HELP! HD crashed, had it data restored, moved my aperture library back in

now all the photos are there, i can see thumbnails and the large versions
but I have the yellow sign with the !, and it says master files not found..the master files were never referenced elsewhere, my aperture library is a 40+ gig library, all the original photos are still in there...
i have no idea why it's telling me the masters can't be found, when it's the masters that i'm looking at on the screen...

Glad to hear you got your data back, have you backed it up?
A couple of thoughts;
1. you have probably got a new drive to replace the one that died? Check that it is Mac OS formatted.
2. With recovering the data and "rebuilding the library you may need to get Aperture to do a "Rebuild" and Consistency Check"
This link gives an overview on how to do it.

  • Hard disk crash:  How do I restore my old Aperture Library?

My hard disk crashed last Friday. I was able to retrieve the Aperture Library file onto an external hard drive. I have reinstalled my system software and all applications including Aperture. I am having difficulty trying to update Aperture with my old library. I have tried dragging it over into my Pictures folder. It asks me if I want to "rebuild" but then it freezes up.
    Any suggestions?

Yes, the old file is called "Aperture Library". I've moved it to my internal hard drive, into a new folder. I went to preferences and chose that as my new location. I quit Aperture and reopened. It said,
"Warning. There was an error opening the database for the library "%@".
    Error: %@"
It then gave me a choice to Rebuild Later/ Rebuild Now. So I told it to rebuild now. The program is still open. Nothing seems to be happening. Does it take a long time to rebuild? How can I tell if it is still rebuilding?

  • I've moved my Aperture library to another computer, and masters are referencing an old path name.  How can I update these references?  Reloctating masters does not work in this case :(

I've moved my Aperture library from one computer to another using Finder.
I merged the library with one which was already on the computer.
Now, the photos I imported have reference to the old path name on my old computer.
How can I update these references as "Relocate Masters" does not work in this case?

Just one suggestion to be able to reconnect all at once:
Create a smart album containing the images with missing masters:
File -> New ->  Smart Album,     and add a rule: File Status is "Missing"     (or File Status is "offline")
Then select the images in this album and go to the File menu:
and select:   File -> Locate referenced File
If you are lucky, Aperture will reconnect all at once, if you point the first image version to its counterpart.

  • I recently moved my Aperture Library file to an external hard drive.  Can I now create a vault to be saved on my Time Capsule for the Aperture library on this external hard drive?

I recently moved my Aperture Library file to an external hard drive.  Can I now create a vault to be saved on my Time Capsule for the Aperture library on this external hard drive?

One thing to bear in mind, if you are using Time Machine on your Time Capsule and have it set so the TM backup includes your external drive, you will effectively be backing up your Aperture library twice on the same drive, once with Time Machine and once with the vault. This isn't a problem unless you start to run out of space.
Another thing to note, vaults on network drives used to be flaky (i.e. not really supported) and required workarounds to be able to use them. I'm not sure if this has changed, but I just managed to create a vault on my TC ok.

  • Can i delete iphoto data after moving to aperture?

I am trying to clean up my hard drive and I'm wondering if I can delete the following information now that I have moved to Aperture:
    1. images in the "Pictures" folder which are there for some reason I don't understand
    2. "IPhoto Library Recovered Photos" folder
3, "IPhoto Library Recovered Photos_2" folder
    4. "iPhoto Slideshows" folder
    5. "Rebuilt Library" file which shows as being a " iPhoto Library" Kind of file.
Collectively these seem to take up 50 GB of data and I am trying to get clear of my nasty and brutish port to mac from a PC environment (not pretty and not easy).
    TIA

    Hi Terence.
    Thank you!
Can I please ask you what I should look at on 5? It sounds like there is a a question as to whether my "port" from iPhoto to Aperture dragged the images out of the iPhoto database and into the Aperture database?
Is there a way to check on this?
    Thanks.

  • Backing up and Restoring a large Aperture library

One of our departments is looking to backup their Aperture library (170 Gb and growing). They would like to do an initial backup of everything, and then incrementally from that point. We tried using Retrospect it backed up fine although it took about 30 hours to do it, but when we tested the restore after the full back up a good portion of the photos were inaccessible.
We then backed up a small portion of the library and then tried a restore and all the photos are there.
    Any suggestions?
Does Vault allow for incremental backups?
    Thank for any help
    Denny

I simply copy Aperture Library file (approximately 76 Gb) on an external Hard disk (FW800).
Time of copying approximately 1 hour.
Thus backup copy works perfectly. I have one more Mac and Aperture (MacBook). I once a week copy Aperture Library file on MacBook, it as reserve working station for me, and also on some photos session I take MacBook with myself. Aperture (witch backup library from iMac) works on it fine.

