Help! I'm pulling my hair out....

I'm trying to copy everything from my old ibook to my new one. The old OS is 10.2.8 and the new one has tiger on it. How can I move ALL the information from my old one to my new machine. I've tryed firewire and airport however I can't get them to mount. I've tryed every kind of network config I can think of. What am I doing wrong. My old ibook is the older blue one and the new one is well the new model. Any help would be greatly apperciated.

Hi, Jeremy. Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Does your old blue iBook have a FireWire connection? Some of the Indigo ones did. If so, follow the step-by-step instructions for using FireWire Target Disk Mode. If the blue iBook doesn't have FireWire, you can't use FireWire Target Disk Mode. Both computers have to have it.
You should be able to connect the two using an ethernet cable and transfer everything that way if you can't use FireWire Target Disk Mode.
AirPort will work if both are connected to an AirPort Base Station or a wireless router or wireless access point with AirPort cards. I know your new G4 will have an AirPort Extreme card that came in it, but does your old iBook have an AirPort card? Are both connected to a wireless base station of some sort?
You will have to turn on file sharing on the iBooks in order to enable that to happen.

Can't get battery to charge - please help before I pull my hair out

My daughter and I both have the Curve 8530, first, her battery didn't seem to hold a charge very long, then her charging port stopped working. So we started swapping the batteries. When hers was low, I would give her mine with more charge and charge up the other one, using it until the first one needed a charge. That started getting more and more frequent, now, all of the sudden I can't get either one to charge in my phone. Figured out that hers doesn't charge because it is broken. We can see a piece of metal that should be on the little tab in the port, laying at the bottom of the port. Mine is a little loose after 2 years, so I sometimes have to wiggle the connection or make sure I set it down and don't move it when it is charging. However, this is making me crazy. It was plugged into my computer usb to charge all night and was completely dead this morning. Which, is not a big suprise as the usb port on my computer doesn't always like to charge the BB. Gives me an error saying not enough power. So I plugged in the wall charger and let it sit. It gets far enough that it will start the OS, but then sat there for hours and never changed from red and didn't get even 1 bar of charge. Usually it only take a short time. I read another post about an internal circular battery under the sticker with all the identification numbers on it, but I don't see any battery resembling that and am not comfortable taking my BB apart like that. So any suggestions as to what the problem might be? Or how to fix it? My daughter's, though she doesn't think so, is not near as important as having at least one battery for mine due to work, etc. Thanks for reading and any help.

I would suggest trashing the .itl and .xml files to make sure you start clean (quit iTunes before you trash the files, of course). Then use the Add Folder To Library command and select your iTunes Music folder. That should get everything back into iTunes, though you won't get any playlists back unless you made a backup of them.

Is it not possible to create a text box, fill it with dynamic (data driven) text, but make the font size either scale up or down automatically, so that the entire text box is filled? This is a feature in PrintShop Mail Pro called COPY FIT. but no such feature in Indesign??

lol... it seems to work, but I have another huge problem!
Apparently .CSV files cannot contain page breaks in the data! The data I am trying to merge is a 'letter', with paragraphs, line breaks, etc.,
But, after data merging, it ignores page breaks and only merges the first paragraph of each letter. (sigh)
Solution? Hopefully, an EASY solution. lol as we have thousands of records.
Is there a third party indesign plugin that will allow .xml, or .xls data merge import??

I've managed to play music wirelessly from my macbook to the express/stereo, however i cant surf the web because i can only presume i haven't set up the express to join my sky network. So therefore the only way to surf the web at the moment is swap wireless devices from express back to my current sky network, then the airplay stops obviously.
I've tried to join the express to my sky network/netgear router, at face value it looks simple. The sky network name automatically comes up and then all i have to do is select the correct wireless security which i haven't got a clue which one my sky/netgear router is using, then type in the password which i presume is the network key number on the back of the netgear router? However its not connecting?? I am doing something wrong?
Can someone please give me some guidence on how to connect express to my current network?

Suggest that you ask Sky what type of wireless security that is used on the devices that they provide.
Once you have that information, you can choose the correct matching setting when you configure the AirPort Express to "join" the Sky wireless network.
The "password" would be the normal phrase that you use to connect to your wireless network at the present time.

My question is: How do I figure out what release I was on, get rid of this one and got back to a functional firefox that moves in realtime. I already did all the reset and etc.... and now, when i tried to check again my network preference below the airport tab is showing a message that
"my airport does not have an IP address and cannot connect to the internet!"

