Help Help with iweb

Hi is there anyone out there that can tell me Y I do not see any photos on an iweb photo page after we publish it??????
Can see em all in the building stage but when it goes out, not a Photo.
Thanks for all your help

Did you back up your Users folder? You blog and other web pages were/are in a file named domain.sites, located in yourusername/library/application support/iWeb.
If you reinstalled without backing up the domain file, it's possible that the domain file was overwritten by an "empty" one.

Yes, a lot of functions are similar. Have been since 1984 with the introduction of Word processing and DTP applications. I consider myself lucky I was around at that time. Now I can apply most of the functions in current day applications.

  • Help with iWeb

I just built my first website with iWeb and am looking for feedback. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

    Hey there,
You have some interesting elements, but the site could use a little work on focusing what reaction and response you are trying to get from your visitors. If the site is intended to be a basic, un-intimidating web based business card, then you could call it a success. If you want to engage your potential customers and clients, you might ask yourself how intriguing is the site to serving the questions in the mind of your clientele visitor. On that side of things, I would say the site needs a little something. I suggest you start by going to http://attentionwizard.com, do a free heat map and read through some of their materials about site attention and effectiveness. I am not affiliated with the people at attentionwizard.com, but I fully believe they know what they are talking about.

  • Help with iWeb gallery

Hi all - this is my first post on here but i've used it for help and pointers with iWeb for some time. I'm just creating a website for my design portfolio and would really like to incorporate a gallery like the one that appears at the following link:
    http://www.arizona-software.ch/photopresenter/screenshots.html
Does anyone know of what this gallery might be called? My knowledge of web design is extremely limited so if someone could let me know their thoughts (phrased 'for dummies') that would be great.
    Many thanks in advance
    Sam

    Yes it does.
By the way, do you plan to publish to .mac.
Iphoto galleries do have that option as one of about three, but the user would have to select it.
If you haven't tired one you might. I think they look quite nice.
There are several different programs that will accomplish that, but if Iphoto will work for you it would be the easiest as it directly interfaces with Iweb.
There is a little freebe called "flash album exporter" that is a plug-in for Iphoto that will do exactly what you want, but you would have to manually upload and link it, which is not really a big deal.
The simple viewer option is about the same as what you saw.
    good luck

  • Help with iWeb single file support

Hi all. I'm trying to make a single file document with html support to use as a cover letter for potential employers, I understand that .mhtml is not supported, is there an alternative so I can combine my entire site into a single file for easy distribution?

Open iWeb and go and publish your site from iWeb to your desktop and you then have one site folder, an index.html file and the assets file. Ditch the index and assets file and then you are just left with one site folder that has everything in it - so for a one page site you will have an index.html file, your one page.html and your one page folder, which contains the CSS for that page.
Burn this one site folder onto a DVD or however you want to distribute the site and both Mac and PC user will be able to open it with Safari, IE etc. As it is an html page it will open in a browser, so PC users will be able to see it.
If you were sharing your site with other Mac users, you could distribute the domain.sites file and other Mac users could then open this with iWeb, but it then depends on what version they have too - if you have made your site with iWeb 09 and they have iWeb 08, then they would not be able to open the domain file, as iWeb is not backward compatible.
Probably best to publish the site and distribute one site folder which everyone can get access to.

  • Help with iWeb locked up

Made a mistake and tried to drag files to iWeb.......now I just get an error message and when I click OK......it shuts down iWeb with the same message when I restart iWeb.
    Message = "Can’t open file “~/Desktop/AubracWebsiteFiles/All_About_The_Beef_files.”
    Any help would be appreciated!

Double-click the domain files as instructed.
Or remove the file you tried to open in iWeb earlier.
Then iWeb will prompt for the domain file.
    Or use iWebSites :

  • Help with iWeb page...

