Help! G3 freaking out/kernel panic/memory problems
Hi All,
I put some pc 133 512 mb memory in my G3 [which is actually pc 100, but supposedly should work fine] and then it kernel paniced.
Now it mostly seems to recognize memory in the slot closest to the screen. But only 64 and 32 mb sticks.
Plus, it only boots to OS9 which is on a seperate partition to OSX which is where it is supposed to go, even after setting OSX as the startup.
It also always wants the time adjusted- perhaps the battery is flat- I put it all aside for a month after it happened.
Could the 512 MB pc 133 have fried something? It seems very fragile.
Safe start just keeps rebooting, and X on startup is ignored and os 9 starts.
HELP!!!
Any ideas gratefully received,
Wumpsdad
Hey annexit,
Yes I get a lot of donated computers so I have probably 80 or so sticks of RAM around here mostly PC 100 and 133 out of both PCs and Macs. I'm constantly sorting through them and marking them: "Works w/ iMac G3, Kernal panic in iMac G4, Works in tower G4 Sawtooth, not recognized...etc."
..old G3 iMac 500 Mhz with one 128 and one 256 PC133 (probably scammed from a G4 tower when I upgraded that),
Was planning to replace the 128 with a 512 PC100 - I saw the post from spudnuty
If you look here:
http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/apple/memory/iMac/G3450MHz_500MHz_600MHz700MHz
OWC sells a mix of PC 100 and 133 for that machine. They are very good at taking it back if it doesn't work.
Is your G4 Tower still on your net?
running panther, safari crashing and I can't print to the attached printer from the intel laptops wirelessly..
Hmm that should work. I use a MDD G4 Tower as my workhorse and am able to print to it no problem. It's running Leopard now however but I don't remember a problem when it was running Tiger.
Running Panther could be your problem. I was lucky when I bought an iMac G4 for $50 (bad hard drive) in the bottom of the box was a complete set of Tiger CD installers (rare).

I am writting to ask for help with my old version MacBook Pro early 2008 with Kernel Panic 9C2028 10.5.2 Darwin 9.2.1. My MacBook Pro freezes up with a panic and have to shut it down by pressing and holding the power button. When I restard the comp it keep showing the same Kernel Panic. Will any body outthere heppe me get out this freezes up panic kernel Darwin 9.2.1.
Thanks YouLooks like a RAM failure or maybe another hardware failure.
Can you take out the battery and with the charger connected start up? Same failure?
Have you tried the SMC reset and PRAM reset? do both twice. -
HELP!!! Kernel Panics & Heat...
Hey everyone,
I woke up this morning to find my MacBook's fan on in my computer case. Then, when I go to turn on the machine, I find out that it won't restart/power-up. Apparently, it had been on in clamshell mode and basically turned itself off due to the heat issue. IT WAS FREAKIN' HOT! Why it turned itself on anyways I don't know.
After I let it cool down, a whole bunch of these kernel panics came up. Can anyone help me with what these mean?

- JaySorry about your problem. I think that a kernel panic happens when your computer gives a program an instruction that the program doesn't understand and can't carry out. Or, maybe it's the other way around. Something like that. I also had kernel panics with my MB too and posted questions on these dicussions. I didn't get any answers unfortunately but you might. There are several troubleshooting options like resetting the SMU, running the hardware test, repairing permissions but I don't know if those methods would solve your problem though. Just call Applecare and see if they can help you. That would be the best thing to do.

Help deciphering Mac Pro kernel panic report
Hi all,
my Mac Pro (early 2009, quad core 2.93GHz, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285) has experienced some kernel panics with automated restarts (8 in total) over the past couple weeks. All panic logs show hardware errors of the "Read ECC" kind, though the affected cores vary (3x CPU 0, 2x CPU 2, 1x each CPU 4, 6 and 7). I am hoping that it's only one of the DIMMs gone bad (I was thinking about upgrading the RAM anyway), but I fear it might be the mem controller, one of the caches or the CPU itself.
There seem to be quite a few knowlegable people around, so can you please have a look at the panic log and give me a hint towards the culprit? Would be much appreciated.
Best regards, Armin

Eight additional check bits (called Syndrome bits) are stored with each word in RAM memory. When Read out, the data and the syndrome are used together to detect and correct errors.
Single-bit errors are corrected on-the-fly with essentially no slowdown is processing speed.
Uncorrectable errors such as most double-bit errors cause a Kernel panic by design, to halt the machine and keep errors from propagating into your data.
Your kernel panic does indeed show the characteristics of an uncorrectable RAM memory error. The likelihood that the problem is caused by any of the other failures you listed is vanishingly small.

