Help ! Going crazy : stuck with leopard Setup Assistant

I've installed and used Leopard since its launch.
Experienced some minor problems : iCal stopped when trying to open a Task... Bin could not empty on securized mode.
Today, after the same problem, I had to force to reboot and now it's running to Mac OS X Setup Assistant again and again, as if it never got it.
What can I do ?
Thanks for your help.

I don't know if it's the first rule of website design, but people forget their passwords all the time. If you really want people to use your services, Microsoft, you should remove this ridiculous loop from your system.
The most commong problem in all these cases is the following:
A user signed up for Skype account "john.doe456" a few years ago using an email address [email protected]
Later the user linked their Microsoft account [email protected] to the Skype account
Now it's March 2015 and they try to reset their Skype account password and request a password reset using the [email protected] email.
Users will always be forwarded to the Microsoft account password recovery. To reset the Skype account password you need to request the password recovery to the [email protected] registered email address of the Skype account. Many users have forgotten what their Skype account registered email was because they haven't updated them for long. In this case you need to contact Skype CS and get your primary account email changed. The starting point for this process is to fill out the form for "I don't know my registered email address" here:

Try restarting the iPod by holding down the lock and home button together and then slide the power button to turn it off and then wait 10 seconds and start it up again. If it is not a reset issue then it may be a hardware issue. Is your iPod damaged or have you dropped it recently? If it is a hardware problem then you may not be able to fix it. If your iPod has multitasking options like the new iOS devices, close out the app and then try again, it should reset your device to letters instead of emojis.

  • Stuck in a Setup Assistant loop

Ok I have a problem hopefully someone can help.
I reinstalled leopard and reformatted my hard drive for a clean start. After I reinstalled leopard I did a software update, I can't remember what updates were need but several were updated including firmware, security etc. The updates installed but upon restart I had the spinning ball with the leopard background for 8 hours+ so I force powered down my MBP and upon restart the setup assistant appears, I choose language, country network etc and when its complete it goes right back to the beginning of the setup assistant where I am supposes to choose language and country. After I submit registration it just goes back to the beginning of the setup assistant and I cant get out of this.
Other details: I am using a different copy of leopard than originally installed I bought the leopard family pack and that is what I am using to reinstall not the original disc - I lost that one.
Hopefully someone can help I have a useless but pretty looking piece of laptop right .

  • Leopard Setup Assistant - Ability to Replay?

Following successful installation of Leopard, unfortunately I closed the "Setup Assistant" window which showed a funky preview thingy (showing the purple aurora lights etc) then presented me with some setup options to complete my applications setup (I guess) ... does anyone know how to get this screen to show again??
I tried re-installing 10.5 again - and successful again, but still no sign of this screen again.

Ah, right - thank you ... jumped too early on my response to the previous reply
Next issue is that I have to be an Administrator and since the upgrade all accounts seem to now be set as Standard ... but I think I've seen this in another discussion.
    Thanks for your help.

If anyone could help with the basics I would be most grateful. Looking for 40"-42" LCD HDTV 1080p.
First I have noticed the refresh rate of 60Hz and 120Hz on a lot of TV's but I ran across one today that read 600Hz.  Is that a misprint or something that is specific to a certain type of TV?
Also, how important is a brand name?  Lets say Sanyo, Visio, Samsung, Sharp ect.  I have read and heard that Sony and Panasonic are good brands.
Anyway, any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.  I hate spending this much money on something and not know any more about it that I do.
    Thanks,

If you saw a LCD with a 600hz refresh rate it was a misprint. Did you see this one LG 55"?Only TV's with a 600hz refresh rates are Plasmas. Common refresh rates for LCD's are 60, 120 and 240. What you get is personal preference but the higher refresh is mostly marketing gimmicks.

Brand names are very important if you want a quality display and one that will last. Your best manufactures for both LCD and Plasmas are Panasonic, LG, Samsung and Sharp. Sony is NOT a good brand. Their quality has seriously went into the toilet in the past several years.