  • Moving my iPhoto library back to my MacBook Pro

About 6 months ago I had a older MacBook Pro and when my internal HD was getting tight I read how to move my library to an external HD. Now I have a new MacBook Pro with a much bigger HD. I would like to move the entire library back.
I need help to find the best way of doing the move. I don't know if I have to change the location on the Preference to the internal HD.
    I am using iPhoto 11
I appreciate any help on this. Thanks

Simply drag the Library from the External to the Internal HD. The Pictures folder is a good idea for a place to put it. Then Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and open it.

  • Need help in distributing Master Folder (all my original pics), Aperture Library, Aperture Back-up, Vault and Time Machine

I have a desktop iMac and three external HDs. One HD called Aperture Library (2T) now has Aperture Library, Time Machine backups and Master Folder, which is where I put my RAW files of pictures I want to keep. A second HD called Aperture back-up (1T) has another large Master Folder. This was created a long time ago when I was using Lightroom. I plan to transfer pictures on to HD Aperture Library > Master Folder so I will have 1 Master Folder. A third external HD called Vault (1T) now only contains my Quicken b/u.
I have not made a vault yet for Aperture, because I am in the process of exporting files from Lightroom and bringing them into Aperture 3. What a mess, especially because I was not able to use my photo apps (Lightroom or Aperture) for a few months and forgot  the do's and don'ts. Please help me organize this stuff while I have the time and motivation. Greatly appreciated.

Note that Masters need only be backed up once (but to multiple backup locations) and that backup should happen immediately after copying to the hard drive from the camera card, before involving Aperture or any other images management app.
Time Capsule is an ongoing regular-routine backup process. Image originals instead need irregularly timed backup, once.
IMO referenced Masters make far more sense than building huge managed-Masters Libraries.
    • Hard disk speed. Drives slow as they fill so making a drive more full (which managed Masters always does) will slow down drive operation.
    • Database size. Larger databases are by definition more prone to "issues" than smaller databases are.
    • Vaults. Larger Library means larger Vaults, and Vaults are an incremental repetitive backup process, so again larger Vaults are by definition more prone to "issues" than smaller Vaults are. One-time backup of Referenced Masters (each file small, unlike a huge managed-Masters DB) is neither incremental nor ongoing; which is by definition a more stable process.
Managed-Masters Libraries can work, but they cannot avoid the basic database physics.

  • "To open this iPhoto library in Aperture, it first needs to be upgraded".  Aperture already up to date. still cant open aperture library. please advice

When I try to open my aperture library, this is the message pop out  " TO OPEN THIS iPHOTO LIBRARY IN APERTURE, IT FIRST NEEDS TO BE UPGRADED. "
My apperture application is already up to date. no more upgrade available. please advice what to do.

The update refers to the library not the application.
So is this an Aperture library you are trying to open in iPhoto or an iPhoto library you are trying to open in Aperture? You're post is confusing on this point.
In either case make sure the library is up-to-date in the originating application then the other should open it.
BTW what version of iPhoto abnd Aperture are you running?

  • Moving an Aperture library

So my 17" MBP Uni is showing as "shipped" and should be with me next week Soooooo. How do I move my Aperture Library/database from my existing 15" MBP (running Leopard) to my new 17" MBP running SnowLeo?
I have all my masters referenced on a 500GB FW drive so hopefully that bit is straight-forward, but due to the problems some people seem to be having with SnowLeo and Aperture, I really want to have an overlap period with Aperture on both machines until I get sufficient confidence to cut loose from Leopard. I understand the licensing restrictions concerning multiple access on the same network but I only need the Leopard library until I'm sure the SnowLeo one behaves as it should.
I'm not going to do the Mac to Mac transfer thing because I know things don't always work perfectly with this, and anyway I'm going to keep the new machine quite clean for Aperture and web development, and leave most of the other stuff seperate on the older machine - hence my question.
So what's involved? Load Ap on the new machine, upgrade to 2.1.4 and then move some pref files? If so which ones guys?
    Thanks in advance
    Al

