can access this article for reference http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?pid=80&vw=1&articleid=3698. Just to verify, are you experiencing it with 1 wireless computer? Perhaps, you can follow the steps below for the wireless adapter.
    1) Open network connections
    2) Wireless Network Connection -> Properties
    3) Configure -> Advanced
    4) List of changes:
    Roam Tendency: Aggressive
    Power Save Mode: Disabled
    Minimum Power Consumption: Disabled
    IBSS 54g(tm) Mode: 54g - Performance
    AP Compatibility Mode: Higher Performance
    Roaming Decision: Optimize Distance
    5) Press OK, disable/enable your wireless connection and you're good to go!
NOTE: Windows Wireless Zero Configuration is making a spike lag every 1 minute exactly, we are talking here about wireless card problem which is causing lag every 8-10 seconds exactly. If you have lag every 1 minute, you have to stop Windows Wireless Zero Configuration service. Detailed how-to on this can be read on link below: http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/Wireless-Network-Ping-Spikes-t101910.html
