Help. HD DVD not recognised by Toshiba player

I am burning a 40 second slideshow with no sound onto a looping HD DVD for display on a widescreen. I have burnt around 9 DVDs so far with a variety of settings, but the Toshiba HD-E1KY player I have to use recognises none of them. It simply brings up a box saying this is not a DVD.
Looking through the forum it seems Toshiba players may be an issue, but has anyone any advice on some simple settings that work with DVD SP 4.2.1
ANY suggestions welcome as I dont have enough hair left to keep ripping it out at this pace.

How did you create the HD DVD and how did you burn it?
Apple implemented some of the HD DVD specifications but not all of them and it seemed to be more of an issue that Toshiba had to update Firmware on some machines to make it closer to HD DVD. Does the message box say not HD DVD or not a DVD? What files/folders are in you build file?

  • Start up DVD not recognised by mountain lion

My start up DVD not recognised by mountain lion-how do I get around this for restoring from time machine?

It's not very clear:  Are you trying to reinstall Mountain Lion from a DVD copy you made of it, for some reason?    And if so, why would that help you restore from Time Machine?  Please give more information.  Properly, to either reinstall Mountain Lion, or to Restore it from Time Machine, you need to reboot while holding down the Command - R keys as mcsound above recommended, to boot into the Mountain Lion Recovery Partition to do either.

  • DVDs not recognised since updating to 10.6.8

Since updating to 10.6.8 I get the message format not recognised when inserting DVDs  movies / recordable media etc. Any ideas.

Just to clarify: DVD movie discs inserted into my iMac come up with the message "the disk you inserted was not readable by this computer." Data, software install disks and audio CD's work fine. I have tried repairing the disk and permissions, as well as creating a new user account. I applied the 10.6.8 update to my wife's macbook and no problem reading DVD movie disks. So is this problem specific to the iMac? I have a 2.66 core duo with 4GB of RAM. Any ideas anyone?

  • Help! Backups not recognised when attempting full restore

I recently screwed up my Macbook while trying to mess about with partitions and the like, and I thought no problem simply reinstall and restore from time machine back ups.
Slight problem. No OS X install disc, only a leopard upgrade one.
So I used an old image cloned using superduper and copied that to Macintosh HD so now the main HD has a bootable image (btw I'm really not at all sure about the terminology here, it is the result of massive googling) as in it will turn on and work fine and dandy.
But this image is from a long time ago and is missing lots of important stuff. So I try and restore it from my time machine back ups using the upgrade disc - and it doesn't work.
Doesn't recognise anything as time machine back ups, it simply shows my external as an orange icon, not the green TM one, same on the desktop when I simply turn the computer on.
Anyone know a way around this problem? You'll have my undying gratitude.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me!

Well it shows up, but when I select it there seems to be no back ups that it recognises.
But when I manually go into the drive the data is all there and correct :$ This is very annoying.
    Any suggestions?

  • [SOLVED] Commercial DVD Not Recognised

I have recently bought a commercial DVD that will not play on my PC. When I load it into the drive, it is just not "seen". Kaffeine reports a dvd read error, while smplayer, etc think there is no disc in the drive. All my other DVDs (with various region codes) play perfectly. This particular disc works fine on the set-top player on my TV.
I have checked that libdvdcss, etc are installed OK.
Does anyone have any ideas what's causing this, and suggest any fixes?

Yay for going legit huh? On a more serious note, do you have any possibility to test the dvd in other drives besides yours? It might just be that your drive is getting old or the dvd quality could be better and your drive has some difficulty reading it. Even pressed media can be of bad quality and some drives work miracles while others seem to quit at the first sign of trouble and I guess it also depends on the type of defect.
As for the possibility of the problem being caused by a copy protection, could also be the case, although I can't say much about that as I haven't looked at that for a long time, you could look here [1] as it may have something interesting. On the other hand, I'd say many standalone players use the same drives as available for computers so I'm not sure if someone would risk breaking things in that case.

