Help!!!! I cant install Leopard

I bought a G5 from a buddy of mine and I am trying to install Leopard but it prompts me for his username and password and I have no idea what it is and have no way of getting it from him. Is there a way to over ride it or retrieve the password? I want to wipe the whole os off and start new with Leopard. Are there any other options?
thanks,
C

"I dont have the disc."
Get them from the seller (your buddy). You will need the system DVDs to troubleshoot.
You can get replacement System Install & Restore CD/DVDs from Apple's Customer Support - in the US, (800) 767-2775 - for a nominal S&H fee. You'll need to have the model and/or serial number of your Mac available.

  • Cant Install Leopard Help!

To start out we have an older Macbook Pro with an Intel Core Duo 1.83 GHz and a Power Mac4,5 with an PowerPC G4 (2.1). Both Computers have Tiger 4.11 but now we are trying to install/upgrade them to Leopard and eventually Snow Leopard. When I try to install Leopard it asks for the preferred language after I select the language it begins to load and then abruptly stops and says that if cannot install the software. Is their anything I can Do?

    Hi
Also your proposed OS migration path is unnecessary.
You do not need to put leopard on macs and then change to Snow Leopard later on. For whatever machines are capable, go immediately to SL.
As stated, using a specific Mac install disk will not work on other machines. You need to buy a proper retail version (black discs) for generic installing on any machine, then use Software Update to upgrade to latest iteration for functionality and security.

  • Help - tried to install leopard over tiger on iBook G4 and cannot boot up

My ibook G4 apparently does not have enough disk space to enable me to install leopard; shame, BUT in process of finding this out I cannot restart in Tiger - machine spends 3-4 mins trying then powers down to black screen.
    Any help/advice gratefully received...
    Thanks, Bob

Hi Bob, and a warm welcome to the forums!
    Do you have a Backup?
Do you have a bootable external drive?
Do you have another Mac around so you could use FW Target Mode to clear some space...

If none of the above, then using your Install Disk to Erase everything and start over completely is about the only ting left.
Due to temporary files, RAM Discs, VM, you need twice what they say minimum to install... 20 GB free.

  • HELP I cant install itunes 10.5 on Vista

My husband is going to kill me...I was trying to update iTunes so I could update my iPad and I kept getting the same error message, "The installer has insufficient priviledges to modify this file: C\programfile\apple software update\softwareupdate.resources\software update.tiff" So  I stupidly uninstalled iTunes and now it won't reinstall - I get the same error message. I don't know what to do! I attempted to uninstall the Apple Software Update program as well but I kept getting error messages telling me I don't have permission...  I'm about ready to panic.... Our computer has Vista running on it...

Hello Vista People!  It has taken me an entire day to fix the problem that NOT A SINGLE POST clearly answered the issue of "cant install iTunes 10.5" on my vista machine.  Or worse yet, the problem I was getting was a Windows Installer error.  What I discovered was that there was a corrupted Apple Software Update program.  When I did as so many have suggested, and uninstalled all the Apple products, and then reinstalled, and was unable to get a iTunes 10.5 to install.  The key to notice if you have this problem is that when you look in the Control Panel>Programs>Programs and Features, you will notice that Apple Software Update is showing, but there is no "publisher"....there is a file size, about 2.5 mb for me (yours could be different).  And when you right clicked or 'selected' the program in the the "uninstall or change a program" mode in the Control Panel>Programs>Programs and Features you would not get anything to do.  You couldnt uninstall it.  So after uninstalling and reinstalling repeatedly, I noticed that the Apple Software Update simply was not able to be 'changed'.  So, I downloaded from Microsoft "Fixit" the program called:  Microsoftfixit.ProgramInstallUninstall.run.exe  found here:  http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall  I then ran this program and when asked how I wanted it to work, I selected the equivalent of "Let me" make the decisions, (Not the automatic fix) and then selected that I wanted to "Uninstall".  When it finished running, it gave me a list of programs to 'uninstall' and I selected Apple Software Update.  When it completed, I checked the Control Panel>Programs and Apple Software Update was gone.  Once it was gone, I was able to install iTunes 10.5 without a problem, and better yet, I also noticed after the installation, in the Control Panel>Programs Apple Software Update was listed with a Publisher.  Now everything works.  I believe there is some issue with Vista corrupting the Apple Software Update software during the uninstall process and Windows Installer doesn't deal with it correctly.  I hope at least one other person can benefit from this, because NOWHERE did anyone do, suggest or clearly advise on how this was to be done.

