Help! I accidentally deleted a whole genre of songs

Hi there,
I was listined to my Jazz genre in iTunes 11.0.2, and then accidently pressed down some random keys on my keyboard  (upper left corner, so including the delete ket - i'm guessing?) and next thing i know, all my "jazz music is gone!  this is hundred's of albums that were purchase and uploaded by me into my library!  I've searched for the artists names in my library and they are not there - are the missing forever?    I am using iTunes Match. Is there any way to recover them? And is there any way to see what i lost? I have not idea, b/c i was listening to a genre and i don't know what was in that collection.  But even the category "jazz" is missing from the Genre's in Itunes!
I did strop and reload my itunes. And i did check my trash.. but they are not there. Please help!
<3 Cindy

To anyone who might be reading this thread, after some fiddleing I was able to solve the problem:
Here's the steps i did:
1.  I created a new itunes library on my external drive, then the songs sorted by genre, then i knew which songs were missing. I wrote down the names of those albums
2. I then closed itunes, and disconnected my external drive.
3. Then, with my external drive disconnected, I reopened itunes, to my old library (the one connected to itunes match, where the song were missing)
3. Then I reconnected my external drive, and dragged the missing albums into the itunes library that had itunes match.
Problem fixed,
Thanks,
Cindy

  • Deleted a whole genre of music in iTunes

Hi helpers!  I am new to a mac, so I really don't know much, but I must have accidentally deleted a whole genre of music from my iTunes, but I do not see the songs in my trash.  My music was not purchased from itunes, just uploaded from CDs, that I no longer have, its about 300 songs, so I will be sad if they are gone forever.  Any suggestions? Thank you!!

    Hi iheartmyapple,
Well, I see nobody is responding, so I guess I'll have to tell you.
I'm sorry that you may have lost about 300 of your favorite songs; I would be sad too.
Perhaps a higher level community member than I can walk you through using a data recovery tool; assuming the "deleted files" were not overwritten yet. I have no idea how to do that, myself - although I know that sometimes it is theoretically possible to recover files. On the other hand, sometimes it is not.
One thing that I definitely know is If you had a back up plan in place, you would not have lost them.
An external drive for back-ups like the one that I use cost me about $125 for a 750 GB drive. I partitioned it into two 375 GB volumes using Apple's Disc Utility Application. So I have two extra copies of just about everything.
Furthermore, I plan on purchasing a second external drive as soon as I make up my finicky mind about which one to buy. Having two back-up drives is actually what you are supposed to have...some users consider even having two as a minimum, believe it or not.
Sooner or later, anyone without a back-up plan will lose some or all of their data. The question I pose to you is would you consider those 300 songs to be worth more to you than a relatively inexpensive external drive? What about all of the data on your computer?  How about all of your data a year from now?? I think you get the point, so I'll just stop. Sincerely, this isn't fun, having to tell you what I told you.
    Best Regards,
    mm~

  • Help, I accidentally deleted the parent tab set.

I accidentally deleted the parent tab set from my application, and cannot find anyway to create a new one. Has anyone had this problem?
    Oracle - 9.04R2
    ApEx - 2.2.0
    Browser - Firefox
    Thanks,
    Michelle

    Hi Scott,
unfortunately I made a stupid thing, being too smart and updating the FLOWS_020200.wwv_SOMETHING_tabs record, modifying parent tab of the problematic tab to main. Doing that caused the complete application to disappear from the Application builder. I guess some checksums in APEX internal objects were modified and that is the result.
Fortunately I had a recent export of an application, so I didn't loose too much. That also means that I can not help myself with "as of" export.
Could you please just tell if recreating parent tabs is possible by "clicking through apex screens" or should there be some hacking used.

  • Help Please - Accidentally Deleted Private Folder

    Please could someone help.
I have accidentally deleted the Private folder in the root of the HD
    Now OSX will not boot.
The folder is sitting in my Trash folder and I would like from the Boot CD Terminal to copy back from the trash to the Macintosh HD/ location
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Mim

Not quite: If MimUK's account shortname is (for example): mimuk
then it would be within that account's Trash, namely, you'll have to (yes) boot from another volume (not sure this will work booted from CD, but it might), *mount the drive in read+write mode*
ie (possibly requiring sudo, depending on circumstances):
    sudo mount -uw /Volumes/nameOfTheDriveInQuestion
    sudo mv /Users/mimuk/.Trash/private /Volumes/nameOfTheDriveInQuestion/
Moral of this story: don't make hidden folders visible for reasons just such as this
And in any case, don't delete something unless you know full well what it's for.

