using Apple Support Communities username & password can i use same itunes ID & password?

I will do it for you.   I can't say they will take any action, they operate in their own way, but if they feel there may be a threat to your security they will normally take it seriously.   My guess is they would eMail their actions to you, though not to me of course.
    I hope this will help.
Okay; I've now reported the thread.

  • Here's what changed in the 'Apple Support Communities Use Agreement'

The terms for this website were revised 24 April 2014; they were previously revised 7 May 2013; they were previously revised 6 April 2011.
If you'd like to know exactly what changed, see this 'diff', which shows exactly what changed.
Basically, Apple just added this (as points 12 and 13 to the 'General' section :
If you provide any ideas, suggestions, or recommendations on this site regarding Apple’s products, technologies or services (“Feedback”), Apple may use such Feedback and incorporate it in Apple products, technologies, and services without paying royalties and without any other obligations or restrictions.
For questions or problems regarding your Apple Support Communities account, please post a question in the Using Apple Support Communities forum, or email [email protected]
For all versions, see Apple Support Communities Use Agreement
    Helpful?

Thanks; I may be wrong of course, but I thought para. 12 was there all along and only 13 was added (which, FWIW, is an excellent idea in my humble opinion). Also, the ToU are available by clicking on the link at the bottom of this page here.

  • How can I change my Apple Support Communities Name?

How can I change my Apple Support Communities Name? I want to change it because I made it a long time ago and want a different name. I want to start using Apple Support Communities a lot more and start helping people, But I want a different name.

It is possible he was incorrect.
    > When you signed up you were not given the opportunity to create an alias? I find that hard to believe given the number of people who have joined since that have there own alias. Apple assigned xdcdx to you?
Yes, back on 2007 I chose xdcdx.
Forward to 2011: I change the email address of my Apple ID to my current email address.
I login to Apple Support Communities (which I had not logged in to since 2007) and to my surprise I see this nickname that I almost didn't remember using here.
For me, it's irrational that I am able to change the main email address of my Apple ID (is there any piece of information more important than that?), but not this little username on this subpar forum system (subpar because of the web design/engineering, I don't mean to offend all the people here which are always quite helpful).
I upgrade to iCloud, and my email address gets hardcoded to my Apple ID. That's good, because I want this email address. In that case, they make sure to warn you that you had to chose an email address as an Apple ID for iCloud. That was not the case in this forums.
    > In the link that you provided Tuttle did a better job than I did as to the difficulty factor. Not sure why you were linking it.

    > You don't have to move to a new company to have new software or a new system.

    > How many million participants does StackOverflow have? Size matters.
How many million participants have these forums?
At least you do not seem to disagree with me that these forum are subpar compared to the usual Apple perfectionism level (see iCloud nice web user interface, for another fine example). This thing still looks like a forum from 2007.
    > Yes on an extremely limited basis Apple has made the change for longtime users (only two that I know of) with one of those a request for security reasons. That does not mean it is easy.
I still am not convinced that it is technically that difficult. I think it just a policy on part of Apple to avoid banal username change requests.
In part, I am not more active in this forums because I do not want my words to be associated to this nickname, becayse it is used on internet by tons of other people for other stuff, as a Google result will show.
Anyway, thanks for your words. I'll keep looking from time to time for the username change feature, because I do want to contribute to these forums.

  • Russian Apple Support Communities

Sorry. My english is not good. I'm russian. We want work with Apple Support Communities. And we want use russian. Is it a possible?
Our technical support will be use russian and our users will be use russian. We need only place for Russian Apple Support Communities here.

    Check http://www.apple.com/usergroups/
You might find a community already exists that is independent of Apple.  There is only one country based Apple Support Communities run by Apple, and that's in the U.S. It is however, welcome to people who do not speak English, though you may find responses are not as frequently given if you don't post in English, responses typically do come.  Try to use http://translate.google.com and state your native language, and someone will try to help you if there is something that normally can be helped with.

  • Apple Support Communities Tools

Before I begin, this is not a feature suggestion, although, depending on the answer, it could become one.
So, I like to help out here at Apple Support Communites. Lets me help others with problems I can solve, and helps me learn solutions to other problems for future refrence.   The only problem I have at this point is finding posts I can help with...  Finding posts is sometimes a shot in the dark searching through communities, my "Your view" section containing the community activity is very slow loading, and it does not show "live" updates. Only what the environment was like at the time of refresh.  So my question for the more experienced here, like Kappy or Linc_Davis is this: Are there tools on this site, or possibly OS X Dashboard tools that make finding and following posts easier, or is this just all we have?

One effective way of following topics and posts in particular communities (in a single window!) is via RSS feed. Feeds are constantly updated with new posts and topics, and can be used with any or all of the communities you're interested in. You'll need an RSS reader. Here are a few suggestions:
    http://lifehacker.com/5806166/the-best-news-reader-application-for-mac
RSS feed links for each community are located at the bottom of each community's front page.
Apple also offers feeds for many categories of interest, from iTunes charts to new Knowledge Base articles to press releases.
    http://www.apple.com/rss/
(P.S., Pretty sure Linc Davis also uses RSS feeds to follow his interests here.)
    Good luck!

