Help! HP B1980 printer settings....

I have read books from both Scott Kelby as well as Martin Evening. Evening talks about a short paragraph on using this printer....
He suggests using "Managed by Printer" and using "ColorSync" in print settings and leave it at that. The printer is supposed to know and understands all paper profiles....
Is this what you use? If i wanted to print on my old epson using the Museo Silver Rag, i just had to select the right profile, and disable the "ColorSync" settings in the print settings dialog.
However, the HP print settings offer no such thing...(I use a Mac). How do you do this?
Any help/tips appreciated.
-Umesh
PS: I have posted the question in Luminous Landscape as well....

In the Print "panel" (in LR), at the very bottom (scroll), is the color management settings. Set Profile to "other" and it will all fall into place from there.

  • Help with Photoshop Print Settings?  Please-I need this Before Tommorow!

Omfg, this is driving me up the wall. Does anybody have a solution as to why every single time I try to edit the photoshop page setup settings and click OK, it resets everything I adjusted and replaces it with the defaults.
    Somebody, please help me!

Are you looking at the settings for different documents?  The print settings are stored with the document now.
So, for example, if you open Document A and change its print settings, they should stay set for Document A.
But, if you then open Document B, you'll see the print settings that were originally saved with Document B.

  • Help needed with printer settings for wired ethernet connection

I'm hoping someone can help me with a network printing issue. I have a large format color laser printer (Tektronix Phaser) and since moving to OS 10.6 I can't figure out how to configure the printer so that the system sees it. I have a simple wired ethernet network with a couple of Macs and a couple of printers. All devices are connected via a switch. When using earlier OSs I was able to connect to the Phaser using Ethertalk. Obviously this is no longer supported and I can't figure out how to set the printer so the OS can see it. I have lots of options which can be turned on or off and in some cases set up in other ways: Ethertalk, IPX, Netware, TCP/IP, DNS, LPR, HTTP and remote internet printing, I've tried messing with these but the result is always the same--system doesn't see the printer. Currently Ethertalk is on, IPX and Netware are off, TCP/IP is on, DNS and LPR are on, as are AppSocket, HTTP, FTP and remote internet printing. I can change the IP address but no matter what address I've tried I cannot ping the printer. (I'm using a Gutenprint driver for this printer.)
I don't really know enough about all this to get anywhere and I haven't been able to find help anywhere even from tech friends. Xerox won't help me and neither will Apple. Any help would be appreciated. I can supply more detail on specifics where necessary. Thanks, Bob

Old Phaser models may becoming more and more difficult to use, but you can give this a try.
    1. Configure the printer via front panel to use TCP/IP and enable DHCP if it's supported. If not then you will need to configure an IP address for the printer together with your local network's mask, and gateway IP address. Except for the first the others will be provided by opening Network preferences to see what those settings are. The printer's IP address needs to be set somewhere within the range of IP addresses your router provides locally.
    2. You need the PPD file required for your printer. If you have the Phaser driver installer you can use it to install the PPD or you can extract the specific PPD from the installer package. This part is tricky because I don't know where you may find the driver now if you don't have the installer. The older installers can be accessed through the Finder by selecting the package then CTRL- or RIGHT-click and select Show Package Contents from the contextual menu. You can then rummage through the package to search for the PPD for your printer. Then navigate to the /Library/Printers/PPD/Contents/Resources/ folder and drop the PPD file inside.
    3. Open Print & Fax preferences and click on Add [+] to add a new printer. Click on the IP icon in the toolbar. Select Line Printer Daemon - LPD from the Protocol drop down menu. Input the IP address you assigned the printer in the Address field. You can file in the optional fields that follow. Then from the Print Using drop down menu locate the listing for your printer and select it.

  • Any printer UI for change printer settings?

