MY SYSTEM IS NOT CRASHED BUT MY MOUSE ARROW IS FROZEN. THIS OCCASSIONALLY HAPPENS, AND BELIEVE ME WHEN I TELL YOU IT IS NOT A HARDWARE (I.E., BAD WIRES, BAD USB PORT, BAD MOUSE) PROBLEM. WHEN MY MOUSE PROBLEMS OCCUR THEY TURN OUT TO BE A SOFTWARE ISSUE, FOR WHICH A QUICK REINSTALL TO ORIGINAL FACTORY SETTINGS ALWAYS FIXES. BUT I OBVIOUSLY CANNOT DO THAT THIS TIME BECAUSE SELECTING THE CORRECT REINSTALL OPTION REQUIRES USE OF THE AFOREMENTIONED FROZEN MOUSE ARROW (IT’S THE THIRD BULLET POINT DOWN THAT YOU HAVE TO CHOOSE FROM THE ROUTINE. OTHERWISE ITS JUST STUCK ON THE FIRST OPTION). OTHERWISE I’M FORCED TO USE ONLY WHAT I CALL THE WUSS REINSTALL OPTION THAT JUST SAVES ALL THINGS IN AN ORIGINAL ITEMS FOLDER, KEEPING THE BAD SOFTWARE LURKING ON THE SYSTEM, KEEPING THE ARROW FROZEN. SO, I’M SCREWED UNLESS I CAN ENTIRELY ERADICATE THE PROBLEMATIC SOFTWARE SOME OTHER WAY, WHICH I COULD DO IF ONLY I COULD EMPTY MY TRASH. SO:
HOW DO I EMPTY OS 9 TRASH USING ONLY KEYBOARD COMMANDS?
AND HOW DO I EVEN INSURE THAT THE LOCKED ITEMS IN THAT TRASH ALSO GET DELETED AFTER I INITIATE EMPTYING THE TRASH?

To use the keyboard to empty the Trash, press Command-Shift-Delete (that's the large Delete button two rows above Return).
Normally, to delete a locked item when emptying the Trash, one would press Option while selecting Empty Trash from the Special menu. However, adding Option to the Command-Shift-Delete combo does not seem to work (just tested it).
If the issue is indeed software based, it should not be at play when the machine is booted to an OS Install CD. That's one of the reasons to boot to a CD - all software on the hard drive becomes nothing more than data files; none of it is in use.
One of the main causes for such behavior when using an Apple Pro mouse is that those mouses had a defect - the wires inside the cable could fray at the point the cable leaves the mouse body, causing random open or short circuits.
Another possible cause occurs when an optical mouse overloads the non-powered hub in the keyboard. This happened to me - it finally killed the keyboard. After replacing the keyboard I came across Apple KBase Article #58649 - Apple Pro Keyboard: Devices Connected. I reconfigured my USB connection scheme so that the mouse was plugged into the powered hub in my monitor, and have not had a similar problem since.

I am in dilemma.
Recently i have joined a new organization which is a world leader in its field . The company name is very popular around the globe. But the thing is its almost 4 months , and as an Oracle DBA , i am not getting chance to work on something interesting / challenging . The thing is , i studied the environment here and i think most of my work involves only preparing DB docs , attending meeting and raising support tickets once a while. So very minimal technical work.
To be honest, in last 4 years of my career i haven't worked in such a large organization before so during interview i didn't ask for type of work ,and i just wanted to join this organization as it will have a dramatic impact when i mention the name in my resume . I do not want to quit this organization so early because it will have a bad impression . Also , i think speaking to my bosses will not work because they cant help it in any way .
I am happy with every thing else here , but i want to leave this company for doing something challenging as an Oracle DBA , but want to stay here because every thing else is damn good and also when i switch to a new company after 2 years , people will be dying to hire me ;) , am i contradicting ?
Please help me to come out of this dilemma.