  • Are there admins on Apple Support Communities?

Hey I was just wondering this because maybe in a few years I would like to be an admin for this forum.

This is a user to user community.  If you would like to be an admin, post your inquirey in the Using Apple Support Communities forum area.  It's possible a Community Host may see your post and reply.

  • Apple Support Communities Governance Policies - Pointer Please

Hi - can anyone provide a link to the governance policies for Apple Support Communities? Yes, I mean the site we're on now: https://discussions.apple.com/
    Many thanks.

    - I believe https://discussions.apple.com/ is an Apple Inc. property.
    You are correct.
C: can you provide a pointer or any other evidence?
Only the fact that it is part of Apple's web site. That's good enough for me. Do you have any reason to believe it is not?
C: Fair enough. How are Communities defined? What constitutes a new and valid discussion, or thread? Who determines the acceptability of specific posts? (Disclosure: I've had comments booted from the forum before.) If someone were to be removed from the forum (and I'm not planning on it), what are the criteria, who would make the assessments, and what are the possible outcomes?
Apple groups the communities according to their products, for reasons only they know. Maybe users find it convenient? A new thread is whatever is submitted by a user, subject to review by the forum hosts. If they find that the thread goes against the ToU they may remove it or edit it. Actually according to the ToU they can do anything they want. Our only recourse if we don't like it is to go elsewhere. Some users do so. Others threaten to do so (sometimes daily) yet are still here. Fortunately there are enough of us around to make this a useful community. I have both asked and answered questions here and I find both satisfying. I've even answered some incorrectly and been told so in no uncertain terms. I learned something. I have even had a post or two removed. Each time I was sent an email from the Apple Support Communities staff detailing why it was removed. They seem to be very forgiving as long as we try to keep within the guidelines given. People who try to be annoying (spammers, flamers, etc) don't last long. I've reported some and never seen their posts again.
C: How do you know this? Is the moderation of this forum outsourced? Regardless, who is this person and what is their outlook on a forum that constitutes considerable intellectual content? How are contributions valued?
I don't know all of it for sure. I suppose that Apple might outsource the communities but even if they do the responsibility lies with Apple. I have no idea what the real names of the hosts are but they have purple Apple badges when they do post in the forums. They do so rarely but it does happen. This particular forum ("Using Apple Support Communities") is the one I have most often seen them appear in. I'm not sure how to answer the last two questions here. The contributions to these forums are valued by the users themselves. I would guess that Apple probably keeps an eye on technical developments here, but have no way of knowing that for sure.
Yes! Every time I get another one of those little dots, Apple doubles my salary. It also triples my salary.
C: then let me in on the action, OK?
I'd guess that Link Davis is making a joke here. Double (and triple) of his Apple salary is still $0.00.

  • I signed up for Apple ID and Apple Support Communities separately. Can I merge the two accounts?

I signed up for an "Apple ID" and an "Apple Support Communities username" separately using the same e-mail address.  Is there any way to merge the two accounts?
I signed up for "Apple Support Communities" several years ago to get help with Apple products. I then signed up for an "Apple ID" later on to buy stuff at the iTunes Store.
I was trying to access "Apple Support Communities" using my Apple ID and I get prompted to choose a username. But when I type my current username, it says the username is already taken. Alternatively, if I try to choose a new username to go along with my Apple ID, I get a message saying that there is a username already assigned to my e-mail address.
For some reason, "Apple Support Communities" is not intuitively syncing the two accounts together despite the fact that they are linked to the same e-mail address.
I don't want to cancel either of these accounts since I have activities using one/the other that I do want to preserve.
Can anyone help me merge these two accounts together?
    Thanks.

I will do it for you.   I can't say they will take any action, they operate in their own way, but if they feel there may be a threat to your security they will normally take it seriously.   My guess is they would eMail their actions to you, though not to me of course.
    I hope this will help.
Okay; I've now reported the thread.