  • Please help...stuck with compareTo when comparing objects in ListNodes

I'm writing a SortedLinkedList class that extends MyLinkedList that I wrote and I need to write a sort but i keep getting this error message when I try to compare two objects in the listnodes
    cannot resolve symbol method compareTo(java.lang.Object)
         Object a = get(x); //get returns an object at the listnode x(index)
         Object b = get(y);
    if(a.compareTo(b) >= 0) //Error message
    etc.....

If you want to sort the list nodes, you can make a
compareTo method for each node which casts its Object
to a Comparable and calls compareTo on the arg's (arg
is the other list node) Object.     would i put this in MySortedLinkedList class?
    public int compareTo(Object o)
              return this.compareTo((Object)o).this);
//this is the best i can come up with so far but it doesn't help me at all

  • HT4381 Help I'm Stuck with my Apple TV

Hi Anyone! I purchased an Apple TV to mainly be able to stream from my Iphone, it was recommended when I asked for assistance. Anyway I was told that I needed a HDMI cord, which I have and to connect the cord from the Apple TV to my TV. Well I do not have a port on my TV but I do have the port on my cable box that's connected to my TV. Once I connected everything I do not get a connection, I turned to every setting and still no connection. Do you think the problem is the connection set up because it's plugged to my cable box? Does this mean I need a new TV?

    Moe,
I don't think you can route through your cable box.  You can get an HDMI splitter that will plug into one HDMI port but allow two cables to plg into it, I have used one and it worked well.  You can also get an adapter for HDMI to another type of port but lose the HDMI HD.

  • Z Index, layering images, need help (going crazy!)

Need some help on layering images. As you can see, the "polaroid" has tape on it - I want that tape to overlap the menu bar.
The menu bar is a grapic (there is a slight gradient to it) and on top of it are the actual menu graphics.  If I remove the menu graphics, the photo overlaps fine.  But if I insert the menu graphics, they lie on top of the polaroid.  Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

  • Can't get past setup assistant after installing leopard...

i am having trouble getting past the setup assistant after installing leopard on my other computer which is a 1.25 ghz G4 desktop. Everything seems to be going fine then the setup assistant comes up and i go through the exercise of filling it out and at the end it says click on done and then you can use the computer. unfortunately it goes right back into the setup assistant like i had never gone there before. it is in some kind of loop. would it be wise to reinstall leopard? if so, does it know that it was installed already and rewrite over the first install? or is there something else i may try. i tried resetting the PRAM and some other things recommended but nothing seems to work. any help will be appreciated.
    thanks in advance...

    mr_magicman,
I can imagine how frustrating this must be for you. It sounds like you went for the (default) Upgrade option.
    Okay, how about trying this:
    1. With the *OS X 10.5 Install Disk 1* still in the bay, Restart your computer. Without access to menus, you'll have to use the power switch to turn it off. +[Alternatively, if you do have access to menus, select the Restart command (in the Apple menu) — always the preferred method.]+
    2. If you're using the power switch method, here, wait about 10 - 15 seconds then depress the power switch again for about 5 full seconds (or until you hear the computer come back to life). +[Alternatively, if you had selected the Restart command in Step 1, the computer will start up again on its own.]+ *Either way, as the computer starts up, press and keep pressing, the Mouse until the disk ejects.* By the way, if you're using a Mighty Mouse with a left and right option, press down on the left side only. Hopefully this will get you out of the loop caused by your Install DVD remaining in the drive.
Finally, to be fair to you, I must tell you that there's a more suitable Forum for your particular kind of problem, viz., *Installation and Setup* (http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1219) I recommend you check out the questions/answers in that Forum in case your question has already been asked and answered.
PS. If you do re-post your question in that Forum, don't forget to mention whether or not you internal hard disk has been backed up.
    GOOD LUCK!

