  • Compatible Monitor for MacBook Pro late 2011

Hello, I would like to purchase a monitor to use with my MacBook Pro "Core i7" 2.2 15" Late 2011
I found some cheap models from Dell but I'm not exactly sure what specs to look for in order to have a fully compatible monitor.
    Could you eventually help me?
    Thank you in advance
    MacBook Pro's Technical Specs (from http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook_pro/specs/macbook-pro-core-i7-2.2- 15-late-2011-unibody-thunderbolt-specs.html)
Connectivity includes AirPort Extreme (802.11a/b/g/n), Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, Gigabit Ethernet, a Firewire "800" port, two USB 2.0 ports, separate audio in and out ports, an SDXC card slot, and a "Thunderbolt" port that is backwards compatible with Mini DisplayPort and, likewise, supports an external display at 2560x1600 and passes an audio signal. Thunderbolt also supports other peripherals that use the Thunderbolt standard which provides up to 10 Gbps of bandwidth in both directions.

I've never seen a monitor that requires drivers to be installed. Maybe that's why you can't find any. All, at least that I know of will work with any computer. But I may just not be aware of any that won't/don't work with your Macbook Pro.

  • Heating Issues for MacBook Pro (early 2011)

    Hi
Am facing heating issues and am looking for what should be the ideal fan speeds for CPU Temp range
    My Mac Details
    MacBook Pro (13-inch Late 2011), Mac OS X (10.7.3)
Processor : 2.8 GHz Intel Core
    Memory : 16 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Storage : 750 GB SATA Disk
Graphics : Intel HD Graphics 3000 512 MB
My standard use is Mac with one VM (Win7) running.
What I have observed is the Fan speed is generall ~ 2000 rpm for CPU temp range of 55 - 70 Deg C.
Should the fan be spinnig faster as the base of the machine does become too hot for comfort to be working on Lap.
Are there any apps that can help me run some tests to montor performance?
    Please help.
    Thanks
    Brijesh

A MBP should not be used on your lap since your body will act as an insulator that will inhibit heat dissapation.
Heat generated will be a function of the stress placed on  the CPU/GPU by the number and type of applications you have open.   Skype, video, games, and the like can result in temperatures that  approach and exceed 100 c.  There are internal sensors that will shut  down the MBP if it starts to over heat.
The temperatures that you have reported are not unusual and are well within acceptable parameters for the MBP.  The fans will start to speed up, when the heat increases, as required.  Some users install fan control software, but I am of the opinion that what the Apple engineers have installed is satisfactory and need not be altered.
You may encounter a runaway application as described in the following link.  Usually a restart will solve the issue.

  • SSD for macbook pro late 2011

    Hello,
I need some help about SSD drives. I have read a lot but I don't understand much and decided to ask someone know better than me. My Macbook Pro is late 2011 i5 8gb ram and want to change its hard drive with SSD 256gb. I need advice about brands. For example is this okay 256GB Ultra Plus SATA 3.0 SSD? Or which SSD should I prefer?
    Thanks a lot.
    Selim Cavusoglu

    Hey Selim,
I've installed many different brands of SSD's as well as different tier options for the same brand of SSD. In my experience, regardless of the brand the boot time will be right there next to each other between the 13-16 seconds range. Now if you want the best bang for your buck the simplest answer is go to amazon and buy a samsung 840 pro or samsung 840 evo. The performance is very similar and the price of the pro is a little higher since it will last longer due to it being a MLC SSD vs the EVO which is a TLC SSD. So if that answered your question there you go keep reading if you want:)
Between the two, i picked a used (by amazons standards, it had just had damage to the packaging) 840 EVO and it was about the same price as what you have  shown an example. Now, buying used from amazon is hit or miss, so i recommend spending the extra $10-$20 for peace of mind. There is also cheaper options, but samsung seems to have the BEST track record with reliability AND performance. Keep in mind the 50MB differences in read speeds you see on benchmarks actually aren't very noticeable in launching apps.
Hope I've helped, If you would prefer a different option from the recommended samsung 840 evo let me know and ill gladly give a few more options.

  • Best upgrades for MacBook Pro Late 2011

Hello, searching in the community, only brings me to posts that are from 2012, as newer tech is available, I would like to renew the question and hopefully get some updated comments and suggestions.
    I own a MacBook Pro 15 late 2011 (2,2GHz Intel Core i7, 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3, matte retina display, Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB, OS X 10.9.5 13F34).
I would like to upgrade to Mavericks and while I'm at it, I'll upgrade the hardware as well (HD and RAM).
I'm a photographer, and I noticed that Lightroom and PS are running slower as I upgraded through the OSs, this is the main reason for my need to upgrade, I would like more speed overall. There are so many choices of SSDs and RAMs on the net, I would love to get some good feedback from this post and maybe boil this down to three upgrade possibilities:
1 The BEST (meaning the top of the line and probably most expensive)
2 The MID (good compromise between price and performance)
3 The CHEAP (the least expensive choice to make the computer increase performance)
I really appreciate all the help I can get from the Community.
    Marco Benvenuto
    P.S.
If by any chance I missed a post that already answered my question, please link it to this one ;-)

I just bought the Crucial M550 CT512M550SSD1!!! Thank you so much for your help
If I could still pick your brain with another question...
    I also have a Mac Pro 2 x 2,26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon, 6 GB 1066 MHz DDR3 ECC, NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 512 MB, OS X 10.9.5 (13F34)
Since there are fast PCI slots available, I was looking to put an SSD in there, but I noticed that the price difference is substantially higher.
I wont need more than 240/256 GB for the MacPro, since I have 2 2TB HDs and some others in there.
My question is: is the performance of the PCI SSDs compared to the regular SDD worth the up-upgrade?
Or should I just get another Crucial M550 (256GB) and put it in the second DVD bay?
I'm thinking to put the RAM on hold for both computers for now, but I probably will get Crucial for both a.s.a.p.

