HELP!  I have lost my entire itunes library.

Compaq   Windows XP
I know there is a way to upload all the songs on my ipod back onto my itunes but I have no idea how. Can anyone help PLEASE????!!!!

There is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the files from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward.

  • I am FREAKING OUT! Somehow I have lost my entire Itunes library! Help!

I have a dell dimension 2400 desktop pc. I have the 30 gb ipod photo, older model. I don't know what the **** I did, but tonight when attempting to clean up some empty folders on my computer, my entire Itunes Library was deleted. I can't find it anywhere! I wasn't prompted or anything to confirm what was about to happen, but when I opened Itunes back up, it was completely empty. Now when I try and put back on the "Itunes" songs it can find on my computer, it is only a fraction of them. Somehow, if possible, I just want to restore my Itunes as if I hadn't touched it, back to 2 hours ago! I am lost over 4000 songs! Some of the songs were downloaded, some ripped off cd's, some off Itunes. Someone please tell me it can be fixed! My ipod still has everything on it except for abunch of unchecked songs that were still on the computer.

if you have all the songs still on your ipod you can put them back on your computer from the ipod... just DONT LET ITUNES SYNC WITH YOU IPOD when you plug it back in. change the settings to manual control for syncing ipods or your itunes will delete all of them. i dont know what to do for the unchecked songs... i had a similar situation and i used a mac program to take the songs off of my ipod. hope this helps.. just google for an application that will let ya take songs off the ipod.

  • Need help have lost my entire itunes library

Hi, i put my ipod on charge through my usb, my music is on my ipod, but my computer is telling me that the ipod is synced with another itunes library. do you want to erase this ipod and sync with this itunes library, i have only synced with this one computer please help!!!

    Hello ashme1985,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
I don't know why your iPod is doing exactly, but I do know that if the music on your iPod is no longer in your iTunes library, you'll need to copy it back over to it. I say this because your only solution now is to *Erase and Sync* as it says.
See this article for instructions on how to copy the music back over to your Windows machine.

    Hello bigali,
Your options are kinda limited. I would use this first:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and ...
Then check here for the non-purchased items:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2452022
You want to rebuild the library first, then sync the ipod.

  • I have lost my entire IPhoto Library and albums

    IMac OS X  V 10.6.8
I have lost my entire IPhoto Library and albums.
    How do I restore?

Your only other option is to stop using your Mac as soon as possible to minimize precious data being overwritten to, purchase a high quality, fast external hard drive, preferably a FIreWire external hard drive such as these
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firewire/1394/USB/EliteAL/eSATA_FW800_FW400_USB
using an OS X Snow Leopard install disc, format this external drive as a Mac OS extended (journaled) formatted hard drive with a GUID partition scheme and then, using a install disc of OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, install a fresh copy of OS X Snow Leopard and boot your Mac to that external hard drive by using the Startup Disc icon in the OS X System Preferences Panel to boot your Mac to the external hard drive. Once your Mac is booted and running from this hard drive,  then use the OS X Software Update feature to update that version of OS X Snow Leopard to OS X 10.6.8.
Then, you need to do a web search for a Data recovery software such as Prosoft Engineering's Data Rescue and purchase, download, install and use this software to perform data recovery of your iMac's internal hard drive following the proper instructions on how to use the software. to recover the data.
Be advised that any images you recover will no longer be in a format that IPhoto will read and most like will just be a folder with just the images alone without any more linkage to the IPhoto library, but I am not completely sure about this as I always have redundant backups of my entire system.
If this seems all too complicated and complex to you, you need to stop using your Mac ASAP and either contact an Apple Store or Apple Authorised reseller/service/repair center to find out how much it will cost for them to recover your data and bring your Mac in for a more professional data recovery.
I still strongly advise you purchase a high quality, large storage, fast, external hard drive to use for future data backups to prevent such a catastrophic data loss from happening, again.
Every  computer user SHOULD have, at least, one external backup drive and having redundant backup drives is even better.

  • ABSOLUTELY PANICKING - PLEASE HELP - I lost my entire iTunes library

I opened my iTunes today and it was entirely blank. As of last night, I had 1400+ songs, several movies, and several t.v. shows.
I found the iTunes library folder which contained 1000 of my songs, the movies, and the t.v. shows and I transferred the folder back into iTunes.
    Here's my question/fear:
I share my iTunes with my daughter so we have two Playlists set up and have our iPods set to sync from our playlists only. When I plug my iPod into iTunes, is it going to delete all the songs on my iPod because I don't have my playlist anymore? I don't want to lose the other 400 songs which I had imported and I don't necessarily want to have to recreate my original playlist.
After I get this fixed, my panic is going to be replaced with anger as to why my iTunes program failed. That's a costly malfunction.