  • Help! Accidentally deleted Apple id, can't restore iPad

Help! When trying to change the apple id on icloud, I accidentally deleted my sister's apple id, to which my ipad 2 was linked. I have since created my own account, and tried to restore the ipad, but it won't let me because it asks for the password of the previous "owner" of the ipad, and I can't access it because it no longer exists. I am not from the US, and thus can't call to get help.
    Please help me!

Apps are forever tied to the Apple ID that was used to purchase/download them originally. So they will always require that ID to update.
Why did your old Id become unusable?  If it was because the email is no longer functional, you can go to appleid.apple.com to update it, and keep your aple ID functional with a new email address attached to it.

  • HELP! Accidentally Deleted Run!

I've started training for a half marathon & have been using my Nike+ iPod to track runs. I finally got around to calibrating my ipod, & in doing so, I accidentally deleted my last run, which was also my longest run. Help!! How, if possible, do I recover my deleted run? Please help!!

You will need to root your phone and by doing so you will delete the pictures, now, were the photos stored on the internal storage or SD card, if the later then you are out of luck, unless someone has another method
you can at least connect your phone to a PC > go to computer > xperia Z1 Compact > DCIM > thumbnails, you might be able to recover at least some of the pictures

  • Help!  Accidentally deleted my phone # from iMessage

    Hello
I accidentally deleted my phone number from iMessage and now it only shows my email address. I have re entered my number in my Apple profile and no luck. Can anyone tell me how to fix this?  I'm new to the iPad but this has been a nightmare. Thank you!

If the backup of your old phone is no longer in iCloud, there is no way to recover it.

  • HELP! Accidentally Deleted Videos

Ugh. Don't ask why I did it. So I thought I would be freeing up some space on my Mac by deleting a whole bunch of videos in the Finder that were also in iTunes. I thought they would still work, but it turns out they don't. Is there any way I can get them back, even after I emptied the Trash Can?

Well, you could use an Apple Laptop with enough free disk space, but the APP to recover the stiff will still cos, you'd use FireWire target disk mode...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58583
the program at least has a Demo to see if it could work, but every second that computer is ON, used or not, chances are getting slimmer of recovery.

  • Help! accidentally deleted to dos

hello, i accidentally deleted some to dos and cant get them back
i did make time machine backups though but dont know how to use them to get back to an old ical state. i didnt make an ical backup unfortunately

    heiner kruse,
First of all, make a backup of your current iCal data. iCal>File>Back up iCal...
Quit iCal, and then enter Time Machine at the time that you still had those To Do's. Find the yourusername/Library/Calendars folder, click on Action Icon, select "Restore Calendars To..." and choose yourusername/Library/ Folder. You should be asked if you want to replace the folder, which is what you want to do.
If you made other calendar entries between the selected backup time, and today they will be lost. Only you can decide which is more important, the To Do's or the calendar entries.
    Good Luck.

  • Help! Accidentally deleted my Windows 8 partition. Can I recover it?

    Hi all,
    I have a bit of a problem.
While I was trying deleting/formatting a USB stick connected to my rMBP, I accidentally selected the windows partition on my HDD instead of the USB. I then preceded to rename and click "erase," just before realising what I'd done!
As you can imagine, I was pretty annoyed with myself, but I hoped that I was mistaken and booting into windows would would work as normal... This didn't happen. Is there anything I can do to get back to 'the old days' and recover my Windows instalation/partition?
Any help you can give will be greately appreciated.
    Thanks.

If you had sensitive data on that partition, then you'll have to make the decision of how much money it's worth to get it all back via recovery software or a recovery service like OnTrack.  If all that was on there was Windows 8 and some programs you can easily reload (i.e. your only cost is your time), then just reload it like you did originally through the BootCamp wizard.  If this is the case, consider it a learning experience and move on.  I once deleted the Microsoft User Data folder from my Documents folder thinking (What's this doing here...) lol.  You can imagine how surprised I was when I started Outlook and nothing was there.  I was like... SOB!

  • Help!  Accidentally deleted effects (Bevels), etc. PSE 8 (Mac)

The header says it all.  I accidentally (ok, make it STUPIDLY) deleted most of my bevels.  Is there any way to get them back?  A reinstall of PSE 8 for Mac?
If that will work, can I install over the old installation, or is it necessary to unininstall, then reinstall?
Any help will be much appreciated

    Barbara,
Thanks.  Your suggestion was spot on.  I had seen this solution listed elsewhere for Windows.  I tried finding the file using spotlight, but I guess its a hidden file and i could't find it.  With your advice, I did.  I deleted the file, restarted PSE8, and VOILA!
Many thanks for your good advice, and timely response.