Help, I am about to pull my hair out, can't get into a locked drive and Time Machine problem

I've screwed everything up, I think. I had Time Machine doing backups to an external 500Gig drive and somehow it got locked. I went into Get Info to try and change the access but it won't allow me. On top of this problem, my original drive died and I can't get into Time Machine to restore. When I click "Enter Time Machine", nothing happens. I created an eDisk and a startup disk to another external drive that I'm using now, but since everything that's been backed up is on the other drive that I can't access. When I try accessing the drive it gives: "The folder “G-DRIVE ” can’t be opened because you don’t have permission to see its contents." I'm not knowledgeable enough to work from the command line, so if I need to do that to access the drive, please walk me though it. As for the Time Machine problem, I have no idea how to recover anything since it won't even come up, it just sits there. Outside of blowing my brains out, I don't know what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I can't afford to take it to Apple to let them try and fix it.

Here is what i needed to do for my drive "320GB HD", the last command is just for clean up
Open Terminal and type these commands carefully with the spaces & change 320GB HD to the name of your drive.
sudo chflags 0 "/volumes/320GB HD"
sudo chown root "/volumes/320GB HD"
sudo chmod 1775 "/volumes/320GB HD"
sudo -k
That said, these should be sufficient to do the job:
sudo chflags 0 "/Volumes/320GB HD"
sudo chmod a+rx "/Volumes/320GB HD"

here is my problem:
my loop browser likes to delete my loops. they just disappear for no reason....user loops as well as the apple ones. i have my loop folders where i believe is the correct location. but they aren't in the browser. i take that back....every time i open logic, some folders appear, some disappear...i open it again, different ones are there....the ones there the last time are now gone. basically they keep appearing and disappearing....most of them...some have never shown up in the browser. the last time i checked...all i had in there were the ones for the symphony jam pack. i'm afraid next time i open logic none will be there. i keep moving them in and out of the user and apple loop folders thinking that might do something. gah! i just don't know what to do. and god only knows if all the samples and loops i created are anywhere on my computer anymore. oh...and if i try taking the individual folders or files and drag them into the browser, logic freezes. and it doesn't matter anyway because those that i succesfully loaded into the browser that way have also disappeared.
can someone please please please help me. i am desperate. i have had the most obnoxious day already. i am having all these problems with the computer, my car was towed (not my fault either), i woke up at 3am because i couldn't sleep....i'm just stressed and all i want to do is work on music.

maybe it does have to do with other apps. i wish i would have paid attention to when this started occuring so i could narrow down which application might be the culprit.
the only thing that seems to be working right now is if i take my loop folders out of library/audio. i dragged some to my desktop (don't ask me why i did this) and imported them from there. for some reason they are staying in my loop browser. also when asked where i wanted to put the files, i selected them to go where the rest of the loops are at....in the proper directory. i'm thinking of trying this with all the loops and see what happens. something is corrupted and i'd like to know what and why. i admit, which i am embarrassed about, my computer is a mess. i really need to organise it and all that. actually, i am hoping hoping hoping to get a macbook just for my music. it would make life easier for me seeing i am quickly running out of room on all my hard drives.
the only loops i am having trouble locating are all the ones i made recently. which i am upset about. but i am sure they are here somewhere. i just need ot wade through the mess to find them.

Flash - Pulling My Hair Out - Please Help!

Hi everyone. I support multiple users with flash. Recently,
some of my users are having an issue with some websites that
display flash content. Specifically, they will appear to load the
content, but only have a blank space (no X's or error messages).
What's stranger is that other flash sites (Adobe's tester.. the
M&Ms site.. many others) work perfectly fine.
Here's an example:

On this site for some of my clients, the map simply won't
load. You'll notice the transition effect (which is visible), but
no map. Just white. I've tried this on IE 7, Firefox 3, Latest
Opera.. all the same result.
Here's what I've tried so far:
- Put afflicted sites in the trusted security zones
- Uninstalling/Reinstalling v9
- Installing v10
- Cleared registry keys of all flash content.. install v9.
- Cleared registry keys of all flash content .. install v10.
- Update Java (just in case) to latest build
- Ran flash uninstaller with /clean switch.
- Cleared browser cache
- Deleted browser objects
- Tried a flash9f build someone suggested
All no dice. I don't understand why flash seemingly works on
many web sites but not all of them. I'd chalk it up to poor
programming, but it works fine on my machine, which has an
identical image to one of the machines not working properly.
Can someone look at that site.. what it's trying to load..
and maybe guesstimate a course of action? It's not a mission
critical problem..but it's driving me nuts! I'm almost ready to
format these puppies!

Lines being printed that don't appear on PDF document created in Illustrator.. Pulling my hair out!

