HELP! has  my server been taken over?

Im new to Mac, yet i do have some general computer knowledge.
So this is my Problem:
I was Surfing on the web, until my mac just shut down, i couldn't restart it at all. 15min later it turned on by itself. So then i got 2 messages popping up on my screen. The "something" as "someone" is trying to access your server click Deny for limited acces or allow.
And then the same message appeared but with a different name.
So obviously i clicked Deny, but the access is still granted, just limited.
So now my mac wont let me install or update anything, it wont let me logg on to facebook, twitter or any other forums even my email.. (i dont know how i managed to log in to the apple forum i created a new account)
And it sometimes says, "the download has been cancled" because i dont have the right to download anything, Odd??
I also entered this code netstat -n into Terminal and it showed me recent activity, while i wasnt doing anything...?
Please help, thanks!
Ps. i don have warranty on my laptop.

There are a lot of current malware/adware, sql, and other things to be aware of currently.
Crashing or freezing a system no matter how can often result in damage to the directory, lost files, and require extra maintenance.
Having a bootable backup, not just TM, is a good way to protect yourself, and to protect you from any update-gone-bad.

  • Has my iMac been taken over?

For the past 48 hrs, can't always type in passwords, fills up by itself and keeps on going. Also sometimes keys type continuously with sound, as if stuck, but they are not. Also have 'zz' typed on pages (as if by someone else) also appears in searches. When I'm typing a sort of text bubble often accompanies my typing, with numbers 1, 2, 3 and above them z z z with what look like foreign grammatical markings...turkish?
Is my PC being used by someone else or just 'on the way out' it is about 5 or 6 years old. Any help appreciated. I don't know enough to look further myself.

No worries Milly300, you could also try doing a clean install of firefox, or try a different keyboard plugged in?

  • Network has been taken over by other program! please help...

    hello everyone
I have an eMac and the problem is that, everytime that I am trying to access the Network tab in System Preferences, I get a message that it's been taken over by another application!
Can anyone help me on that? Is it a matter of permissions or something else?
Any useful commands or software to fix the problem?
    Thanks in advance!

I have a broadband connection with BT Internet via the BT Home Hub (i.e. router), but I also still have an old dial-up account with OneTel. I have had no trouble at all with my BT broadband connection, but one contact of mine persistently fails to receive e-mails from me and I wanted to conduct some tests, so I decided (amongst other things) to try my OneTel dial-up service, which I haven't used for a long time.
I immediately ran into the problem of the 'Your network settings have been changed…' problem. I rebooted — no improvement. I ran Disk Warrior — no improvement. I then tried the idea of mouse-over-lock idea and it worked. But what is more remarkable is that after I disconnected from OneTel (i.e. closed the internal modem down) and then tried again, it worked straight away, without the persistent error message coming up. Thank you very much for the 'mouse-over-lock' suggestion. Whether, after I have shut my computer down and restarted, the 'repair' will still be operatve, or whether I shall have to go through the procedure again, I don't yet iknow.

Sounds like a bogus pop up. In any case power down your Mac, your modem, your router. Then power back up in 1 minute sequence; modem, router, Mac.

My safari browser seems to have been taken over by a malicious program called only-search.  Does any one know how to uninstall this program from safari?  I am running osX 10.10.

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem.
You may have installed the "VSearch" trojan. Remove it as follows.
Malware is always changing to get around the defenses against it. These instructions are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
Back up all data before proceeding.
    Step 1
From the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Uninstall any extensions you don't know you need, including any that have the word "Spigot," "Trovi," or "Conduit" in the description. If in doubt, uninstall all extensions. Do the equivalent for the Firefox and Chrome browsers, if you use either of those.
Reset the home page and default search engine in all the browsers, if it was changed.
    Step 2
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.vsearch.agent.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "com.vsearch.agent.plist" selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
Repeat with each of these lines:
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.daemon.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.helper.plist
Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Then delete the following items in the same way:
    /Library/Application Support/VSearch
    /System/Library/Frameworks/VSearch.framework
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ConduitNPAPIPlugin.plugin
Some of these items may be absent, in which case you'll get a message that the file can't be found. Skip that item and go on to the next one.
The problem may have started when you downloaded and ran an application called "MPlayerX." That's the name of a legitimate free movie player, but the name is also used fraudulently to distribute VSearch. If there is an item with that name in the Applications folder, delete it, and if you wish, replace it with the genuine article from mplayerx.org.
This trojan is often found on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content such as movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow.
You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that the Internet criminal behind VSearch has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. This failure of oversight has compromised both Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You can't rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • My creative cloud subscription has been taken over by somebody else

