Help! I can't print to HP Printer across LAN

I can't print on my HP psc 1350xi all in one scanner and printer from my iMac G5 across my LAN. The printer is connected to my old iMac 600 MHz computer, running 10.2.8, through the USB 1 port, and the two iMacs are networked through a wired Linksys router. The G5 iMac can find the printer on the network, but it won't let me add it as a device. When I was using 10.4.2 on the G5 it worked just fine across the network. But, since I upgraded to 10.4.5 the Add button in the print selection pane fails to highlight when selecting the printer.
I went to HP's website and followed their instructions to un-install and reload new driver software which was dated 1-2006. This didn't help at all.
Does anyone have any idea how to get the G5 iMac to add the printer across the LAN?
Thanks in advance,
Bob

Bob,
I would suggest three things:
1. Reinstall the latest combo update (10.4.5)
2. Repair disk permission from Disk Utility
3. Create a new user and try to install the printer
hope that helps,
Mihalis.

  • P Help - Laptop can't print via wireless net to 7780 all in one office jet.

Please help - I can not print from new laptop via wireless network to my existing HP 7780 Office jet Pro all in one printer. I am running windows 7 32-bit operating sys.  HP diagnostics software indicates all is good. Print job gets stuck in queue.

    1. Make sure the printer is turned on and connected to your network. Verify that you can access the printer's internal web page by browsing to its IP address before continuing.
    2. Click >> Start >> Control panel >> Printers.
    3. Click the Add a printer
    4. Select Local printer
    5. Select Create a new port and select Standard TCP/IP Port and click Next button.
    6. Under Device type, select TCP/IP Device. Under Hostname or IP address, enter the printer's IP address. Click Next.
    7. Select Hewlett-Packard from the list of manufacturers and select and select your printer model. Click Next.
If your printer model was not listed, then select Have Disk, browse the HP CD that came with your printer and select the first file that starts with hp and ends with inf. Click Open then OK. Select your printer model. Click Next.
    8. If you are asked, use the currently installed driver.
    9. It will ask for the Printer name -- enter a new name or use the existing one. This will be the name of the printer that you select from other applications.
    10. You may be asked to share the printer. Choose NO.
    11. The Print Test Page box appears. Go ahead and print it.
    12. Click Finish.

  • Can't print across network with LaserJet 1220

I'm trying to print across our home wireless network  from my Windows 7 64-bit computer to a LaserJet 1220 connected to a Windows XP 32-bit computer.  My computer sees the printer in the network, but when I try to install it on my computer, it searches the web for a driver but can't find one.  There must be a way to get this to work.  Any ideas?

    How about this?

  • HELP - I CAN'T PRINT !!

I have an HP OFFICEJET PRO 8600 ALL-IN-ONE.  For the last month or so I keep getting an error message saying "one of the devices attached to a USB port has malfunctioned and is no longer being recognized by your computer" or something to that effect - it briefly comes and disappears. I used to be able to get around this by unplugging, rebooting and it would print for a while and then stop. If I unplug the cable from the all-in-one to the laptop I hear a "ker-thunk" sound (2 notes down,  then 2 notes up). I don't know how to identify what needs replacing or other action to solve. HELP PLEASE !

    Welcome to the forums @51352
I read about how you cannot print and are having some issues with the USB connection to your laptop. I have some ideas in mind to try and get started, along with some questions for you.
Try updating the firmware on the printer: Getting the Latest Firmware and Product Updates
You can update the firmware from the front panel if the printer is connected wireless on the network, or you can plug in the USB cable and download the firmware update. If you are updating USB, click this link, select which OJ 8600 you have, your OS, Firmware and download: Drivers & Software
Next, reset the printer and ensure the printer is plugged in directly to the wall outlet, avoiding power bars and surge protectors. This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help greatly.
Try photocopies. This will test the printer hardware by itself, without having a command sent to it from the computer.
Please let me know the results so far and include which operating system you are running and if connecting either ethernet to a network or wireless on the network is an option.
    Thank you

  • HELP!  Can't print from iTunes

I've had this problem for quite some time now.....a year or two, actually. It has been with me at least since 10.3....if not before. Not to mention several revs of iTunes itself.
For some reason I am not able to print anything from iTunes. When I select Print, I get the stand print dialog box....but when I click the "Print..." button from the dialog box, the dialog box just goes away and leaves me back at the main iTunes browser window.
The same is true if I should click "Page Setup" from the Print dialog box. Dialog just goes away.

Any ideas would be a great help.

  • NEED HELP! Can't print song list...stops halfway!?

I can print a jewel-case insert and an album listing, but for some odd reason, whenever I try to print a song list (like a cd for example) it stops printing halfway! Can anyone help? I have tried saving it as a pdf file, still stops halfway. I have also tried restarting both my computer and printer.
    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

The problem is that when I print a jewel case insert, the song list comes out all skrunched up. I notified Apple, they are aware of problem...as of 6 weeks ago. The problem was verified and duplicated by them. Just try printing a jewel case insert with the songs of one of your playlists....you'll see what it does! It started after the last up date for me. It was ok before that. I know because I did a system restore to a date before the update and it worked. Then I tried doing the update again and the problem started up again. If only I could resort to the version before the last!

  • URGENT! Help! Can't print!

I did an archive and re-install of osx. Now I can no longer print. I have a Mac Pro and a HP Laserjet 2300 hooked up via an ethernet cable directly from one to the other. In my network prefs I keep getting a "self-assigned" IP for ethernet. I've tried everything I can think of and nothing works. I keep getting 169.254.28.48. I've clicked Renew DHCP Lease, and it does nothing. I copied over the old Network prefs, nothing. So when I go to add my printer, it sees nothing.

