Help I cant flash bios on PT880

Just got my new mobo up and trying to flash the bios but cant, I type in the AMI flash program from dos and all I get is a bunch of  mumbo jumbo like this
COMMAND>
     ?:HELP
    _B Disable boot programming
(you get the idea? )
I went to msi website
http://www.msicomputer.com/support/BIOS_AMI.asp
but when I type C: as instructed all I get is invalid drive peramerators
this sucks I am sitting at the dos screen now booted from a start up disk (win ME)

That method is for flashing from a c: drive.
Try this method:
Go to
http://www.bootdisk.com/
and get a Win98 OEM boot disk. Follow the instructions to prepare a bootable floppy disk.
Copy your flash program and bios image to a second disk.
Boot from the Win98 floppy. This will create a ram drive c:
Change to that drive by typing
C:
Then put in your bios floppy and copy all the files to the c drive:
copy a:*.*
Then flash by typing
flashprog biosname.ver
where flahsprog is the name of the exe file contained in the package from the MSI web site and biosname.ver is the bios file you are flashing, which is also contained in the package from the MSI web site.

i will go back to the shop and i will say "Live update crashe during its bios update procedure " !
That won't work, flashing BIOS voids warranty.

You either clear the CMOS, or don't boot your board.

I have a Qosmio X505-Q870 that I bought 3 months ago. I updated to ACPI Flash BIOS version 2.60 today, as suggested by the Toshiba installation tools. I ran the update in Windows 7( didn't know this is dangerous) and it successfully completed, before it shuts down normally. When I try ti turn it on, the power LED is on, but the screen is blank. I tried to turn it off by pressing the power button for 20 seconds, but the computer would not turn off. What should I do now?

    Hello
manual of Z77 report "do not multi-BIOS  switch when the system is powered on".
I have to go anymore ?
    Ty,
    Adry aka Caronte
ignore that in this situation as its the only way to recover the Failed BIOS without paying a shop to SPI flash the failed chip! (switching BIOS while its on will only cause errors on the chip you switched to but as yours is bricked it cant make it any worse) this will allow you to tell that BIOS CHIP upon restart to Flash by imprinting a copy of the open M-FLASH utility to the chip that can then allow the chip to be re flashed to a functional recovered state.
so just disregard that warning in the manual as the described way we have suggested has a good track record of successfully recovering a bricked chip on M-Power and other boards outfitted with the Multi BIOS hardware switch so just give it a go and all should be good.
the live switching to recover BIOS has been successfully done many times and the info in the manual doesn't have any weight regarding Bricked Chips only ones that are functioning correctly...

  • Flashing bios + ME ofZ87-G45 Gaming Mainboard from 1.5 to the latest 1.9.

I  have been reading and watching a lot of videos on the subject..including the general threads here.
So my understanding has become ...  do not use  liveupdate 6 (mine can't even tell what I have installed).  M-flash is the official way to flash bios and it works well if you choose uefi + ME.
I want to flash my bios because my USB 3 front ports have always been flaky and hoping for a bit more system stability (4 cpu hardware corrected errors since put together system in march) and in ultra rare case  system will become unresponsive. Plus, will have room to upgrade to new cpu in future.
I did not enable the overclocking in the bios, but it is enabled.  From what I have read ..is it then true that I must disable this before flashing?
I have also downloaded the 1.9 bios for my Z87-G45 Gaming Mainboard and placed it on a USB 2.0 flash drive that must be plugged into a back usb 2.0 port (though mouse and keyboard are in the legacy ports).
My understanding is that I simply have to boot into the bios ...with the usb stick plugged in ..  disable the overclocking and then choose upgrade uefi bios + ME.   choose the file  listed and wait.  When it is flashed, it will reboot and then flash ME.
My question here is .. how will it flash ME?  does the bios file also have the ME information?
And after the bios is successfully updated  and set back to how it was set before the flash ...  the last step, I understand ..is to install the ME driver package ...  I have the ME10  zip of 75 meg ready.
Do I understand this correctly ...  other than needing to know how ME gets flashed from the one bios file (which is E7821IMS.190)?
Is there anything else I need to ask to make this update foolproof?
    TIA for the help )

To make it foolproof follow the below, it will update bios and ME firmware. After flashing ME driver needs to be reinstalled in Windows too.
    >>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<
A.) Download the attached archive (E7817IMS_660.rar.rar) and place it on your desktop. Do not decompress.
B.) Download and install the Forum flash tool.
C.) Insert your FAT32 formatted usb stick.
D.) Make sure that all win 8 options are disabled. (Fast Boot etc) Also make sure the legacy USB is enabled.
E.) Start the forum flash tool and select option 1. Then point the tool at the compressed archive we downloaded earlier. Then to your USB Flash Drive.
         F.) Boot to the USB
G.) Now follow the directions and let the tool flash
H.) After flashing reinstall ME drivers in Windows:  http://download.msi.com/dvr_exe/intel_amt90_mb.zip