"When I plug my iPod into iTunes, is it going to delete all the songs on my iPod because I don't have my playlist anymore?"
You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7.3 installed hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer: iTunes 7.3 Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows
Once you are safely connected change your update setting to manual. That way you can connect and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing your songs. Keep it in manual until you can sort out the problems with your library: Managing content manually on iPod

  • My laptop recently crashed and had to be restored back to it's original factory settings. I lost my entire iTunes library and have had to start from scratch again. Is it possible to load everything i currently have on my iphone4 into my new iTunes library

When i connect my iphone to the new iTunes library it tells me that it's going to erase everything on my iphone and upload everything from the new iTunes library onto it. Is there a way to save everything on my phone into the new iTunes library?

Thanks for all of your advice.
I just downloaded a copy of TuneJack for the small price of $9.95.
It retrieved all my music from my iphone and loaded it all straight into my iTunes library for me all at a click of a button and only took a few minutes.
Problem solved I can stop stressing now!

  • I have lost half my itunes library whilst changing computers

Being completely unsavvy I lost half of my songs whilst transferring to a new laptop. The "missing" songs still appear to be on the old laptop. Should I just reconnect my iPhone 5 iOS7 to the old laptop and download again or will I just be making matters worse......?
The old laptop is an ASUS running on Vista and the new laptop an Acer Aspire with Windows 8.

    pjdfrom wrote:
(Edit) PS. When you say "You simply copy that onto the new computer and then use File/Add Folder to Library to add them in as well." Would I do that by re-syncing my iPhone on the old laptop and then again on the new one?
No. You cannot use the iPhone to transfer music from one computer to another. How did you transfer the music in you previous attempt? Use that same method (such as copy onto an external drive and then paste into new computer). Once you have done that, in iTunes, use the menu at the top (which you can turn on using CTRL B), and then use File/Add Folder to Library...
Once the music is in your Library, Sync the iPhone to the new Library to add the songs to your phone.

  • I've lost my entire iTunes library! Do i have to pay for every song again?

I decided to do a fresh install of 10.5 instead of a upgrade from 10.4.10 for various reasons, and i backed everything up onto a external hard drive. Everything went great but when i went to get everything back, half way through copying my files from my backup, the external harddrive failed! It caused os x to hang and there is no possible way to get anything off the hard drive. I even tried the program Data Rescue II but that wont work because the hard drive just wont work. I tried everything i knew to make the drive work but i cant get around the fact the drive has sh**ed itself. So obviously i lost everything, photos, music, uni work (thank god its holidays) everything So now i wonder if i can download some of my songs from iTunes without having to pay for it again? That **** hard drive might cost me a lot of money more than the replacement cost.
If anyone else has experienced something similar to me, were you able to get your music library back? I used a program to copy music back off my ipod but my ipod didnt have everything on it.

The policy on lost purchases is that you have to pay to download them again:
"Once a Product is purchased and you receive the Product, it is your responsibility not to lose, destroy, or damage the Product, and Apple shall be without liability to you in the event of any loss, destruction, or damage." iTunes Store: Purchased content can be downloaded only once
You could try contacting the iTunes Music Store Customer Service and you might be able to persuade them to sanction a second free download. There have been occasional reports in the iTunes forum of this happening, however just be aware that they are not under any obligation to do so. If you click on any of the links on this page you'll find a space at the bottom to email your query: iTMS Customer Service
The transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7 but if all your purchases weren't on it I'm afraid they fall into the category above: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod to a computer

  • I have duplicated my entire itunes Library!! help!

    Problem:
I recently transfered my library to an external hard-drive, however, in the process I screwed up and duplicated each song.
    My library doubled in size.
    Question:
Is there a command in itunes that deletes duplicate songs?
I know that itunes can single out you duplicate songs,
but manually deleting 4000 songs is going to take forever!

Do a search for "dupes" on http://www.dougscripts.com/itunes/
There are some powerfull scripts available, that will exactly fit your needs.

  • Somehow my entire itunes library got deleted ... I have the old ipod nano, which does not connect with iCloud so it has all been saved there, BUT .. I cannot load all my music that I put on and I no longer have the cd's PLEASE HELP!!!!

PLEASE HELP!!!  Somehow my entire iTunes library got deleted, and I cannot sync all my music that I put on from cd's (which I no longer have). All the purchased music has been synced, but nothing else! All my other devices are synced with iCloud and lost the material as well ... I am so frustrated, because the nano has not been working properly, and I am afraid of losing it forever, and of course the cd's I backed everything with are MIA!!!! GRRR! Please HELP!!!
    Thank you so much!

I can't tell from your post what you have and what you don't have. Are you saying the files are no longer on your computer, no longer on your iPod, or both?