Since Solaris 10's printing system is powered by PPD files. (at least for some printers). I suppose I can access all features PPD file provide: Change page size, input-tray, output-tray, color-mode, etc.
Is there a GUI that comes with Solaris that can help me change printer settings? (The printer manager is useless)
How do I tell what command line option a PPD file provides? (Yes, I can write my own script to parse the PPD file for OpenUI, CloseUI), but what's Sun's solution for it?

    /usr/sadm/admin/bin/printmgr &
Don't ask me why it's in a weird location.
It's the Best GUI In The World -
gives you the option of a console

    doing on the command-line in
    response to your button-clicks.
    Dunno about the PPDs.
    cheers.

  • Help with print settings for Panoramas

    Hi,
I use an Epson 2880 and I am trying to figure out the print settings for doing an 11 x 34in panorama print on 13" roll paper from Aperture 3.0.3. I finally got it to do one print properly, but the setup was totally counter intuitive and I can't reproduce it. I tried using "Custom" Paper size and setting it to 13" x 36", then using the landscape mode and setting the Image Size to 11 x 34". Any way I did this ended up with the image printing the wrong way on the paper. So I went back and picked "Roll" paper. This leaves only one field to fill in, which I presume is the paper width (it really didn't make this obvious in the dialogue.). Then I set the mode to Portrait, and made sure that the settings for the Image size were 11 x 34. It then printed fine. But when I went back to print another file, even though I had saved the settings, now I am presented with only one box for specifying the Image Size and there is no way to get it right again. HELP! The settings for this kind of print in Photoshop is also counterintuitive, but when you get it set right, and you know the settings, no problem reproducing it. I think maybe there is a bug in AP3 with regard to this sort of setup.

  • Help needed on Dot Matrix Printer Settings

    Hi all,
We have a requirement to print some documents on a dot matrix printer.
I have created a device choosing SWIN as the device type & also assigned my Z page formats to this device type.
But printing with this device type takes a long time. So, to reduce the time, if I choose any one among  EPESCP/EPESCP2/EPESCP9/EPLQ550 etc as my device types, the printing gets fast, but the quality of the output is very bad ( its getting printed with a single font though I change the font & its size). Moreover the lines are not getting printed at the desired place on the page.
We are using a printer(TVS) which is Epson 24 Pin compatible.
Kindly help us if someone has any idea on this kind of printer settings.
    Thanks & regards,
    JITHENDRA

    Try OKI341 instead of SWIN.
It seems a bit more forgiving.

  • Lost Epson print settings in CS5. Help

When I initiate a print in CS4, I get the Epson options to choose paper settings, etc. In CS5, the file just starts to print. When I click on the button that says Print Settings, nothing happens. I have both CS4 and CS5 still on my computer so I am working in 5 and then printing in 4. Surely there is a fix for this???? Thanks!

In CS5, the "Print Settings" button has replaced "Page Setup". Click on it before clicking print. If you don't, it'll use the previously used settings.
If "nothing happens" when clicking the "Print Settings" button, try switching printers or try switching from "Photoshop Manages Colors" to "Printer Manages Colors" (or vice-versa). If all else fails, relaunch Photoshop while holding the command, control, shift and option keys (one of them may not be needed, but I can never remember which, so I just mash them all) to delete the application preferences.

  • Help... Print Settings Won't Open

In order to get to the ABW printing mode, I need to have "Printer Manages Colors" selected for "Color Handeling".  Then when I click on "Print Settings" I get the normal "Print" box that comes up where I have access to normal "Print Settings" options, one of which is "ABW" under "Print Mode".  And this has been working fine.  Then all of a sudden today, when I enable "Printer Manages Colors" and I click "Print Settings" nothing happens.  No new dialog box opens to the "Print" options as it usual does.  Nothing pops up.  If I switch color handling back to "Photoshop Manages Colors" and click on the "Print Settings" the box opens up as normal… but now of course the ABW option is greyed out.
I tried reinstalling the printer driver (Epson 3880)… but it's not related to the driver since it happens on multiple printers (HP & Epson).  This is a problem within Photoshop.  To make sure I'm not crazy, I tried it on another computer and it works as expected.
What could have caused this and how do I fix it?
PS and OSX are on their current versions (12.0,.4 and 10.7.3 respectively)

