Help! How do I open an imovie6 "My Great Movie" file in imovie '09?

I copied the "My Great Movie" file from an OS10.4 mac (which has the imovie6) over to an OS10.6 Snow Leopard mac which has the imovie '09. It seemed to have created an entire My Great Movie folder now. There is now no longer just a single My Great Movie file to open. What do I do? Shouldn't the imovie6 file be recognized by imovie '09?
thanks for any insight!

Looks like doing everything in the older version makes more sense (but not from a logistical stand-point c'mon APPLE!). Anyway, is there a way to "replace" photos that are currently in a timeline (in iMovie 06)? I looks like I only have the option to delete a current photo in the timeline and the replace it with the new one that I want to put in. There must be some sort of "replace" function somewhere...??? I want to keep all the same transitions, sound track, everything...just replace some photos. The easiest and most efficient way would be to simply "replace" some photos while retaining all the attributes already set. Is this possible?? If so, can you tell me how?

  • Programming help - how to get the read-only state of PDF file is windows explorer preview is ON?

Programming help - how to get the read-only state of PDF file is windows explorer preview is ON?
I'm developing an application where a file is need to be saved as pdf. But, if there is already a pdf file with same name in the specified directory, I wish to overwrite it. And in the overwrite case, read-only files should not be overwritten. If the duplicate(old) file is opened in windows (Win7) explorer preview, it is write protected. So, it should not be overwritten. I tried to get the '
FILE_ATTRIBUTE_READONLY' using MS API 'GetFileAttributes', but it didn't succeed. How Adobe marks the file as read-only for preview? Do I need to check some other attribute of the file?
    Thanks!

Divya - I have done it in the past following these documents. Please read it and try it it will work.
Please read it in the following order since both are a continuation documents for the same purpose (it also contains how to change colors of row dynamically but I didnt do that part I just did the read_only part as your requirement)

How do I open my H&R Block tax files, transferred to my Mac Pro from my PC? I guess they're in Windows format, but I don't know how to convert.

There should be an H&R block format.  Windows or no.
Just like JPEG or MP3 is a format readable by Mac or PC.
The main cause of PC vsWindows files issues is in "text only" files that require "line terminators".  Windows line terminaotrs are <CR><LF>, UNIX is <LF>, Mac can be <CR> or a <LF>.  The text editors that are PC-files-only cannot properly read text lines terminated with <LF> only.

  • How can I open a .mov file with iMovie?

    Hi,
I keep trying to open a .mov file in iMovie and it isn't doing it. Is that not a recognized file extension? Should I convert the video file somehow?
    Thanks!

.mov is just a container for a variety of video codecs, some of which are not recognized by iMovie.  You will need to convert it first with a third party app such as Media Converter (which is free, see:   http://media-converter.sourceforge.net).
Another free app  VideoSpec (see:  http://videospec.free.fr) is useful for identifying all the details of a video clip

  • How do I edit a .mov file in iMovie '09 without losing quality?

    Hi!
Can anyone tell me how to edit .mov files in iMovie '09 without losing quality?
I have perfectly fine looking screen capture video from iShowU. It's 1024x768, 30 fps, Animation compression codec. It's a .mov file that looks great played in the QuickTime player. I can't even tell it's a movie -- it just looks like the screen I captured.
Now, I bring it into iMovie '09, trim the ends, and Export to QuickTime using no compression and the same fps and size. The output quality is noticeably lower than the input quality, which makes no sense to me because I'm telling the export not to compress (and my Preferences are set to "Import HD video as Full-Original Size".
I just want to trim the ends off a video -- maybe combine a couple files -- but without wrecking the quality of the originals. That really doesn't sound like it should be all that hard, but so far, it's been impossible.
    Any pointers are greatly appreciated!!

I've found the answer. On the File/Import/Movies... dialog, uncheck "Optimize Video" even if you have "Full - Original Size" selected. You don't want any optimizations done, even at original size. Then make sure you are exporting at precisely the same size as the original file, which means that under the Export to Quicktime/Options/Video Size dialog you do NOT want to check "Preserve aspect ratio using:" Just use "Custom" size and set your size to exactly what "Get Info" tells you when you view the file in the Finder.
Make sure that Video/Settings is set to Compression Type: None, and that you have the Frame Rate exactly what your original was.
    Hope this helps someone.

consider usage of a diff. editor.. iMovieHD6, you're entitled for a free downlaod at apple.com:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/imovieHD6.html
but IF you're relaxed, opened your mind, follow the bright light, ommmm.. for Events & Stuff:
your intended workflow will add another step of quality-degradition (8mm>>avi>>mp4>>iM08) ..
consider the free tool Mpeg Streamclip www.squared5.com for 'chopping' that 90min beast into pieces..
rename these new chunks, follow advice given on my site:
    http://karsten.schluter.googlepages.com/im08changeeventdate
    there's the manual..

  • I can't open attachments on my iPad 2.  I have downloaded the 8.0.2 software update.  I can't open jpgs, PDFs, docs. or movie files now.

I can't open attachments on my iPad 2t and I can't open jpgs, PDFs, docs. or movie files now.

Obviously, you are talking about the mail app, so force close the mail app and reset your iPad. If that fails, reset all settings.
In order to close apps, you have to drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
When you reset all settings, you will not lose any data, but most of the device settings will have to be entered in the settings app again. Settings>General>Reset>Reset all Settings.

  • Help--How can I open only one java program at one time?

How can I open only one java program(same program) in Windows at one time?

