HELP- I am trying ton configure Airport Extreme on a pc

Okay here is the story. My dsl modem went out. They sent me a new modem a Westell 6110 and they had to do something to my line to make the new modem work on my line. Well when I hooked my airport extreme back up, I could not get signal through it.
I have the modem ethernet cable into WAN port, ethernet cable from LAN port on airport to a windows computer. I could not get internet through it. So a friend told me that I needed to manually configure the modem with my ipconfig information so I did that and nothing so after clicking here and clicking there the system would not even recognize the aiport anymore, so I disconnected and hooked the dsl directly into the computer so I could start researching it.
Does anyone know what I can do? I am at the end of the rope and the other end is wrapped around this darn airport and I feel like slinging it.
Help!!!!!!!!!!anyone

Do you get Internet connectivity if you plug your PC directly, using an Ethernet cable, to the Westell modem? Does your DSL provider require PPPoE to be setup for connectivity to their service?
Assuming both are true, then we would need to check the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) settings...before doing so, you should perform a power recycle of the modem and AEBS to allow time for the modem to "recognize" the AEBS.
Modem/Router Power ReCycling
- Power-off the DSL modem & AEBS. (Wait at least 30 minutes. If possible, leave the modem off overnight.)
- Power-on the DSL modem; Wait at least 30 minutes.
- Power-on the AEBS; Wait at least 5 minutes.
Setup the AEBS
Connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to the LAN port of the AEBS, and then, using the AirPort Admin Utility, check these settings:
AirPort tab
- Base Station Name: <whatever you wish or use the default>
- AirPort Network Name: <whatever you wish or use the default>
- Create a closed network (unchecked)
- Wireless Security: Not enabled
- Channel: Automatic
- Mode: 802.11b/g Compatible
Internet tab
- Connect Using: PPP over Ethernet (PPPoE)
- Account Name: <ISP account name>
- Change password: <ISP password>
- Always stay connected (checked)
- WAN Ethernet Port: Automatic
Network tab
- Distribute IP addresses (checked)
- Share a single IP address (using DHCP & NAT) (enabled)

  • HOW DO I CONFIGURE  AIRPORT EXTREME TO ENABLE HP EPRINT

HOW DO I CONFIGURE  AIRPORT EXTREME TO ENABLE HP EPRINT

Thank you.  Before seeing your message, I uninstalled the printer and reinstalled it on my Airport Extreme with WIFI protected setup using the PIN provided by the printer.  Next I followed instructions  from HP saying I should disable the eprint on the printer and epring on the embedded web server should be turned off. I did both and went about my work until I saw your email.  Upon seeing your message, I went to the HP OfficeJet 6700 Premium printer and enabled web services, then went to the console of nearby MacMini, clicked on the printer icon in the dock, clicked "settings" and clicked "show printer webpage" and the on the printer webpage, I went to "eprint" tab, turned it on and for the first time EVER, I heard  the connecting chime and saw a green check mark on the web instead of a red x. I returned to printer console, answered the questions and printed the instrucitons, logged into HPeprint center through Safari  and changed my password for this printer on the HP ePrint center using the code  receive on the instruction page.   Everything looks good to go.
Thanks for the advice on the caps. I really did not intend to send the question at all.  Glad I did.

  • How to make Mac OS X Server auto-configure Airport Extreme port-mapping

Mac OS X Server can automatically configure AirPort Extreme to make services such as iChat, Mail, Web, and VPN accessible: http://www.apple.com/server/macosx/features/networking-vpn.html
I presume this configuration generally takes place during a fresh installation of the server.
Is there any way to re-run this process post-installation?

That page talks about Snow Leopard's Networking abilities, not Leopards.
Off hand, I don't know whether what you describe is a new feature in Snow Leopard or not, but I've never seen Leopard do it (and, to be honest, wouldn't want to).
In either case, it's basically just Bonjour telling the router to configure port forwarding. Given that, I'd start by enabling mod_bonjour in Apache:
    #LoadModule bonjour_module libexec/apache2/mod_bonjour.so
but I don't know how other processes are doing it.

