My Macbook pro Retina (15 in, fully loaded i7 2.7 16gb 500gb ssd) has been having graphics problems since day one. it kernal paniced today as it has been doing and this was my error:

apple has already replaced my motherboard and they are trying to figure out why this is still happening. i've reformmated the computer several times now!
Could be bad ram also. There is an app called memtest.

MacBook Pro graphics problem on boot
Yesterday my MBP ran out of battery while I was sleeping, so I guess it shut down, or hybernated (whatever). This morning it wouldn't "wake up", so I force shut it down - hold the TURN ON button. However, when I tried to start it again, it never worked. The graphics is all "low res", and I can't see anything. I don't know how to describe this, so I took a few pics of the booting process, and you can see them here:

I tried flushing the ram, taking out the battery... nothing helps.

MBP 15.4", 1.83 GHz, 80 GB @ 5200 RPM Mac OS X (10.4.6) Boot Camp - Win XP Pro SP2I just got my laptop from service. They changed the mother board and the invertor (so I was told).
Apparently, the monitor got messed up due to a faulty invertor - that was sending more power to the LCD than it should have. This is now fixed.
As far as the screen closing improperly - they just ignored the problem with explanation that it can't close properly as its only locking in the middle, and its too wide - but I'm taking it back, as most other laptops i've seen close properly.
The overheating is a gone - now it warms up, but its not even close to what it was before.
The processor idle whine - its also better, although not fully gone (its funny that when I boot windows, its fully gone - it was like this before too tho).
Slowness - I don't see any improvement in speed - maybe if I take out the extra gig of ram that I have installed, it will be better than before the service, but right now there's no improvement.
Conclusion - if its faulty, take it to service. They can fix it, it won't cost a penny, and will be done in 3-5 business days. -

I received a MacBook as a gift a while ago. It was used before it was given to me and using everymac I determined it to be the 2012 15 inch core i7 MacBookPro retina.
Recently my Windows OS on macbook, installed a la bootcamp, started crashing (no blue screen, just hang and reset). I tried re-installing Windows (7 and 8). When I installed Win 8 I had the same problem. Then while installing Win 7, the installer gave me the BSOD (page fault on non-page something error). Then I booted back into Mavericks and it is exhibiting the same behavior. I took it to a computer guru pal of mine and he told me it is probably a fault with the SSD. I have heard of SSD failures on the MacBook Air, but not on the Retina.
What do you think it is and what do you suggest? Is there a tool I can use to detect disk problems or something else to localize the failed component? I do not want to spend $200 on a replacement SSD to find out the RAM is the problem. Also I think the warranty has probably expired.I entered the internet recovery mode after boot, and after it loaded up (the progress bar was filled), I got a message saying my computer restarted because of an error ... press a key to continue (written in a couple of other languages in a gray background). Then I pressed a key, it restarted, showed the classic Apple logo on the gray background, and shortly after the Apple logo turns into a no entry logo and its frozen.
The fact that the progress bar was able to fill before seeing this error message is peculiar. Any more ideas? If the entire SSD is wrecked, do I have to ship the Macbook in for service or can I replace the SSD even though there wont be a recovery partition. If I put in a new SSD, can I install Windows 7 or 8 (I have original ISO images) over a USB stick (no optical drive on this model)? -

Seems to be a problem with brushes in photo editing software. Brushes don't render correctly on screen at certain sizes.
Problems experienced in Aperture, Photoshop and Lightroom.
No problems at all with this software on my 2009 MBA or MBP runnining Lion10.7.1

Any advice or solution much appreciatedProblem still there is 10.7.2. No work around. It makes using Photoshop on a MB Air very difficult. On the Photoshop.com forum (Adobe), they are blaming Apple the the graphics drivers, and disavowing any resposibility.

I document the problem there ... in response to someone asking me about the artifacts problem. I have gone through three MacBooks trying resolve misc. issues, and on my most recent MacBook, I never turne don Secure Virtual Memory is System Preferences, so this is a COMPLETELY different problem.
Anyone have insight on this? I experienced it in 10.4.6, then now in 10.4.7. It seems to be a fix for the artifacts that was instituted in 10.4.7 in response, but it looks like some half-*** bake job by joe-smoe intern working for Apple this summer ....

