Help for Water Damaged PB?

Someone (probably a small child) spilled some water on the counter behind a 2003 PB G4. It had been sleeping. I noticed that it was off, picked it up and saw a small puddle of water under the rear grill. It could have been standing in the water for 12 hours.
I immediately removed the battery and used a hair dryer (on cool). I stood it on its back so the remaining water would drain. I let it set for about a day. I then tried to turn it on.
It made the familiar hard drive click, and the caps lock key lit green. Observed closely, the start up screen was being displayed. But there was no starting chime, and the display would not light. More ominously, a faint electrical smell wafted out, as if after a thunder storm.
My guess (fear) is that the power to the display and speakers shorted, and it is probably uneconomic to have it repaired. But I am encouraged by others' success stories in similar straits. So, any advice would be appreciated.

I once repaired a clients iBook after some sort of weight watchers shake leaked into their backpack and totally drenched it. They turned it on and could only get random flashing of the caps lock...nothing else. Figuring we had little to lose at that point, I completely stripped the machine down, removed the logic board and blasted it out with a can of compressed air. The mega shake junk was everywhere but somehow managed to avoid the hard disk, CD drive and screen. Liquid was under a number of chips on the logic board and had to be thorougly blasted with air. Holding that board covered in dried brown gunk, I remember thinking there is no way this is going to work...but after getting it back together 2 hours later, the thing fired up just fine. I believe it is still going after a couple of years.
I'm not suggesting you try this yourself or that your book isn't already too far gone (the burning smell can't be good). But after seeing where liquid can get trapped inside, I'm pretty sure you'd have to open the thing up for it to have fighting chance at drying out. Good luck!

MacBook Pro Retina, left in bag in the rain. Can I check for water damage?

Today, while my laptop was in its sleeve in my bag, it started to rain quite heavily. My bag was exposed to the rain for maybe 15-25 minutes and the contents of my bag weren't too wet, however I noticed that there was a late patch of water on the corner of my sleeve. My MacBook Pro was in sleep and the lid was closed but after inspecting my MacBook Pro I found water to have been wedged between my mac and my plastic case I have on it on both the top and bottom as well as some on the black hinge connecting the body to the display and very little on the display side itself. My MacBook Pro woke from sleep fine but I switched it off anyway.
After drying drying my laptop and using a hair dryer to dry within the ports and vents in case , it is now currently drying. I don't want to switch it on in case there is water damage and it might short circuit.
My question is, is there a way I can check for water damage and what should I do now before I switch it on?

Did you take off the bottom panel? If not do so.
Make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar and have them inspect it. The evaluation will be FREE and they are in the best position to attack the issue.

Charged $299 for water damage, from an occassional rain drop in top charging port

I have been charged $299 for water damage to my motorola Droid. The water is from an occassional rain drop coming in the top charging port. I contend that is a design flaw. Anybody else run into this?

Of course it is a design flaw. That is why I have a Casio Commando. My first smartphone was a Verizon blackberry and it was the worst for water damage...it got a foggy screen after being through a rainstorm inside a water resistant bicycle handlebar bag. No phone should suffer damage from casual contact with water, folks. People are 70% water after all. You could put some of these in your pocket, go jogging, and ruin the phone...sort of defeats the purpose of the phone don't you think?
Good to see that Verizon was so reasonable about repairing it, don't you think?

Estimate cost for water damaged iPod touch 2nd gen?

My iPod touch 2nd generation 8BG fell into water a month ago and doesn't turn on at all, sometimes a grey screen appears but thats all. Does apple still repair it and I was wondering how much it would cost, thank you.

Help with water damage

hi i have recently spilt a glass of water on my macbook pro, It was turned of at the time, I tried turning it on afterwoods but nothing, i know water damage is not covered by apples warranty so really after some help or advice with this matter.

Water damage is covered under your Homeowner/Renters policy.

Yes the AppleCare+ covers two incidents of accidental damage. But it has to be purchased with in 30 days from Date of purchase. So unless you have insurance from your carrier. You will have to pay a OOW repair cost.