  • New help with my mac air and airport extreme time capsule dont know how to save to time capsule and use as a external hd

new help with my mac air and airport extreme time capsule dont know how to save to time capsule and use as a external hd would like 2 store my home videos and pictures on the time machine (ONLY) as the MAC AIR has storage space limited space please help. THANK YOU.

See the info here about sharing or using the TC for data.
    Q3 http://pondini.org/TM/Time_Capsule.html
It is extremely important you realise.. the Time Capsule was never designed for this.
It is a backup target for Time Machine.. that is the software on the computer that does backups.. it has no direct connection to the Time Capsule.
It has no ability to back itself up.. unlike all other NAS in the market. It is therefore likely one day you will lose all your files unless you seriously work out how to backup.
The TC is slow to spin up the hard disk and fast to spin down. iTunes and iPhoto will continually lose connection to their respective libraries.
iPhoto in particular is easy to corrupt when you move photos over wireless into the library.. once corrupted all is corrupt. A single photo will ruin it all.. so backup is utterly essential.
Time Machine cannot do backups of network drives. ie the TC. You will need a different backup software like CCC. You will then need another target to backup to..

  • Error message when trying to setup Airport Extreme Unit - Please Help

I have never tried to set an Airport Extreme, but expected it to be relatively simple.....
I have been given an Airport Extreme unit (model A1143 - 802.11n) to use to set up a wireless network in my home. I am using the airport utility app to try and set this up but recieve the following error message:
This version of AirPort Utility requires this AirPort Extreme use firmware version 7.3.1 or later. Use AirPort Utility 5.6 to update this base station. AirPort Utility 5.6 is available at AirPort Service and Support.
I have downloaded the latest version of airport utility 6.3.1 as the old version would not install, but still i cannot get past the error message.
I am running a Macbook with OS X Lion 10.7.5 on it.
Could anyone help me with this issue and assist in getting me setup.
    Thanks
    Stuart

Unfortunately, things like this can happen when you try to use current software on a 6 year old product.
The solution is exactly as the message states:
You will need to use AirPort Utility 5.6 to update the firmware on the AirPort Extreme.
AirPort Utility 5.6 can be installed on a Mac running Leopard (10.5.x) or Snow Leopard (10.6.x) or a PC. If you do not have access to one of these devices, you might be able to take the AirPort Extreme to an Apple Store to have them update the firmware for you.
Once the firmware on the AirPort Extreme has been updated......then..... it will be possible to administer the AirPort Extreme using AirPort Utility 6.3.1.

  • Can't configure Airport Extreme with IP 192.168.0.1 after software update

    Hi there,
after updating my ax with utility software 5.3.1 and firmware 7.3.1. The software didn't allow the dhcp configuration to stay at IP range from 192.168.0.40 to 192.168.0.200
The message said that this is not a valid IP.
The configuration was working before without any problem.
After several tries I changed to 192.168.1.40 and 192.168.1.200. Now I was able to save the changes. And the airport is working well.
    But I can't go back to 192.168.0
But I need to use 192.168.0 for a tunnel to connect to my wifes company.
    Configuration:
    Seperate Modem with DSL.
    Connecting over PPPoE
    Activeted WLan
Connected computers over Lan and Wlan
    Can anybody help?
    Thanx
    Stephan

by-feet, Welcome to the discussion area!
AFAIK the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) has always forced the 3rd digit to be a 1 (one), as in x.y.1.z.
Could it be that you previously had the AEBS to operate as a bridge and your "modem" was actually suppling the IP addresses?

