Hello,
I have successfully used Google Maps with my Veer 4G in the past. As of today, I open it I get a blank screen with an icon and a link labeled "Please tap here to update to the new Map app". When I click on the link I get a tiny, illegible web page that is not resizable. Google maps is a huge portion of the value of my Veer for me and the phone is practically broken for me without it. Does anyone have any information on what has happened and how to fix it?

You can either play with the ill-formated webpage like HP wants you to, or you can go directly to the app catalogue and download the new map app. Doing it the way HP wants you to works ok, if you just intuit the meaning of the tiny tiny browser screen.
The way you probably want to do it.
1) open your app catalogue
2) search for map apps.
3) download and install the app of your choice (Bing?)
The way HP wants you to do it:
1) on that tiny webpage that comes up when you click that link find the tiny field where you can specify your country (left pane)
2) enter in your cell phone number just below the country field (areacode+7digit no spaces, no additional symbols)
3) click the accept all this gibberish button (really tiny).
4) click submit at the bottom of the left pane.
5) wait for the link to be sent to your phone.
6) click the link and watch your phone's app catalogue open and go to the Bing Map app.
7) download and install the Bing Map app.

whoever put together this migration path is an idiot who didn't realize that 99.999% of the people that were going to link to that webpage were going to do it via ther webos phone via the googlemap link, which *doesn't* allow pinch/spread zooming

Helping Google find non-homepages

Hi all,
I know this question has been dealt with before in different ways, but I was wondering if someone could help me out with it given the following circumstances:
I’ve made a couple of sites in iWeb, hosted to Godaddy.
Google has no trouble finding my home pages. I google my site and voila, there it is.
However, I take it that because I use iWeb’s navigation bar, Google knows only about my homepage.
I have another site, not done with iWeb (made by pros), and every page on it is returned with a search of a relevant word. If I search for a topic on one of its subpages, for example, Google will return the URL of that subpage in its results. I’d like the same thing to occur with my iWeb sites, so all their pages are visible to search engines.
So here’s the thing. I’m not concerned about my iWeb homepages getting noticed by Google since that happens on its own (actually, other sites will link to my site when they know I’ve thrown something up). Also, I don’t want to turn off iWeb’s navigation bar. I think it looks great, and I’d rather not replace it.
So… is a sitemap what I need? If so, where do I start? What should be my strategy given that:
• I make my site in iWeb
• I like using iWeb's nav bar
• I use Fetch to FTP my site to Godaddy for hosting
• I’m not worried about Google finding my homepage
• I am worried about Google finding all the other pages
• Outside of making sites in iWeb and FTP’ing to Godaddy, I’m a noob.
Are there alternatives to doing a sitemap, or is that exactly what I need?

1) A text based navigation bar at the bottom of your page is a very good idea. The text you use to link to each page is important as Google will use it rank your website, so I suggest you link to your most important pages using consistent anchor text (anchor text is the clickable text that links to other pages).

Without an XML sitemap it is certainly possible to have all your pages indexed by search engines. XML Sitemaps were invented for websites built using FLASH, hard to index javascript (like iWeb sites), complex frames, forms etc... to help search engines find all content. I appreciate all the sitemap benefits you enumerate. In fact, I'm pretty much convinced and figure I'll build one eventually! However, to answer my original question directly and unambiguously, I take it from your response that:

Again, I believe I understand all the other benefits of sitemaps. But, as I understand it, if you include text links to your other pages, search engines will find them every bit as much as if you use a sitemap.
2) Your sitemap needs to be in your root directory (under certain circumstances it doesn't have to be, but generally this is the case). Sitemap Automator puts it there for you.
What if you have a hosting account with different sites in subfolders off of your root folder?
3) The trial version of Sitemap Automator limits the number of links you can include in your sitemap and does not allow you to notify all search engines about it.