Ok, this is crazy... So, I moved the image I wanted to print over to my laptop.
I opened it in Photoshop on my laptop... where I had JUST confirmed that everything worked... and now the same thing is happening on the laptop.  So, I then switched to a different user on the laptop and opened Photoshop and was able to bring up the "Print Settings" box as normal.  Then, I opened the image in this users Photoshop and IT STOPPED WORKING!
How is it possible that an image can effect this?
There is nothing special about this image... it is tiff generated by Aperture from an iPhone photo.  There is nothing out of the ordinary.
And now, none of these instances of Photoshop will bring up the "Print Settings" box when color handeling is set to "Printer Manages Colors"... on ANY image. If I close out Photoshop, reboot my computer and relaunch Photoshop never even opening the image that started it, it no longer works.
    WTF?
    Update:
Ok, so I deleted all the Adobe PS related files in the Library->Preferences folder.  I reopend photoshop with another image and was able to get to the "Print Settings" box with "Printer Manage Color" enabled.  I then opened the tif I was planning on printing and sure enough, it no longer works.  So I delete the Adobe PS related files again.  However, before I did this I flattened the tif and saved it as a jpg (using Save For Web).  And now when I open that image I can get to the "Print Settings" box fine.
So, it looks like it was that tif that was causing the problem... but:
    a.  Why would it cause the problem since there is nothing (apparent) different than other images I've taken on the iPhone, processed in Aperture and then printed?
    b. Why would it cause a problem so that Photoshop is effected even when that image isn't open?
    c. Which preferences files exactly was the one that caused it (I deleted everything related to "Adobe" in the preferences folder... there are far too many to test one by one).
    Update 2:
Just to make sure, I opened another tif processed the same way in Aperture taken from the same iPhone and had no problem.

  • Help!  I cannot access "printer settings" dialogue...

For some reason, when trying to print with my Epson 3880, the print dialogue pulldown menu does not have a "printer settings" menu available.  Weirdly enough, it shows up for my Artisan 810.  Anyone have any suggestions?

Go to Settings>General>Restrictions. Do you have restrictions on? If so, that would prevent you from making changes in some areas of the iPhone.

  • Help, my print settings are so messed up. How can I return all to the orginal default settings?

Can anyone tell me how to return all my print settings to original default?

To downgrade to Firefox 3.6 first uninstall Firefox 4, but do not select the option to "Remove my Firefox personal data". If you select that option it will delete your bookmarks, passwords and other user data.
You can then install the latest version of Firefox 3.6 available from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html - it will automatically use your current bookmarks, passwords etc.
To avoid possible problems with downgrading, I recommend going to your profile folder and deleting the following files if they exist - extensions.cache, extensions.rdf, extensions.ini, extensions.sqlite and localstore.rdf. Deleting these files will force Firefox to rebuild the list of installed extensions, checking their compatibility, and reset toolbar customizations.
For details of how to find your profile folder see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Profiles

  • Don't have printer settings for Epson CX9400fax since upgrading to SL

I recently upgrade my operating system from Tiger to Snow Leopard (after a HD crash). I have an Epson CX9400fax all-in-one machine and I am able to print, but I no longer have the Printer Settings options as before - where you can change paper, ink, etc. I'm trying to print from Photoshop CS5, if that's relevant at all.
This is what I am looking for:
    tons of options/setting to adjust
And this is what I have now:
    basically just print.
    Here's the driver info:
Is this something on Epson's end that hasn't been updated yet?
I've looked around, both here and online and haven't really got anywhere. If ANYONE can help, I will be very appreciative.
Oh, and I'm a first-timer so please be nice :0)

    Hi,
Welcome to Apple Discussions. I had the same problem with my Epson printer and solved it by going to Apple Support [here|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4169]. You can rearrange your printer settings using CUPS from there. Also, click on the triangle to the right of the Printer Name window to get an expanded menu.
Good luck and a Merry Christmas.

