Help!! How do I unlock my Galaxy S 5?

I just got my phone, and thought the fingerprint security was a great idea - but it didn't read my fingerprint after several hours, and reverted to the backup password, which it also didn't accept.  So now  I have no way to unlock the phone, because I can't get back to the fingerprint screen - the phone is stuck on the backup password screen.  I only get so many tries before the phone resets to factory defaults, and all the information, including apps I have set up, will be gone.  The folks at the store couldn't help.  I'll reset if I have to but would prefer not to lose an afternoon's work.  I figure I can get the fingerprint to work with a little help from an alcohol swipe, but I need to get back to that screen.

I discovered how to save my data, and still unlock the phone!!  I turned off the phone and took out the SD card, which is where the folks at the store had put everything except the calendar (which hadn't been transferred anyway).  Then I put in the wrong password til the phone reset.  Then I just had to put the SD card back in.  Everything except the security reloaded and the phone was back to where it should be.  I gave up on the fingerprint security (although there are fingerprints registered), and my password works.  Thanks to tikibar for your suggestion, even though it didn't work.  I will be communicating with both Android and Verizon about not being able to get back to the fingerprint screen.