  • 20-in Intel iMac (early 2006) Tiger -- configuring Airport Extreme Card

Hi -- I come from a mostly "not mac" background and am having difficulty diagnosing a slow internet connection -- and can't tell if I'm trying to use the right tool for the job. (I am using MAC OS X 10.4.11)
My home network uses a Linksys WRT54G wireless router and I've got 3 computers that connect using the router (including the iMac) -- the other two are Windows-based machines. We've got a 2-story house and I've been moving the router and computers around the house a bit trying to come up with the best configuration for a good wireless connection (I'm going to be ordering a supplemental antenna, but don't have it yet).
The two Windows machines (one using a relatively old PCI wireless card) get strong signals. I'm not even sure how strong a signal the iMac gets as I am not sure which utility allows me to see this. I do know that it has a painfully slow connection speed (at least web pages load at a crawl...).
    I've got an Airport Extreme Card (0x14E4, 0x89). Firmware: Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0 (4.170.46.9).
I went to Apple's support downloads, and attempted to install firmware updates, but I am getting a message that indicates that these updates are not applicable to my card. I updated the Airport Utility software, but as far as I can tell that utility is looking for an Airport Extreme base that I don't have. Other than that I haven't seen any applicable information using that utility.
I was hoping to reach a configuration area that would allow me to specify 802.11b or g, and allow me to specify the channel -- but other than in the internet sharing section I don't see a place that allows me to do this. (I've currently got our home network on a 802.11g network on channel 8.) We're using WPA personal encryption -- which does appear to be recognized by the Airport Extreme card.
Am I missing something? I've got 3 "Airport" utilities but none of them seem to allow me to specifically configure the internal card. I've gone to "network" under System Preferences, and although I can see a "configure" button when I click on "Airport," it's pretty basic and doesn't allow me to set the channel or anything other than encryption & a password.
I would appreciate any help you can give me. Is this card so outdated that I should invest in a newer one? Am I limited by my outdated OS? (I hesistate to upgrade OS's when things are working -- in the Windows environment at least newer isn't always better...) Thanks. mcaren

Thank you Duane for your response.
I have only noticed a huge difference in the connection speeds of my iMac and our other computers in the last 6 mos. to a year. I did notice an improvement in speed when using a Rosewill USB wireless adapter -- I had a good wireless signal but would intermittently lose connectivity (and their user support was basically nil...).
I can't tell if I'm actually seeing an improvement in our other machines' connection (perhaps from the tweaking I'm able to do) or if in fact the iMac is slowing significantly. I think it's the latter. I've actually swapped out machines in the same position to see if location is at fault -- and I get no improvement in connection speed. I've had the iMac connected with ethernet to our router when possible because it has had such a slow wireless connection, but I needed to move the router recently and would like the iMac to stay in another room.
I've also read a lot about connection speed issues with Airport, but these reports are usually blamed on Leopard updates (there might be similar Tiger issues, but I don't read about them...).
Oh well. I'm hoping someone out there has some tricks up their sleeve as to how I can improve my wireless connection speed. Thanks for the help! mcaren

  • Need help with foscam cameras connecting to AirPort Extreme N

    Greetings,
I could really use some help from the AirPort gurus! I have an AirPort Extreme N base station, with firmware 7.4.2. I purchased a couple of Foscam FI8908W pan and tilt cameras. I am trying to get them to work on my home network, but cannot figure it out. Personally I think it might have something to do with port forwarding, but hec I just don't know. I have tried searching for answers, but came up empty. Here is a copy of the manual for anyone if interested <http://idisk.mac.com/wheelchairguy-Public>. I have been using VMware with XP to try and setup the camera, but the camera is not found with the IP Cam setup software. I thought I might be able to directly connect to my computer with an Ethernet cable, but no go there either. Also no go with an ethernet cable plugged to the camera into the base station. I just have no idea where or what I am doing wrong. If anyone can help me, I would be very grateful.
    Thanks,
    Mark