  • How can I delete all printer settings?

This was not always the case, but I've been having problems lately getting good prints from a HP PhotoSmart Pro B9180 from my Mac Pro since I installed Photoshop CS5. The printing problems - washed-out colors, especially reds- also happened with older versions of Photoshop, so it may not be the app that's causing this. I uninstalled, then reinstalled the HP drivers but the uninstall didn't delete all the settings accumulated over several years of printing. After lots of lousy test prints using different settings, I decided to try printing from another Mac that has never used this printer before. The prints came out right when printed with Photoshop CS1, which has a simpler print dialog than the later versions. By CS5, it has so many variables that it was hard to figure out which settings are affecting the quality.
I also tried printing the same file from Preview to rule out Photoshop as the cause. It was somewhat better but not as good as the print from CS 1 on the laptop.
I'm just trying to start with a clean slate to eliminate some of the variables that may be causing the print quality problems.
Where is the file or files that contain the list of saved printer settings? I looked in the User Library and its Prefs folder but discarding the HP Printer prefs file didn't delete the settings.

It seems to me that you’re having problems concerning colour management/profiles. In that case I’m not of much help. But you can try to reset the printing system of OS X and afterwards install your printer driver again. To reset the printing system open System Preferences/Print & Fax and right-click somewhere on the white space underneath your listed printers.

  • Can someone please help me with printing?

Let me preface by saying that I've been using Aperture since 1.5 came out, taken Aperture seminars and became a "Certified Aperture Guy" as defined by Apple, read the books, listened to all the podcasts, belong to AUPN, and posted here, etc. etc. So I THINK I know the basics (god, I hope I do), but yet I cannot get printing to come out right to save my life...BUT IT COMES OUT RIGHT WHEN I PRINT FROM PSE 6 or iPhoto...ARGHH! Why? A million times, Why?
The scoop: I use the HP B9180 printer, calibrate my monitor with Spyder 3, correctly set up the print settings with "Application Managed Colors" and so on. I use the paper/ICC profiles for that printer. I soft-proof in Aperture for that paper I will print on. And yet... there is always something not right. Today it was a purplish/cyan color cast. Yesterday the print colors turned out very unlike the ones on my 24" iMac monitor. They might be too dark, too washed out, less saturated than what I had on the display, etc. I even had poor results when I ordered prints through Aperture -- very washed out, bland. Tested printer...fine. Inks full and test page is perfect.
I'm wasting paper, and asking questions all the time. And I'm really getting fried on this.
The kicker is that my prints come out pretty darn good from iPhoto, Photoshop Elements 6, or when I let the B9180 control the colors instead of Aperture. Why? Why can these apps produce very good results (which shows that I must understand SOMETHING about this process) but Aperture gives me aerobic exercise from my computer to my printer and back half the night?
I've already asked about in-camera color space settings and have been told by several people to go either sRGB or Adobe RGB because it won't matter since "Aperture takes care of all the color management." But still, I have these printing problems with both spaces.
Would shooting only JPGs and using Aperture produce better results? I shoot RAW right now. Does it matter anyway? Thanks for any help or understanding.
    Jerry