You're supposed to get a APIPA (self-assigned) address if you have the system set for DHCP and there's no DHCP server available... which is exactly the case in your situation. You need to do one of two things:
1 assign a fixed IP to your computer, and another one to the printer, with both IPs in the same subnet. Example: set the computer to 192.168.0.1 and the printer to 192.168.0.2. Now both will be on the same subnet and both will see each other and you will be able to print.
2 get a router and attach both the printer and the computer to the router. Most home routers are DHCP servers, and now the computer will have a DHCP-set IP. If your printer is also set to use DHCP, it will also have a DHCP-set IP, and in the correct subnet. Both computer and printer will be able to see the router and each other. You will be able to print.

  • Need help! Can not print a Pages item???

I am completely new to mac. I have just switched from windows and have been experimenting with pages am only used to publisher. I have created a poster in Pages using a template and it will not print, it spools. I have looked at everything imaginable trying to figure out what the problem is and am getting absolutely no where. We tried emailing it as a pdf so that we could maybe print it out from another workstation using windows. It attached put failed to send from both yahoo and gmail.
I have been considering purchasing IWork, but don't know after all this hassle.
If anyone out there can advise, please do. I am becoming a v. frustrated new mac user.
    Thank you!
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Some questions:
    1. How big is the Pages file?
    2. How big is the PDF file?
    3. What printer do you have?
    4. What did "fail to send" look like? An error message? A time out when you press the "send" button or the "attach file" button?
I would probably put the PDF on a memory stick or an SD Card from my camera and transfer it to the other machine, but it is strange that it does not print from the Mac.

  • Kerberos client not found-help! can't print!

I am posting this to the benefit of all who may have experienced the "Kerberos client not found" message after configuring CUPS for Kerberos authentication. After getting locked out of CUPS and not being able to add or delete printers I found in another google-search post a solution.
I edited the /etc/cups/cupsd.conf file using a terminal editor (vi) and changed the entry:
"DefaultAuthType Negotiate" to "DefaultAuthType Basic", then restarted the server and all worked fine after that, although I still haven't figured out what the problem is with CUPS and Kerberos interaction.
I hope this helps someone as I spent about a day and a half trying to figure out a solution.

  • Can't print across firewall to another subnet (server between two NICs)

I'm having a problem printing to an AirportExpress-served printer. Our network looks like this:
    (From Outside...>>>...to Inside)
    (Public IP) DSL Modem
    ...(10.0.0.x) Airport Express -- HP DesignJet 100 USB -- Airtunes/stereo
    ...(10.0.0.x) NetGear Wireless Router
    ...(10.0.0.x nic 0) Mac OS X Server (192.168.0.x nic1)
    ......(192.168.0.x) Mac OS X client
    ......(192.168.0.x) Mac OS X client
    ......(192.168.0.x) Mac OS X client
The printer driver does not appear to be able to do IP printing, it assumes a direct USB connection. We can setup the OS X Server with the printer served by the Airport Express, as it is found via Bonjour, and then we share its queue via Server Admin. The problem is that the LAN clients cannot print to this server queue. The printer gets stopped at the server.
If we turn OFF the OS X Server's firewall, printing works from both the clients and obviously from the Server. I think my question is this: what ports or services need to be turned on in order for the clients to print? There is no clear checkbox for "Bonjour Printer Sharing", and I'm curious what ports this would open, and if it would be safe. I thought it would work because we're pushing the print job up through the firewall, but apparently some response needs to come back through the firewall, and that's what's not happening.
And to tack onto this, how could we also push iTunes to the Airport Express from the Clients? Assuming the music goes over different ports than the print jobs. ?
Thanks in advance for any help.
    G4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

I've only been able to get it to work with my wife's HP laptop. So far, GIMP priting with the Mac is a no-go. It spools, but the printer just sits there.
As of now, I'm trying to print from my wife's desktop, which is an older model eMachines 1.1Ghz with XP Professional. Right now, it's just sitting there with a "Printing" window.
I have called Linksys, but to no avail. Couldn't understand they guy was speaking with. According to a networking friend of mine, there must be a PC host machine which is on all the time which acts as a "bridge" to get the files to the printserver. I don't know about that, but my father-in-law uses a PSUS4 to print wirelessly from 2 PC laptos with no problems.
Gonna try calling Linksys back and see if I get anywhere with that. If not, we'll try another route.
I'll post with what I find out.

  • My MacBook Pro can't print on LAN but sees the printer

I have two Windows PCs and my MacBook Pro on my new Applecare Extreme router. I have my HP3300lj attached to the Windows XP computer. My MacBook can see the printer on the network but will not print. Can anyone help. Is the problem on the Mac or PC side.

    If I'm right, it's both
HP laserjets almost always have two choices for driver when you add them on Windows. The default is PCL, and the other is postscript (says it in the driver name). The Mac driver is for postscript. You need to change to the postscript driver on Windows so it will recognize and be able to pass it along to the printer.

  • Can't print under Tomcat but no problem under sun application server 8!

    Hi,
I am rather puzzle by the fact that a programme written by me using all the print api and printable implementation when being called by the JSF page is capable of being successfullly print out when being deployed under sun application server 8 but got hang or met with no response when the same war file generated by the JSC 2 is being deployed onto Tomcat 5.17 .
Was it due to some missing jar file or api , I really have no idea at all
    Any suggestion please ?
    Thank

    Hi,
I got rather stupid question to ask regarding the font size.
if I got a font size of 10, I know it is only refering to the height in pixel , my problem start when I need to know , how many characters can I print across in a A4 size paper. The pixel point is 1/72 of an inch, it is vertical .
Is there any formula that I can use to determine how many characters per inch that particular font is supposed to print?
Suggestion that I received is to use trial and error method.
    Thank