"There was a problem reading the Mac OS X Install DVD, carefully clean the disc and try installing again".
My dvd reader is working fine, i dont knwo what is the problem, the dvd is not damaged.
    what should i do now?

I know it sounds bland but what else can you do but clean it.   Try something like a spectacles wipe.   As it is new, you always have the option of changing it.

  • Help !  cant install OS on ibook

my ibook G3/800 had its hard drive wiped i tried to install Panther on it today and the CD-Rom drive keeps ejecting the disc any help?
    Thanks

Was your optical drive having problems prior to being erased, or did this problem only occur after the hard drive was erased? Also, did you run Disk Utility to verify the hard drive and repair if necessary prior to erasing the hard drive?
Also, when you try to boot from the CD, be sure and hold down "C" until a screen comes up.
If the optical drive just won't work, you may have to work around it somehow. Do you have access to another Mac? If so, you could try using firewire Target Disk Mode to access the hard drive on the iBook and see if it needs repair by Disk Utility. Also to see if it has been properly formatted.
I don't know much about firewire disk mode myself since I have never had two computers working at the same time, but I think that might be of help here. But it would be best to be guided by one of the more knowledgeable and experienced members of this forum on just what to do. If you happen to have access to an external optical drive, you could try that too.
    Good luck!

  • Need help! Cant Install the New WINXP Pro with SPK2 on it!

Please Help before I chuck this board back to where it came from...
Iam having major issues with a K8N Neo Platinum NF250g and a New WINXP Pro with SPK2 on it already.
The problem is that WINXP Pro wont get pass the setup stage after a full format.
It gets to about 45 to 56% and then the famous Blue Sceen of Death appiers with a problem saying that " If you have any new Hardware or Software installed to remove it or disalble it...
My first thourts where I havent plug somthing in right. So I go and check everything and find that theres nothing wrong. I do it again and same thing BSOD again. So me thinks maybe my graph card has  it self. Put my old MSIFX5700.
boot up, quick format and samething again. So I think maybe the ram isint sitting in right. Move Geil DRR 400 512m to DIMM2 and well it didint boot up. LOL.
So I move it back and take out me Sound Blaster Live 5.1 and then trying the whole all over again. Quick Format. Now in Setup 45% Blue Screen of Death...
I have even tried swapping HD's around and still got the same resault.
So I decided to install a Coppied Version with WINXP Pro with Service PK1 on it.
It acuttuly got passed the setup and finaly booted windows.
I was starting to think that the WINXP pro I brought was stuffed. Untill I installed Doom3, StarWars BattleFront and FarCry. All of the games will with in 5mins of starting up. I get the  windows saying that it has encouted an error at this adress
    STOP: 0x000000A (0x408ce16c, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x80818652)
This is same as what I get with the Blue Screen of Death.
The only thing that I can think of is that the AGP port is stuffed.
Please can someone help me solve this problem!!!.
    System Specs:
    AMD64 3000+
    K8N Neo Platinum NF250g
    Geil 512 DDR 400
    Thermal Take 400w PSU
    Sapphire 9800XT 256m
    2* WDJB 120g 8m Cached
    1* WD200g
    Sound Blaster Live 5.1
Thermal Take : Tsunami Dream Case

Seriously - It could be as asimple as a badly recorded CD/DVD.
I have a DVD with winxp+sp2 slipstreamed, plus unattended setup + it installs all my apps, drivers and registry changes :D (http://unattended.msfn.org is a great site for this )
Anyway - I had exactly the same problem and I thought it was this motherboard and did all kinds of , formatting FAT/NTFS removing RAM blah blah blah. after about 10 failed install attempts, I re-recorded the DVD on my GF's machine (I keep the .iso as a backup!)
And boom 1st time no problems

