Help! I am trying to decide between the Macbook Air and Pro.

If I got an air I would get the largest screen/processor combo but with the Pro as the price is a bit more I would go with the smaller. Which would you recommend?

You should also ask this in the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air forums. This is the forum for the white and black plastic MacBooks that were discontinued in 2010. You should also post this question there to increase your chances of getting an answer.

  • I am looking at mac computers, and cannot decide between the macbook air or the pro, can anyone help?

I am about to go into my senior year in high school and I need a new laptop. I like to be able to have a reliable laptop with fast speed and can get the job done for my porjects and presentations. I also like to play online games with my friends, and I wanrt to be able to know that I will not be stopped with a slow computer. Can anyone give me suggestions for the laptop I am looking for?

If you're doing nothing more than web browsing, email, some light photo processing, and your standard Microsoft Office Stuff, I'd get the MacBook Air 13" with 4GB RAM and the largest SSD drive you can afford.  It's light, and fast.
If you're going to edit movies and use Photoshop with lots of plug-ins, do substantial graphics, play 3D games, then get the fastest MacBook Pro with the largest screen, biggest HD and most RAM you can afford.
The thing is, the MacBook Pro is more like a desktop that's portable.  The MacBook Air is still a powerful computer (it's not just an iPad with keyboard like a lot of people claim), but you basically are stuck with what you got.  It really can't do a lot of heavy computer lifting.
    I'm a MacBook Pro guy.

  • Trying to decide between a Macbook air or Macbook Pro retina

I'm going to college in September and I'm trying to decide between a fully speced out Air or a Retina pro with upped RAM and CPU. My Dad recently got an air and I have played with it quite a bit and it feels really nice and portable, easy to carry around and use during breaks or to type up notes during a class. I would possibly use Photoshop on it at college (In my graphics design class) but I don't know if I will need to. The Retina display seems really awesome but I don't know whether or not to go for the pro, I would also like to play games on it however not too many (for example the something like skyrim). I also have a main gaming desktop which I would use for high intensity programs at home.

  • Is there a difference between the macbook air and the macbook pro?

i know the specs but are there some differences where you can tell me about??

The differences are pretty obvious if you've read the technical specifications comparison. Which MacBook Pro are you comparing the MacBook Air against? There are additional differences if you're comparing between 13, 15 or 17" models.
    The most obvious differences:
    Optical Drive
    Ethernet port
    FireWire port
    i5/i7 CPU architecture
    Dedicated GPU (15 & 17 MBP)
    RAM and HDD upgradeability
    Backlit keyboard

  • Torn Between The MacBook Air and the Pro. Advice?

I have a MacBook Pro, but do a lot of photography and would love the Retina display. However the shorter battery life and the number of people who have warned me I will need to replace the hard drive with a SSD concerns me. I currently store my photos on an external hard drive. Thanks for your help.

In my opinion, you should only buy the Pro if you know for a fact you need the extra CPU/GPU power. If you don't, you'll be stuck with the Pro's disadvantages (heavier, worse battery, etc...) without benefiting from any of the advantages (the aforementioned additional CPU/GPU power). Wait till the end of the year/early next year to see if Apple has a retina Air. Otherwise, only get the Pro if you know you need the extra horsepower.

  • Pros and cons of the macbook air and the macbook pro

    Hi!
This coming year, my younger daugter will go to high school and need a macbook because she is dyslectic. I want to know which one between the macbook air and the macbook pro will be the best for her. Thanks for your answer.

At least according to their web site, Whitesmoke Executive is not compatible with the Mac operating system.
Word Q does have a Mac version. http://www.goqsoftware.com/products/
I was unable to figure out what software package you meant by Antidote. There are several.
Word, of course, is part of MS Office, and they make a Mac OS version. I use Office 2011 daily.
None of these products are likely to tax the hardware of either of the computers you mention at all. The computer will be spending most of its time waiting for your daughter to do something.
Note - my neice just bought a MacBook Air 11". She is entering the University of South Carolina in the fall and is absolutely thrilled with the computer.

  • I'm trying to decide between the time capsule & airport extreme. With either option, will i not have air play?

I'm trying to decide between the time capsule & airport extreme. With either option, will i not have air play? I have an IMAC, MACBOOK, 2 Apple TVs, 3 iPhones...

AIrplay to digital or analogue devices like speakers or hifi system is only available in Express. Or Apple TV.
The TC or Extreme will pass airplay protocol just fine to your ATV.
The Extreme and TC and now identical apart from the TC having an internal hard disk.

Error message as above and below:
    'Send Message Error
The message could not be sent because connecting to SMTP server mail.btinternet.com failed.
The server may be unavailable or is refusing SMTP connections.' (etc.)
BT won't deal with this - they redirect me to a 'partner' who want to charge to discuss the problem. Nice, eh!

The only way to sync Notes is through a mail server. If you don't want to use iCloud, you'll have to use some other mail account, or run your own mail server under OS X Server. The latter is a job for advanced users only.

    Hi kxh3011,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
This feature is called closed clamshell mode.  To learn more about using closed clamshell mode with an external display and how to set it up, please take a look at the article below.

Don't switch email providers. Switch to another email client on your Mac. It is not Yahoo. I have 3 Yahoo accounts and never have any problems getting or sending mail from/to those accounts. But I don't use the built in Mac Mail program. I use Thunderbird. I use thunderbird on both Mac OS X and Windows. Been using it for some time now with no problems getting my Yahoo mail, Google gmail mail or form my work email account.

  • I am trying to authorise my new macbook air and it won't let me. I try to de-authorise all the other computers and it says I can only do this once a year and have to wait until the 7th Feb. It does not give me an option to authorise this computer

Always remember to 'de-authorize' you computer when selling or sending for service. If sending for repairs you might not get the same mother board or HD back and some how this counts as an authorized computer against your count.

  • Debating between 13" Macbook Air and 13" Macbook Pro

Primarilly will be using it with Adobe CS6 (AI, PS and ID). Nothing too intensive and I would be planning on upgrading to the 8gb ram. I know on the older Macbook Air there were problems running OpenGl 2.0. I could care less about the lack of optical drive on the Macbook Air. I guess what I would like to know is... is anyone here running Cs6 on the new Macbook Air and how are they finding it? Would it be a better option to go with the Macbook Pro?
    Thanks!

The "graphics team" that I support for my department have two 13" MacBook Airs (Mid 2011) and they're very pleased with them, both users run CS6 on them. I know one of them will even run their machine on a 27" monitor at 1920x1200 and I've never heard a peep out of them in regards to sluggishness. I suspect the newer machines with 8GB of RAM, a faster SSD and RAM as well as an improved GPU would be even better.
One thing you can also consider doing is trying out Adobe CS6 on the new machines at an Apple Store. I frequently bring external HDs with me to the Apple Store to try programs before I'll make a petition to purchasing for upgraded units. As long as the program can run self-contained on an external drive you should be just fine. I did with with CS5 about 8 months ago.
Lastly, outside of the CPU difference, the MacBook Air has very mostly the same "under the hood" specs. The difference in CPU would be offset by the improved performance of the SSD over the standard HD, at least that's what I've noticed from my own experiences and the feedback of my users.

  • Is the macbook air and iPad supposed to sync last page read?

is my macbook air and iPad2 supposed to sync last book page read?

    Do you mean in iBooks?
If you're signed in to iCloud on both machines, that's what's supposed to happen. However, if the internet connection on the machine you used last was poor, the sync may not have completed