    Hi OneCog,
We're also have broadband connected to TimeWarner. When I first got the camera I tried the same thing and had the same problem. I never read the docs and assume plug and play. So I just plugged the ethernet cable from my laptop to the camera directly and of course my laptop was connected wirelessly to the internet. It doesn't work that easily and don't worry about the cable modem, you never have to touch it's settings.
I went to the http://foscam.us website and found these instructions that actually worked:
    Foscam IP Camera Instructions
    Software Insallation:
Install from the Cd the IPCamSetup.exe file OR
Or download the IPcamsetup.exe file from the website Foscam.us
    a) Go to the website Foscam.us
    b) Click the tool & support section (top middle section)
    c) Click on Download IP Camera Tools (for FI8908W or FI8904W)
    d) Click on IPCamSetup.rar (bottom left corner)
    e) Click on IPCamSetup.exe
You should now have an IP Camera Tools Icon
    Hardware Installation:
Plug the Ethernet network cable(grey wire) into the camera then into the router
Plug the power adapter (black wire)into the camera and then into the power outlet
    Opening the Camera:
Once` plugged in correctly, double click on the icon IP Camera Tools
The Camera’s IP address will appear, double click on it to open the camera
(If “subnet doesn’t match” appears , double click on it and check the box ’Obtain IP from DHCP server’ then click on OK)
    Login to the Camera:
    User: admin
    Password: (leave it blank)
    Click Login button
NOTE: Press the first Login button if using internet Explorer or other browsers OR
Press the second Login button if using Firefox, o r Google Chrome
    Test to see if working:
    Click on “Live Video”
    Connecting Camera to Wireless:
Type your router Ip address unto your browser( press enter)
(Don’t know your router IP address? SEE: Finding your router IP address)
You may have to login or give your password. Do so.
Under the word Wireless(on left) find ‘Channel and SSID’
Click on ‘Channel and SSID’ write down(on paper) the SSID name
Click on ‘Security” and write down Security type, Authentication, Encryption Technique and Pre-shared Key information

Connecting your Camera to the Internet
Write down the local IP address of your camera
(To find this address open IP Camera Tools)( it will display the IP address of the camera as htpp://[YourCamerasLocalIPAddress])
Write down your router’s external internet IP address
( The easiest way to find this would be to Google “What is my IP address” and go to the first link which pops up and that is usually whatismyipaddress.com)
Log in to your wireless router
To do this you must enter the IP address of your router into your browser(enter)

local IP address(by changing the last component of the number to the last or last
two digits of your cameras IP address)
    d)Select enable option
    e)Save by clicking ‘Apply Changes’
OR If you have more than one camera
a)click on “Virtual Server” or “Port Forwarding”
    b) set the inbound port to 80 and the outbound port to 80
    c) Save by clicking ‘Apply Changes’
Test it to see if you set it up correctly
open a browser and enter your external internet ip address into the address bar and press enter
You should arrive at your camera’s login screen if you successfully connected the camera to the internet
NOTE: Please keep in mind that the camera’s IP address and the Internet’s external IP address can change at any time. Check and make sure that the IP addresses haven’t changed. If they have changed, use the new IP addresses.

  • Configuring Airport Extreme by replacing and old router configuration?

I have seen now a You Tube video explaining the possibility to install Airport Extreme and configuring it by replacing with an old router configuration. This will be my case because I have now a 3Com wireless router but Im waiting for a new Airport Extreme. What I would like to know is how to do that and what connections needed. If I understand well the explanations from YouTube, Airport Extreme must be connected to the internet through the ADSL modem but at the same time the old router must be turned on. It this correct?

What manual is that? Is it one that is available on Apple's website? I'm going to do a search for it.
You won't believe what happened. I just came up to check my email, and the Airport Utility just opened by itself and said it had found my AXn (which it had before also when I tried to configure it like you said to do). I went through the screens again and clicked Update yet again (like I had before) and instead of blinking yellow, the **** thing is solid green. I think I have a ghost in my house!!!
Well, thank you for all of your help! Do you have any insight into my other question about the AEBSn giving out a solid signal to my MBP, but when I click on Safari, it says that I'm not connected to the internet? I'm wondering if when I was setting up the AEBSn, the internet connection went to my computer instead of the AEBSn. I know I'm not describing this right, but it's like when I got my new iMac and tried to plug in the ethernet from the cable modem, it wouldn't recognize my iMac, but if I plugged it into my MBP it would. I had to reset the cable modem and then plug it in. The signal must have bypassed the AEBSn at some point and gone straight to my iMac (it's hardwired via ethernet cord from back of the AEBSn). It was broadcasting the internet signal at one point after my wife got it set up the first time because I was able to surf wirelessly on my MBP in the basement.

