HELP! I dont even know where to start with Time Machine!
Hi there,
Ive just bought an external hard drive to use for some audio software I use, and I thought I would use it for Time Machine backups too.
I have set up 3 partitions, one for my audio, one for Time Machine and a small partition for other files.
I ran Time Machine a couple days ago and today it ran out of space. It suggested I select files to include in Time Machine but I just want it to overwrite the backup each time. It is unlikely I would need weeks and weeks of backup because other than new files I create, whats on the main hard drive doesnt change too much.
I cant seem to find any options to do with how often I back up, and its behaviour when the drive is full.
Could someone please point me in the right direction?!

The above are two good places to start, but there's a few things to know too:
How big is your computer's HD?
How big is your Time Machine HD?
How big is each partition?
Do you use Entourage?
The most important thing to remember is that Time Machine backs up EVERYTHING unless you tell it otherwise. The exclude options are in the Time Machine preferences, and you can add whatever you want -- just remember it's not backed up. I asked about Entourage because it stores and constantly modifies one single file containing all your email, making Time Machine think it's a different version and keeping many copies of that file. It's fine if it's maybe 200 MB or so, but at 1 GB, different versions will eat your HD very quickly.

Dont even know where to start...weird problems with itunes and touch
I dont even know what is going on. My touch for example sorted by artist will show 2 of the same artist. "HIM" and "HiM" although in the itunes library and even in the touch's tab it doesnt show up. Only on the touch. There are many other artists that will show a duplicate on the touch but not on itunes. I dont exactly understand how the whole "syncing" thing does but ive tried to sync the ipod to the library.

Try to deselect "sync music" in the music pane in itunes. Syncing will take off all your music after that. Then select to sync your music again and see if this clears your selection on your ipod.

Royally Messed Up Page - Don't Even Know Where to Start

This is my first post here - I inherited the managment of this website as part of my day to day tasks and know very little about properly operating Dreamweaver CS3...just enough to be dangerous.

This is worrisome. It's not Dreamweaver you should be learning but code basics. If you don't know code basics, DW is going to continue to punish you.

Errors in code are responsible for 98% of browser rendering issues. You have more than a few to work on starting with a valid document type. Without one, your web pages render in Quirks Mode which is geek speak for a confused mess.
Open your main Template.dwt file.
To add a document type in DW, go to Modify > Page Properties > Title/Encoding tab and choose a doc type that fits your coding skills. I recommend XHTML transitional. Hit OK.
Next, Validate code and fix reported errors using the tools below.

Basic How to Question: Don't even know where to start
I have a graphic taking up 1/8 of the size of a solid band of colour in a web banner. I want to take one edge of the shape of the graphic and do a kind of gradient blend but not of the colour, of the shape. Kind of like a ladder with the steps getting smaller, evenly or smoothly to solid colour.
I've tried searching for tutorials but don't even know what it might be called or what particular tools to use. Can someone point me in the right direction please?

MartinSearch for blends. If you want the color to not change then both object will have to be the same color. The blend effects the stroke as well, so if you want it to be smooth, give the stroke no color.

DWYou can use ANY of the apps Pat mentioned to CREATE the fillable form in PDF format.
Integration into your website is another task altogether. There are several options and the fine folks over in the Dreamweaver forum can and will advise you on what's best for your situation. I personally use a script called PDFObject to "embed" PDFs into the page directly. It's pretty much a "plug and play" script, but you HAVE TO know what goes where and how to amend the code as necesary or it won't work properly. Again, people in the DW forum can help with that, but if it's not something you're comfotable with, it might be time to seek out a new webmaster. -
Don't know where to start with replicating ZFS in a two node cluster
I've got two systems in a lab I'm trying to use to make a ZFS based SAN for a VMWare cluster. I have experience with Linux and Gluster which was easy to have Active/Active High availability, however the benefits of ZFS I'm ok with Active/Passive. The issue I can't get around is finding out the solution in Solaris 11.2 that will mirror the data from the primary node to the secondary node and allow the secondary node to serve and receive data when the primary is down. This is a lab, so I'm not prepared or able to purchase a solution like EMC until I already have some proof of concept. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated

for me this sounds like to failover the zfs filesystem from primary to secondary when the primary goes down. In such a case you can simply use the SUNW.HAStoragePlus resource with property "Zpools" to failover the zpool from one node to the other. The disks where the zfs is located should be in SAN and accessible from all nodes in the Solaris Cluster. There is no need to replicate data in such a scenario. An example is available in:

Okay so i was updating someone picture in my contacts it kept loading for a long time so i held the home button and the power button it slowly went black like it faded out and went black i tried everything i dont even know what wrong i been had a crack on my phone and like i can see thats its light so like what do i do cause i tried plugging it into the computer and stuff and the computer dosent even bring up the logo which means the computer dosent reconize that my iphone is plugged in i had this problem before except it went white pleaase help

Multiple problems with 80GB classic, don't know where to start.

I got an Apple classic 80GB for my bday early August and lately i've been having so many problems i dont know where to start, i'll try to explain them as best as i can.
*problem 1:* Whenever i plug my iPod into my PC, it locks up the system for about 5 minutes, then comes up with an error box saying that 'There is a problem with your iPod yadda yadda restore etc'.
I proceed to restore the iPod, then once its restored and reconnects itself, it repeats the cycle by freezing then telling me to restore. The only way i can do a restore and have it not give me an error is if i reboot when it is disconnected.
*Problem 2:* When i finally get it up and ready to sync, i go to sync all my files (About 2000 songs). It gets to around the 1500 song mark then says there is an error and the iPod disconnects itself.
It then instantaneously reconnects itself and starts syncing from where it left off.
Once it has then sync'd all of the music ad tells me its ready to be ejected. I eject the iPod and disconnected it.
I then go into the iPod and it has no songs/videos/photos, yet it has still used up about 15gb. If i reconnect it, it will just sit there for 5 minutes not syncing, it will then randomly say the sync is done and it will eject itself.
FINALLY after all that i have my music on there
*Problem 3* Once the songs are on the iPod, it becomes insanely laggy. If i navigate to a song and press play, it will take about 10 seconds for the actual song to play. The delay is just as bad for next song, pause etc. Even using it in my cars head unit causes it to lag.
*Problem 4* If i do get a song playing after all that, about 1/5 songs will just randomly skip to the next song without letting it play through.
I have all the latest iTunes/Firmware/Drivers for everything on my PC and iPod.
I have sent it back to Apple for repair yet they could not find anything wrong (Yeah right :|)
If anyone out there could help me please, im at my wits end with this infernal machine.

*Computer needs updates:* I've got the latest drivers for all of my hardware, including BIOS
*Software interference:* THe only other program i have running in the background is Kaspersky Antivirus, but that is disabled when i try to sync
*Damaged Files* Possibly, i played through the album where it froze at and even reo-imported it, it seemed to play and import fine
*Unregistered .dll files (Windows):* Tried this fix, but it did the same problems as the original post. Such as freezing on a certain song, then reconnecting itself only to put the music on there, yet it is really laggy
*Damaged disk structure:* Tried this fix, didn't help
*Corrupt iPod photo Cache* I have never tried to put photos on it, so i dont see how this could be it.
*Lost connection:* Checked it, it's very firm and unlikely to come loose.
*Conflict with third-party hardware:* I dont have any connected, nor have i ever
*Bad hardware:* I tried it on all of my 8 USB drives. I dont use any hubs or firewire cards so this couldn't be it.
Also i forgot to add that 1/5 times i go to restore, it locks the computer up and windows gives me a 'delayed write failed' bubble -
Hi there, my internet is crashing everytime I use my macbook pro/safari it happens roughly every 2 mins, it can happen on any website.
I am not technical at all and I am at a total loss of where to start with this. I did a bit of research on the internet but no luck in finding any

Basically I am not sure if it is a modem of safari problem. I have no problems when using my HP on without windows explorer on the internet.

I have had problems with internet.
Safari brings up a page you are not connected to the internet. I then look at the modem and DSL and internet lights are both flickering and or/off.
They then re-set themselves. I then have to re-set preferences on safari and quit and restart.
I have also tried using with cable into mac and modem and no difference.
I can only figure that maybe Safari is not compatible with the modem? could this be the case?