I've been in customer service purgatory.  Am feeling desperate so came here for help.  My case # is 209864626.
In October I purchased the Adobe Creative Cloud for $19.99 a month (using the educational discount).  Shortly after that, my computer broke, and I did not have the opportunity to use the software, until now, when I have a new computer.  When I log in to my account, using the email I always use, I do not see the Creative Cloud and I am unable to use any of its features.  I am, however, being charged for it.
In my speaking with customer service, I've been told that there is another email associated with my credit card.  I don't know how this could be, and can only assume there has been some fraud or hacking - whether on your side or mine, I don't know.  But since I don't know what email is now associated with the account (and how would I, since it's not mine?), so far customer service seems to be unable to help.
What I do know is that if I am paying for a monthly service, I ought to have access to it.  I know that I have not yet used any of the features of the creative cloud - if somebody else has, then they are not authorized and are accessing it fraudulently.
I would like to be able to log in to my account (or get a new account) that is signed up to my credit card (that I have already been paying) and use this service.  The only suggestion that I've been given by customer service is to cancel the current subscription on my credit card and start a new one.  But the creative cloud is no longer offered at the price of $19.99, so if this is the only solution, I would like some assistance in signing up a new account at the previous price.
I'm really hoping you can assist.  Thanks in advance for looking into this for me.

    Hi Beccabakkerwells,
It looked like you had an issue with your email being incorrect but it was changed and the issue resolved. Is the issue solved now?

  • My Computer Has Been Taken Over by the Matrix

Can anyone explain this? This is the second time this issue has happened. The first time it happened was a few weeks back. You cannot use the computer when this happens; force quitting accomplishes nothing. Fortunately, however, you can take a screen shot. I was using the 9600GT to avoid the screen flickering associated with using the 9400GT.

My computer is just being a real bundle of joy right now. It's not recognizing either of the install CDs. One of them makes an odd noise and ejects within 10 seconds of inserting it, which the other spins for 5 minutes (speeding up, then slowing down), and then the computer ultimately claims I've inserted a blank disk.
-They ARE the correct install discs for this computer.
-The are not scratched AT ALL.
-My computer has ZERO physical damage.

  • Has my Mac been take over as a spam engine?

Hello everyone. My Email account has recently been swamped by "Mailer demon"messages - i.e. messages returned as undeliverable, none of which I have actually sent. They are all rather nasty spam, allegedly sent from my address. Some are Russian *****, more recently I have had Nigerian money scams and similar thing as well. Needless to say, they do not appear in my "Sent" file in Mail. So either some spammer is simply adding my address to his products, or- nasty thought - my mac (a G5 tower) has been infiltrated by some software which generates these things, or at least allows the spammer to use it for his purposes. Any one have any ideas how I distinguish between these possibilities, and what do I do if the latter turns out to be true? Unless I can identify and destroy the illegal software I will simply reinstall it even if I do a complete erase and reinstallation of my applications and documents, which I would much rather avoid doing. Any help greatly appreciated!
    Hugh Rowell

Not quite sure how this fits with iPhoto 6, but what's +most likely+ happened here is that someone who happens to have have your email address on their machine has been hijacked by a spam bot. What happen here is that this software grabs an email address at random from that machine and sends it out +as though from your machine+. You get all the ones that people bounce or which don't find a working delivery address.
Buy a Spam filter application and get on with your Life.
    Regards
    TD

  • Why has my Creative Cloud taken over Production Premium on a second computer?

I have Creative Cloud on my desktop computer, but Production Premium CS 6 on my main editing computer and my laptop (both on the same Production Premium license).  But the laptop popped up with a notice it was on Creative Cloud and that I needed to log in and license to proceed - which I did.  But I don't want that - I want to keep Production Premium on that computer.  Why did it switch over to Creative Cloud on my laptop, and how do I switch it back to Production Premium?

