Assuming your question is so...
To turn the instrument power OFF, you should look for the GPIB command that can do this in the instrument's operation manual.
To turn the instrument power ON, it is very difficult or almost impossible to do so, because your app program will have no way to communicate with your "unpowered" instrument.

Ipod versus itunes - help, how can i avoid throwing my ipod against the wal

hi there
i have recently splashed out and bought an ipod video. i was told it is user friendly - but how wrong was that? tried the website but the help is useless to me, then i sent numerous emails to ipod support without response.
i have squillions of problems with this thing, but my main prob at the moment is that i have more than 12000 songs in itunes and the ipod synchronizes each time i connect but i can't get more than 400 songs onto the ipod and the worst thing is most of those songs are crap.
i am really angry with this machine, can anyone help me?

When your library is larger than the capacity of your iPod, iTunes by default makes a new playlist called something along the lines of "Owner's iPod" and sets the update option to 'Sync Music - Selected playlists'. It creates a playlist of randomly chosen songs, if you don't like it's choice you can make a playlist of your own to sync from.
Open iTunes and create a playlist to update your iPod from, call it -iPod to make it the first playlist in Sources. Drag whatever content you want to have into the playlist from your iTunes library. Now connect your iPod and when it appears in the Source list click on the iPod icon to bring up the preference tabs in the main pane. Go to the Music tab and choose Sync Music and the Selected playlists radio button. Choose the playlist you just made from the selection and click Apply. You can also sync from any existing playlists by choosing the same setting, you just need to make sure that the size of the playlists don't exceed the capacity of your iPod:

Something to remember about using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device. One last thing, the advertised song capacity of any of the iPods is a calculation based on 4 minute songs encoded in AAC format at a bit rate of 128 kbps. If for example you imported full size, uncompressed CD files (AIFF format) you would get significantly fewer on. What format are the songs you have imported? How can I copy about 2000 photos off the Ipad 4?

A friend has a 16gb Ipad 4 which now shows 800mb free space, due to the fact that it's filled with photos, sitting in Iphoto. He cannot update anything now due to being out of space, so he has asked me to help him move the photos off to another machine and then delete them from the Ipad. He apparently has no other copies of these shots.
After reading dozens of posts about this, it appears to me that there really isn't any coherent method of simply marking and copying photos once they're in Iphoto on the Ipad 4. After connecting it to the Mac via the USB cable, there's not much that is revealed. And viewed from Windows, the DCIM folder which is where we generally expect to find these things shows only 13 photos. Where are the rest of them?
All I have found is that I'll have to use an "external application" to do this; however, installing several of these has led me to being able to only copy the "new pictures" that apparently are on his camera roll. There are only about 13 of these. Another app led me to being able to copy albums, but he only has about 177 of the photos identified as being in an album.
So that leaves the thousands of shots that sit in Iphoto, apparently marooned. Is it really possible that the only way to get these photos is to go though some sort of sync process with itunes or icloud?
Seems fairly clunky to me. I would expect to be able to simply mark a folder, and drag it "somewhere else" rather than going through all the hoops it appears to require to do this.

OSX ML firewall is blocking smtp/imap connection to the server. how can i enable it without turning off the firewall?

With the firewall turned on and with the "block all incoming connections" option untick, I can send email to internal and external addressee. However,
1. Mail clients both from LAN and from outside (WAN connected) could not connect to the mail server. Both SMTP and IMAP could not connect to the server.
2. External MTA (say from google or yahoo MX server) could not connect to the server too.
both of these issues are resolved if I set the firewall to OFF. Is there a workaround without turning this off? appreciate your input/advise..

I've used Mail on Exchange and Gmail with the firewall on for send/recieve on my Mac no problem there.
However, are you asking about the MacServer? If so, you're in the wrong section...
Remember how public-facing systems work, they have to be universally accessible directly or through a DMZ zone in the firewall/gateway. This means the firewall/gateway has to be upstream from the server, not directly on the server.
Also, check your DNS settings on the computers and server both inside and outside the network.

How can I prevent Firefox from cutting off the title of a webpage for use as a file name when printing/saving as PDF if there's a / in it?

Like it says in the question - when I try to print/save a webpage as a PDF, Firefox (version 36.0, Windows 8.1 64bit, German) usually uses the page's title as the file name. Slashes are, of course, not allowed in file names, but instead of just leaving leaving it out or replacing it with a hyphen, the title is cut off and everything before the last slash is gone, which in some cases results in very odd and misleading file names.
Is this a known bug? I couldn't find anything. So I'm just wondering if there's either going to be a fix anytime soon, or whether there is a simpler solution than to generate a different title sans slashes specifically for Firefox users.

Help, I can't print a PDF document off the internet.

I have Snow lepoard OS X 10.6.8. When I try and print a document online that is in a PDF format it shows up blank in the print preview screen and prints blank. I have tried opening in Preview and latest version of Adobe reader but the same thing happens.

Select (highlight) the file in Finder and then use the Finder File menu Get Info (or Command I) and in the Open With section of the Get Info choose the application you want to open the file. Another method is to right-click the file in Finder.

If you absolutely must have the Microsoft applications, you can purchase and download them from http://microsoft.com/mac.
Free software suites LibreOffice and OpenOffice offer similar functionality (word processing and spreadsheets).
Or you could do worse than look at Apple's Pages, Numbers and Keynote, which should already be installed in your Mac and can export to Microsoft formats if need be.

I haven't heard it go off in a while and there's a whole lot of heat getting pushed out by case fan. I'm worried about the oncoming summer heat waves; I'd like this machine to last until next year.
How does a little overheating affect system performance?

If you feel a strong movement of hot air being vented out the back by the power supply's fan, at least you know that it's doing its job. With the computer ON, open the side panel and check the larger fan for proper operation. Does it appear to be covered with brown dust? You can use a can of compressed air to blow off the dust, or (preferably) remove the fan (with mounting bracket) and clean the individual blades. Placement of the computer affects the fans' capability to freely draw in outside air, as well as exhaust hot air. Make sure that there aren't any obstructions to either. Fans can eventually slow down or stop turning, as their magnetic field weakens. When the power supply fans slows down to the point that the supply gets too hot, the thermal trip will turn OFF the computer. The larger case fan doesn't cause the computer to shut down, when it starts to fail. If replacement is needed, you should replace them with ones having better CFM ratings and lower noise levels than the originals. Additionally, you could remove the processor's heat sink and use alcohol to remove the residual thermal compound from the processor and sink (remove the OEM thermal pad on the heat sink - if any). Apply a small amount of a quality thermal compound ("Arctic Silver" or equivalent) to the processor, then reinstall the heat sink, noting the proper orientation of the retainer clip. When installed correctly, its offset pressure point should be directly above the processor.

Force Quit will not respond
When the freeze occurs the cursor will move, but not activate any application
The only way to restore activity is to turn off MacBook with power button
I do not like doing this, and am happy that so far Time Machine has not stopped functioning when I turn power back on.

Yesterday my macbook pro freezed again, two times in 20 minutes!!!

Pls help - How can I add a typekit font to muse?

As Muse doesn't come with all typekit fonts already included in the dropdown list of webfonts, I'd like to know how I can add a typekit font to the dropdown menu so I can use it for my website. I have Adobe creative cloud membership.
I've searched the whole of the web and can't find anything about this at all - only about adding one of the existing muse typekit fonts which I already know how to do.
Why doesn't Adobe include all typekit fonts with Muse when you're already a full creative cloud subscriber?