So here's the story:
I own a company that designs and sells sewing patterns for men's clothing to be made by home sewers. I have my patterns professionally drafted and sent to me as a poster-sized PDF. I then open it in Illustrator, move things around, change some fonts, etc... and make a 34" wide copy to be printed at a copy shop. That's all fine and dandy, and it prints out perfectly.
I then use Acrobat XI Pro to open the 34" version and print to Adobe PDF with the poster setting of 7.5" x 10" for people to print at home. Then I open each page of the multi-page PDF in Illustrator to add a border, alignment marks, page numbers, etc... and save as the same PDF.
Now here is where the weirdness begins. For some reason, there are random chunks of lines (identical to the pattern lines throughout the rest of the document) that aren't supposed to be there. They don't show up on my screen when I open the file in Illustrator or Adobe, but they get printed every time. I've even started the whole process from scratch, tested the 34" wide version at the print shop (prints perfectly), and split it into pages again, and the phantom lines are still there!
I've attached a photo I took of one of the pages in question. The file on my screen is the exact one I printed, and as you can see, they are definitely not the same
Can anyone help me? I can send the PDF files in question if need be!
Oh and if it helps, I have been saving the PDF files as Press Quality from Illustrator. Any other settings/info you need? Thanks very much in advance!

Yep, it definitely is a complicated workflow... But I'm not really sure of any other way to get from the 34" wide pattern to the home-sewing version which is split into pages and has alignment marks and whatnot. I'm very much an amateur that has figured it out as I went
I went through the page in the photo pretty thoroughly with the layer panel and I couldn't find any mystery lines... But I did find something interesting; when I click on any of the pattern lines, it shows the whole line of the pattern piece, which extends well past the edge of the artboard. So when I'm printing the poster-sized PDF to 7.5x10 pages, it's keeping all the anchor points of a line even if only a small piece of that is on the actual page.

Also, should I be keeping all the files I'm editing as .ai files and then only exporting to PDF for the very final product? I was doing that at first, but then using .pdf for the whole process didn't seem to make any difference.

New burning problem....pulling my hair out

i have burned movies successfully many times. i make them in imovie and then burn via idvd. i just finished one that is 1 hour and 8 minutes long. i chose share -- then idvd to burn. however, when i attempt to burn, and am prompted for a disc, i put it into the drive and it spins for a while, then spits out the disc and i get a message that says "no recordable disc in the drive. insert recordable disc." i have a box of new recordable discs that i have never had a problem with. they are verbatim dvd-r 16x 4.7 gb/120 minutes of video. i keep unwrapping one and trying it -- but i get the same error message and now i have tried unsuccessfully with six new discs. i don't know what to do. the drive seems to be functioning correctly. it reads other dvd's and cd's. anyone have any help, thoughts, suggestions? thanks in advance!

You may also wish to make sure your Mac is fully ready -- I use MacJanitor (get from VersionTracker) to trigger all the maintenance scripts and then Repair Permissions with Apple's Disk Utility.
Check to see how much hard disk space you have available; 10-20 gigs is desireable. Also try breaking the burning into two parts as often recommended in these forums -- Save as Disc Image, then use Apple's Disk Utility (or Roxio Toast) to slowly burn the DVD.

I am going crazy for last 15 days , but not found a solution . I called godaddy people , but no perfect answer . After looking at this thread I got my hopes back . Hopefully you read this message and will reply back.
I am using godaddy Linux hosting shared environment unlimited with java support .
I am able to connect to database directly through my JSP or servlet and able to get the result . I mean if I hard code the database connection string,userid and password . But if I use context.xml I am getting null pointer exception on the screen . As per the tomcat configuration install doc if you copy context.xml under META-INF/context.xml It will be picked by tomcat and writes it under conf\Catalina\localhost directory with your jar file name . In shared environment I am not getting a away to check this ..
Is there any way to check the file copied properly or not to conf\Catalina\localhost directory?
Or if it doesn't there any other way to implement connection pooling in Godaddy environment?
and surprisingly the logs what they are asking me to check are under stats directory with error_logs directory . But that doesn't contain much information.Are there any other error logs I can check?
You mentioned in the above message you were able to check the shared libraries they are hosting. How do I check it?

Want to pull your hair out? Try moving the HD/SD combo shows.