Please help me solve my kernel panics
I have been having kernel panics almost daily for about 2 weeks and I can't figure out what to do. I have tried repair disk, repair permissions and no luck. I ran software update and everything is updated.
Here is my latest panic report. Any help would be great.

COULD ANYONE HELP ME PLEASE???com.bresink.driver.BRESINKx86Monitoring
Uninstall the software associated with this according to the developer's instructions. Often, kernel panics are caused by third party kernel extensions which are either deprecated or incompatible. Note that you should also have pairs of RAM modules installed, IE either (2x2GB or 2x4GB for your model). Non-pairs can make OSX unstable.

HELP!!! KERNEL PANIC!!!
Can anyone decipher this message? It comes up when I turn on my computer and I can't get any further; I have tried to repair the disk and disk permissions, but nothing is working!
Here is the message that appears:

IF ANYONE CAN HELP, IT WOULD BE VERY MUCH APPRECIATED!Sometimes one pass won't find problem. Depends.
At the least, I assume you repaired your disk drive(s) to verify the drive's directory and permissions are good.
You might want to do a clean erase and install on a test drive.
A lot of problems actually begin with memory errors, lead to corrupt prefs and files, and writing of errors to the disk drive and even directory.
I was impressed with AHT on this Mac Pro at how well and easily it found memory errors. better than older versions of AHT for sure.
Keep your eye on the Console > system.log and panic.log for one thing.
Backup. And try doing an install on another drive.
Even 3rd party hardware devices (like USB) can cause some problems.
And search for "kernel panic" - MacFixit, MacIntouch are both excellent and get a lot of reader feedback.
Anything "unusual" about software installed? something that needs to use Rosetta or hasn't been upgraded? and, did you use Migration Assistant and bring over programs etc from a PPC machine? -
When starting the 9.0.1 iFS running on a 9.0.1.4 Database and Tru64 5.1 O/S, the following errors are displayed:
IFS-35205: Failed to get prepared statement
java.sql.SQLException:ORA-04030: Out of process memory when trying to allocate 1048 bytes (callheap, kghsstk).
Database has the following parameters:
shared pool 150M
java pool 100M
large pool 5M
DB Cache 60M
DB Block Size 8K
Sort area size 1M
Server has 1GB ram, 12GB swap.
Please can anyone help?Hi Alan,
your help with this is most appreciated!
I ran your suggested generated SQL script, but at first the same problem was occuring with the first ALTER statement that happened to be generated.
However, your explanation mentioned the view 'odm_publicobject' and although this view wasn't in the resulting SQL, I found that compiling the similarly named views in this order worked...
ODMV_PUBLICOBJECT
ODBV_PUBLICOBJECT
ODMBS_PUBLICOBJECT
ODMS_PUBLICOBJECT
ODUS_PUBLICOBJECT
ODUV_PUBLICOBJECT
(Perhaps other combinations would have worked, but in anycase certainly some orders didn't work...)
At this point, running the complete original generated SQL script then worked successfully and low and behold as you predicted, IFS started successfully.
(I didn't actually bother removing these 6 already re-compiled views from the original script, so they got re-compiled twice...)
So this means that we can now actually stop and start IFS as required without re-installing IFS everytime - which is obviously great!
I will certainly be watching out for 9.0.3, but my understanding for the reason we were going with 9.0.1 in the first place was that this was included in the RDBMS CD-pack, whereas I believe from 9.0.2 onwards it was seperately licensed. I will check with our Oracle dba's.
But at least we can prove in principle now whether it will suit our requirements....
Once again, many thanks for looking into this at such a deep level - very much appreciated.
Graham. -
Can someone please help me decipher my kernel panic logs??
Recently I keep getting kernel panics while I am using Safari (Not sure if it's the only reason). The same thing happened everytimg when I played StarCraft(Download from Blizzard Website) on my Mac. I am not sure whether it's a software problem or a hardware problems. Can someone please decipher the logs for me?? Thank you so much!

