Help I bought a used imac and cannot get passed the password

The support tech said that I could probably get assistance from someone here. I bought the computer from the goodwill two days ago and it is password protected with two user names. Ever time I turn on the computer it goes to choose user and enter password. I don't know how to get beyond this point and the support tech said that since the computer is a 2000 model and passed the warrinty period It would cost me $49.00. I don't have the money for this, that is the reason I went and bought a used computer. So if you could help me out that would be greatly appreciated. I didn't know which board to post this on so if in in the wrong one I apologize.

Hi, Rhonda.
Dale has answered your question, but for future reference, if your computer was made in 2000 it must be a G3 imac and you'll find more people who know about your computer in the CRT iMac forums. This forum is for the flat-panel imac, which came out in 2002.

    Hi Rhonda,
You must first find exactly what type of computer you own, running which OS.
If your Mac is a 2000 model, your original install CDs should be Mac OS 8.6 or Mac OS 9.0.4.
It's possible though, that you have a version of Mac OS X installed.
You'll find a better help in the iMac G3 or the PowerMac G4 forums.
    Good luck!

  • I bought a used IPAD and cannot get serial number to register to put it in ICLOUD, I bought a used IPAD and cannot get serial number to register to put it in ICLOUD

If you have an idea please let me know

You do not need a serial number to use it or to use iCloud.
You do however need the previous owners AppleID password to disable iOS 7 Activation Lock which is tied to their iCloud account.  If you cannot get in touch with the previous owner to disable Activation Lock, then you will never be able to activate and use that iPad.

i bought a used iphone4s and it says that the maximum number of icloud accounts have already been registered on it and i cannot now access to it. what to do?

That message it means that you will not be able to create another iCloud account on your device as the maximum number have already been created.  Your only options are to either re-use one of the accounts previously created, or create your new account using on a different iOS device or Mac, if you have one.

  • I cannot get past the password screen on my old laptop - I'm entering the password I always used and it is not working

I am trying to log on to an old laptop and I cannot get past the password screen - I'm using the password I always used and it is not working.  Even the clue doesn't help.  Is there anything I can do.  The last time it was turned on the apple staff transferred data to my new laptop.  Help

If the old Macbook(?) has Snow Leopard 10.6 installed, and you have that retail install disc or the system disc of the current (base level) system on it, you could use the installer disc as a boot volume and use the utilities on the booted install disc to reset the password. It should be a menu option in the booted Install disc, way short of any effort to re-install anything. And if your computer can do this, the same DVD has Disk Utility, to check/repair the Mac HDD.
What OS X version do you have, & what MacBook, etc is that?
    Good luck & happy computing!

    Hello JETaylor2015,
Congratulations on your new iPod nano!  I would be concerned too if my iPod was not recognized by iTunes or my computer.  I recommend reviewing this article for steps to take when your iPod is not recognized:

  • HT4410 I have just installed Windows 7 64-bit full version Home Premium using Bootcamp and cannot get access to the internet. I installed on a Macbook Air Mid 2012 with Mountain Lion. Are there some drivers that are missing from the Windows 7

Dear Apple. I have just installed Windows 7 64-bit full version Home Premium using Bootcamp and cannot get access to the internet. I installed on a Macbook Air Mid 2012 with Mountain Lion. Are there some drivers that are missing from the Windows 7 bootcamp install download from Apple

It is a Total Misconception that the Support files are installed when you are installing Windows, even if the USB drive that holds them is inserted in the system when doing the Windows install.
You must always Run the Setup.exe files from the support files or run the drivers individually once Windows has finished installing and booted to the desktop.
Also you really need to run the Boot Camp Control Panel Applet and check for updates as not all the newest drivers for full function of all the hardware is included with the original support download. That download is basically a generic version to get the system working and without doing the updates not everything will work properly.

Well, thanks for trying. Actually, I don't believe Huffyuv uses even the color space YV12 (it's primarily designed for YUV, but, does support RGB.) Well, that codec would have been something I would consider using for the intermediate lossless videos, but, it won't install. The installer tells me I need quicktime 4.1.2 or later. I'm guessing it's one of those poorly written installers that just check for a built-in set of version numbers and refuse under the assumption it's too old if the program isn't one of those numbers.
Anyway, due to time concerns, I'm forced to just go ahead and use only WMV. I would like to request that they consider adding support for HuffYUV as it is a common thing to use when one wants to work with lossless video (often used for intermediate video files or video captures.) I understand AVISynth may be impossible because QuickTime doesn't use the less reliable DirectShow method of decoding, but, HuffYUV shouldn't be too hard to support (especially since it is open source.)

  • Help! Bought a used iMac (2008) and I'm trying to install quicktime but its asking me for a password and has Apple in the "Name" spot.  How do I retrieve or reset the password?