  • Problem with Setup Assistant and New iMac

I just purchased a new imac intel (actually 2010 model from MacMall on closeout) and I want to transfer my files over from my old imac - 2004 G5 running 10.5.8
During the initial start up of the new imac I choose the option to transfer my information from another mac (using setup assistant).
I connect using firewire and start up the old mac in firewire mode (holding down T).  After the new mac calculates the files to tranfer I cannot chose the continue button - the button is greyed out.  In addition the remaining space available shows a negative (red number).   This also occurs if I choose to transfer from a time machine back up on an external drive.   Help.

You didn't mention what version of OS X is on the new system. I would strongly recommend starting over and using Pondini's
    Lion Setup Assistant tips
    or
    Snow Leopard Setup Assistant tips
depending on what the new system has loaded on it. If you have been using Time Machine or a bootable clone backup for the old system you can restore from that backup rather than having to mess with Target Disk mode.
If you still have difficulty call AppleCare, they're there to help on this type of issue. The number is in the owners manual.

  • Trapped in SETUP Assistant.

Greetings. Any help on the following:
    1. I open iTunes, which prompts me to update to new version. I accept!
    2. Software Updater opens; I uncheck the 10.5.2 update, but go ahead with the rest.
    3. The mac attempts to close down programs in anticipation of 'restart.'
    4. Firefox freezes on 'are you sure you want to close 2 tabs?' window.
    5. Eventually, I make stupid mistake to force machine to shut down (Force Quit did not work on Firefox).
    6. Upon restart, I am stuck in Setup Assistant.
    7. Going through the motions of SetUp Assistant brings me to... SETUP Assistant.
The login screen still recognizes my machine's name and my password, but I can't get past SetUp Assistant. Sadly, I haven't done any backups since I upgraded to Leopard in December, but fortunately, there's nothing of DIRE importance on the machine, just a big hassle if I have to rebuild everything manually. I'm scheduled into my Genius bar tomorrow night, but would love to have my laptop back in shape sooner than that.
Thanks in advance if anyone has any advice to share!

Hi! THIS might solve your problem. Tom

  • Will I still be able to use my software after using setup assistant even if I didn't get to deauthorize it in my previous (broken down) computer?

My 2009 imac broke down (suspected motherboard and power supply failure) and I am planning to remove it's hard drive placing it in an external hard drive enclosure and using this with either setup assistant or migration assistant in an effort to recuperate my old files and software. However I am afraid I won't be able to use my software because of license restrictions etc. Do I have something to be worried about?
    Thx

Probably not a problem. You didn't mention which software you were concerned about, but some of the ones that are the most fussy about licensing include those from Adobe and Microsoft. Do you have any of those?
Adobe explicitly states that you should deauthorize on the old computer before installing on a new one (or migrating to a new one). But any issues you might encounter really depend on which versions of the Adobe software you have. I have migrated over older versions of Photoshop and Photoshop Elements and they ran fine on the new computer, even with the old computer up and running at the same time. The newer ones might check to see if the same serial number is running on more than one computer and tell you to deauthorize one of them. But since you aren't actually running the software on the old computer now, this might be fine.
I recently migrated Adobe Photoshop CS4 from an older computer to a new one and it would not run on the new one until I completely uninstalled it there and then reinstalled from scratch. So you may need the install disks and serial numbers anyway.
With Microsoft Office (2011), the migration worked fine but it required re-entry of the serial numbers on the new computer. If you run MS-Office on both the old and new computers simultaneously, it may notice that and refuse to run both at the same time. Again, not a problem for you since your old computer is not operational.
In any instance, should you run into trouble, you can contact Microsoft or Adobe (or other companies for other software) and they will reset the licenses from their end so you can use the software on your new computer.
By the way, if you use iTunes, you can do something like that from the iTunes Store, where you deauthorize all computers in order to get the old one off the list of authorized computers.
