Help! Have I "throttled" my MBP's disk IO?

Am concerned I may have "throttled" (whatever that means) my HD's IO.
It happened during an attempt to rid my "open with" list of duplicate entries. In Terminal, I ran the below command which, on my old iMac, would remedy a similar "open with" issue. :
/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchSe rvices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain local -domain system -domain user
However, on the MBP 13 (2010), Terminal responded with the message: Throttling Disk IO. (And, no, the duplicate "open with" entries remain.)
Throttling--the term sounds ominous. So, phoned AppleCare, spoke with two technicians, neither of whom understood why I would receive such a message, nor its contextual meaning.
Have posted in the OS X Technologies category, but sense I may need a broader net to catch an answer.
What have I done to my system? Do I need to undo it? Have I inadvertently slowed the system's disk IO? And, to my original problem, which has yet to be resolved, is there a safe way to rid the duplicate entries in the "open with" list?

The button response has changed.
Short press : sleep
Medium press (2-3 sec) : restart, shutdown, sleep dialog
Long press : force shutdown. (Same as before)

I have the latest Mac Air 13" and I have a Seagate 500MB external hard disk I cant copy or Cut any files on the hard disk and I cant even delete any files. I have the settings as Read and Write in the get info tab. Please help

thats the problem, its in MSDos (Fat) or NTFS for Windows.
Options.....
1. offload all that data on the HD onto your PC, THEN format the HD in EXFAT for use on BOTH PC and Mac for read/write.....then reload all (or as you need) that data back onto the HD
2. get another HD, and format it for Mac OSX extended journaled.
FAT32 (File Allocation Table)
Read/Write FAT32 from both native Windows and native Mac OS X.
Maximum file size: 4GB.
Maximum volume size: 2TB
You can use this format if you share the drive between Mac OS X and Windows computers and have no files larger than 4GB.
NTFS (Windows NT File System)
Read/Write NTFS from native Windows.
Read only NTFS from native Mac OS X
To Read/Write/Format NTFS from Mac OS X, here are some alternatives:
For Mac OS X 10.4 or later (32 or 64-bit), install Paragon (approx $20) (Best Choice for Lion)
Native NTFS support can be enabled in Snow Leopard and Lion, but is not advisable, due to instability.
AirPort Extreme (802.11n) and Time Capsule do not support NTFS
Maximum file size: 16 TB
Maximum volume size: 256TB
You can use this format if you routinely share a drive with multiple Windows systems.

Hello I have an iBook G4 with a disk issue! Help

Hello I have an iBook G4 and my disk/CD drive has disappeared. I also have a disk stuck in it. it spins on start up but nothing, I've tried all the reset and hold options and no luck. is there a driver i could install to find it or do i need to replace it?

I upgraded from an i5 to an i7 15" MBP and restored my files using my time machine backup. All seemed to go ok, except I had to use the migration assistant because on the initial boot the MAC didn't recognize the backup database on the USB device. MAybe this is a hint.
Since when I start FCPX it too cannot finnd the project or event directories.
Before my upgrade, I had a choice of files either on the Macintosh disk or the 2TB USB disk.
Now only files on the Macintosh are accessible to FCPX. The USB drive is visible under events and project but it finds no projects or events.
Please help if you can.

I think I have the structure that you are recommending.
I have a root level directory (Final Cut Events) with the files in them.
The puzzling thing is that it used to work before the migration!.
Anyway I'm going to move the contents to the root and see what happens.
On a slightly different note...
I also posted a question about CPU utilization. Can I ask a question or two?
While rendering a short clip, I noticed burst of disk activity when the render started (likely loading the media files into ram since I have about 4Gigs available, then almost no activity while the render is happening, then more disk activity when its done.
However the cpu activity is not as high as I would have expected since rendering requires a lot of cpu.
What is your experience? I know some render is done by the GPU, but in my older i5 the CPU was about 100%, now in my i7 its about 50%.
Please look at the attached utilization for CPU and disk activity.

Here is my question: I have MBP early 2011 and was trying to install Windows 8 using Bootcamp but the option to install Windows is grayed out so I can’t click the box next to “Install or Remove Windows 7.” Is this because I have multiple partition on my hard disk drive? Is there anyway I can install Windows 8 using Bootcamp without deleting my partitions on my hard disk?

You can't create a Boot Camp partition on a drive you've already partitioned, and you can't install Windows 8 through Boot Camp at this time.

I have Mac OS X, using boot camp i installed windows 7. installation was successful but when i try to select to boot back to mac os x via boot camp from Windows 7 control panel, its saying "You may not have privileges to change the startup disk..."

from the boot camp control panel, highlighted "Macintosh HD Mac OS X", click on Restart button or click OK or click Apply buttons gave me "An error occurred while trying to change the startup disk. You may not have privileges to change the startup disk. Make sure you have administrative privileges and try again."
Im logged in to Windows 7 as admin thou but still giving me the above message.
i rebooted & the option key does not give me option to boot to Mac instead gives me a screen with lock then below is a blank field then a right arrow on the right side, i normally hit the power button from this screen

You should have gotten it with your computer. If it shipped with 10.6.8 or earlier, perform a custom installation of it from the computer's original disks. If it shipped with 10.7 or newer, you can get it from the Mac App Store for free.
In other cases, iOS and Mac OS X applications are separate products and purchases.

I have the BOSE Companion 5 speakers and have had the same problem. I've searched everywhere and gotten nowhere. My speakers are way past their warranty, so calling Bose would probably get me no where either. Only thing I can think of is that the speakers overheat which causes the spikes in the volume. I've tried unplugging them for a few minutes and then plug them back on. The problem does go away, but after about 5 minutes, same problem.

First of all, you should always save you photos on computer like any other digital camera.
Backup on iCloud or iTunes only backup your Camera Roll. The other photos should be already on the computer.
Note: Photos are not saved in iTunes, it's only a conduit between your iPhone and your photo managing software on computer.

I have a Windows 7 Pro OEM disk that can install either the 32 or 64 bit version. When using version 5.0.3 of Bootcamp, I keep getting the message that it is a 32 bit disk. Any ideas how to get it to recognize the 64 bit version?

If by "OEM" you mean the disk came with another Win computer, it won't work. You need either a full retail verison or the "System Builders' Edition." I used the latter for my BC installation and it worked flawlessly and was marked as 64-bit--no mention of 32-bit.
