Have you alloted enough space for Boot Camp? Win7 needs at least 60 Gb for an adequate installation. If you burned an iso perhaps you need to do it again at 2x speed.

Flashing question mark, trying to reinstall Tiger but no volume found to install it too.
I was installing updates to this mid 2004 iBook I bought and upon restart I just got tr flashing question mark folder. I tired booting from the OS disc to install, but it tells me there is no volume to install the software too. WTh? It was just working fine 20 minutes ago. It sounds like the HHD engaged but the computer isnt seeing it. Is the hard drive gone or what?
Hello, it sounds like the hard drive has gone to me, the question mark icon you described would be Mac OS X not finding a volume to boot from. It does suggest a replacement hard drive is required, however I have G4 14" iBook that has a problem with a chip on the logic board. A common problem now with old used iBooks. The chip solder becomes departed from the board and eventually effects the iBook's ability to read the hard drive. I am not suggesting this is your fault here, but it's worth being aware of. I personally would replace the hard drive fist and with all luck it will resolve your problem.

had the same problem as others. So jokingly I thought lets see if it'll go in the little iBook? No problems, got it on the iBoook without a hitch.
What gives?
I rebuilt prefs on the G4 tried again but it stalls and says could not install please try again.
I had usb stuff plugged in the first time and read that i should unplug it so
I did tried to insall again and same thing as before.
My buddy says try using the external DVD burner from my other mac to install but i also read that this can screw up the firmware on that Drive.

Also once installed on the iBook, unless you got a family license you shouldn't install it on any other machine since it is only licensed for use with one computer.
Retail editions of Tiger are black with a white and gray X logo on the CD.
System specific editions are gray disks which mention a model number.
Only Firewire external DVD drives support booting Mac OS X installation disks, and at that, not all will since some need a firmware update to boot DVD disks.

Hi, I want to downgrade from OSX LEOPARD to OSX TIGER but I have a few questions regarding this. My iMac is originally from Sep 2007 it came preloaded with tiger. I have original install (2) tiger discs version 10.4.10. I want to know if it is safe and what are the necessary steps to do so. Also by downgrading im wondering if a lot of apps nowadays support tiger for example I have photoshop version 5 and 4 these are very important to me. 800 MHzMost of the time a perception of general slow performance is the result of installing third party junk alleged to speed up, "clean" or "optimize" your Mac, or to look for viruses that don't exist. Ideally you would know what you installed so you can uninstall it, but if you don't know or aren't sure there are techniques such as Safe Mode and creating a temporary user account to confirm that suspicion.
If you open Activity Monitor it may show a process, or processes, that occupy a lot of your system's time.
Slowness confined solely to web browser activity is often the result of an inexorable progress toward websites that demand ever more processor-intensive tasks. If your slow performance is strictly limited to web browsing, you might try disabling Flash by either uninstalling it, or use utilities such as ClickToFlash that allow you to control what Flash content gets loaded. Flash in itself is not inherently evil, but there is nothing to stop websites or the advertisers who pay for them from writing horrible Flash code that can do everything from hogging 100% of your CPU's time to causing random crashes. You can watch Activity Monitor as in the above to correlate these troublesome web pages with performance degradation.
You are correct; if your computer shipped with Tiger you may certainly revert to it. I forgot that Tiger was shipping on new Macs as recently as five years ago. To downgrade it would be necessary to completely erase your hard disk and boot with the Tiger installation DVD, followed by installing it anew. Such drastic measures are not necessary and you are unlikely to be satisfied with the results anyway.
Assuming your system is free of third party parasitic junk attached to OS X in an ill-conceived attempt to improve upon it, that your hard disk drive is sound and the boot volume has enough free space to work with, by far the best performance-enhancing improvement would be to add more memory. Buy as much as your computer can use and that you can afford. 2 GB is not that much any more.

You can try calling Apple support at 0800-761-0880 and explaining the situation to them. Perhaps there will be something they can do to help. Try asking to speak with a Customer Relations representative, though I don't know if they have them in Brazil.

Tiger to Snow Leopard possible Java architectures
My company is developing a Java application with a small native library in a Universal Binary. We want to be sure we test our native library on all possible architectures, but we're having a hard time determining what they are. We're supporting Mac 10.4 - 10.6, Java 1.5+.

I changed my LCD last day and now i noticed all my pictures on my phone are gone. I tried to restore the back that I got yesterday but it wont let me because its telling me there is not enough space on my phone!!! That's wierd because I didn't download any app or anything else since my last backup and on the other hand about 3000 pictures are gone, how come there is not enough space left! I also check my usage on my phone and it shows that i have about 7.0 GB pictures!!! BUT my photos is empty! I want my picture back on my phone any solution anyone?