  • Help! nano not recognized by toshiba

Hello! I know that iPod connectivity with Toshiba laptops seems to be quite a problem here, and unfortunatelly, I have become the next victim of this frustrating issue.
Yesterday I got the iPod nano 1G, installed the latest iPod updater, the latest iTunes, but both of them do not recognize the iPod. I roamed through the discussions here, I tried the 5Rs, I tried HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool numerous times, turned the USB connections off and on, and so on and so on, but absolutely nothing will help. I think there's nothing I haven't tried yet, expect for THE solution...
Windows recognizes the iPod as a F:Removable Disk witrh nothing in it, you cannot format it. If you try formatting with the HP USB Tool, it will say "Device is protected" and if I try to change the drive name, it will not even show up in the Disk Manager.
I came until the point where iPod Updater tries to restore the iPod, but at the end it will say "Cannot mount".
It's a desaster! My iPod Shuffle was working perfectly with this rather new laptop. (I broke it, that's why I bought the nano) I expected to enjoy the nano in the same wyay, just plug and play, but this has become a nightmare since NOTHING seems to be working.
If anyone can help me please, I would regain my faith in apple again... thank you!

    i solved the problem!!
even no one replied to this, i will describe shortly what i did, for every one who runs into the same problem!
the reason itunes could not recognize ipod was that the usb 2.0 drivers for my toshiba dynabook were outdated or just BAD.
so i looked for updates for my dynabook, updated everything i could find.
restarted the pc and boom! - itunes and ipod connect and you find me laughing on the floor.
so, i update your system, your usb drives and see if it works. it solved all the other problems i had with my usb connections before (like with my mouse and digital camera).

  • Help needed - Macbook not recognising built-in iSight

    Hi,
I have had my Macbook for 4 years and had no problems with the built-in iSight until today. I tried a Skype call and realised the green light wasn't showing. I looked in all files to see if the computer recognised it was there and - nothing! It would appear it has 'disappeared'!
I have tried the KB article stuff 2090 but it doesn't make any difference....
I am by no means any kind of computer genius and am totally stuck. If anyone could help that would be much appreciated.
    Many thanks,

  • Burnt DVD not recognised on Windows Computer

My wife and I have recently started our own business, and are using 'Disk Utility' to do daily backups of our work onto DVD+RW disks. Every few days we erase the old disks and re-write over them. We have 2 computers an IMac G5 on Tiger and a Laptop on Windows Vista. Due to the nature of the work I often have to use files created on the Mac on the Laptop. I would like to use the previous days back-up disk to transfer the files to the laptop as it is the most hassle free method of transferring the files over, especially when working away from home. This is where the problem starts, the burnt disks are easily read on the iMac, I have checked them several times as I'm paranoid about loosing my work. But when I put the DVD into the Laptop, a pop-up asks me what I want to do with my blank disk. I checked the help files on 'Disk Utility' and they talk about setting the volume format to a microsoft setting but when I erase the DVD that menu is greyed out. What can I do as the only way for me to transfer files at the moment is by using my iPod which takes several transfers to copy everything over, using up a lot of my time.
Regards & Thanks for any responses

Data disks created with Disk Utility are normally Mac format. To read them with Windows you need MacDrive

If you use the Finder to burn the DVD, it will be in both Mac and PC format, and should work with no additional software.

  • Data DVD not recognised

I burnt my images on my old PC on a DVD, marking it as a data DVD and making it presumably compatible with other systems. It can be read by other PC's, but not by my new MacBook. It marks it as an unburnt CD!!
It reads CDs & DVDs just fine.
Please, if you have any ideas...