Seems simple enough, right? You download an HD show on your desktop, which also comes with an SD version for your iPhone/iPod, and you want to put it on your laptop. Ah, things are never as simple as they seem. Try it yourself, or, simply back up your show (both versions), delete it from iTunes, and then try to put it back in your library.
When you attempt to copy the shows back, only the HD version will copy over. The SD version will not be copied. If you try to manually copy the SD show, it won't. If you try simply moving it to the library on your own, next to the HD version, iTunes won't recognize it.
There is no obvious or simple way to move or restore a combo HD/SD show. It's easy to move the HD or SD show into your library, but not both so they function as they did when first downloaded from iTunes.
Has anyone else seen this issue? I was finally able to figure out a method to get it to work, but it's very convoluted and involves multiple steps that aren't intuitive.

Doesn't wake up from sleep without restarting and losing anything open
Connects to a BT Wi-Fi despite deleting all BT networks from my list of preferred networks on a daily occurrence
Internet sometimes just doesn't work, despite being connected to the Sky Hub and all connection lights working, Safari just freezes and I can see Dropbox has disconnected - although other devices in the house are working fine
Kicks other devices connected to the Bluetooth speakers off, then cannot play anything to it without constant interruptions
Continuously told there is a problem with iCloud and have to re-enter my password almost everyday to see there is nothing wrong (as far as I can see)
Emails are no longer pushed to my Mac, I have to hear the notification on my iPhone then click Get Mail (or wait a few minutes)
Photoshop CS6 crashes, which I really didn't expect to be a feature on a machine with such high specification
I cannot connect to shares on my Western Digital NAS
Calendar refuses to open in full-screen mode despite me always using in full-screen mode and other apps (Mail, Safari) opening in full-screen mode when they have been closed in said mode
Safari is SOOOO SLOW; difficult to scroll down a page, always restarts and crashes
Finder opens folders however it see fits, despite having gone through and set the default view for my main folders
Calls from my iPhone ring on the Macbook for quite a while after I have picked it up on my iPhone (and this is a super pain when the laptop has connected to the speaker and its ringing full blast whilst I am trying to speak to someone)
2-month old iPhone 6 - 64GB
Cannot select which folder sent items should be saved to for one of my mail accounts (well I can, but as soon as I navigate away from the screen it goes back to the wrong one)
Phone crashes for a few seconds when opening any app
Constantly told there is an iCloud verification issue
Constantly informed that iCloud Photo Library has not updated for 7 days
Also that I need to connect to Wi-Fi for iCloud Photo Library to update - whilst actively using Wi-Fi
Also that iCloud is not signed in and iCloud Photo Library cannot update, then when I go to the settings there is a verification issue
Takes about 10 seconds for a call to connect (before ringing)
(Granted, a few years old) Airport Express in the room next to the router
Cannot play music to it without intermittent interruptions
Cannot play music if the device being played from is anywhere near the Airport Express or anywhere along the direct line between the Airport Express and the router
Sometimes can't even connect to it
...These are just a few things of the top of my head.
It's these small things that make it infuriating for me to complete simple tasks and sometimes just make the laptop/phone completely unusable. I would have expected better from something that isn't cheap at all. Maybe I am expecting too much?
Tempted to bin it all and go back to paper, pen, and landline as it seems nothing with regards to technology goes without mind-numbing interruptions.
I am sure there is no patch to install that will fix everything, but if you are an Apple expert and know how I might go about fixing just one of the above, I would really appreciate your response.

I have just been on the phone to Apple who instructed me to reset my SMC and PRAM which seems to have fixed the issue of waking after sleep, but see below for the results of the process...

3 attempts to export a movie from iMovie - pulling my hair out

I have a large project in Imovie 11, mixture of video clips and photographs. I have tried 3 times to export to HD. This takes 11 hours to run each time so you can imagine how frustrated I am!!!! I am using the menu option SHARE, EXPORT MOVIE, and choosing HD. Like I said it takes 11 hours then I get error -49 cannot prepare movie, I have had this 3 times now so frustrated, please can anyone help me, what am I doing wrong?
I read somewhere on this forum about running analyze video, but when I choose this the options are greyed out so I cannot choose any. Help before I jump out the window, thank you.

Hi Geoffrey,
Right-click (or Control-click) on one of the video clips in the project timeline. From the pop-up menu select Reveal in Finder. Now open the clip with QuickTime and select from the menu "Window > Show Movie Inspector". In the Inspector, tell us what is shown for Format and FPS (frames per second).
It's possible that you are using an unusual video format (codec) that iMovie is having trouble with. Another possibility is that one or more of your photos is corrupted.
One thing to try is to select from iMovie's menu "File > Optimize Video" (you mentioned Analyze Video, but that is quite different to Optimizing).
Another suggestion is to turn off Time Machine when exporting, if you have that running.
I may be back with other suggestions (but dish washing and wife's cuppa tea is beckoning)!