IPhone 5C Replacement Fees for Water Damage

If I have an iPhone 5C that does not have AppleCare+ coverage and therefore does not have water damage coverage and I damage it via liquid contact, what are the fees to replace the phone with a new one?

Help on water damaged iphone and erasing data?

My iphone has water damage so the screen does not work, however It does have power and I was able to download camera roll. Is there a way to erase all data remotely if you cannot use the screen? Since I have to ship the phone back.

I never did set up" find my iphone". I never even turned on back up icloud! I was clueless about the phone. So if the syncing with itunes as "restore as a new phone" will work I will do this since I never did this either! thanks
icloud tip: To use remote wipe, you need to have set up Find My iPhone on the device before you lost it.

Help! water damage on my iphone!

My two year old cousin threw my iphone into our swimming pool today, and it doesn't seem to be working the flash won't go off and it's very hot. What do I do? Help!

HOLD THE SLEEP/WAKE BUTTON UNTIL IT IS OFF.
Throw it in a plastic bag full of rice to try and absorb any water and leave it that way for at least a week. DO NOT turn it on. Keep it off. Do not turn it on.
At this point, it's probably toast, but it will definately be dead if you turn it on with even a tiny bit of water in it.
Apple doesn't fix wet iPhones. You'll have to buy a replacement if it's dead.

Any hope for water damaged iPod?

The iPod received a sprinkle of water and worked fine for several hours after. Then I could no longer turn it on....I am assuming it is the water. Any other explanation possible?

Place the iPod is a sealed container with a desiccant like uncooked rice for a week. Periodically change the rice.

Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for $99 for 16 GB 5G and $149 for the other 5Gs. They do not fix yours.

I purchased the iPhone 4 with upgrade cost eligibility, so $199. I sadly got my iPhone wet, so now it is dead, how much will it cost for me to replace it? Would I still be eligible for $199 price or do I have to pay full retail? I have no coverage plans whatsoever. I hope to God I do not have to pay full retail! Please help, thanks!

Well its a unlocked iphone4 32gb purchased from Saudi Telecom (the National Telecom Service of Saudi Arabia) STC ..I went to Apple store they said in Gulf countries they dont have this replacement policy available till date but I can send it to US and get it replaced..but I am afraid if US refuses to replace it saying its bought in Saudi Arabia.kindly advice .........Regards

HELP! Water Damage to Ipod

I left my ipod in my pocket, and I accidentally put it in the wash. Stupid, I know, but I'm desperate. Does anyone know how I can get my ipod working again? It hasn't shown any signs of life and it's only 6 months old!

Let it dry out for a good week or so. You might throw it inside a zip lock bag of white dry rice or one of those little "Do Not Eat" desiccant packages you get packed in electronics.
Then try it again. If it still does not work, likely the battery is destroyed and you might try replacing the battery.

HELP! water damage on iphone 4, reboots itself every 5 minutes!

2 days ago i dropped my phone in water and immediately got it out and tried to dry it off.
I switched off the phone and left it in un cooked rice for 48 hours, i switched it on today and everything seems to be working fine.. apart from... the phone keeps switching itself off and re-booting every 5 minutes
i have since taken the back case off, dried it, put it back together and left it to dry out even more.
does anyone know what else i can do? or what the excate problem is that is causing it to switch off and re boot every couple of minutes?

The problem is that it got wet while it was under power, this most likely will have caused a short between parts of the circuitry that normally are separated. It may (if you stop using it while there is some moisture left inside it) revert to normal operation, frankly I doubt that very much.
Take it to Apple for diagnosis, you can avail yourself of a 'non warranty replacement' while you are there, if needed.

Out of warranty replacement for water damaged iphone??

I went to the beach and forgot my iphone was in my pocket. I remembered it was in my pocket when the water reached my pocket. It totally dead now. It's a black 16 gb iphone 4.
I was wondering if apple can replace my iphone with a refurbished white iphone 4s instead of an iphone 4 for 200 dollars or are they obligated to give me the same model iphone?