I'm not sure what that means. Search engines know about my site even if I don't change it.
4) When you have a Google Webmaster Tools account you get a wealth of information about your website including;
a) reasons why certain pages may not be able to be indexed by search engines
b) The top search keywords that your website appears for AND the top searched keywords that send you traffic to your site (including recent trends)
c) Who links to your site and what anchor text they use (anchor text is important for search engines to help rank your website for certain keywords)
d) Lots more... I highly suggest you create a Google Webmaster Tools account because of all the interesting info you get

Help Google Chrome and IE won't load itunes downloader

Chrome and IE will not load itunes 11 downloader stating that Apples SSL is expired

Heres what appears to have worked for me. In Chrome on Downloader page, I back/right clicked on the unloaded frame then selected inspect element. From there I selected Audit. I clicked reload page and audit on load. Then Run. For a unknown reason the page loaded correctly that time and i was able to download Itunes 11

I need help disentangling gmail and Thunderbird

The article "Thunderbird and Gmail" would be very helpful if I were setting up my email from the beginning. but I set it up a long time ago and I need help straightening things out. The folders at the left hand side of the Thunderbird screen are very confusing: Can I send a screen shot of them? I will send it if you will tell me how. There's something called "All mail" and I have no idea what is supposed to be in that folder. Some times when I expect to receive an email I find it in "All mail" but it is not in the Inbox.
If I can somehow wipe everything clean and start over without losing all the information that's in my computer now I probably should do that.

The fact that URL links from within Adobe Reader always launch Internet Explorer instead of the default browser, say Firefox, seems be a common problem from within the Reader, not just within the Help (Google Adobe Reader default browser").

The solution I chose to make URL links in PDFs trigger my Firefox browser reliably was to dump Adobe Reader and install the faster and smaller Foxit Reader (http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/rd_intro.php). The only change you need to make inside Foxit is to tick the "Create links from URLs" tickbox under Edit | Preferences | General.

How to implement Google "Show more results" type image gallery

Hello all,
Need help with implementation of "Show more results" for an image gallery, similar to google images.
The requirement is to display 10 images at a time and on click of button show the next 10 images by ajax. I have a db with image names and folder that stores the images.
Need some pointers as I cannot get my head around this.

Expanding menu bar help

i have search for about 2-3hrs and cant figure out how to create a vertical expanding navigation bar like the one on www.louisvuitton.com on their main page there is a menu box on the right and when you put your mouse over it it expands allowing you to choose you country. i want to make this horizontal, not sure what this is called so i might have been searching for the wrong thing but any help in finding a tutorial would be great thanks

You will lose a lot of Google's ability to map your site unless you submit a special site map to the search engine (see mine under www.aloe-vera.org/public_.xml ).
To submit a sitemap to Google you need a google account (such as Gmail) and then go to: www.google.com/webmasters/tools to submit your sitemap. This will help to balance having a Flash menu.

Yosemite Google Calendar + iphone IOS 8.1.2

Have new computer 3 weeks ago, Yosemite. Set it up. Updated etc. First noticed the fan speed running very fast and hard. Check what I had running. Closed all the apps that were open. Had trouble closing ical; had to force quit. The tried re-opening. iCal would open and load, then crash. Checked activity monitor and iCal would be running at 100% and not even loading or allowing me to add a date etc. It was crashing but still using CPU.
Have tried (with Apple support) correcting the library, ical plist; reinstalling software; apple then replaced the new computer. Not a hardware problem as happening with my second new computer now also.
I got replacement computer, new 3 days ago and have now spent Spent 4.5 hours last night with apple support for the mac air AND THEN iPhone apple support. Apple remotely connected to the new computer, took stats and usage info while running ical with google calendars.
We determined on ne mac with Yosemite ical is working with iCloud.
ical is working with Google calendar and with Mavericks fine.
ical and Google calendar are NOT working with Yosemite and with new iOS for iPhone and heard iPad.
I had also updated my iPhone few days ago. Noticed the timezone had changed on the calendar appointments. After working with Apple support last night, suggesting restoring phone to earlier back up when it worked. I did a restore last night, but still have the version 8.1.2. Big issues. Can't turn off google calendar. it freezes completely (when trying to turn off calendar). Calendar is blank then crashes.
Need some help google please. Seriously need to know how to fix this. Have no way of working….
Please advise.

I am still having the same issue. I have tried Apple Support AGAIN. Still no resolution.
I cannot use my calendar on my Macbook Air OR my iPhone at all.
iCal just crashes!!! I have tried contacting Google, but they have not responded AT ALL.
Not very happy. Apple have at least spent time trying to sort this. Anyone got any answers?

Better search results with google

I already have my website listed in google's search in. However, non of the key words I have embeded will bring up with site. The only word search that will bring up the site is the actual name of the site without the "www" or".net"
How can I improve this so that people can more easily find the website when they are searching.

