Help! I cannot play VCD with QuickTime Pro.

I tried to open a .DAT file with QuickTime Pro which alerted me with the following message:
QuickTime cannot open the file AVESQ04.DAT it is not a file that Qucik Time understands (-2048).
However, I read the Help in apple.com, they said it should work. What did I do wrongly???

I have found that if you copy the DAT files to your hard drive, and then change the "DAT" to "MPG" in the file name that Quicktime will play them.
It's been a while, so if I am wrong and "MPG" doesn't work, try "MOV" instead.
I'm pretty sure it was MPG though.
I remember I did this a long time ago, and it worked great.

  • Can anyone help with Quicktime Pro audio prob?

I've been trying to compress an audio/video file shot on my Cybershot so that I can upload on a contest website. Every time I copy into I-Movie, I have no audio (although it plays fine on my desktop). I was told I-Movie does not support muxed streaming. At Apple's recommendation, I upgraded to Quicktime Pro.
The audio and video both work fine when I play it in Quicktime Pro; but when I export it from Quicktime to either MPEG4 or Quicktime Movie, I get no audio. (Also, the audio setting area is grayed out.) Any suggestions? I need to send the file 320X240 around 15 mb by midnight tonight.
    Thanks for the help...

Use the "Export to DV" option. (Any of the sub options will work.) Split into segments if needed for older versions of iMovie.

  • Cannot open file in QuickTime Pro

I recently installed iTunes and QuickTime Pro on my computer. I would like to put some DVD's that I own onto my iPod, but when I put a movie in the DVD drive, I cannot open it through QuickTime Pro. I tried uninstalling both, restarting the computer, re-installing both, restarting, and still I cannot even play a movie through QuickTime Pro.

QuickTime pro doesn't display the MPEG-2 file format (DVD's) without third party software help. Apple sells the MPEG-2 Playback Component for $20 but it does not allow playback of commercial (Hollywood CSS encrypted) DVD's.
Visit the iPod discussions pages for more answers.

  • How do I Capture Streaming video with Quicktime Pro?

In Lamonts post about converting video for the iPod, it was pointed out that one can capture streaming video (Steve Jobs Keynote speech for instance), with Quicktime Pro. I have QT7.04 Pro, but don't know how to do this simple thing. Can someone please tell me?
    Smartmart

it's possible. i did it myself, after a few tryouts.
i still can't get the best result, but i got something.
first of all you have to save the streaming file(thru the save as qt movie, from CTRL-click). when you get a stream it gets cached on your computer. you might playback it even when offline. so if all that you need is a simple playback, that's ok. but it's a cache, sometime the system will erase it from your HD.
if you want to keep it as a qt file(or any other format) thats this is the deal. when you save the stream file, it saves a reference file(4kb) that reads the cache. you cannot recover them from the cache, not even by changing the termination, because the qt player won't recognize the .qtch files transformed into .mov.
open the file(reference you saved before), choose export from the file menu, and choose the setting that you want. i still don't get a good quality(i know it's incredible that a stream file has a better quality...) and i still have to export the video separated from the audio. but if you need only the moving image to edit a homevideo, and your only source is a stream, it's a start.
so if anyone feel like growing the knowledge tree, let's go ahead.

  • Since Yosemity and new iTunes i cannot play movies on macbook pro (missing HDCP ability)? Why is that?

Since Yosemity and new iTunes i cannot play movies on macbook pro (missing HDCP ability)? Why is that?
    regards Peter

Yesterday I had Apple phone support, they could partly solve the problem. At least I can use my Mac again to view movies but the problem of less resolution in itunes only is still there. My brother has the same macbook, same yosemity and same itunes. It works. Obviously it has to do with other SW on the Mac. Yesterday we removed Displaylink SW (i believe that was the name of the SW?) from my Mac. Perhaps it is not yet compatible with yosemity?

I cannot play music with my slideshows. I setup the music but it does not play, even with my older slideshows I hear no music.

This category is for iPod shuffle.  Is that the type of iPod you have, because your description of the problem does not sound like it's about a shuffle?  If it's not a shuffle, what is the iPod model...?
There is music there and I can play it connected to laptop.
Are you doing the playing using the iPod, or are you playing the music using iTunes on the laptop?
All mucis icons read "No music" and this is not correct
Do these icons with "No music" appear on the laptop's screen, or on the iPod's screen

  • "Cannot play video with this frame rate&qu

For reasons that aren't important here I cannot use the Zen video converting software. Instead, I've been using the trial version of the Caniusoft Video to Creative Zen converter. Only once has a video played, but as soon as I closed the video and opened it up again this message appeared. "Cannot play video with this frame rate." Daniusoft offers frame rates from 5 fps to 30. I've tried all of them and none of them work. Has this been a problem for others? Perhaps I need a different converter?
    ps.
..i'm converting flash video to avi. Does that make a difference?

I can't answer your question in full (maybe somebody else can). However, I am aware that both the Zen and the Zen X-Fi can only play video files up to 320x240 resolution. Previous players like the Vision M were able to scale files down to this resolution on the fly, but not these two newer players.

  • Capturing with QuickTime Pro?

I have much problems with capturing in FCE: missing frames, out of sync audio, one cassette ok - the second with problems.
Now I capture with QuickTime Pro and import in FCE.
    Is this procedure ok?

