HELP! How to unembed fonts in a fillable form.

I am using the trial version of the Adobe Designer 7.0 on a Dell computer and thinking of purchasing the product. My problem is that I somehow have embedded fonts in the form. I am creating a fillable form to be filled out online but the file size is 511 kb. I have an original form with no fields that is only 11kb. I need to have this form I created in Designer to be MUCH smaller. How can I unembed the fonts? I have SAVED AS - didn't help. Went to Advanced (in Acrobat), PDF Optimizer, Audit Space Usage-didn't work. And File, reduce file size - at that point is where an error message comes up saying "This PDF contains Adobe XML form. Such PDFs cannot be optimized." Help! My trial version will be running out soon.

meg7,
In the Save dialog, there should be an option at the bottom that allows you to un-embed fonts. An additional pointer on fonts:
- Use the following fonts if you can (they are available in Acrobat and Reader, and do not need to be embeded:)
* TimesRoman, TimesBold, TimesItalic, TimesBoldItalic
* Helvetica, HelveticaBold, HelveticaOblique, HelveticaBoldOblique
* Courier, CourierBold, CourierOblique, CourierBoldOblique
* Symbol, ZapfDingbats

How do I change the color of font in a fillable form in Adobe Reader? How can I check if the writer of the document has given permission to edit color and not just add text? Please help! I'm technologically challenged.

Most forms (99% or more) are created for simple text input, where you cannot change anything.
The creator of the form could allow Rich Text input (which allows you to change font, text size, color, etc.), but frankly I have never seen such a form, and I wouldn't know how they look.  But I'm sure they would show some kind of controls to alter the text appearance.

  • How do I send a PDF fillable form from Adobe Reader Acrobat?

I just installed Adobe Reader in my iPad to send a fillable form but as I sent it out the form is received blank by the recipient.  How do I save the PDF fillable form and send it out with the filled out information.  I am able to save it in Acrobat but for some reason I send the form but the recipient receives it blank.  What can I do?  Thank you for your help.

Your recipient needs to use Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat to reliably view a filled form. Chances are they are using a third-party, substandard PDF reader like Apple Preview. Adobe Reader is a free download; if necessary, you could provide them a link from the Adobe website.

"Adobe" is a company. If you mean "Adobe Reader" then you can't (at least not easily). You need Adobe Acrobat for that.

  • How do i lock my pdf fillable form file

Thank you in advance for any help.
    I have two questions:
    1)  How do I save my fill-able form pdf file as a NON fill-able form so that the saved version cannot be changed?  I have Adobe Acrobat Pro XI for the MAC
    2)  How do I add a page to my pdf file.  When I try to use thumbnails the fill-able pdf file will not accept a page that I scanned as a pdf file?  Could it be that the fill-able pdf file won't accept a non-fill-able page?  I want to scan the signature page back into the document after I have signed it.
I have struggled with these two issues for days!
    Thank you,
    Ben

Those types of forms are static XFA forms created with LiveCycle Designer. They generally can't be edited in Acrobat even if you remove the usage rights. There is a bug in Acrobat 9 that you can take advantage of if you have access to it that will allow you to convert it to an AcroForm that you can then add pages to and convert to a non-fillable PDF.

  • How to save entries in a fillable form

I have created a fillable form using Adobe Acrobat X Pro (I uploaded a form created in Word 2010, and modified it slightly using Adobe X), but users I send the form to are unable to save their entries. How do I allow users to save the information they have entered in the fillable form?
Do recipients of the form have to have a specific version of Adobe in order to save their entries in the fillable form I created using Acrobat X Pro?
Any help would be much appreciated!

Ok! I think I've got the hang of how to edit and distribute the form. I see that Adobe records user responses, is there some way to block this feature?
For my purposes, I really just need to send the fillable form as an email attachment to users, have the users enter and save their responses into the form, and then have them send the modified form back to me as an email attachment.

I have created a form that has approximately 70 check boxes.  The fillable form is showing them as text boxes.  Is there an easy way to convert them to check boxes without having to create new fields for each entry?

  • How to unembed fonts

For many years I have been preparing 4 page Word documents for electronic distribution on a weekly basis, (around 90kb in Word down to 40 kb pdf). In light of problems with Acrobat 8 and Snow leopard, I had to upgrade to CS4. Imagine my annoyance when, using my regular customised setting, I generated my first 4 page word document in Acrobat 9 and got a file size bigger (233 kb) than if I had used apple's pdf generator (176 kb). I generated a pdf using print to post script and I tried optimising, and still ended up with files of around 140kb still much bigger than the original word document.
It's like Acrobat 6 all over again (I have been using acrobat).  I went back to using acrobat 5 then in disgust, but don't seem to have that option now.
My usual settings are save as Acrobat 7 at 300dpi, no fonts embedded, and all advanced options unchecked. As there are no images the settings there aren't relevant. It seems as if the fonts are embedded even though
Any idea as to what is causing this, and how I can get back to the previous file size?
(later) I just tried save as pdf with fonts embedded and got exactly the same size. So the question now becomes how do I unembed the fonts?