Sonic is the name of the company (they bought Roxio), not the application. But anyway, I have Sonic DigitalMedia Plus on my Dell and I see an option to burn as Data > "Direct to disc" which would indicate it is probably using packet writing (similar to writing to a floppy or DVD-RAM), then they have the option to click "Make compatible" in order to share the disc. Maybe you didn't click that? If your other PC's also have the same burning software, they would be able to read it even without making it "compatible". Or make sure you are clicking on "Data Disc" instead when creating new discs.
Let me know how you made out.

  • Serial Number not Recognised by Toshiba

I recently bought a P505-S8980 and when I've attempted to register with Toshiba I'm advised they have no record of that serial number.  What can I do?

Please edit your post to remove your Serial Number.  It isn't needed and should NEVER be posted in a public forum.  No support person would ever need or ask for the serial number for any reason in a public forum.  They might ask you to send it via a PM, but only do that if you know the person is an actual employee of the company (like Jim, the admin here sometimes requests it to assist users).  NONE of the rest of us are Toshiba Employees and have no need or use for your serial number.
If it still doesn't work you'll need to call Customer Service and register by phone.  See the Contact US link at the top of this page for the phone number.
If you don't post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please try to post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time.

  • HELP! Ram not recognised

I have a similar problem to the 1 GB Problem RAM. I just bought my Powerbook G4 about a week ago, and it came with 512 MB of RAM. It worked just fine until I installed OS X 10.4.2. After this, the computer started displaying only 256 RAM and showing an error message at the hardware diagnosis: DIMM1/J31 Failed. I dont know what to do, it used to work fine but it seems something happened after the update. I have downgraded back to 10.4, but it didnt help. What could be going on here?

That's very interesting. Ironically, I just got off the phone with my service provider after taking in a 2.0 DP PM that ran for less than 24 hours with the same symptoms as yours. Except my RAM read as half the amount they really were (ei: 256 were reading as 128, 512 as 256), then the upgraded 512 sticks failed, then the factory RAM failed and it just altogether died.
The techie reinstalled the factory RAM and it suddenly started working again, and reading the RAM correctly. That said, he still thinks it's a failing logic board, not the RAM. This sounds all too much like your PB, Guillermo!
I think the installation of Tiger is nothing more than a coincidence. Print off and take this thread with you as proof to your service people and ask for a new logic board to be installed. It may take a little longer to get your PB back, but at least the problem has been taken care of.
    Good luck!

  • DVD not Recognised

I have an iMac and it doesn't recognise a DVD, it just ejects it. CD works ok, and if I sign in as a guest the DVD works ok. I have tried all the settings I can find but nothing works. can anybody help

If it's just one DVD then it's probably damaged. Have you attempted to use other DVDs, if you have and still have an issue then go to your local Office Supply store and get a CD/DVD cleaning kit. It's possible that is all that is needed, a good cleaning.

  • DVD not working on standalone player

I burned a DVD of a bunch of pictures for my grandmother, and it won't play on her DVD player. It spins and spins and says it can't find the disk. She has a brand new DVD player. Can anyone tell me if I did something wrong when I burned it? The DVD works fine within my computer on my internal DVD player.
    Thanks! ~Serene

I also tried the DVD on another standalone player, and it didn't work there either. So it works on my computer's DVD player, but nowhere else. Do I need to format it another way? I wish iDVD was more specific on this. It doesn't say anything about burning for stand-alones.
There is no formatting issue in iDVD; its purpose is to create DVD's that will play on standard players. I suggested trying another player just as a precaution. Some users have gone through many procedures trying to resolve a problem only to find out that the problem originated in the player.
It is a Memorex DVD+R DL. 8x. I don't really know what that means.
DVD+R and DVD-R are two types of DVD. Read this article for more info. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD%2BR
I think I burned at max speed.
8x is related to the speed at which the disk can be burned. The veteran posters on these forums recommend a burn speed of 4x or lower.
Even though your DVD plays correctly on your computer, it is possible that your disk has errors resulting from the burning process. The advice in Bengt's post has many useful tips on how to avoid these errors.