In Java 1.5, you can use the JVM's own monitoring APIs to examine what other JVMs are running on the system, and what applications they're running.
It's general and powerful, but complex. The socket/file/whatever approach is cleaner, and probably more suited to your usage.
Don't bother trying to use the Windows task manager for this sort of thing. You have to write messy native code, and it isn't reliable after all that anyway.

  • How do I open a VERY old (1991) photoshop file?

Probably ancient to most, but still pertinent to me.
I used Photoshop (on the mac) WAY back in the day. Can't remember the version, but back then, Macs had resource forks, finder.dat and stuff like that. I have a file that was amazingly 8mb in size (gigantic back then) - it had layers! And yes, I still have the resource fork files and so on.
Still, I cannot figure out how to open it.
I have other files from that era - photoshop says it does not recognize them, but irfanview (god bless it) opens the simple ones. But it has a header error with this one.
Any idea on how to open ancient files like this? Any resources? I googled, of course, and the standard answer is "photoshop opens all psd files from any version" - well, this is before the mac put "psd" on these files.
    Help? Thoughts?
    Thanks.
P.S. I was able to open it only a few years ago. 5? 7? Time flies, doesn't it. Yes, should have resaved it in a newer format. I know.

If the file is a layered file from photoshop, then it would have to be a psd (photoshop) file as versions before 6 wouldn't save layered files
in anything but the psd (photoshop) format.
On a windows machine if your adding the file extension or using File>OpenAs>PSD that should work on a good photoshop (psd) file, even one from photoshop 3 on an vintage mac, but
since infraview can't even open it, it may well be the file has been corrupted somehow.
On a later mac you should be able to use File>Open, highlight the file in the open dialog and then choose psd.

  • How do I open/view Signal Express Data .tdms files? (Absolutely Brand New User!)

    Hi everyone,
I've inherited this data recording software from a previous engineer and tried it out for the first time the other week. Mind you I have no manuals or help really here, so bear with me that this is probably a very basic question.
I had a set-up using the Labview Signal Express ver.2.5 and NI-USB-6008 monitoring two voltages. I currently want to see the playback of the .tdms files which are located in my C:\Documents and Settings\TechSupport\My Documents\SignalExpress Data\08042009_015232_PM folder (3 files, voltage.tdms, voltage.tdms_index, and voltage_meta). I opened LabVIEW Signal Express and clicked "File", "Import", "Logged Signals From SignalExpress TDMS Files", and go to select the "voltage.tdms" file, but receive the error of "You cannot choose this folder name; a file of that name already exists".
Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks for any and all help (and let the sarcastic comments begin )

Sometimes, selecting current folder instead of open is a valid workaround.
Also, can you identify the program responsible for creating the log data? Are you able to view this data using another progarm like LabVIEW or DIAdem?

    Glenn

  • Can't open .mov files for iMovie editing; can't even view in QuickTime, etc

Our band recently had a videographer record our performance using two panasonic hd cameras: AG-HVX200 and HPX170. Both were set to hd 720 X (?) at 30 fps.
All files were saved as .mov files.
We can't see them at all. We were told that they were designed to be opened in Final Cut Pro (which we told him not to do).
We do have Final Cut Express, but neither FCE nor iM allows us to select the files ("grey'ed" out).
Can someone please help us understand how to open these files? Do we need a specific codec?
    Thanks much.

I am no expert on DVC Pro HD, but here is what I found out.
    HD compression format by Panasonic.
Similar compression type to DV 25 but uses a higher bit rate up to 100 Mbit/sec,  depending on
the specific HD format being recorded. Highly popular format because of its lowe r bit rates, and
incredible resolution considering how highly compressed the format is.
This format is very popular as an acquisition format used with Panasonic's Varic am camera as well>as several Panasonic cameras that record to P2 card systems. A lso used heavily to convert higher->end HD formats into a high quality offline e diting format. Uses component recording, DCT
compression at approx. 7:1 (intraframe), 4:2:2 color sampling, 8->bit depth and  up to 8 audio channels.
    1080 formats record at 1280x1080, 720 formats record at 960x720. At 1080p, frame  rates include>23.98, 24, 25 fps. At 1080i, frame rates include 25, 29.97, 30 fp s. At 720p, frame rates include
    23.98, 24, 25, 29.97, 30, 59.94, 60 fps.

I agree that you want AIC not DV. AIC is a 4:2:0 codec so you will lose some quality, but it is your best option without buying FCP.

  • Can't open Sony HDR-SR8e movie files with iMovie 08

Has anyone had any success importing movies shot in HD on the Sony SR8e and then importing them into iMovie 08? I can see the files there, but they are all greyed out as if they are not compatible. I've imported them on a seperate PC running windows successfully, transfered the files onto memory stick and put them onto my Mac desktop, however iMovie rejects them if you try and drag them in.
Everythings upto date, can anyone help?
    Thanks, Neil

I'd still like to know how to import the files individually as I have loads of existing footage that isn't on the actual camera any more.
MPEG1 files are playback only compatible with QT. Attempting to add/import such files to iMovie, FCE, or FCP applications would normally automatically convert the video to DV compression and lose the audio content. However, iMovie '08 appears to avoid this problem by refusing to drag 'n drop or import such files in the first place. The normal procedure here would be to open your files in an MPEG based third-party application like MPEG Streamclip (free) and convert the files directly to the DV compression format (keeping the audio) which can then be edited in iMovie, FCE, or FCP.