Yes, I know this is a popular question, but every situation is different and I haven't seen a definitive answer after browsing the forums for a while.
I have the following hardware:

...and the following apps, none of which I can afford to upgrade:

...and probably a couple others I've forgotten.
I was given the retail box of 10.4, and the temptation is SO strong to install it. My two Macs were bought at times when I had an unusual amount of cash, so in the future, I think my limited budget means that the only new Macs I'll have will be Intel machines of er, let's just say an un-conventional nature. I also can't afford to upgrade the apps, although I do have Soundtrack Pro and DVD Studio Pro 3, although I still plan to use 1.5 most of the time. I may also be able to use Photoshop CS2, but sticking with 7 would be fine.
My biggest problem is with FCP4. I've heard that QT 7 really causes problems, not the least of which is no QT Export to MPEG-2. I of course have Compressor, but get the constant "unable to connect to background process" error, so I rely on QT Export to create .m2v files for DVDs. I guess it's possible that Compressor will magically work in Tiger, but I fear letting go of QT Export. I also dread paying for a new MPEG-2 Playback Component and/or QT Pro license.
I wish I could cross-post this into the FCP and DVDSPro forums, but hopefully enough people here will be able to tell me whether I'm better off not upgrading unless I can get new versions of the apps.
My application for the iMac is audio/video production, and even though it's done well up to now on the stock 256MB, I'll be upgrading the ram soon to the max of 768MB (that's the max without opening up the case, which I'm hesitant to do). I also would like to use the iBook for some field work, and given its 30GB hard drive, I don't see partitioning as an option. On the up side, the iBook does have the absolute maximum of 1.125GB of RAM.
I would of course use an external drive for content on both machines, but at least with the iMac there's an 80GB hard drive that can be partitioned and still have ample room. I currently have most of it assigned to Jaguar, and a 10GB partition for Panther. If I went that route again, the Panther partition would have to be larger than 10GB because most of the apps would be installed under Panther. I guess another issue is whether Tiger and Panther partitions would play nice. Right now I can launch applications that reside in the Panther partition even if I booted into Jaguar and vice-versa, but I wonder if that would confuse Tiger.
Anyway, thanks in advance for any advice.I apologize for the tone of my previous post, but it's so frustrating to post a question and have so many people "miss the barn" in their answers. Funnily enough, you actually have a very similar collection of machines to me... I have the 17" FP iMac, the iBook G4, and also a B&W G3 in the bedroom that my fiancee and I use for web surfing. I tried posting in the FCP and DVDSPro forums since those are the most important apps to run, but not much response.
What I ended up doing was creating two equal partitions on the iMac (~37GB each), one for Jaguar and one for Tiger. I actually like working in Jaguar for daily computing tasks, so I'll be installing my older apps there. My recording interface won't work under Jaguar, so my audio apps and all newer software (Soundtrack Pro, Adobe CS2, etc.) will be installed on the Tiger partition. I have no love for Panther, so I've stopped using it completely.
I'm sure switching between the partitions will be somewhat of a pain, but the option-key startup menu should make it easier. As I mentioned earlier, when I got Panther I only made a partition for it rather than upgrading, even though my apps would still run. I just didn't like the metallic look. Apple had started adding brushed aluminum in their hardware, but the Aqua interface seemed to go better with the older "iLamp". It's funny though, I really like the look of Tiger on it, maybe in part because they went back to a blue Apple Menu logo. It also seems quite snappy, although the first few boots on my iBook were painfully slow.
I haven't bothered to upgrade the OS on the B&W... can you really get it up to Tiger? It does have built-in Firewire, but I thought the minimum clock speed was something like 700MHz. It doesn't have tons of RAM either, so I'm probably better off not trying to upgrade. It seems to have a Rev. A motherboard, so it crashes once in a while, not very often though. Also, the Firewire is either disabled or fried, because I've tried an iBot webcam and it couldn't even see it. I'd hazard a guess that the reason the B&W might seem snappier is because the OS knows it's on an older machine and turns off a lot of CPU-draining eye candy that you may not notice (font smoothing, shadow effects, etc.) so it looks about the same but runs faster. Whenever I'd run OS 9 on my iMac it seemed like a screaming little machine compared to the previous Macs I had, but not so much with OS X.
Well, thanks for trying. I kind of figured this out myself, but I would have thought that someone here would have had the same experience as myself and could offer some advice. Seems most of the posts here are about upgrading to Leopard, so I guess I'm a bit behind the curve. For now, it's kind of comforting that I can't (officially) go beyond 10.4.11, since it makes the decision for me. Of course once an app comes along that only runs under Leopard, that sick feeling of being obsolete will probably come back. -
Said it all above. It tells me I have the latest version in the help tab under About Firefox. I have upgrade like 4 times now I even unistalled firefox and reinstaled the latest version But no change It still says i am out of date. like I said above on the addon pages I cant get what i want as it says I still have version 3.6 Help please I love firefox and hate IE but it works way better at the moment