The first thing to try is changing your DNS settings - and for that you need to open System Preferences, then the
Network section.
In Network - click on Advanced - then the DNS tab
under DNS servers - use the + button to enter two extra lines
either these, from google dns
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4
or from OpenDNS
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
then click OK & then 'Apply'
You would need to do that seperately for the Cable (Ethernet) settings and Wireless (Airport) -
why when i want to download a free app from app store it asks for my apple id and when i give my apple id it then says "this apple id has not yet been used in the itunes store". i dont even know what that means and it will this happen everytime?
If you are within 14 days of purchase you can still return the iPhone and get the phone that suits your needs, however, I think you will find that no matter which phone you get the content provider will want to know how you are going to pay for future purchases. For Android phones it is Google, and they will certainly want to know.

I'm having lots of problems with my Macbook, don't know where to start.
I've got an Intel Core 2 Duo Macbook, about 4-5 years old, running 10.5.8. It's set up with two logins, one each for my wife and I. We're having problems with several things:
Every time I open a PDF, Acrobat asks for my administrator password and reinstalls itself.
We use OpenOffice - but every time we quit the application, it opens right up again and recovers the last doc we were working on.
We use two airport express routers - one to create the wireless network and run the printer, one to stream music to the stereo, mostly via Airfoil. It seems overly complex, but the cable comes in one end of the house through the basement, and the stereo is at the other end of the house upstairs, and it worked fine until last week. We've lost contact with the stereo AX, and even plugged in with an ethernet cable I can't set it up - I can go through the menus, and when I try to finalize everything it just sits there blinking amber and eventually I lose the connection with the AX in the basement too - but I get it back upon restarting the computer.
My wife is having problems with copying and pasting in Firefox/Yahoo mail using her login, but I can't duplicate them in mine.
Firefox forgets things in my login that it remembers in hers - like it won't ever open to my homepage, always the "thanks for updating" page. I've googled that and found a few references to the problem, and tips for fixing it (deleting a few files), but they haven't worked for me.
We have intermittent problems with permissions - occasionally I can't write to a folder I created.
In the past I've been able to download HD video direct (without converting) from my Panasonic Lumix LX-5 camera through iMovie, but last time I tried the files were greyed out and unavailable.
A few months back everything froze and it wouldn't start up. A friend, who is a Mac IT guy, had a look at it and reinstalled the system, and it's worked ok since, with the exceptions noted above. We do back up regularly with Time Machine, and for most of the time I've had the macbook I used Saphos antivirus, until I read it could cause problems with Time Machine, at which point I uninstalled it.
I'm not a computer guy, I just want to have a reliable machine I can use every day without having to sit down and reconfigure some settings to get it to work. I have no idea whether these problems are related, or totally random, or a result of something I did. I half want to just forget it and replace the laptop and the one AX I can't get to work, but if it's a relatively simple fix, I'd realy prefer not to spend the money right now.
Any recomendations would be appreciated, and feel free to ask for further information - hopefully I'll be able to provide it!
AndrewJust curious. Have you opened disk utilities application in the utility folder and select your drive, and run repair permissions. This may or may not help. It also may take awhile if it has never been done. Good luck!

Desktop and Start menu
When you start your Windows 10 computer, you'll see the desktop. Like in Windows 7 and earlier versions of Windows, you'll see the Start button in the lower-left, which opens the Start menu.

Action Center
The Action Center can be used to view notifications and access settings quickly. Hold the Windows key and press the 'A' key to open the Action Center.
Notifications are shown at the top, and toggles for various settings are located at the bottom.
On touchscreen devices, you can swipe in from the right to open the Action Center. The toggles on the bottom are sized so that you can press them with your thumb easily.Install 7. Don't bother with applying drivers and such, just reboot again from DVD and install again, it will see the existing system and this time activation will be possible.
Vista is mess, takes longer etc. Hope you have SP1 version of 7. And for Vista, only SP2+ are even supported now, by MS.