Logically that's what I thought, but you read so many scare stories here about people's libraries getting screwed up or files getting corrupted. I'm one of the (many) people who have never had problems with Aperture, and I just wanted to keep it that way
    Thanks again

  • Help-computer crashed-had to re-install itunes

Okay, computer crashed and had to re-install itunes, how do i get all the songs on my daughter's iopd back into the library. After I installed itunes, a window popped up saying that this ipod is already in sync with another library, and can only be synced with one library at a time. But I don't HAVE the other library anymore. It gives me two options, to erase everything on the ipod and replace it with whats in the new library (which has nothing but 3 free songs that will get deleted anyway) or the transfer just the purchased songs into the new library. But what about all the other songs that are on there?? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Connect your iPod and when you get the message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. A paragraph on the transfer of iTMS purchases has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows. The procedure is a bit involved and it won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. This is just a selection, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    iGadget Windows Only
iPod Access Mac and Windows Versions
    PodUtil Mac and Windows Versions
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
    PodPlayer Windows Only
    CopyPod Windows Only
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up in case you have problems again. External drives are comparatively inexpensive these days and you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • HELP computer crash when using data translation with labview

    Hi,
So to explain what I'm doing for starters, I have used DT-Link with DataTrans devices and Labview in the past without any issue. Mainly D/O blocks, A/Os and maybe 1 A/I. So I'm relatively familiar with working with these.
I began working on a new project that involes a dt9817 using 18 or so D/Os and then they had purchased a 9812(10v) for the 4 A/Is needed. I didn't seem to have any problems setting up the D/Os, in a while loop I referenced the 9812 and put in a write function. Now when I created the A/Is I did it just like I had before for a single A/I. I spent a little time figuring out how to get them to read from the correct port, but eventually figured it out.
The problem is now that sporadically when the program is running, the computer will go to blue screen and then restart!! The only significant things I have time to see before it restarts are:
    DT9810_x64.sys
    bluescreen error
    code: 50
I know it has something to do with DT Link as it is almost the only thing in the program and it only goes to bluescreen when the program is running.
    To answer questions:
Brand new computer. Asus i7 quad core.
I have tried to repair LV Link multiple times with no success.
Finally, I'm assuming it is based around a problem with the way I'm sampling the 4 A/I channels, but I can't think of any other way to do it. If some one can help me figure this out, or post an example code for multiple A/I channels into xy graphs I would really appreciate it.
    Thanks in advance,
    Luke

I just wanted to update this thread. Since having this error I worked out a few things that seem to have made the error more infrequent, however, it is still causing a major issue when the chemists are trying to run and a blue screen is pulled.
I have gotten to an executable on a few projects and I have seen the error come up on both the development computer and target computers. It has been narrowed down to a problem with the digital outputs, and the LV Link digital output driver. Unfortunately the Data Translation people have been less than helpful, so I was hoping that someone might be able to post some example code to work from.
This is the crash dump file from the last time I got a blue screen. If it makes a difference, it was taken from a computer with an executable.
Here is the code that pulls the error.
Thank you to anyone who can help. I am really stumped at this point.

  • Just synced and updated os for ipod touch 5th gen and have lost game data - restore won't get it back, is there anyway to retrieve?

Have new ipod touch and successfully transferred game data from old ipod touch, but today have updated to the new os (from 6.1.2 to 6.1.3) and now have lost game progress on several apps.
Have tried to restore the backup but it doesn't bring back the game data
Is there anything I can do to find this data or is it gone for good?

If restoring from backup did not work then there is nothing else you can do. Did you try both from iTunes backup and iCloud backup? If you restore from iTunes backup you have to have the apps in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup.

  • How can I restore a .aplib Aperture library from time machine?

When I try and restore my Aperture I get folders instead of a single .aplib file.  Does anyone know how I can restore the .aplib file so I can open it?

How are you trying to resore it?  If you enter Time Machine, find the version of the library you want to resore select it and click restore you shouke be good to go.
If a library of the same nae still exists in folder you're restoring to you'll get a window asking what you want to do, keep current, keep both or just keep the restored version.
If on the other hand you are opening the Time Machine disk and going to the folder with the library in it and trying to just drag it out all bets are off.