Excuse me, I forgot: several miniDV cassettes from two different cameras. The camera I use for capturing is yet another (Medion MD 9090) camera.
With iMovie there is no problem to capture but I have learned this is not the right way.
With QuickTime Pro there is also no problem, so I use it now.
Can there any problems using QTP for capturing instead of using FCE?

your new lion-machine should have quicktime 7, too. if it doesn't, and if it doesn't show up after you migrated your stuff from you old machine you can always reinstall it from the logic dvd's, it's part of logic. my recommendation is to always use quicktime 7, since it's got many features that are absent in quicktime x. quicktime x is nothing but a polished video player. in quicktime 7 (pro, comes with logic) you can even do edits and paste your music onto video files. i use it all the time, especially since logic 64bit doesn't export to video anymore.

  • Encode DV to H.264 for iPod with Quicktime Pro - iPod won't play file

    Hello,
I have been trying to encode Microsoft DV or Pinnacle DV AVIs into MPEG4 (H.264) for iPod, BUT the resulting files do NOT play in an iPod!?
    I use Quicktime Pro for Windows (v7.1) and use the Apple recommended settings, here are the exact settings I have tried and failed in an iPod;
VIDEO: H.264 at 200kbps, Baseline Profile, 25fps, Auto Key Frames, 320x240 or 640x480, Multipass Best quality encoding.
AUDIO: AAC Audio at 96kbps, 24kHz sampling freq, Stereo.
I'm actually doing it for a client and they cannot play the file, they apparently have to 'convert' my file in their MAC based iTunes for it to work.
Anyhow can anyone please give me an idea if I am doing something wrong?

Do you have H.264 codec enabled in the plugins list of Firefox?
Does this happen in the most recent version of JWplayer?
There was an error loading the media:

In that one there were two errors: needed a higher version of Flash installed and the codec issue. As you mentioned this had been narrowed down to the codec of the mp4 file. And this codec is added with the default cisco h.264 player. [https://gigaom.com/2014/10/14/h-264-support-arrives-in-firefox-thanks-to-cisco-but-h-264-web-videos-still-wont-play/]

  • Cannot Play Videos In Quicktime 7 Pro

    Hello,
I have just purchased QuickTime 7 Pro so i can convert my .AVI Video files to .M4V so i can play and list them in my itunes film library.
However when i try to play a film i get 1 of 2 problems.
    1) the film plays but no sound OR audio is played but the film acts as if its playing.
    2) the film plays audio only however the audio is skipping and jumping and clicking through out and there is NO Video.
I have downloaded Xvid encoders and DIVX Encoders but these do not seem to have changed anything.
any help would be great as i have just spent £20 on QuickTime 7 Pro for the conversion feature that i cannot use because of the above errors. (when i do convert a film its just blank)
    Cheers.

i have spent £20 on a program that does not do as it was intended for (as it stated it did
Nothing in Apple's literature or documentation says that it handle XVID. And the DivX formats are that company's responsibility; Apple mentions DivX, but they don't make the codec. So QuickTime Pro is probably doing exactly what was stated. You might talk to DivX about the DX50 movies. I can't see anything on their site that says that their codec pack works with QuickTime Player on Windows systems, but there might be something I'm missing.
As to a refund, probably not. Apple's standard policy on any electronic software purchase is that there are no refunds. This is especially likely when the problem is not with QuickTime but rather than your needs differ from what QuickTime offers. You can contact the Apple Store and ask, though.
    Regards.

  • I NEED HELP WITH QUICKTIME PRO!!!!

I JUST BOUGHT QUICKTIME PRO AND I AM TRYING TO MAKE A FAMILY DVD WITH VIDEOS FROM MY VIVITAR DVR 840XHD CAMCORDER. I PLUG IN THE CAM THRU MY USB AND WHEN I GO TO OPEN THE VIDEO'S WHICH ARE SAVED AS .AVI FORMAT, QUICKTIME SAYS THAT I NEED TO DOWNLOAD THIRD PARTY CONNECTIONS AND NO VIDEO'S SHOW UP. I DOWNLOADED EVERY SINGLE CONNECTION EXCEPT DIVX BECAUSE IT DOESNT SUPPORT MY PPC UNIT AND STILL I GET NO PICTURE OR SOUND...ITS JUST PITCH BLACK. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO I DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE I NEED IN ORDER TO VIEW MY VIDEOS ON QUICKTIME PRO. I DO USE A HD SD CARD BUT I DON'T THINK THATS THE PROBLEM...PLEASE IF SOMEONE KNOW'S WHAT TO DO PLEASE HELP ME OUT ASAP...THANK YOU.

PLEASE IF SOMEONE KNOW'S WHAT TO DO PLEASE HELP ME OUT ASAP
AVI is a file container -- not a compression format. To know what codec you need, you have to check the Finder "Information", QT "Inspector", QT 7 Pro "Properties", or similar multimedia window that will tell you what audio and/or video codec was used to encode your file. If the codec is available for the Mac, you would then download and install the specif component or component package providing the needed support. Most common AVI components are supported by the Perian component package... but not all. If you simply ant to try a "hit or miss" installation approach, then you should propably start here if you have not already installed the latest version. However, be sure to read the warnings regarding known conflicts with certain other components which now may have to be removed.

  • None of my video's in iPhoto will play with Quicktime Pro

Good evening everyone, I installed Snow Leopard today, and I had Quicktime Pro, after the install it was in my Applications, Utilities folders, and I can open it, and my registration key for pro is there, but when I click on a video in iPhoto it opens with Quicktime X. How do I open them with Pro? Thanks so much!

I found the solution in case anyone is having the same problem. If you open Quicktime Pro in Snow Leopard, choose file, then open file, and then you can open any video with the pro features that way. Hope this helps some one!