    Can anyone help...
I just bought a used iMac (2008) from an ebay seller and I'm trying to install quicktime but its asking me for a password and has Apple in the "Name" spot.
How do I retrieve or reset the password?
It came with the upgrade of Mountain Lion but I cannot find quicktime in the applications.  When I try to install anything this Installer Password thing comes up... so I'm stuck.

I think you're slightly misunderstanding something, so maybe I'll try to chime in, even though everyone has said it in various ways.
Before OSX 10.7 (aka Lion) came out, the upgrades to OSX belonged to the Mac and not the user. Probably there was a technical legality in the user agreement that you couldn't do that, but everyone did. I could sell a Mac with Snow Leopard (or anything before that) by just erasing the hard drive, and reinstalling OSX. Then ship it to the buyer. Now, I was pretty honest as a seller, and including not only the original installation discs but also any upgrade. I would only sell a Mac if I was replacing it, so I always was getting the brand new version.
With OSX 10.7, upgrading was done online, with no disks. So the upgrades were tied to an Apple ID rather than the machine. Recently, I sold a MacBook Pro (to upgrade to a 27" iMac), which came with Lion. I had promised the buyer that it would come with Mountain Lion, but I didn't know that the upgrade was tied to my Apple ID. I made good with the buyer by sending along a $20 Apple App Store card so that she could upgrade to Lion.
So what everyone is saying here is that you need the original Installation discs or Snow Leopard disk to reinstall and wipe out the Mountain Lion that is on your Mac. It doesn't belong to you, it belongs to the seller, and without his Apple ID and password, you cannot use it. Once you do a reinstall of Snow Leopard, then you can upgrade to Lion and then to Mountain Lion. I do not believe you can upgrade directly to Mountain Lion from Snow Leopard, but I'm not sure.
If the seller claimed that you were getting Mountain Lion, then he was lying to you (or being more civil, maybe he just didn't know like I did). If you bought the used machine from Amazon Sellers or from eBay, then you have recourse through the feedback system or through PayPal. If you bought it any other way, you're on your own.

  • Hi kids, my first day using apple, anyway, is a Power Book 4.1 , bought from someone else, and i dont have the password for the key chain, and no chances of getting it, the screen, for the password keeps on coming up, any ideas?

my  first day using apple, i love it, is a power 4.1, older, but is ok to learn it, however, i bought it from someone , and i was not
given the password for key chain, so, this screen keeps on coming up, and i dont know the password, so i keep on canceling out
of it, ..... any ideas on how to fix this problem, is the key chain, that you can access through utilities, but i dont have the old password, that is my first
    problem
my second problem is that the key board, closer to the screen, is coming out, as it needs to be put in place, you would imagine you can
put it back in place, but, not sure i should mess with it, any input would be greatly appreciated it
    thank you
    lisa

Hi, Lisa. Now I see what you're desperate about.
Does it allow you to go ahead and use the iBook after you cancel the Keychain login? If so, it's not a big deal.
Are you able to go to System Preferences > Accounts and create a new account for yourself? That should eliminate Keychain password problems.
Check out these instructions on replacing the keyboard:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=111917
Maybe they will help you get it seated better. It's considered a customer-installable part, so it should be easy enough for you to handle without worrying about goofing anything up.
What CDs (if any) came with the iBook?
Which version of the operating system is it running?
How big is the hard drive and how much space remains available on it? If it's the original hard drive, it's getting very old and could fail at any time. The identifier "PowerBook 4,1" tells me that the iBook is ten years old, and is either a 500 or 600 MHz PowerPC G3 (Dual USB) iBook. As such, you can't expect a whole lot from it.
The optical drive on this iBook could be a CD-ROM (reads CDs only), CD-RW (reads and writes CDs; no DVD capability), DVD (reads CDs and DVDs), or Combo (reads and writes CDs; reads DVDs) drive.
    Good luck with it.

  • I downloaded the new os7 on my Ipad mini. Now in order to use the ipad I need to use a passcode. I cannot get pass the login screen and I never set up my ipad to use a passcode. What can I do?

I downloaded the new os7 on my ipad mini. Now in order to use the Ipad, I need to enter a passcode. I cannot get pass this screen. I did
not set it up to use a passcode. What can I do? I am not too computer savy.

I have the same problem. I upgraded to iOS7, entered my usual passcode when prompted in setup, and when I tried to access my iPad after installation was finished it denied my passcode. I can't connect to any internet to erase it or anything because the new iOS hasn't yet been configured to a wifi network, so I can't backup from anything either.
When I connect the iPad to iTunes, it tells me that Find My iPad must be disabled on my iPad before backup or restore can continue - and I can't access anything beyond the lock screen of my iPad at all because it refuses to accept my passcode, so I can't get to Find My iPad.