  • Best portable hard drive for MacBook Pro late 2011

Looking for a portable hard drive, 1TB USB 2.0 I think.  I googled the model details below and it said it had USB 2.0
    EtreCheck version: 1.9.12 (48)
    Report generated 2 August 2014 10:06:17 BST
    Hardware Information:
MacBook Pro (13-inch, Late 2011) (Verified)
      MacBook Pro - model: MacBookPro8,1
      1 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5 CPU: 2 cores
      4 GB RAM
Have never backed up before and not too bothered about it being super fast.  Would like to get one for under £50.  Tried looking myself but getting very confused, USB, FireWire ????
    Can anyone help?

USB 3 hard drives will work with your MacBook but only at USB 2 speeds. FireWire 800 is your best option for fast data transfers at this point, unless you want to get a new computer.
    Best of luck.

  • Best SSD for Macbook Pro Early 2011?

It seems the top two contenders are Samsung 840 Pro and Crucial M500.  From a real world perspective, would I even notice the difference between the two as far a speed goes (or any other ones for that matter).  i guess I am just curious if anyone has found other SSD drives that work nicely with the macbook pro, with or without trim enabled.  I know the 840 EVO has issues for whatever reason.  What about the Seagate 600 which does not use Sandforce or Marvell, or other Marvell drives like Sandisk Extreme II or Plextor M5 pro xtreme?
Also, if you could had how long they have lasted and comment on whether there has been any degradation in quality, that would be helpful as well.  Things such as temperature and battery life would be helpful as well.  Most review sites are so focused on Windows, it makes it hard to know.
I've already upgraded my RAM with the Crucial 16gb package and that is working well, and I am just looking to do the one other upgrade that will make this laptop viable for a few more years.

    JasonB824,
I went with the Samsung 840 PRO (with TRIM enabled) for my Mid 2010 MacBook Pro. I haven’t had it for very long, and it’s nowhere near full, so I can’t comment on its long term behavior. I haven’t observed any quality degradation yet, and it does come with a five-year warranty, so it should last a while. I almost always run my MacBook Pro plugged in, so I  can’t comment on differences in battery duration between charges. (Hmmm, why did I reply? ) My MacBook Pro only supports SATA II, but since yours supports SATA III,  you should see the full performance characteristics of whichever SATA III SSD you choose. Unless you’re engaged in heavy-duty disk-bound use, you’ll be unlikely to notice speed differences between your top contenders.

  • Second graphics card (Nvidia) for Macbook Pro (late 2011)?

    Hi,
I have a late 2011 17-inch Macbook Pro, and want to know whether it's possible to fit a second graphics card in there - and if so, where I could find a list of compatible cards.
What I am really aiming for is an Nvidia card with CUDA, since there are various applications I want to use that require CUDA.
If it's not possible to fit a second CUDA card in there, is it possible to replace the current card (AMD Radeon HD 6770M 1024 MB) with an Nvidia one?
    Thanks,
    S

Thanks for such a quick response, albeit not the one I was hoping to hear!

  • Thunderbolt adapter for macbook pro pre 2011?

    Hello,
I have a macbook pro bought in 2009.
There is a shared Thunderbolt display in my studio that I would like to use can I buy an adapter for my cinema screen port so I can use the Thunderbolt?
If not is there an adapter planned by apple?
    Thanks

Your MBP does not have Thunderbolt capability and there is no adapter for that technology.  You will not be able to connect to that display.  Note, this is taken from the Thunderbolt display specifications in the Apple online store:
    Ciao.

  • Need OS disk for macbook pro mid 2010

The hardest part of holding on is letting go. This is how I feel about my MacBook pro mid 2010 edition. I have been having issues with it so I neglected it for some time. I put in a new hard drive and then installed Yosemite. It runs a little slow but works great for Netflix and other non required uses. The problem I am having is that the processor pegs at 100% randomly. I don't see anything under the monitor using the cpu so I am wondering if I have a hardware issue. When I hold down the D key at bootup I thought it would start diagnostics but it doesn't. My research tells me I need to install the original os but I can't find the disk.
    Thoughts?

    Niel,
See if you can help this person: MacBook Pro late 2011 won't start up.

  • How to fix magsafe port Macbook Pro early 2011

For a while I struggled to charge my Macbook Pro, so I decided to buy a new charger. It worked fine for a couple weeks but now it has started to do the same thing. I have to spend like maybe 3-4 min wiggling the charger until it finally starts, and then I  have to keep it perfectly still for it to charge. Recently my macbook stopped charging completely. The magsafe port looks very burned (its kind of black). Also the area around the magsafe port is always HOT, even before the charging issues. How can fix this issue? Is this common for Macbook Pro early 2011 13" ? I don't have apple coverage at this time.

Sean, see if these troubleshooting tips help:Apple Portables: Troubleshooting MagSafe adapters if not, take it to an Apple store genius bar and have the techs check it out.