I calibrated my monitor and then I'm given a profile to set it to. I use this calibrated profile for viewing, right?
    Correct.
In a colour matching session irrespective of the ICC-enabled application, the ICC MNTR Monitor profile for the current condition of your digital colour display is the DESTINATION.
In the Apple ColorSync Utility, you will note that peripherals are registered and that registered peripherals have a factory fallback ICC device profile.
A digital colour device can have multiple conditions, for instance, your digital colour display can have different resolution settings and different gamma settings.
When you configure to a condition, you are able to characterise that condition in an ICC device colour profile. In other words, the same hardware is a different colour device for each colour condition.
The ICC colour device profiles for whatever conditions you configure are installed under the factory fallback ICC device profile (the same applies if you have more than one display, for instance).
Note: Your ICC MNTR Monitor profile captures the gamma of the video system in the VCGT Video Card Gamma Tag implemented for ColorSync 2.5 in 1998.
When you subsequently select one of your monitor profiles, the video system is reset to the gamma in that monitor profile.
The ColorSync Team wanted to end the war for the video system caused by conflicting gamma tools that fought for control in the system startup phase.
You are NOT supposed to repeat history by applying a gamma correction at print time in Aperture as in that case the colour appearance is not defined and delimited by your ICC device profiles.
If ten different photography studios using ten different runtime gamma corrections for the same digital original, they will wind up with ten incompatible colour appearances.
Apply a gamma correction atop the ICC colour management system is a lowend solution to the problem of studio lighting. The Profile Connection Space is D50 and a display-to-print viewing condition is supposed to be D50, but if the display is too bright or the lamp that lights the print is too dim then changing the gamma at print time is a lowend solution - but it chaotifies colour communication. A better solution is to learn to set up the studio viewing condition correctly. I posted a link to Joseph Holmes and Andrew Rodney on this forum previously. I don't remember if the Solux workflow recommended there is as per ISO recommendations for viewing conditions, but that's probably also discussed in the link.
If so I noticed in the ColorSync utility that when I compare this monitor's profile to the profiles in my HP ICC list, all the HP profiles are much out of the gamut and shaped significantly different. They barely match up.
Correct, but you've got the technical information I have you wrong. Which isn't really your problem, but rather a problem in the way things worked out in the International Color Consortium.
I told you not to select sRGB, but the sRGB colour space is expressed as an ICC MNTR Monitor profile and therefore appears in the Apple ColorSync Utility alongside your measured monitor profile.
You will find that your measured monitor profile and sRGB are about the same size and shape. The reason is that sRGB is the colour space of HDTV, i.e. a Sony cathode ray tube at 6500 Kelvin.
The difference between your measured monitor profile and sRGB as ICC profile is that sRGB has linearised gray i.e. R%=G%=B% defines gray throughout the colour space.
This is not the case with your measured monitor profile, and since your measured monitor profile is not linear you should not be using it as SOURCE for your digital originals - only for viewing them.
I thought a good calibration and matching the ICC profiles in soft proofing and in print setup is what it took to get a good match.
Correct, but you need to know enough that you can set up colour matching sessions using the right ICC profiles with the right rendering intents, and if you want side-by-side matching across applications you need to be able to configure application settings for compatible assumptions.
And as if that wasn't enough (... -:)) a colour measuring instrument is better than no colour measuring instrument, and a colour measuring instrument that makes fewer assumptions about the device is better than a colour measuring device that makes more device-dependent assumptions.
If memory serves, the Spyder is a colourimeter and not a spectrophotometer. This difference has caused considerable discussion, starting with the X-Rite Monitor Optimizer in the period 1996-2000. A colourimeter makes assumptions about the spectral power distributions.
Previously, colourimeters made assumptions based on cathode ray tubes that did not match the behaviour of red in liquid crystal displays. Presently, it appears that colourimeters are making assumptions about green based on liquid crystal displays that does not match light emitting diode displays (or was it that they carried over crt assumptions, offline flame wars, online flame wars, whatever) but the bottom line is that a spectophotometer is the safer solution.

  • How to change the paper type in printer settings?

Does anyone know how to change the paper type in printer settings?  I'm trying to have the ability to change it to photo paper from Photoshop Elements.  I can't find the option in printer settings or through Elements.  I'm assuming I could save an additional printer setting for photo printing, but can't find how to even select a different paper type.
    thanks!

It would help to know which OS you are running as the answer will be different if it's Lion or the previous OS's. You are not running iOS 5.0.1 on your MacBook Pro so provide the correct information.