Now this is getting interesting. I followed your recipe for optimising and got the 130kb result again.
I think the problem may lie in the fact that I used customised settings to create the original pdf. What 's interesting is that in that customised setting I have turned font embedding off, yet they reappear in the optimiser, and you were able to get rid of them whereas I can't seem to. I have attached a pic showing the setting.
Exactly the same fonts appeared in my optimiser as in your screen dump.
What default setting did you use to begin with? I'll start afresh with that and see what that generates.
The image is the tibetan printing at the top. If I remember I created a pdf of the original tibetan which I imported into the word template I use. The base font apart from the occasional helvetica heading is book antiqua. I am not sure where the hidden layer exists in the template.
Thanks for taking the time to help me out. The fact that you can do it and I can't is really going to help to resolve the problem.
    regards
    Adair
    Later....
How very interesting! using the default 'save as smallest size' option and customising it to 300dpi  and then optimising on the lines you suggested gave me a 61kb file.
Then I went back in and changed the customised setting to 'never embed' the specific fonts I was using and generated a postscript file which then distilled down to 45 kb, without any need to optimise. Still two-step but probably more elegant, albeit a return to the old days when that was the only way. Also there was no need to modify the file name using that technique.
The really interesting bit was when I did a straight 'save as adobe pdf' with the above customised settings and the fonts embedded themselves, even though they did not when I went through the postscript route. Optimised that down to 61kb too.
Looks like a bug with reading the settings to me!  Plus my original customised setting didn't agree with the acrobat 9 protocols. So problem solved in a sense.
Once again thanks for your help.
It seems very strange that the

  • Fonts within a fillable form

I have a form that I have made fillable, however somewhere on the form is a font that isn't embedded. When I click thru all the text they all say they are embedded, but the document properties has two that aren't embedded. Is there an easy way to find the font to embed it, or somehow embed it without losing all my fillable fields and accessibility?
    Thank you.

    Hi,
Could you please let us know how do you create this drop down menu?
If you add a drop-down list control from Developer > Controls, it may be difficult to realize the second requirement.
Or you can add a ComboBox in User Form. You can use VBA to make a subquestion appear, when a user select one of 2 of the 5 options.
If you want to get further information about VBA, you can post it in MSDN forum.

  • How can I compress a large fillable form with extended rights?

    Hello:
I have about 15 fillable PDF s that I created in LiveCycle ES2. One form is 37,616 kb and takes forever to download from the web. I attempted to zip the file, but when I tested it, text could no longer be saved after it was unzipped (the forms have extended rights as users need to be able to enter in a save text they enter into it). Does anyone have any suggestions re: how I might be able to compress my PDF file, while still being able to maintain the ability to enable savable text (extended rights)?

Just tried it here and it worked fine ....are you sure you zipped the Reader Extended version of the form?

What steps do i need to take in order to merge excel data into my form. I'm currently looking into pulling the following fields from excell and merge them into my form:
    Employee name
    Employee ID#
    Position Title
    Supervisor
I been browsing around LiveCycle Designer and haven't stumble upon this feature yet.
Thank you for your time and really looking for some help out there.
Edit:   I want to create 600 records containing the information above out of my one form. That way i don't have to sit here and do i form for each employee one at the time.

    Good afternoon Mr. Niall,
Well i already created the XML file so that is ready to go, just been trying to figure out how execute a merge and create 600 records one for each employee.
I was looking into exporting the PDF file into word and that way i could execute this merge much more easily but i don't think i have the capabilities to do so.

  • How can I export multiple PDF fillable forms into a spreadsheet (Excel) using VBA?

    Hi guys,
I never used VBA with with Adobe Acrobat. I would like a tip to start doing that. What I would like to do know is:
1 - I have multiple PDF Forms that are filled.
2 - I want all the data from those forms to be exported to Excel via VBA code.
3 - Adobe Acrobat already have an option to do that manually (Forms > Merge Data Files Into Spreadsheet) and it works perfectly.
4 - I would like to access that feature using VBA, then generate a spreadsheet.
Any tips? How can I start?
    Thanks!
