Help !! I lost my only admin account and I don't have the root

Hello evrybody
I bought a MacBook and I was very happy with it. But I played whith the netinfo and I changed my only admin account's short name then it turned into a standard account.
I did not active the root account and I have the two CDs , but when i boot frome the CD I only have one option which is updating the system.
Anybody can help me ??

Hi Saudi.
OOOPS!
If your daily cron job hasn't run since you modified the netinfo DB, you can reload from the "dump" of it taken each day.
Boot your system single-user (Apple-S) at startup. Type mount -uw / and then ls -l /var/backups/local.nidump. Check the date. Is it a copy of the unmodified DB?
If so, Follow the instructions here to reload the DB from the dump.
Good luck,
John

  • How can I get the serial number for CS6 - I did not register it on my adobe account and I don't have the invoice/email from Aug 2012 nor the box anymore. I need the number to move software to a new computer.

I am trying to move Indesign CS6 to a new computer.
To do this I need the serial number of the license.
It seems I did not register the number on my Adobe account as nothing is there.
I bought the software in August 2012 - and no longer have the invoice.
i think we got the software by box but am not sure.
    Please help!

    Hello Karen,
in this case you should search for Adobe's staff members by writing a personal message. They can often help better than we, we the users like you. Please have a look in the forum to persons with this icon under their avatar:

  • Trying to do step 2 - i.e creating an account and I don't have the option on the menu to do so. What do I do at this point?

I installed Firefox 5.0. I went to create a user name and password and in following the video tutorial, I do not have the option. The only thing I get is "restore, move, size, minimize, maximize and close". I downloaded the program 2x.

Go to the Tools menu > Options. Select the Sync tab in the options. Then use the setup Firefox sync button to create the account. From that point forward it should be the same steps as the video.

  • I forgot my admin password and i don't have the cd any more what should i do?

like i already said in the question!

What 'softwater' said implies if you have Mountain Lion or Lion (10.8 or 10.7)
'softwater' is absolutely correct but if you have Snow Leopard (10.6), you can follow these steps to reset the password :
If you have lost a password to an OS X user account on your Apple Macintosh, this will help you reset it. This guide works for all apple computers including but not limited to MacBook, MacBook Pro, iMac, Mac Mini, Mac Pro, and MacBook Air.
Start by having your computer shut off.Power it on, and hold Command (Apple Button) + S at the same time.
Soon you’ll see the computer booting up with lots of lines of code scrolling by. When it comes to a rest, type the following./sbin/fsck -y/sbin/mount -uaw
Now we’ll get a list of the users on the computer based on their home directory. Type:
    cd /Users/
    ls
When you see the folder name (99% of the time this will usually match the user on the system, unless you’ve renamed the account afterwords) of the user you want to reset, type the passwd command. Assuming that my account name was john, I’d type the following:
    passwd john
Substitute john for the username you wish to reset. You’ll now be prompted to enter a new password for john twice. Once to enter it, the second time to confirm.
    After this is done, type:
    reboot
You can now login to that user account with the new password.

  • Please help! We got a used Mac Mini and we don't have the former owner's password, so we can't install anything like flash player.  Does anyone know how to get around this?

Please help! We got a used Mac Mini and we don't have the former owner's password, so we can't install anything like flash player.  Does anyone know how to get around this? I don't know how to wipe the hard drive, and the support online doesn't seem to work.

    As posted previously:
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    Do the following:
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
If installing Leopard the process is similar in some respects.  If you wish to begin anew then after selecting the target disk click on the Options button and select the Erase and Install option then click on the OK button.  To install over an existing system do the following:
How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger, Leopard or Snow Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.

The reset link will only show if you have a rescue email address (which is not the same thing as an alternate email address) set up on your account. If you aren't getting the link then that implies that you don't have one and you won't be able to add one until you can answer 2 of your questions - you will need to contact iTunes Support or Apple to get them reset.
e.g. you can try contacting iTunes Support : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Account Management , and then 'Forgotten Apple ID security questions'
or try ringing Apple in your country and ask to talk to the Accounts Security Team : http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
When they've been resetyou can then use the steps half-way down this page to add a rescue email address for potential future use : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5312 . Or, if it's available in your country, you could change to 2-step verification : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5570

  • I lost my phone and I don´t have the app find my iphone

I lost my phone and I don´t have the app find my iphone

You don't need the App but you must have turned on "Find My iPhone" in Settings > iCloud.
If you have "Find My iPhone" enabled then you may be able to locate it. If not, you cannot locate it. If it was enabled then you can try locating it via http://icloud.com on a computer or the App "Find My iPhone" on another iDevice. Note: this will only work if your device is connected to a network and the device hasn't already been restored as new and/or "Find My iPhone" has not been disabled on it. Note: Disabling "Find My iPhone" is much more difficult in iOS 7.
If you think that your device was stolen rather than lost then you should report it to the police. In either case you should contact your carrier, change your iTunes account password, your email account passwords, and any passwords that you'd stored on websites/emails/notes etc.