Leopard is no longer available at the Apple Store but may be available by calling Apple Phone Sales @ 1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753).
If you can't obtain a retail install DVD from Apple, look on eBay or Google the installer part numbers to possibly find at an on-line store. Here's what to look for:
    MB427Z/A  Leopard 10.5.1 install DVD
    MB576Z/A  Leopard 10.5.4 install DVD
MB021Z/A  Leopard 10.5.6 install DVD (single user)
MB022Z/A  Leopard 10.5.6 install DVD (5-user family pack)

After you install the base 10.5, download & install the 10.5.8 combo update at http://support.apple.com/downloads/Mac_OS_X_10_5_8_Combo_Update
if your disc is not a black one with a big X on it, and one of the above serial nos. it won't work.
No grey disc or any with "upgrade" or "drop in" on the label will work.

  • Installing Leopard using my second monitor?

I'm trying to help my mother install leopard. I got her a Powerbook a while back, but in the interim her cat knocked her computer off the table and screwed up monitor (thankfully that was all!). It was too much for us to get it repaired, so I bought her a monitor keyboard and mouse to use, so now she basically has a "messy" desktop computer. (I cringe, but she loves it..).
The problem is, even when I have the second monitor set as the "main" monitor, the installer will only run on the broken laptop monitor... it does not want to run on the working monitor! I can't move the installer window or anything, and I can't see the prompts to get the installation going...
Any ideas other than getting her laptop fixed?

    Hey -
I talked to someone in an apple store, and they said it is possible if you have a second apple computer and a firewire cable. Apparently you can load an OS using Target Disk Mode (hold down the "T" key on the laptop with the broken screen during startup), and put the install DVD into the working Apple computer. If the computers are connected via Firewire cable, the hard drive for the broken screen laptop should show up as a hard drive on the working computer. Run the installer on the working computer, and just select the hard drive of the broken one as the destination drive to install on, and apparently it'll work great.
Unfortunately, I have not been able to make sure this works myself as I am back from visiting my mother and did not have a firewire cable to use while I was there.... I will try it the next time I visit, but the good news is the employee said there should be information on their site for how to Install an OS using Target disk mode, and he was somewhat right. I found this support post that should be helpful to you.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58583
If you could post up your results when you're done and let me know if it worked, I'd appreciate it. My mother needs a new computer in the near future anyway, but she only uses it for email and the internet so it would be much more cost effective to just keep her current laptop up to date, rather than buy her a new iMac!
    Good luck!
(P.S. I'm not sure what YOUR reasoning is behind not fixing your laptop monitor, but I did some research and you can find the necessary monitor part on eBay, and bring it in to an Apple certified shop, or chance it yourself, and according to my estimates, the cost was cut in half or more! I'm fairly tech savvy, so I would've attempted it myself, but the eBay post I found offered the screen, casing, and instructions for about $400... that's much better than the $1300 quote I got from Apple! Even if you brought it to a shop and only paid for "labor" it would still be less than if they got the part for you and marked it up.)

  • Have reformatted my Imac using original discs (installed leopard (10.5)) tried to do the software update but it cant download the itunes update and when it gets to the configure update screen after restart for main update, it just gets stuck. HELP!

have reformatted my Imac using original discs (installed leopard (10.5)) tried to do the software update but it cant download the itunes update and when it gets to the configure update screen after restart for main update, it just gets stuck. HELP!
The configure bar gets about an 1/8 full and then just does nothing. I think its lists the update as combo update? cant remember with out checking.
I have tried to do the disk verify and repair but this has made no difference.
Please let me know what i need to do, I have reformatted the mac just to start over as was clogged with a lot of useless data, I had installed lion (10.7) from the app store previously and now cant seem to find a way to re install lion. I hope I dont need to pay for it again?

If you erased your hard drive, you'll need to reinstll OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard to access the App store. You won't have to pay for OS X 10.7 Lion again. Did you try booting to the recovery partition by holding the command and r keys down? If that's still there, you can reinstall OS X 10.7 from there.
If you're looking to install the current iTunes, you need OS X 10.6.8 at a minimum.
If you're still trying to update OS X 10.5 Leopard, you can download the combo update from here.  Download, use Disk Utility to repair permissions, apply the update, then repair permissions again. That will take you to OS X 10.5.8.
