Help getting Arch64 installed [SOLVED]

I'll try my best not to make this too wordy:
I rebuilt my system last weekend using the Arch 64 FTP ISO. It went very well. I had a major harddrive problem today so I tried to re-install with the exact same disc. It doesn't work. For some reason, any ISO that I burn for 64 bit Linux will simply not be recognized when BIOS looks to the disc. In order to not waste time, these are the details:
1) The first attempt was with a disc that worked perfectly less than 7 days ago
2) I tried different images from different servers, and they aren't recognized
3) My system picks up on the copy of Knoppix I burned today
4) That copy of Knoppix is on the same set of discs that I burned my SEVEN copies of the ISO
5) Other live discs that I have also start properly
6) My system picks up on a 32 bit Arch disc that I have
7) And no, I did not copy the ISOs themselves. They burned the way that they should
BIOS is fine. My DVD drive seems to be fine. The discs that I'm using seem to be fine. Nothing at all seems to help.
This one is bad. Help?!?!?!?!?!?!
It turns out the Arch 64 FTP install ISOs are broken. How I got the one that I had to work is beyond me. My best guess is that there were still install files from the failed attempt that I had already on the harddisk. The 64 bit Base ISO using FTP as the install method worked perfectly.

For amconfig I need to have AM installed, and i can't use the JES installer to config AM if its already installed, so can't provided the exact error for that.Access Manager can indeed be a real pain. I would suggest also asking for assistance on the access manger forum:

    Alright, I have a friend that just purchased a G4 off of the net, and the people never erased the hard drive, so he is trying to get their OS off and his store bought OS X on. He finally figured out to get through their password, and got that worked out, but now he popped in his OS install disc, and it asks for the restart, he does, and then nothing happend.
    How can he boot from the disc? I thought it was com opt shift delete, but he says that is not working.
    Any ideas?

    To select a different boot volume there are two options:
    1. Permanent change of boot volume: Open Startup Disk preference, select desired startup volume from icon list, click on Restart button.
    2. Temporary change of boot volume: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the icon of the desired startup volume, click arrow button.
    If your cannot start the computer with the disc you have then there are three basic possibilities: 1. The version of OS X on the installer disc can not boot that model; 2. You are using an OEM disc (gray label) that will only work with a specific Mac model; 3. The disc you have is an Upgrade disc (the word "Upgrade" will be printed on the disc label) and will only work if a prior version of OS X is already installed.
    Because I don't know the specific Mac model involved I cannot tell you what the minimum required OS X version would be.

    I was thinking it was because of permissions using the system account sccm uses to install the software? could that be the case? it works for some but not all. and there is a known issue from Aruba, the vendor, but of course they have not given us any fix.
    the issue they had was when you install the 6.3.3 version through SCCM, which we orginally pushed out, the upgrade through the clearpass server or the push of the new 6.3.5 version through sccm does not work on all, but I would say maybe 25% at best do
    from what i am seeing.

  • Need some help getting iTunes installed

    I already know that I have a problem installing iTunes and its during the "publishing product information" part of the installation. I got my hands on a Windows XP Home Edition disc . . . I attempted to do the installation repair . . . part way through it I was asked to give the "administrators password" . . . this I do not know. After the third wrong password I was told that I needed to reboot and start over. I am trying to avoid the re-installing windows b/c of all the factory crap that I have on this comptuer.
    Is there anyone out there that can break this down to me big bird and barney style?? I have been on the phone waiting to talk to someone at compaq from more than 80 mins now!!

    what administrative rights do you have on that PC?
    if you don't have administrative rights, can you contact the administrator to get them to do the install for you?

    You don't have to install the Find My iPhone app - you need to switch the feature on in the settings on the phone.

    thanks so much for your posts back. I really appreciate it and yes that does help to know that you could not get it working.
    I did have some success, in removing the SSL Authentication checkbox in the smtp server settings - I found that this allowed my friend to be able to send mail from the mail app via his sbcglobal (yahoo) account.
    So that did help but of course the messages do not have ssl encryption and I'm not sure how big a deal that is for an individual. He is able to receive mail but unless the SSL authentication box is unchecked, he cannot send.

    I have updated the entire Creative Cloud repeatedly, even used the cleaner tool to remove older files, preferences and OOBE file and still cannot use update from help menu in IndesignCC to get DPS tools. It is greyed out.
    No options available in the folio builder either.  And if i close the folio builder the only way it comes back is to reset the publishing profile.
    Please help as learning this software has become a priority in my industry.

