HELP---hardware issue, sounds like something is loose

Ok so I just got my ipod video in the mail today...I was pretty excited...then as I was taking a walk I moved it and it sounded and felt like something is loose inside, not something small either. And I kept shaking it and it doesnt happen every time but every so often it feels like something moves inside...does anyone have a clue why this would happen and what it might be?????
Im also OCD with things like this but...the screen also seems to have two tiny holes, like when the videos play theres little spots where it doesnt show up but thats probably common...I mean they are very very small but like I said, Im OCD...its the first problem Im more worried about....

Yes, there is much more sound from the harddisc operation in the 5g iPod than on the on the previous models. Should be no need to send it back. for a new one.

  • IPhone 4s sounds like something is loose when it vibrates?

Ok well I have the iPhone 4s. When it vibrates, I can hear some buzzing noise that sounds like something is loose. When I put pressure on the bottom right corner of the phone, it doesn't make the buzzing noise. I've read a few things online about other people having the same problem. I guess it's due to a new vibration system? I dunno. It's not the worst possible defect. The buzzing isn't too loud, but it is annoying and obnoxious. Anyone else having this issue?

Same problem here. I wish there was a way to merge the similar posts about the 4S rattle problem so Apple can see that it is an issue. So far I've dealt with 4 Apple employees for this issue. The first, an in-store Genius, told me that since his phone also has the rattle it must be normal. The second was phone support. She told me that I was the first person to bring this issue to her attention and it definitely isn't right. She suggested I go to my local Apple store and ask for a replacement. I did, so now my third Apple person was a Genius. He again told me that even though he could hear the problem it sounded normal to him. I called Apple support again (employee number 4). Again they said that I was the first person to call with the problem. She started to suggest a restore but stopped herself cause I think she realized how dumb that was about to sound. In the end she basically said to deal with it and call back if it gets worse.
Awesome job on this one Apple. Please officially acknowledge the problem so your employees can get on the same page.

Under warranty? Take it to the Bar for assessment.

Definitlely have it looked at. That could be a hardware deffect on the maker(apple) so there could be a definite replacement option.

Make Genius reservation and take iPhone to Apple Store. The Genius will help you, and resolve the problem.

  • My iPhone 5 have sounds like something inside are moving when I shaking it. Friends got replace a new iPhone at NZ, how about AU?

When I shake my iPhone or walking with it, I can hear that the iPhone are sounds like something or parts inside the phone are moving, or maybe not on the fixed position at all.
I did the research on Internet, and meet a friend in NZ who had same problem at there, then apple replace a new iPhone 5to him during the sounds.
How can I know my iPhone 5 are broken or just normal?

    1) ensure iTunes is authorized for your iTunes store account(s)
    2) connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
    3) sync the device
iTunes will wipe the iPhone but, since you transferred your purchases in the previous step, your content will be in your library and you can re-populate the iPhone with it.
above works for purchases from the iTunes store. for everything else, check out this post by Zevoneer.

  • So my MacBook pro, after I turn it off from "sleep mode" for over an hour....will make a cracking sound for a little while when I turn it back on. It sounds like something is burning internally or something. Help

I need to know why it's doing this, thanks

    Hi
I dont know why the first message appeared but usually this message is shown when the HDD recovery or Recovery disk would be started.
Do you have some recovery disk in the CD/DVD drive?
Check this otherwise I have no explanation for that
Maybe you should backup the data and should recover the notebook again
    Would be worth a try

You willl do better in the forum for MBP (this is not). I doubt there is room for anything to be loose.

  • Sounds like somthings loose when it vibrates

i have just brought an iphone 4s and when it vibrates it sounds like something is loose. tried taking it back and they are now saying its water damaged and wont refund me and help with this problem would be much apreciated

I believe you're referring to this thread: http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1541784
I do believe the rattle is coming from the autofocus system. If you look at the lens itself while it is focusing, you can see that the part actually moves. That being said, I assume that this part also moves when the device is shaken or put down.

  • Sounds like maybe my fan is rubbing against something...

When I tilt the screen up and the fan is going it sounds like something that is spinning gets rubbed up against. This only happens when the fan is going, so I figure it's that. Any clue as to whether this is a real issue to be concerned about?
Also concerning fans... do they get dirty and clogged like some fans in larger computers do? Is there some sort of maintenance that should be done inside. I can't imagine it's a good idea to go opening things up, but thought I should check.
Thanks in advance for all your help gang. I just reset my PRAM, turned on my Activity Monitor and ran some periodic stuff in Terminal per your suggestions and the long flying jet-plane just landed so that's a good sign!!!

    Hi Chris,
Any clue as to whether this is a real issue to be concerned about?
I would be concerned if it were my machine, concerned enough to investigate further by opening the keyboard and/or bottom of the PB to see if I could positively confirm that the fan was rubbing, and if so, on what. And if it was rubbing, I'd fix it or have it fixed.
Fans are there to cool off the internal components, and a rubbing fan is not going to spin as fast/cool as well, and over time is likely to burn out, at which time you may well have an overheating issue. If the fan happens to be rubbing on a wire (very possible), and eventually wears through the insulation on the wire and/or the wire itself, even more issues.
Yes, I'd be concerned if my fan was rubbing on something.
Also concerning fans... do they get dirty and clogged like some fans in larger computers do?
Very much depends on the environment the PB is used in and how often it's used there. I remember one post quite some time ago talking about a nearly golf-ball sized hair/dust ball inside a PB. I still find that hard to believe, but that's what they said. Others have posted about a rather heavy layer of dust coating their fan/s which affected the spin rate; cleaning restored normal operation (to get an idea, take a look at a ceiling fan which gets used daily and hasn't been cleaned in a few years; not good).
Is there some sort of maintenance that should be done inside. I can't imagine it's a good idea to go opening things up, but thought I should check.
Shut down, remove batt and power adapter, open keyboard and bottom of PB, and use common sense. I'd probably use a Q-Tip slightly moistened with rubbing alcohol.
I don't know which PB you have. This is why it's always a good idea to list it; a DVI could be a 667, 800, 867, or 1GHz. The 867 and 1GHz have two fans, while the 667 and below have only one. I don't remember off-hand about the 800.
All TiBooks have a CPU fan centered at rear of PB. The later models also have a power supply fan at the right rear corner.
I just reset my PRAM, turned on my Activity Monitor and ran some periodic stuff in Termin
    Also do a PMU Reset.