  • Problem to configuring Airport Extreme

Hi, first of all I'm sorry for my bad english.
Well, I've a problem with my Airport Extreme: I bought last month an iPod touch, really beautiful.
I wanted to connect to my Airport Extreme, but It is configured with the following settings: 802.11n (5 GHz). Now, to connect my ipod, the Airpot Extreme base must be set to 502.11g / b, but if I change the settings my iMac Core 2 duo (MacOSX 10.5.1) does not see the Airport Extrem base.
The iMac see other router configured to 802.11g/b. So it's not a problem of my iMac and even of my ipod. I think it's a configuration problem.
    Someone can help me?
    Thanks to all.

Sorry - ambiguous choice of words on my part.
What I meant to say is - the problems you are having seem to be isolated to this iMac, so any attempt to fix the problem needs to be focused on the iMac rather than the base station or your other computers. Unfortunately, I can't help you much with figuring out what the problem with your iMac is - which may not be fixable by simply "reconfiguring" something on the iMac.

  • Help! No internet connection for airport extreme - any suggestions?

Help!  I am currently (successfully) using an airport express for wifi - but I'm having a lot of trouble upgrading to a new airport extreme.  As instructed, I've powered down my cable modem before turning on the extreme, but after I'm done with the set up - it tells me I don't have internet access.  When I unplug the extreme and turn the Express unit back on I've got service with no problem.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Anytime you change networking hardware, it is always a good idea to perform a complete power recycle of your networking components.
I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
Disconnect the AirPort base station from the Internet broadband modem.
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Reconnect the AirPort base station to the Internet broadband modem. For the Extreme and Time Capsule, be sure to connect the cable to the base station's WAN (circle-of-dots) port.
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it adequate time to initialize.
Power-up the AirPort base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes. Note: The AirPort's status light may continue to flash amber after it has intialized. That is because, there may be some additional configuration items necessary, like setting up wireless security, before the overall setup is completed to get a green status.
    Power-up your computer(s).
In this basic configuration, the AirPort base station will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name (SSID) of Apple Network NNNNNN. Network clients, connected to the base station either by wire or wireless, should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options. Please post back your results.

  • Cannot configure Airport Extreme ...

    Hi,
I have purchased a Mac Mini together with an Airport Extreme (AE). I am still using a wireless router from D-Link and want to switch to the AE. It was possible to configure everything very easily with D-Link by using a browser and the IP http://192.168.0.1.
Q1: Is there such an IP for AE? (This seems to be kind of standard with other brands!)
Towards Internet I have to simulate a specific MAC (hardware) address. Otherwise I don't get an IP from my Internet provider. I found nowhere in the AE Utility where I could set that value.
Q2: Is it possible for AE to simulate another MAC address than its own? How? (This also seems to be a standard with all other brands, so I hope Apple supports this feature!)
Somehow I cannot get the wireless functionality of AE to work. My WinNT Dell notebook cannot find the wireless network that is established by AE.
Q3: Is this problem because AE has not access to the Internet yet due to my Q2 question?
I have my Apple products since 2 days now. Isn't it possible to talk to an Apple technician on the phone? I tried it today (sunday) but no one was available. Maybe it's because of the sunday but there was no information regarding that on Apple's support page!
    Thanks
    ge