  • [Self Solved] Problems trying to get the install.exe to run

    After trying for 3 days to get the install.exe to run on my new computer I eventually ran out of options. You could see, however, that in the task manager, once you clicked on the .exe that it would run for a bit, max out at ~8k and then disappear. The two things I could think of were that A. It might have been a registry error that is preventing me from running the .exe and B. that it might be a service that is blocking it. I did not want to go through the stress of re-installing windows just so I could get the install.exe to run over a hunch that my registry might be foul. Instead I performed a clean boot that would prevent a service from stopping the installation. Upon restarting I was able to run the install.exe and I finally have adobe reader running. For anyone who is not familiar with a clean boot it can be done as follows:
    Pressing [Win] + r OR Start > search
    and then typing "msconfig.exe" + enter will open up the system configuration screen.
    then click on the "Services" tab, followed by clicking the box "Hide all Microsoft services" so that it has a checkmark inside it, followed by clicking the button "Disable All"
    Your computer will then be prompted to restart
    Upon launching your windows interface go to your downloads folder and then try to run the install.exe, if it works, as did mine, it would appear that a certain service was blocking it.
    Hope this helps the .02% of people who actually have this problem when installing

    Alternate solution: use the offline installer from http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/

    That doesn't make any sense to me at all, unless the games you're trying to play have some sort of online connection/capability and you're in a weak signal area, thus the games can't make the required online connection. What happens when you turn cellular data off in settings: Settings>General>Network>Cellular Data>Off.

    And another on the finder column bug in list mode.
    And a few more in the pipeline if I find the motivation: I'm afraid my long relationship with Apple is flagging. They are excessively focussed on consumer goods and leaving their core business to wither away.
    Maybe more serious users aren't profitable to them, and they are happy to let it wither.
    So presumably they are happy if we wander off and start focussing on all the open source  unixes out there.
    p.s. not happy with general Apple trends since about 10.6.8, can anyone tell ?

    I'm building a PKGBUID for a program called Cafe Pilot.  I'm using it for the computer lab in my shop and could use some help getting it to execute properly.  I'm pretty sure the PKGBUILD is good, because I can build and install just fine, but I get the error message below when I try to execute via CLI:

    not quite sure what this means... do I need to use JRE, or can i get away with openjdk on this?  ANY input would help... working on the companion client package, but wanted to get the server out of the way first so I can streamline the creation of the client's PKGBUILD...  Thanks in advance!

    1. The usage of the -classpath switch is incorrect. Per manpage, you invoke it like "-classpath <somepath>". So when you call
    java -classpath -jar CafePilot_Server.jar
    java 6 will throw an "NoClassDefFoundError: CafePilot_Server/jar". That means, java failed to find the class "jar" in the package "CafePilot_Server", which is not exactly what you intended to do (in java packages are delimited by dots like com.mypackage.MyClass, which would go into a file hierarchy like ./com/mypackage/MyClass.class). java 7 will give you the more shorter message: "Could not find or load main class CafePilot_Server.jar"
    So in short, the -classpath flag eats your -jar flag. The easiest way around this is, to omit "-classpath", which will result the classpath defaulting to the current directory, or to call "-classpath /opt/CafePilot_Server/".
    2. About the '/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk/bin/java' part: Is there a specific reason to not call the "java" command directly? On a java 7 install:
    $file `which java`
    /usr/bin/java: symbolic link to `/usr/lib/jvm/java-7-openjdk/jre/bin/java'
    And on a java 6 one:
    $file `which java`
    /usr/bin/java: symbolic link to `/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk/bin/java`
    So i would promote one of the following options:
    a)
    #!/bin/bash
    cd /opt/CafePilot_Server
    java -jar CafePilot_Server.jar
    b)
    #!/bin/bash
    java -classpath /opt/CafePilot_Server/ -jar /opt/CafePilot_Server/CafePilot_Server.jar
    I do not really have an idea of what the program is supposed to do, but as far as i can see, b) has the advantage, that you do not need to call it as root, since the program will write some logs to the current directory. So when you call a) as a normal user, you will get an Permission denied error, because the programm could not write its derby.log to /opt/CafePilot_Server/, whereas for b) you could call it from your home directory, and you will get the log right there.
    Both options assume, that the lib/ directory is installed as mentioned in my previous post.

    About 3 weeks ago, we got a new cabinet installed at the end of the street and this solved the usual congestion issues we were plagued with, even in the evenings! We even managed to hit the heady heights of 6.67mb d/l which, for our village in Scotland, is superb! Happy days!
    Last week, I noticed that it was being worked on again, and since they completed the work last Friday, my connection has been stuck at 2mb max. I reset the router and completed the usual stuff but it's still restricted at 2mb. I left it the last three days, and still no change. Run the following tests, with the results as follows.
    D/L (mbps): 1.91
    U/L (mbps): 0.37
    Ping (ms): 51 [this is also a vast improvement to what it was previously]
    Also ran the BTW Performance Test with the following:
     Download speed achieved during the test was - 1.9 Mbps
     For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 0.4 Mbps-2 Mbps.

    I've been connected on my 01651 line since 02 October 2013 and although some slowdown at peak times, has aways been stable with no disconnects. A bit unsure as to why things have now altered and every other part of our BT service has been fine.
    I'm a daily user of Xbox Live, Netflix and Sky On Demand, so this restriction, although not life changing, is considerably less than what I should be getting and (more importantly) paying for, on a non-Fixed speed service!
    Can you let me know if there's anything I can provide to get some assistance?
