Help!!!! I'm trying to restore my ipad from scratch. activation server unavailable or device is not eligible

1. (over wifi) Your ipad could not be activated because the activation server is temporarily unavailable. Try connecting your ipad to itunes to activate it, or try again in a couple of minutes.  (did this 12 times over several days.)
2. (through itunes) This device isn't eligible for the requested build.
I've tried builds for both 6.1.2 and 6.1.3 even tried the 7 beta 4
here is one attempt
here is an event log from the 6.1.2 attempt. Had the same result with the 6.1.3 attempt. Please help

Because it says it's incompatible when it can't be, I got hope. I get error messages all the time with my iPod and iPhone that it cannot sync and that 'this device is not capapble of connecting to iTunes' stuff. I literally forget that happened, plug it in again and it works, I later realize that iTunes made a mistake, they do that.

Updated iPad 1 to IOS 5. When trying to restore my iPad from my backup it gets half way through and the iPad reboots and iTunes says "An error occurred while restoring this iPad (-1)"
I have tried to restore my contacts and company data at least 20 times and every time half way through THE iPAD REBOOTS! When it boots back up it is at the brand new iPad screen.
This makes me angry as I do not use the iPad for fun and games. I use it for business. My company data and records for the last year are gone. ALL of my out standing customer invoices are gone. ALL payments received are gone! ALL Business contacts and emails ARE GONE! All my company, personal email accounts and settings ARE GONE!
What am I supposed to do now? In 6 hours I have to get on the road and conduct business with a empty blank factory out of the box iPad. How am I supposed to know who owes me money or who has paid their bills Apple? All of my meetings and calendar dates are GONE!
Everything was supposed to be backed up and restored after the update!
Question???WHY DID YOU MAKE THIS UPDATE WIPE OUT ALL SETTINGS AND APPS ON THE iPAD??? All the other updates left everything on the iPad intact and ONLY upgraded the IOS,and when it was done everything was still there.
Yes! I have done everything. Rebooted computer, checked for updates, Hard booted iPad, Factory restored iPad to ios 5 twice, tried every usb port I have, unplugged all other usb components.
Everytime half way through "Restoring iPad from backup..." The iPad turns off shows a spinning circle then shows the Apple logo and takes me to the brand new iPad setup screen.
Apple, you have no idea the level of stress you have created today.....

Check the console app to see if there are any error messages. I had one app showing an issue (Pet Hotel) the error was (truncated):

  • HT4061 trying to restore a 3gs. keep getting 'activation server is temporarily un available'

trying to restore a 3gs. keep getting 'activation server is temporarily un available'

Generally this is a sign that the iPhone had previously been
hacked/modified/jailbroken and the update relocked it to the
original wireless carrier. If this is the case, only that wireless
carrier can unlock your iPhone. You must contact them to see
if they offer unlocking and if you qualify.
What wireless carrier did you use before this problem?
Does the app Cydia appear on your iPhone?
What does it say when you look at Settings=>General=>About=>Carrier?

I have gone into iTunes & it says I have to do a restore.  But it does not give me the RESTORE from Backup option.  Only the Restore to Factory Settings.  Is this normal?

Hi I am trying to restore my iphone from the itunes back and  it is asking me for a password, I don't ever remember putting a password in. how do i get the password reset?
You can't get it reset; if you could there would be no point in having it. If you have an encrypted backup there are two ways this could have happened:
You checked "Encrypt Backup" in iTunes at some time in the past, either intentionally or by accident
You have a corporate MS Exchange account and your Exchange administrator installed a security profile on your phone that requires the phone'a contents to be encrypted. This, in turn, requires the backup to be encrypted for obvious reasons.
In either case you were prompted for a password the first time you backed up after whichever of these happened. So think about what you might have entered for a password at that time. Fortunately you get an unlimited number of tries. Other threads on this subject have shown that it is always a password known to the user, so it wasn't something made up by iTunes. Also, everyone who has figured it out has found it to be a different password type, so try your Apple ID password, your computer's login password, your WiFi password, your corporate domain password, etc. And try passwords that may have been changed since your first backup. As a last resort there is a professional password cracker available, but it isn't cheap - it's targeted at the law enforcement market - from Elcomsoft. There are also some scam password crackers available that don't actually work and possibly steal your information. It's likely that a developer of one or more of these will post a response with a link (possibly hidden) to their "product". So before clicking any links you might want to install the Web of Trust plugin that keeps track of scam sites and warns you. http://www.mywot.com.

  • IPad (3rd Gen) activation server unavailable

    Morning all,
used my iPad 3rd Gen 3G (running iOS 6 GM Seed) happily yesterday night, loaded the battery overnight, and now, on 01 Oct 06:00 AM GMT i have it locked down, saying it needs activation. Proceeding through the mandatory steps ends up with a "activation servers unavailable" message (internet connectivity is fine). I retried it now for about an hour. The iPad is now unusable , rebooted it / hooked up to my Mac / iTunes etc  - won't help.
    Anyone else seeing this?

  • Error 23 trying to restore original iPad from iTunes

Pulled my original iPad out of my bag after returning from vacation and it had an alert on screen saying it required activation. It connected to my home wi-fi fine but failed when trying to activate. After a bunch of retries it went in to recovery mode.
I installed latest iTunes (I'm on Windows 8.1 Pro) and started the restore process. However at the stage where it states it's verifying the restore with Apple (or something to that effect) it fails with the following message:
The iPad "iPad" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (23).
I'm stuck. Tried everything I can think of. Any ideas?

That may be due to a problem preventing your computer from communicating with Apples servers.