  • Help! Z77A-Gxx - Bios

I need some help with a new build that I built only a couple of months ago.
Z77A-G41 (according to box from MicroCenter, but Liveupdate says MS-7758 which is G43)
    i3570k 3.2Ghz (4.2Ghz OC)
    8Gb DDR3 1600 (800Mhz)
I had flashed my Bios to the lastest ver 2.9 and now I have things missing from bios that were there before including OC Gene All Functionality, Sleep/Hibernate ability, Wake ability, When booting it scrolls through Hex Codes in the lower right of the screen and flashes the Bios Flash Screen multiple times before actually loading Windows.
Someone please help me get my bios reset back to a stable/factory bios version!
before I flashed my bios I had saved the factory version of bios via M-Flash program inside the bios. Trying to load the image gives me an error that it is not a recognized image type. is this!?
I had called MSI Customer Support line and they told me to pull the Bios/Clock battery and let the computer sit without power for an extended period of time, which I did. I was hoping doing this would revert the bios version back to 2.0x but it still says 2.9. I still do not have OC Gene functions, Sleep/Hibernate, wake functions and the Hex codes are still there, but the bios splash screen no longer flashes and it now loads windows quickly like it was before I flashed.

USB stick formatted FAT32. Use the 'Fix My USB Key' feature, the stick will now be properly prepped. Just point the flasher to the BIOS file, do not open it or decompress it, the flasher will set it up for you. At the restart prompt, enter BIOS and set the USB stick as the only boot device, save and exit and it should begin the flash prompt with a screen asking you if you want to proceed. Tell it yes and watch it do it's thing.

  • What we need - a guide on how to flash bios, setup bios, and raid

Ok, a topic I see very often on many forums, and several times here, is the following; How to flash bios, how to setup the bios settings, and how to setup the raid array, and then setup the bios to boot from the raid array. Could we perhaps pull our heads togheter and write a detailed guide on these three topics, taking into account how to do it on the most used (commonly written about) MSI boards? and perhaps put as a sticky?
It would help many novice users trying to deal with these problems. I am willing to write on the subject of flashing bios on the MSI K8N SLI Platinum and how to install a Bios Saviour.

    hi john12,
Just to verify, is your machine type included in the list below? If not, this is most likely the reason why the BIOS update won't continue.
    Flash BIOS update - 3000 J100 (type 8252, 8253, 8254, 8453, 8454, 8455)
You can find the MTM (Machine Tpe Model) printed on the tower or by typing dxdiag on a command prompt / run dialog box.

  • How can i flash bios without floppy drive

i need help with flashing bios without a floppy because although the floppy is in windows and the bios every time i try to use it, it says to insert a disc i have seek floopy enabled and it post as if it is ok the drive works i have tried 2 drives 2 cables and turned the cables round tried all i can i think lol ....
    thanks guys

it can also be done using a CD-rom. I flashed my BIOS twice using cd-rom. Use Nero or any cd-writing program to write the bios files you download to a CD. Afterwards, just use the Windows 98 installation cd to boot into DOS, then take out the Windows 98 CD and put in the CD with the BIOS files on it and run the program just like from a floppy.

  • K7T 266 Pro2 - bad flash ,bios chip manufacturer wanted

Hi, i've problem like many others, i've flashed my PRO2 Mother board with bios file of PRO2-A(the picture of PRO2 in msi site is bad, i've cooler on my northbridge and there isn't, but it's my mistake  ) now i want to reprogram it and i need know the name or type you know, of  that bios chip to reflash it with chip programer ,i can't see that name because after i unsticked the ami seal from chip, the text on chip have dissapeared  ,can somebody help me with this? The only which is possible to see is the manufacturer - maybe EON or smthng similarly i'm not sure,i need to know all that is on that chip, thanx for help saculcz

Its probably just a bricked board. I suggest you phone your local PC shops and find out which one has a ISP programmer. That way they can flash the latest, or any BIOS version for that matter, onto the current BIOS chip, ensuite.  Here is an example of such a programmer http://www.xeltek.com/In-System-Programmers/SuperPro-IS01/
Fry's Electronics in the US seems to be quite helpful from what I understand. That is of course if you are from the US.
You can download the latest BIOS from the MSI site and take that along on a USB flash drive, and they will be able to flash it for you, at a fee of course, normally.
Else you can search the web for companies that specialise in sending you ready flashed BIOS chips, which will of course cost money as well and means you have to solder it onto the board.
Alternatively you can send the board to a MSI technical centre and they will also do the job.
You will have to weigh up the costs and time effort and decide.