The AirPlay feature is only available whe you have an Apple Tv. You can mirror the display form your iPad if the iPad and Apple Tv are both connected to the same WPA (or the same Wi-Fi). Air Drop is a way of sharing files, such as pictures, PDFs, and text documents. Hope this helps.

  • How do I get rid of an old icloud account that was hacked and i don't have the password for?

I was hacked awhile back and had to change to a new email. i was able to change my itunes account over but my icloud did not come over to the new account.
I can not delete or change the old icloud account because I don't have the password for it.  what can i do to fix this?

Use the Settings app to sign out of the old ID and sign in with the new one.
Settings > iTunes and App Store > tap on the Apple ID > Sign Out > then sign in with the correct Apple ID.
Not that all apps purchased or downloaded with the old Apple ID will require the old ID and password in order to be updated. To avoid this delete all apps associated with the old ID and download them again with the new ID. Be aware that you will most likely lose data associated with deleted apps and you will have to pay again for any apps that have a fee.

Call Apple with the Serial and they will send you the ones that came with the Mac. Or search the Net.

  • Emails are "stuck" in my Apple Mail Outbox. I have deleted the account and reinstalled but still have the problem. Apple's "Network Diagnostics" report that it cannot connect to the SMPT server.

Emails are l "stuck" in my Apple Mail Outbox. I have deleted the account and reinstalled but still have the problem. Apple's "Network Diagnostics" report that it cannot connect to the SMPT server. TalkTalk (Tiscali) say there is no problem with their server because I have checked and can send emails with their webmail.

    No that is not it:
Open Mail>Preferences>Accounts, the first page has this on it
If you click on the server name in the box (gmail in your case I assume) it opens and reveals this:
If you select Edit SMTP Server list you get this:
Post it here and, select the Advanced Tab (which looks like this)
    Post this page as well.

    Hello tom,
I understand you are having issues activating an iPhone 3G. The following article addresses the exact error message you included:
    iPhone: Troubleshooting activation issues
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3424
    Resolution
    - Restart the iPhone.
    - Try another means of reaching the activation server and attempt to activate.
              - Try connecting to Wi-Fi if you're unable to activate using a cellular data connection.
              - Try connecting to iTunes if you're unable to activate using Wi-Fi.
    - Restore the iPhone.
If you receive an alert message when you attempt to activate your iPhone, try to place the iPhone in recovery mode and perform a restore.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • I need to change my iCloud email address.  I changed it for my Apple id but I can't log out of iCloud to change it there.  Find my iPad is activated so I can't delete my iCloud account.  I don't have the email address the iCloud login has anymore.

I need to change my iCloud email address.  I changed it for my Apple id but I can't log out of iCloud to change it there.  Find my iPad is activated so I can't delete my iCloud account.  I don't have the email address the iCloud login has anymore so I can't have the password sent there.  To sum it up, iCloud has an old email for the account log-in.  I don't remember the password for the old email.  I have Find My iPad activated so the iCloud account cannot be deleted.  And I am already logged out of iTunes & App Store.

If you mean that Find My Phone is asking for a password to a different Apple ID to your current Apple IDand that ID is a previous version of your current ID, not an entirely different one.
This feature has been introduced to make stolen phones useless to those that have stolen them.
However it can also arise when the user has changed their Apple ID details with Apple and not made the same changes to their iCloud account/Find My Phone on their device before upgrading to iOS 7, or if you restore from a previous back up made before you changed your details and some other circumstances.
The only solution is to change your Apple ID back to its previous state with Apple at My Apple ID using your current password, you don’t need access to this address if it’s previously been used with your Apple ID, once you have saved these details enter the password as requested on your device and then turn off "find my phone" and delete the account from your device. It may take a short while to remove the account.
You should then change your Apple ID back to its current state, save it once again and then log back in using your current Apple ID. Finally, turn "find my phone" back on once again.
This article provides more information about Activation Lock.