global_escape, welcome to the user to user discussions!
"Q1: Is there such an IP for AE? (This seems to be kind of standard with other brands!)"
No, the Airport Extreme is configured using AirPort Utility.
"Q2: Is it possible for AE to simulate another MAC address than its own?"
    No.
"Q3: Is this problem because AE has not access to the Internet yet due to my Q2 question?"
No, AE does not need to be hooked up to the Internet to create a wireless network.
"Somehow I cannot get the wireless functionality of AE to work. My WinNT Dell notebook cannot find the wireless network that is established by AE."
Have you used AirPort Utility to "create a wireless network" for the AE? If you have already done this, check your settings. They would normally look something like this:
Wireless Mode: Create a wireless network
Wireless Network Name: The name of your wireless network
    Radio Mode: 802.11n (802.11b/g compatible)
    Wireless Security: WPA/WPA2 Personal
    Wireless Password: Your password
    Confirm Password: Your password
Please post back on your progress.

  • Error message when trying to configure airport extremesure wireless device

Airport Utility can't configure my airport extreme. I keep getting error message "error occurred...make sure...connected via ethernet and try again (-6765)". I've tried everything, hard reset, etc. Very frustrated.

Try to "find" and configure the router with ethernet first. Set the wireless configuration and check for telling light. Then disconnect the ethernet, see what happens.

  • Help using Windows XP netbook with Airport Extreme

I just brought home a Toshiba N205 netbook running Windows XP. When I try to use my Airport Extreme to get on the internet, the laptop does not see my wireless network, or any wireless network in range for that matter. I have my network protected by WPA2 Personal and I can see about a dozen other wireless networks within range when I'm on my Mac (I live in an apt building).
This is why I hate Windows! It doesn't work I don't know why and I doesn't tell me how to make it work. Help!!

Ok, I found the software toggle and turned on the wireless card. Funny, I thought it was turned on when I ENABLED the device but that's just Windowspeak for "Don't you know the function key idiot?"
The netbook now sees all the wireless networks in range...except my Airport Extreme network. I tried typing in the network name but no go.
What is the Network name (SSID)? Please help

  • Configuring Airport Extreme BS n and Airport Express n

You guys are going to kill me, but I've spent the last two days reading through all the posts and searching the forums for my answer, and I only have bits and pieces of answers. Duane and Tessarex if you are here, please help summarize this all with a complete explanation. I think others have left "steps" to getting this done, but some of them are missing. Ok, here goes:
I got a new iMac, AEBSn, and AXn. I have an original MBP that we'd like to be able to use wirelessly anywhere in our house. My wife and I were able to configure our ABESn for a wifi signal in our house (it's in a bedroom over our garage). The signal barely reaches our basement (2 floors down), and I'd like to use the AXn to make the signal better in the basement by placing it somewhere on the main floor. We have plugged in the AXn near the iMac and ABESn in the bedroom over the garage to configure it based off of suggestions in the forum. Here are my questions:
    1. How do you configure the AXn after plugging it in (to AC power)?
    a. Do I have to have the iMac's Airport card turned on to "see" the AXn? I initially had the Airport
card off because we hardwired the AEBSn via ethernet cord to the iMac, but the Airport Utility
only showed our AEBSn but not the AXn after we plugged it into the wall.
    2. What is the difference between "Extend a wireless network," "Participate in a WDS network," and "bridging?" I've read other discussions and they almost sound the same to me depending on who's asking the question and who's answering it.
    a. Does participating in a WDS network allow the AXn to extend the AEBSn's wifi signal (strength)
AND allow one to plug in a device (ie PS3) via the ethernet port on the AXn whereas extending a
wireless network means the AXn JUST extends the signal, but its ethernet port cannot be used?
Thank you very much for reading this. I know that one should always search for answers first in the forums, but I cannot find my answer exactly. The books that came with the two devices are basically worthless. We used the forums and trial and error to get the AEBSn up and running (my wife is also was a Windows based network administrator in a prior life).
I'll keep searching and seeing if I can piece this together in the meantime. Thanks again!