  • Apple Support Communities Terms of Use

    Hello All,
I have been using the Apple forums for many years now and in all those years I have never witnessed the degree of flaming, trolling, name calling that I have seen in many of the post here in the FCPX forum.
To be a member on the Apple forums (which include the FCPX forum) you had to agree with the "Apple Support Communities Terms of Use" which places you in a legal and binding agreement.
There are several parts of the agreement but here is the portion that is most relevant:
    Submissions
Stay on topic. Apple Support Communities is here to help people use Apple products and technologies more effectively. Unless otherwise noted, do not add Submissions about nontechnical topics, including:
Speculations or rumors about unannounced products.
Discussions of Apple policies or procedures or speculation on Apple decisions.
Be polite. Everyone should feel comfortable reading Submissions and participating in discussions. Apple will not tolerate flames or other inappropriate statements, material, or links. Most often, a "flame" is simply a statement that is taunting and thus arbitrarily inflammatory. However, this also includes those which are libelous, defamatory, indecent, harmful, harassing, intimidating, threatening, hateful, objectionable, discriminatory, abusive, vulgar, obscene, pornographic, sexually explicit, or offensive in a sexual, racial, cultural, or ethnic context.
Post constructive comments and questions. Unless otherwise noted, your Submission should either be a technical support question or a technical support answer. Constructive feedback about product features is welcome as well. If your Submission contains the phrase “I’m sorry for the rant, but…” you are likely in violation of this policy.
This is just a portion of the terms of use.
So if you have posted something and feel that another forum member is doing any of the above items to you, you can go to the bottom of their post and report their post as "Abuse"  These get read and get noticed.
These forums are for people who have questions about software or hardware and how to use them.
    Mike

  • I created an Apple ID using my ISP Email when I registered at the Store/Apple Support Communities/iTunes/Face Time and it does not work in iChat. Why Not ?

    Question:-
I created an Apple ID using my ISP Email when I registered at the Store/Apple Support Communities/iTunes/Face Time or other portal and it does not work in iChat. Why Not ?
    Answer:-
For a Name to work in iChat it has to be an Valid AIM screen Name.
Only Apple IDs from the @mac.com ending names registered here  and the Mobileme (@Me.com ending) names are Valid with the AIM service as well as being Apple IDs
(I am still working on info about registering with iCloud at the moment but if this does give you an @Me.com email it may well be a valid AIM name as well)
    NOTES:-
The @mac.com page works by linking an external (Non Apple) email with a @mac.com name.
This External Email cannot be one linked to an Existing Apple ID (you have to use a second email or register at AIM )
The options at AIM are to use your existing email or create new name and link the existing only for Password recovery
MobileMe (@me.com ending names) were valid Emails addresses, Apple IDs AND a Valid AIM Screen Name
@mac.com names look like emails but are only Apple IDs and iChat/AIM Valid Screen Names.
The AIM registration page seems to be pushing you to register [email protected] This is relatively new and I have not followed through the pages to find out if it a valid AIM email (Previously you could register a name without an @whatever.com suffix)

    Question:-
So I have my current [email protected] email in iChat as I thought as I had linked that to an Apple ID it was a Valid iChat Name.  It keeps coming up with a UserName or Password Invalid message.  What do I do next ?
    Answer:-
    Open iChat
Go to the Menu under the iChat name in the Menu Bar and then Preferences and then Accounts in the new window.
Commonly written as iChat > Preferences > Accounts as directions/actions to take.
If it displays with a Yellow running name in the list you have a choice.
Either register it at AIM (I would use a different password to the ISP Login) and then change the password only in iChat  (It may take you to confirm any Confirmation email from AIM first) in iChat > Preferences > Accounts
Or you register a new Name at AIM (Or at @mac.com) and enter that (details below)
If you have a Blue Globe name  (@mac.com) that will not Login the chances are that it the password that is the issue.
Apple lets you create longer passwords than can be used with the AIM Servers.
Change the Password at iForgot to no more than 16 characters.
Then change the password in iChat as details above.
Adding a new Account/Screen Name in iChat (that is valid with the AIM servers)
    Open iChat if not launched.
Go to iChat Menu > Preferences > Accounts
Click the Add ( + )  Button at the bottom of the list.
Choose in the top item drop down either @Mac.com or AIM depending on what you registered
Add the name (with @mac.com the software will add the @mac.com bit)
Add in the password.  (If you don't add it now iChat will ask you each time you open it)
    Click Done.
The Buddy List should open (New Window)
The Accounts part of the Preferences should now have the new name and you should be looking at the details.
You can add something in the Description line which will then title the Buddy List (Useful when you have two or more names) and make it show up as that in the iChat Menu > Accounts and the Window Menu of iChat when logged in.
You can then highlight any other Account/Screen Name you don't want to use and use the Minus ( - ) Button to delete it.

  • What is the use of points earned in apple support communities??

what is the use of points earned in apple support communities??

    mende1      Valmojado, Toledo, Spain
This solved my questionRe: How the heck do you get points on your apple support communities account?
Jul 12, 2013 10:20 PM (in response to BMPU)
To get points, you have to answer questions. If the user that created the post tested your solution and it worked, he/she (may) give you a "This solved my question". As you can see in the right part of this page, a solved question adds 10 points to your account. If you helped solve the problem, you receive 5 points. On a single thread, the original poster can only give 1 "This solved my question" and 2 "This helped me", so you can receive a total of 20 points.
With these points, there are levels that you can see in this page > https://discussions.apple.com/static/apple/tutorial/reputation.html When you level up, you receive privileges like report posts, access to Community Calls... The most important level respecting to privileges is the level 6, that gives you access to a special forum called "The Lounge" (where you can talk about anything you want, complain about an user or report problems with the forum), and you also receive gifts from Apple and other privileges