    Hello out there in Cyberland...
I need some assistance...My Site (which was created in iWeb 3) does not completely work in Safari but works like a charm in Chrome. My Blog Page "Projects" will load ocassionally but if you go back to it after viewing another page...all of the entries have dissappeared!!! I switched Safari to 32 bit thinking this would help...no dice...please assist me if you can. I have also tried to update the Blog.js and have emptied the Safari Cache many times...all to no avail.
    My site is   www.kmpstudioproductions.com
    I am running Safari 6  on  Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 (11E53)
    Please ADVISE!!!
    Thanks
    KMP Studio Productions

Your site still works OK for me in Safari.
Reset Safari, quit, relaunch and then enter your website URL with a ? at the end of it.
So many people test their iWeb sites in Safari and there is hardly much point in doing so...
For testing local files, you should either set Firefox as your default browser or Chrome if you publish the files to your local server.
I have had problems with Safari 6 not clearing the cache properly. If you really make it jump through hoops it spins its wheels and locks up.
It is such a piece of c*#p I don't hardly use it all now and, judging by the above stats, neither does anybody else! Worry about IE instead.

  • Need Help With iWeb Haloscan Comments

I posted an earlier question on how to get the blog comments to work for my iWeb site. As it turns out, the reason I couldnt get them to work anymore is because I changed the actual blog format; i.e. I added extra html. I think this was the problem.
Someone suggested that I use Haloscan comments on my site instead, a suggestion which I've heard a number of times. I'm not familiar however with Haloscan comments or how they work.
Is there anyone here who's familiar with how they work, and could walk me through it step-by-step?
I promise that I'm an educated person! Nevertheless, I apologize that I'm so dumb when it comes to getting these ridiculous comments to work.
Thanks everyone for all the help!

    Hi,
    1. You basically go to the haloscan site and set up a free account. There are a number of customizations but don't worry about that now....you can go back later once you get more familiar w/ what you are doing.
    http://www.haloscan.com/
    2. Get iComment as Varkgirl suggested.
    http://web.mac.com/cbrantly/iWeb/Software/iComment.html
The iComment page will give instructions on how to install the haloscan. But the gist is:
    a. Make a textbox on your page and place the word "InsertCommentsHere" but leave off the quotation marks.
    b. publish your site.
    c. open iComment. A dialogue box will appear...press cancel.
    d. pull down iComment>preferences from the menu
    e. check haloscan area "add comments to my site" and put your Haloscan username in as prompted. Then press OK
    f. Then you will choose which site you want the comments to go....that's it...all done for you iComment makes it very easy.

  • Help with iWeb 09 and ftp publishing please?

I'm using iWeb09 and when I publish my website via ftp, the address it publishes to is my web address, followed by / and the name I gave the website on iWeb.  So its not showing on my actual website.  When I go to visit the website via the successfully published screen, the message I get is the requested url is not found on this server.  Any help please?

Make sure you entered the correct URL in the Publishing Settings page and that you have left the Directory/Path field blank as shown on the first example on this page...

  • Can someone help with iWeb layout question

The layout screen seems to have me working in dimensions that are up and down. In other words, the layout guidelines look much like a 8X11 piece of paper oriented portrait style. When my content gets published, it looks the same when viewed on a computer in which the screen is oriented more "landscape style". The content fills about 1/2 the screen (in the middle). I'm using a plaing back background as the page template and looking at the published site on a 17" screen so that may make it worse.
    Any suggestions?

If you mean you want to create "wider" pages just open inspector >click page tab and set "content width to say 1000 pix for a normal "full page"
If you mean you want to see a wider view while DESIGNING the pag simply open iweb and in the lower right hand corner drag the screen to make it wider
    hope that helps:)

  • Help with iWeb for reader comments.

How do I create a place for reader comment/blogs on my site? I use iWeb.