Well, joining a big company from a small company and then leaving it just in few days would actually backfire. Next hiring people would think that since you were in capable to handle the workload in a big company(because you never worked in such environment before), you were thrown out. You won't be able to justify your reason that you left because you didnt' find enough challenge there because it can be completely blown away by a simple counter that how did you know that there was no challenging work there as you never stayed there even for a year too! So IMO, you would do more harm for you than anything good be quitting now. Its a mistake not to ask about the work but you have committed it already . What you should n't do is to do add another one and that is to leave the company now.
Since you are not having much work, why don't you use it learn more about the company, its various works, other divisons and above all, to learn oracle database in your spare time. There is no place where you would be given challenges for your sake. If there is work it would come to you else you would be remaining free. You are working as a normal dba I believe not in support or something like that for you, every time, a new issue ticket is ready. If you have spare time with you, use it wisely to understand how things are working , both in your organization and with oralce db. Spend time doing trainings and learn more about the product, complete at least and then leave.

The next time you attempt to reach Skype Customer Service, try again using a different web browser and choosing a different path through the various drop-down menu options presented. Do not choose the obvious - you have already established that path is not working. Also, look to approve a pop-up dialogue box which would connect you to start an instant message chat with a customer service agent. If you have pop-ups blocked in your browser settings, this will also impede reaching an agent.
Skype is aware of problems reaching their customer service unit via the website, however people are getting through. I have flagged your report for follow-up by those to whom I report.

Are you sure it isn't turned on? Are you sure it is even a Verizon tower? If it is a Verizon tower, it may not be turned on yet because it has not received approval from your local government. If it is awaiting approval, Verizon has no control about when approval will be granted.

HELP- Audio is freaking out in export when it sounds fine/looks fine in Sequence!

My project sounds fine while editing, but once I export, towards the end of my project the audio is freaking out in levels. It will be loud at one point and then quiet at another all in a matter of 20 seconds. I originally had mp3 tracks but I switched all to AIF so I can't seem to find the problem. Please help!

When you swtiched audio formats did you go through compressor or just render in the timeline.

I believe that my iPhone or apple ID has been hacked into. Three imessages were sent from my phone that I did not type or send - two while I was asleep at 1:15am and in the morning during an iMessage conversation. These messages were to my boyfriend about my boss. Apple and AT&T have been somewhat helpful but both are pointing fingers at the others saying they cannot track the message or see if my personal information has been compromised. I feel extremely violated because this hacker knows who my boyfriend is and who my boss is and I just started this job two weeks ago! I am about to go to the police because this person is trying to taint my good reputation and destroy my relationships at work and in my personal life. Does anyone have any incite on how this could be done and is there any way to trace where those three iMessages were generated from??

No I have my own iPhone iPad and MacBook so everything is set up on devices that are mine and as far as I know I never connected to anyone else's device and logged with my apple ID. But are you saying it is possible for someone to have obtained my apple ID and send an iMessage from their device with my contact information so it looks like it came directly from me? My mid-2009 Macbook Pro is giving me fits. Every so often, about once every 2 months, I would be working on my computer and then all of a sudden, the screen would go black (as if it were sleeping) and would not turn back on. I'd have to hold down the power button to manually shut it off, and then do an SMC reset/PRAM reset to get it back on. It would literally turn off in the middle of anything -- word processing, internet, etc. It is EXTREMELY frustrating -- it doesn't turn back on normally, either. I need to do an SMC/PRAM reset to have any hopes of it turning back on, other wise I would turn it on and it would do the grey screen, then turn off again.
Anyway, this has started happening FAR too often (just once is too much!!)). It has happened 3 times in the last 3 days.
Has anyone ever heard of this? The computer goes black (sleep light goes on, not pulsating though) and it does not turn back on unless I do some kind of SMC/PRAM reset. Sometimes when it's trying to come back on it gives me the blue screen, but then just shuts off again. I'm really ****** off, as this computer is less than 8 months old. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU CAN HELP!!!