I spec in with the following:

100GB 7200 RPM Serial-ATA drive (replaced 60GB drive)
1GB of DDR2 (2x512)
the rest is stock.As far as I can tell, the switching from 10.4.6 to 10.4.7 on my MacBook FIXED the artifacts problem, yet created this NEW problem.
So, I did in REVERSE what I would have done in 10.4.6 to fix the artifacts problem, which NOW I'm 10.4.7 and thats.... to turn Secure Virtual Mem. ON in the Security section of the Systems Preferences.
Whatever THAT DID, I fixed my problem. I haven't experienced the problem since about 3 days ago and I use my computer pretty hard-core ... so I WAS going to run into this problem, I would have experienced it by now - I believe.
SO .... no official fix, but it DID seem to resolve my question here.... -

HP Envy 15 Graphics Problem with Windows 8.1 (Intel and NVidia Graphics). Help!
I bought an HP ENVY TouchSmart 15-j013ea about 6 months ago and I have had a major problem with the graphics that I cannot seem to solve. I think it started when I updated to Windows 8.1, even though I am not 100% certain.
I have noticed the following three problems, and I think they are related:
Some windows (such as Chrome, Skype, or even Device Manager or other windows) are very blurry compared to others.
The firefox menu window has some deformed black arrows instead of the normal ones.
When playing a game (specifically, Star Wars the Force Unleashed 2), after a while I get an error that the computer has ran out of memory. However, according to task manager, only about 50% is in use, not to mention that I have 8 GB of RAM + 2 GB graphics memory. At the same time, the computer gets rather loud (like a fan working overtime) and hot.
The laptop has both Intel and NVidia graphics, and both are enabled in Device Manager. To be honest, I have no idea which is used when, or how to check that (let me know if there is a way)
I have tried the following without success:
Uninstalling the Intel graphics driver from device manager and installing a version I downloaded from the HP website for my laptop and OS. After that, Windows would NOT BOOT, and I had to do a system restore.
Uninstalling the Intel graphics from Programs and Features, and installing 2 different versions from the Intel website. Nothing changed.
Updating Nvidia driver through GeForce Experience. Nothing changed.
Updating Intel drivers from Windows Update. Nothing changed.
Quite frankly I am not sure what the problem could be, since the graphics versions are supposed to be compatible with WIndows 8.1. I also don't get why some windows are blurry and others are not. I am thinking the computer uses only the Intel graphics and not the Nvidia (at least in the blurry windows), but even if that was the case (and it shouldn't be), I don't think I should be having this problem.
At this point, I really need help. My graphics details are:
Intel HD Graphics 4600: Driver version: 10.18.10.3412
NVidia GeForce GT 740M: Driver version: 335.23
NVidia GeForce Experience version: 1.8.2

Device Manager and driver windows are also blurry, both graphics are shownI had a similar problem with a Dell laptop. I found the problem was the laptop wanted to switch between the Intel and NYIDIA video cards. It would switch to the Intel when high graphics was not required then to the NIVIDIA when high graphics was required. The laptop does this to save power when high graphics is not required but it caused problems with some applications, specifically high graphics games.
For me the solution was to disable the Intel graphics processor. You can do this by right clicking on your Wallpaper, select the NIVIDIA Control Panel, then select Set Physx Configuration. You will see a dropdown box labeled Select Physx Processor. It is set to Auto by default. This allows the switching I described. Select this dropdown box and select your NIVIDIA processor. This will prevent the laptop from switching and force it to use your NVIDIA processor exclusively.

Help updating ATI graphics driver in bootcamp Windows 8.1 on iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch) with 4 GHz Intel core i7, 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 and AMD Radeon R9 M295x 4096MB
Of note there is a new AMD Catalyst Omega driver released earlier in the week that brings 5K resolution to AMD graphics cards. Here is the link (support.ad.com/en-us/download) to the AMD site. But none of these work with my iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014), Windows 8 bootcamp.

My new MacBook Retina cannot play any videos on any browser. This includes the Apple videos. It keeps saying Missing Plug-In. I am not sure what I am supposed to do. Can someone please help me out?

It's called a dock connector, not a USB port.
i found a product in the online store, that i guess you place the ipod mini on, and it gives you up to 20 or so more hours of time but then it says that you have to have a firewire port or cable?
What is it? The firewire port is on the computer, not the iPod.

1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off merely by the seeming complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the behest of a stranger. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
Paste into the window of another application.
Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "syntax error," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
[Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start Time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
