Help! Had to do System Recovery & Now Files are all screwed up!
3 days ago my computer got a Virus & deleted almost everything off my computer. I had to do a System Recovery to Recover my files. I have a 80GB Video Ipod. I had my Itunes Library Very organized the way I wanted it. Now when I go to my Library, my Music is still there but all the Song Names & Artist Names.. etc.. are all screwed up. My Ipod has my Music files the way i Want them to be organized. How do i Transfer my Files From My Ipod to My Itunes Library without it syncing & adding the Unorganized files to my ipod?

try playing one of the purchases in itunes for a few seconds. do you get asked to authorise the PC? if so, and if you do, will the purchases transfer to the ipod afterwards?

I had to do a system recovery on my computer and unfortunately have lost my intall disk for my ipod. Now, itunes will allow me to link my ipod to download songs, but some of my purchases, it will not recognize. Is there a way to download the softward for the Ipod video so that I can add in the serial number of it, etc so it knows that my ipod is the one that should be linked? Hope this makes sense since I am not the most technologically savvy.

My midi files are all screwed up....
help.....i have about 40 gigs of loops that i use all of the time.....many of those are midi loops that when you drag into garage band...they show up as midi tracks instead of audio files. (i can actually see the little square midi notes) the problem with that is that it all sounds like an electric piano. whether i'm using a drum loop, string loop, synth loop or whatever....if it's midi...it's an electric piano. even the previously saved songs i've tracked...if there's a midi track in it....when garage band loads the song....the midi is electric piano and i didn't use an electric piano sound. somehow it doesn't know where to find the midi files.....and it's defaulting to a piano.
any ideas?

dbYa, there's a way that can solve your problem.
1.) You create a audio (real instrument) track.
2.) Drag your MIDI loops to the real instrument track.
The midi will become real instrument.

My computer kept shutting down on its own I had to do system recovery and lost everything on my computer. I reloaded the Itunes software and of course all my music is now gone. It took me forever to have my music on itunes just like I wanted and most of my music was from CD's I own. How can I just import all the music from my Iphone into Itunes. I don't want to loose it from my phone also and I can't do it from Itunes because I did not buy music directly from itunes.
Shouldnt matter if you didnt buy the songs directly from itunes or not. You will just have to reload everything back to your computer from the cds. It impossible with the iphone to get them off and back into the computer. Its possible with an ipod if every media file was transfered from your computer to the ipod. Even if you downloaded illegally is still possible to reload back into itunes.
I suggest buying or borrowing a large hard drive. I havent come across a problem with taking your previousely purchased cds and not being able to load them back into the computer because of itunes. It is tediouse but there no restrictions when you sync back up. -

Sounds very relevant.
Do you have access to another computer with Numbers installed?
If so, do your files open properly on that computer?
If so, then the problem is your computer itself, which is best posted in a different forum. -
Hit something when editing presentation and now slides are all reduced in size and not filling screen. Preferences, scale to fit doesn't work. What did I do?

I have always edited photos right from my desktop and now they are all opening in preview. How do I change it back? Thanks!
They open in Preview by default.
However, if you open Picture Folder in Preview, navigate to any photo ( without opening it ) then right click on the photo and select Get Info from the dropdown menu.
About 2/3rds' of the way down on the Get Info tab you'll see a Marker ' Open WIth '. Enter whichever editing program you're using.
Whenever you open a photo from whatever it's location it will open in the chosen editing program.

IT tunes music - some, a lot, of songs stop playing half way through. the files are all ok and complete? ive tried re - downloading / updating but no joy? can anyone help its most annoying
Yes, in theory re-converting would lessen the quality further. However, I have heard people claim (unsubstantiated) that if you are encoding with the same encoder at the same bit rate, then since it will use the same algorthymn, it won't really change the file. I have absolutely no idea if that is true or not.
But... I figure some slight loss in quality re-encoding is still better quality than a song that only plays half way and then stops, right? I suppose you could always tag those files in the comment section with something like "Re-Encoded" and then later if you gain access to your old CDs, you can then make a Smart Playlist to gather those songs and then re-rip them again from your CDs.

After iOS 5 upgrade my "artists" are all screwed up on my iPhone but are fine on my iTunes. ANY SOLUTIONS?? HELP!!
I had a similar problem to you that I have since solved.
At first only some albums/songs were missing artwork but they all showed up fine in itunes. I went into itunes and did the view where the album art is displayed next to the album in a list, middle option for viewing. I found that on several 1-2 songs did not have the artwork attached and so that was the cause of it not showing up on my iphone. However after I got all that solved I found that the artworks were all messed up. Much like you described many songs had the complete wrong artwork and some songs on the same album had different artworks or the same artwork showed up on multiple albums.
I could only come up with resyncing my iphone to solve it. I only use one playlist for my iphone so that I can sort of do manual management and only have to deal with one playlist. So I unchecked the playlist and did a sync to clear off all the audio. Then I rechecked the playlist and did a sync to reload everything and after that was done everything appeared correctly.
I didn't notice if this was affecting any of my purchased albums, I don't have that many so I didn't think about it but affected a lot of them. I hope this helps in some way and that you can get it working again. -
I cant believe Apple has discontinued the Classic without telling anyone - I need a new one and now they are all sold out!!!! Its crazy!! I have over 100Gb of music, in car, everywhere! And now when mine finally stops working (its on its last legs), I cant replace it as they don't do anything with the same capacity!! They have invented a great gadget and then stopped it! Usual big company mentality - oh well, time to start researching MP3 - no more Apple for me.....grrrrr

Wait. As per the suggestion in my previous post. There is after all, already an iPhone with 128GB capacity. Technically therefore, that would suggest that it is possible to produce a replacement for the Classic. But since I have no inside knowledge of anything Apple are planning, don't quote me on that!
Work on the basis that since your iPod is only "on its last legs" rather than "not working at all", it still has a useful purpose. Maybe by the time it does stop working, suggestion 1 will have come to pass.
I have no practical suggestion for avoiding a touch screen, it's the modern way!
Of course, if all else fails, and you end up with an iPod that has less capacity than your Library, you could resort to using Smart Playlists to manage your iPod, by using them to add and remove songs (for example, ones recently played that you don't want to hear for a while) and thereby keeping the songs on the iPod within its capacity. If that interests you, please ask and I'll explain it in more detail. -
I've just installed mountain lion and my files are all out of their previous folders. Can I set them back or do I need to manually put them back in order??

Thanks for the response. So, after the computer did it's restart thing after installing I went into finder where I usually have everything come up including my Macintosh HD folder and all it's folders and files.. Anyway it was this that hadn't come up and all the files were listed under All My Files and out of all their folders. I totally switched the computer off after posted the problem and now having switched it back on I see that it's all there and in it's proper files. -