Thanks jgruzec.  This leads to other questions and issues:
    1.  Is this a normal problem when one has both Adobe purchased software and Adobe subscription software under the same Adobe ID?  Are others seeing it?  I have not seen this described before, and if it was I missed it when I subscribed to Creative Cloud.  I did use the same Adobe ID.
    2.  I don't have any way to deactivate Production Premium on the laptop because that computer thinks it is on a Creative Cloud license.  So I can't deactivate, reinstall and do offline re-activation.
    3.  I have not used my main editing computer with Production Premium for a while as I have been working in the field with the laptop.  Can I expect that when I start using it, it will come up the same issue?
    4.  I don't know how it would work with another Adobe ID, and how one might transfer licenses to a new account.  I expect this is talking with Adobe support and working through it, but is this something others have done so that Adobe knows the issue and will be able to solve it?
    5.  Is Adobe apt to fix this problem so that customers can have both purchased software and subscription software in their main account?

  • I have been taken over by "installmac"  how do I get rid of it?

Help...."installmac" wont get off my computer

You installed the "Genieo/InstallMac" rootkit. The product is a fraud, and the developer knowingly distributes an uninstaller that doesn't work. I suggest the tedious procedure below to disable Genieo. This procedure may leave a few small files behind, but it will permanently deactivate the rootkit (as long as you never reinstall it.)
Malware is constantly changing to get around the defenses against it. The instructions in this comment are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
Back up all data. You must know how to restore from a backup even if the system becomes unbootable. If you don't know how to do that, or if you don't have any backups, stop here and ask for guidance.
    Step 1
In the Applications folder, there should be an item named "Genieo". Select it and open the Finder Info window. If it shows that the Version is less than 2.0, download and install the current version from the genieo.com website. This may seem paradoxical, since the goal is to remove it, but you'll be saving yourself some trouble as well as the risk of putting the system in an unusable state.
There should be another application in the same folder named "Uninstall Genieo". After updating Genieo, if necessary, launch "Uninstall Genieo" and follow the prompts to remove the "newspaper-style home page." Restart the computer.
This step does not completely inactivate Genieo.
    Step 2
Don't take this step unless you completed Step 1, including the restart, without any error messages. If you couldn't complete Step 1, stop here and ask for instructions.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Frameworks/GenieoExtra.framework
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
    from the contextual menu.
If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
A folder should open with an item named "GenieoExtra.framework" selected. Move that item to the Trash. You'll be prompted for your administrator password.
Move each of these items to the Trash in the same way:
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.completer.update.plist
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.engine.plist
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieoinnovation.macextension.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.genieoinnovation.macextension.client.plist
    /Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/com.genieoinnovation.macextension.client/u/usr/lib/libgenkit.dylib/usr/lib/libgenkitsa.dylib
    /usr/lib/libimckit.dylib
    /usr/lib/libimckitsa.dylib~/Library/Application Support/com.genieoinnovation.Installer~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.completer.download.plist
    ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.completer.update.plist
If there are other items with a name that includes "Genieo" or "genieo" alongside any of those listed above, move them as well. There's no need to restart after each one. Some of these items will be absent, in which case you'll get a message that the file can't be found. Skip that item and go on to the next one.
Restart and empty the Trash. Don't try to empty the Trash until you have restarted.
    Step 3
From the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Uninstall any extensions you don't know you need, including ones called "Genieo" or "Omnibar," and any that have the word "Spigot" or "InstallMac" in the description. If in doubt, uninstall all extensions. Do the equivalent for the Firefox and Chrome browsers, if you use either of those.
Your web browser(s) should now be working, and you should be able to reset the home page and search engine. If not, stop here and post your results.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install this software. Chances are you got it from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad has a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If youever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that the Genieo developer has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing, has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. It must be said that this failure of oversight is inexcusable and has seriously compromised the value of Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You cannot rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.
Finally, be forewarned that when Genieo is mentioned on this site, the developer sometimes shows up under the name "Genieo support." If that happens, don't believe anything he says, but feel free to tell him what you think of his scam.