So I finally had time to bring it into the Apple store. Explained everything, they took it for a few days to figure out what was wrong with it, and they decided it was overheating (something I assured them WASN'T happening) and replaced the fans. Low and behold, the same stupid problem occurred again, tonight, just 4 days after I got the computer back. Guess it wasn't the fans, like I told them it wouldn't be because my computer has never felt too hot.
Here's a recap of what happens:
My computer screen goes black. The computer is still "on" as indicated by the sleep light (not pulsating, just bright) being on. I have to manually shut the computer off because it is completely non-responsive. I try to restart the computer and it gets to the grey startup screen, and shuts right off after a quick flash of blue. This happens every time I try to restart my computer when this problem occurs. I let the computer sit entirely shut down for 5-10 minutes, doesn't help. This time it took 45 minutes to get it back on normally. This has happened probably 10-12 times overall now. It is beyond frustrating.
Apple did absolutely nothing to fix the problem. I am going to have to bring it back, but what good will it be if they didn't do anything the first time? Maybe now they'll listen that it is NOT the fans and my computer is NOT overheating when this happens.
If anyone knows what is happening or has any suggestions, please let me know.

Dead HD trying to find out about this mac

I am fixing a Macbook for a friend and his hard drive is dead. Almost all the numbers on the back of the computer are worn off. Is there a way to find out what the computer has in it by way of terminal commands possibly? I am trying to find out if I can buy him Mountain Lion and install it on a new hard drive.

Once you've put in the new hard drive and formatted it for the Mac you'll want to put OS 10.6 Snow Leopard on it. The 10.6 Snow Leopard DVD is in the Apple online store. You can get it for $19.99. You will need to be running 10.6.8 to access the App Store to order Lion or Mountain Lion. http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
Put your 10.6 install DVD into the optical drive (CD/DVD drive) and reboot. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the "c" key on your keyboard (or the Option Key until the Install Disk shows up) until the apple shows up. That will force your MacBook to boot from the install DVD in the optical drive.
When it does start up, you'll see a panel asking you to choose your language. Choose your language and press the Return key on your keyboard once. It will then present you with an Installation window.
Completely ignore this window and click on Utilities in the top menu and scroll down to Disk Utility and click it. You should see your hard drive in the left hand column along with your other drives. Click on the drive and select the Erase tab. Set the format value to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and click the Erase button. After that has finished select the Partition tab. Type in a Name for your hard drive and select how many partitions you want from the Volume Scheme. The usual setting is one partition. Click on the Options button after you've selected a partition to make sure it's set for GUID. Then click the Apply button and after the Partitioning is done quit Disk Utility.
You can now follow the instructions on the install screen

Where do i go to find out about this undocumented feature?

If I open a PDF's Document Properties and click the Additional Metadata button, it brings up a new dialog for entering metadata. All the metadata fields, there, have down arrows on the right side, presumably to enable someone to choose from a pick list of possible entries. But how does one populate those lists of possible entries? This appears to be an undocumented feature...or at least it's so cleverly hidden that it's very difficult to find. They logically appear to prpvode a place where users might be able to store a bunch of common entries for the team, to enable consistent team usage. This would be especially useful with regard to the Keyword field. It isn't much help if everyone types in randomly-conceived key words on the fly; that results in a chaos of misspellings, mis-phrasings, etc. What work teams need is a consistent list of key words that can be agreed upon, loaded for team usage, and accessible/assignable within any PDF document so that all the team's PDFs are tagged correctly.

Thanks for pointing that out but, unfortuately, that response doesn't address the question.
Creating a custom property has nothing to do with building a list of values in the keywords field's dropdown picklist menu.
And adding a custom tag doesn't help because the tag you create doesn't appear in the 'additional metadata' window.
This whole area of Acrobat seems not to be documented....or if it is, the documentation is too hard to find.
But thanks for pointing out the custom tag names function...i just wish it told us how and why to use it.