  • Sounds like a jet airplane!

Okay, I started having issues with my Dual G5, (lastest available updates) about 1 month ago. We have since then replaced it with a new iMac, but I would still really like to keep the box as a back-up or even turn it into a server.
Every once in a while it will just "lock-up", mouse doesn't move, no beachball, no nothing. after about 2-3 minutes the fans kick on extra hard and fast and this thing sounds as if it's getting ready to break the earth's atmosphere, lol
I have no idea where to even look for a problem. I have pulled all the drives and checked them in my Voyager "toaster" drive and they all work fine, and the main drive from the G5 is even bootable and works great, so i'm assumming it's something to do with the G5's hardware.
Is this something that Apple would even fix, (and I don't mean for free), but will they still work on non intel G5's? is it worth taking to apple or does it sound like something I could fix or is there a 3rd party repair place anyone would suggest?
added: Sometimes upon staring up I will see the HD symbol with a line through it, I'll do a hard power down and then restart and it sees the drive just fine. I also tested by removing those drives and putting in cloned drives, it at times gave the same thing, yet the removed drives in another machine work fine, so I'm really thinking this is hardware.

The original Apple Pro mouse cable frays in the chord just as it exits the mouse, over time, and shorts out causing symptoms similar to yours. You can't see the fray by looking at it thru the exterior covering. This can happen to third party mice over time too.
Mine did it. I plugged it into a different port, so the chord exited the mouse in a different direction, and had very few freezes after that. Once I got over my frugality (cheapness!) I bought a new one. Eventually it got to where I couldn't even work for more then a few minutes without a freeze.
So, try a known good mouse to see if that's the problem. Perhaps borrow one from a friend so you don't purchase something you don't need.
Don Archibald, a Level 5 here, said the USB ports on the keyboard (for you desktop users) are underpowered and can cause this problem also if the mouse is plugged in there. This can even fry the keyboard sometimes (happened to him). Try plugging your mouse into a port on your monitor or tower.
    More in this Apple doc.

That's quite normal. It's a fail safe, when your OS isn't working, to keep your Mac cool as it has no idea if you Mac is overheating or not.
and the main drive from the G5 is even bootable and works great
    In another Mac?
, so i'm assumming it's something to do with the G5's hardware.
If you think that try the following....
I would try running the extended version of your Apple Hardware Test.
It's not perfect but may flag something.

Yes, I think Apple repair still works on them, if not a third party shop will. But, let's see if we can get you going.
added: Sometimes upon staring up I will see the HD symbol with a line through it,
That makes me wonder, have you checked your drives health using S.M.A.R.T. status in Disk Utility (located in your utilities folder on your drive)?
If your drive doesn't stay running long enough,
Try using Disk Utility to do a Disk Repair, as shown in this link, while booted up on your install disk. Then check its S.M.A.R.T. status there.
You could have some directory corruption. Let us know what errors Disk Utility reports and if DU was able to repair them. Disk Utility's Disk Repair is not perfect and may not find or repair all directory issues. A stronger utility may be required to finish the job.
    After that Repair Permissions.
No need to report Permissions errors....we all get them.
I also tested by removing those drives and putting in cloned drives, it at times gave the same thing,
Are those clones of your G5 from before you had this trouble?
yet the removed drives in another machine work fine, so I'm really thinking this is hardware.
What Mac are you testing them on?
Also, have you ever replaced the PRAM battery on this G5?

  • Conversation sounds like under water (bubbling) iphone 3g

Yesterday on about 25% the calls I made or received on my iphone 3g, the person who answered sounded like they were underwater. What I mean is that their voice was unintelligible, and sounded like something buubling up from under water. If you are old enough to remember what the underwater people sounded like on 'Stingray', well, it was like that.
    It's the same today.
I also have that thing going on where the first time I make a call it fails and I have to make the call again. That happens about 25% of the time as well.
Plus, my phone has been slow since I updated the software just after the iphone 4 came out, but that's old news now, withy still no solution.
I am on the latest version of iOS4
Any ideas anyone - a reset hasn't helped me.

I have the exact same problems - 'underwater' calls and first time call failing. Just 'googled' this before marching the phone back to Carphone Warehouse!! I have 3gs using software version 4.1 and am on O2 also.
I know I've not been any help - but at least it appears to not just be you!

    Hello,
I imported an imovie soundtrack that I made recently (from my camcorder). The audio track sounds high pitched, donald duck like. what am I doing wrong ?
Also, I want to process the imovie track to remove some echo that was present in the room during recording. What is the easiest method to reduce/remove this - if possible?

The pitch and tempo issue sounds like a sample rate problem, but I thought iMovie audio was recorded at 48K which would make it play lower and slow in GB. For background on this:

You can play with the Gate effect to cut out software sounds, but that would only be during the silent passages.