Darwin Kernel Version 8.11.1: Wed Oct 10 18:23:28 PDT 2007; root:xnu-792.25.20~1/RELEASE_I386Jerry, welcome to Apple Discussions.
Understanding crash logs isn’t easy and it’s hard (sometimes impossible) to decipher the cause of the problem. Take a look at Apple’s Crash Reporter document at http://developer.apple.com/technotes/tn2004/tn2123.html
Also look at Tutorial: An introduction to reading Mac OS X crash reports
http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20060309075929717
Nothing "jumped out" in you crash log.
Kernel panics are usually caused by a hardware problem – frequently RAM, a USB device or a Firewire device. What external devices do you have connected? When trying to troubleshoot problems, disconnect all external devices except your monitor, keyboard and mouse. Do you experience the same problems?
To eliminate RAM being the problem, Look at this link: *Testing RAM* @ http://guides.macrumors.com/Testing_RAM Then download & use Memtest & Ramber.
Do you have an Apple Hardware Test disc? Running the Apple Hardware Test in Loop Mode is an excellent troubleshooting step for finding intermittent hardware problems. It is especially useful when troubleshooting intermittent kernel panics. If Loop Mode is supported by the version of the Apple Hardware Test you are using, you run the Extended Test in Loop Mode by pressing Control-L before starting the test. Looping On should appear in the right window. Then click the Extended Test button. The test will run continuously until a problem is found. If a problem is found, the test will cease to loop, indicating the problem it found. If the test fails, be sure to write down the exact message associated with the failure. In some cases, RAM problems did not show up until nearly 40 loops, so give it a good run.
May be a solution on one of these links.

May I ask which part of the log should I be looking at to see what is causing the kernel panic? -
After encoding, out of application memory: problem & solution
Shortly after completing a batch in Compressor 4.1 running in OS 10.9.1, I started receiving an error message that the system was out of application memory. (Despite the fact that I have 16 GB of RAM!) I had activity monitor open and there were numerous instances of "qmasterqd not responding" in red present. The error message made me force quit both compressor and activity monitor. I shut the computer all the way down and then rebooted. Reopened both programs. All of the qmasterqd not responding threads had disappeared in AM. Resubmitted my batch in compressor. As soon as it completed, all of the qmasterd not responding threads reappeared in AM. Also, I noticed that "application memory" went from about 2 GB to 15.99! I had to reboot again.
Mystery solved: I remembered that I also have FCS 3 installed on my hard drive (in its' separate folder). As an experiment, I cloned my HD to an external firewire drive. Then, on the clone, I uninstalled compressor 3.5, Apple Qmaster, and compressor 4.1 using Digital Rebellion's FCS uninstaller. Rebooted clone, emptied trash. Reinstalled compressor 4.1 from app store. Submitted batch as above- Problems went away. I suspect that the Qmaster stand alone program in FCS also became active when submitting a batch in compressor 4.1 that now has Qmaster already incorporated into it. This caused it to seize resources while competing with the new version. Uninstalling the old program removed this conflict. I went back to my original HD, uninstalled compressor 3.5 and apple Qmaster. No problems since doing that. And BTW, it was no great loss losing compressor 3.5 on my Mavericks system since it didn't work nearly as well as when I was running it in Lion! Thanks for that helpful info, even though I haven't (knock on wood) run into that. I also have 3.5 on Mavericks and so far it coexists well with 4.1. But I'm sure your experience will help others trying to troubleshoot similar problems.

Please help me diagnose this kernel panic, thank you
this kernel panic (I have it sporadically) seems to be related to airport somehow.
( com.apple.driver.AirPortBrcm43xx(305.25.82)@0x330a3000->0x331cffff)?
is there any way for me to replace or upgrade my airport driver, or prevent this from occurring?
thank you very much for any and all assistance, no matter how small!

That should point to where the problem occurred, but points to 0x0. Micron is good RAM, but there’s always the possibility one stick is bad.
However, you have several known trouble-makers and a few kexts that I don’t know about.
Logmein
Little Snitch
Nvidia CUDA
ContourDesign Shuttle
If Parallels is up to date, it shouldn’t be a problem.
Carolyn has already suggested the ones I would find suspect and disable to test. You can just boot into Safe Mode to isolate problem kexts. Booting in Safe Mode should disable them. If you don’t get any Panics, then it would point to one of the kexts.

Help needed to interpret kernel panic
Hello everybody
Recently I've had a couple of kernel panics on my MacBookPro 13'' (OSX Lion 10.7.2 version, 2,26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 8GB 1333 MHz DDR3)
The last one occured today : I was opening Google Earth (the last version) to see the GPS position of a boat( from a link with the GPS coordinates taken from a website). Itunes and Safari were running, and also a PDF document.
The Kernel panic appears few seconds after opening Google Earth.
I also replaced memory and hard drive few weeks ago, and I just hope I didn't do something wrong.
here is the panic log :