If you're hosting your iWeb blog on a non-MobileMe server you'll lose the following features:
Features Unavailable When Publishing to a 3rd Party Server:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
Currently if the site is published directly from iWeb to the 3rd party server the RSS feed and slideshow subscription features will work. However, if the site is first published to a folder on the hard drive and then uploaded to the sever with a 3rd party FTP client those two feature will be broken.
You can add 3rd party commenting to your iWeb blog with one of these; DISQUS,  IntenseDebate or  Echo. Or, if you're just starting out with a new blog use one of the established blogging sites and embed it into one of your iWeb pages as in this demo page: Embed a Site Within an iWeb Page

  • Looking for help with iweb...

i recently got iweb 08 and have been trying to get a few things to work...
first of all, is there a way to put adsense ad's into text boxes (and then use word wrap), also, ive noticed that what ive done in the meantime is to create a box inside my textbox and then wordwrap around that box, then put my adsense over that box, only problem is that the adsense ads are not displaying in the correct position when people visit my site (they appear to be about 20 or so pixels too high)
second, is there a way to setup iweb's layout so that every time i create a new blog post it puts ads in for me?

  • Help with iweb website

I have created a website using iweb and when you google search my website it shows the live website and an old out of date version - how do I remove this old version?

Use the Robots.txt file. Info at the bottom of this page....
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/Search-Engine-Optimization/Sitemap.html
You can also put a redirect on the old site pages to forward visitors to an equivalent page of the new site. Put this code in an HTML Snippet on each page of your old site....
    <script type="text/javascript">
parent.window.location = "URL TO EQUIVALENT PAGE ON THE NEW SITE"; </script>
    This is Google's solution....
Removing an entire directory or site
In order for a directory or site-wide removal to be successful, the directory or site must bedisallowed in the site's robots.txt file. For example, in order to remove the http://www.example.com/secret/ directory, your robots.txt file would need to include:
       User-agent: *
       Disallow: /secret/
It isn't enough for the root of the directory to return a 404 status code, because it's possible for a directory to return a 404 but still serve out files underneath it. Using robots.txt to block a directory (or an entire site) ensures that all the URLs under that directory (or site) are blocked as well. You can test whether a directory has been blocked correctly using either the Fetch as Googlebot orTest robots.txt features in Webmaster Tools.
Only verified owners of a site can request removal of an entire site or directory in Webmaster Tools. To request removal of a directory or site, click on the site in question, then go to Site configuration > Crawler access > Remove URL. If you enter the root of your site as the URL you want to remove, you'll be asked to confirm that you want to remove the entire site. If you enter a subdirectory, select the "Remove directory" option from the drop-down menu.
    .... from THIS PAGE
You should also have a look at this Google page about Requesting removal of content from our index.

  • Help with iweb.. opening old site on new computer

I made a iweb website on my old computer, i transfered files to my new computer's hardrive but it wont open in iweb. all saved as files html and opens the page on the web. how do i get the new version of iweb to recognize these files so i can make edits?

The short answer is that you don't and you can't.  You have actually saved the wrong files, because iWeb has no import facility, so is unable to open html files at all.
The files that will have been saved and which you need to transfer are the domain.sites files and these can be found under your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites.  Ensure that you do look in your User/Library and NOT your System Library, because iWeb is not there.
Find your domain.sites files and transfer these to your new Mac and then double click on the files to open them.
Have a look at other discussions for instructions on how to make your User Library file visible in both Lion and Mountain Lion.

  • Working with iweb and ATT webhosting

I made my business website on iweb and downloaded it through FTP to my att webhosting site because it was simple and easy through iweb's step by step process.
I'm new at website building and don't even understand the lingo when trying to read these blogs for more insight.
I want to build beyond the basics such as adding meta tags and checking my site hits but I'm not sure if I do it through my webhosting account or through iweb.
Anyone know where to go to find help how to work these two programs together?
Apple tech only help with iweb and most of the ATT tech don't know how to work iweb so it's hit or miss when talking to them depending on who answers your call.

To add meta tags to your site you need to do this in your site directly, but your published site so that it is added to the html code.
Download a programme called iWebSEO. Go to iWeb and publish your site to a local folder and then open your published site with iWebSEO and add the tags, Google analytics etc., and anything else you want. Then use either iWebSEO to upload to your server or use a dedicated ftp client such as Cyberduck to do this - it can be downloaded for free from the internet.
You can easily place a hit counter on your site by inserting the code into an html snippet on your site. Do a Google search for hit counters and you will have lots of choices.