Google and site maps

Hi All,
I have had a bit of advice on google already, however I thought that I would open this up to the wider forum as I have checked through other posts and cannot seem to get an answer that will work for me.
I am needing to add a site map as I believe that this will help google 'trawl' my website and I also need to get my site verified on google, however I am having problems uploading the html code via cyber duck or file zilla to my website.
In advance I will say that I am not very technically minded and it has taken several months to get my site up and running to how it is at the moment, however I am proud of what I have achieved through working stuff out and learning the techniques on this site. I will not purchase any program that I do not need to and I thank you all so very much in advance for your time and patience.
In relation to SEO, is it worth me spending the money on someone else doing this with me not being so technically minded?

Help Please. Bootcamp installation error. Mac newbie

Hello.
I just bought a brand new 24" iMac about two weeks ago. Downloaded BootCamp beta today, updated all software and firmware. Installed bootcamp, installed Windows Media Center 2005 SP2. Before that I created a new 32gb partition to keep the FAT system the same. This is my first Mac, I love OS X, unfortunately I need to run ESRI GIS software which is only PC compatible. Anyway, Windows installs, I try ejecting the CD, and it would not ehect. I restarted the computer to go back to OS X, but the disc never ejected, and it reads off the installation disc. I can not boot OS X now. How can I get the disc out, without OS X? And/Or what should I do to safe the least amount of hassle. I installed this POS OS on its own partition. I am very windows and computer literate, but this one just seems to scratch my head. My nervous than anything, spent over $2700 said and done, and I don't feel like problems within two weeks already. Any help would be appreciated. Thank You

Smart idea: My advice is to install BootCamp (with fat partition/Vol) but use Parallels with that as its Win Drive.
*Virtual pc is an Emulator which is utterly different technology and with heavy overheads.*
Don't believe most of the negative stuff you'll read here about parallels - it's almost all wrong/caused by misunderstanding.
Pre-leopard (which i don't use) BootCamp is BETA. Don't trust it.
Use parallels and have it use the Windows Partition.
It's not emulation - in most case it's stable, megafast flexible and reliable.
It is 'Virtualisation - a technology around in Mainframes for years and the Virtual Machine approach is the way of the future (on most platforms):
one example : people have argued for VM Fusion (or BootCamp) over Parallells because 'Parallels only uses one processor and VM will use 2 - or 4.. and 'BootCamp is 'Native'....
Wrong.
VM will use 2 - but in doing so usually slows the Mac down unnecessarily - with Parallels, The VM gets one or more processor/cores... the OS X Stream usually gets its own one or more processors/cores...
Parallels IS 'Native'Intel.
*BootCamp (pre-Leopard) is BETA*. (=no support... and you'll get little when it isn't because BETA almost all your problems will be with "third party products" like Windoze or Windoze Apps doing truly stoopid things.. I doubt you can get much M$ support for running windoze under BootCamp or any of the VM solutions... not that you get much M$ support anyway

Parallels is usually faster than fusion VM and often faster than booting into windoze.
(Exceptions : fancy 3d grafix cards - just a driver issue - which is still an issue with the others anyway and is being upgraded all the time)
Otherwise, It's often even faster than equivalent 'Native Windoze' Boxen (no I don't really know why either ... .
Parallels and other VM products allow you to run multiple VMs: 95, 98,XP,Vista,Linux... at supa high speed and all in their own windows while OS X continues 'doing its stuff'!!
Amazing stuff: If you have any brains these days, you really only need to buy ONE PC: a good Intel Mac, and run the best set up & optimised VM product you can find, and whatever OSs you fancy!
For my money - ATM, that's a Mac with windoze partitions on drives and a top quality VM product like Parallels...
(A lot of 'non technical' ppl simply don't 'get' this stuff... wikipedia can help, google reviews, benchmarks etc.. - e.g. grab a fast Flash drive.. format as HFS+ and use from OS X => as fast as possible. Format as Windoze, use on/from Mac and it may be 10 times as slow, V/V and so on....)
With OS X, Parallels, correctly-formatted Win Drives, correctly setup and optimised you really have the best of all possible worlds. BUT: stay in the Mac world. DON'T use rubbishy windoze programs that were NOT designed to work in a Virtualised environment (MacDrive etc etc) or you will get probs (use TCP/IP Networking or Shared folders etc instead - not that you really need much of anything like MacDrive, anyway the Mac & VM can read and write all that...)
My ('post College') Kids all switched to Macs set up this way.
They only ever use BottCamp for some games.
They do have Parallels but rarely need to use any Windoze stuff anyway.. - oh and 'They are SO Cool" and "we love them.."
They'll never go back (sell yr M$oft shares short
