How do you move movies and music to ipad mini ios 7 from linux computer?

I hope that someone can please help. I have two children, ages six and 10. They previously used nabis but I've bought them both ipad minis. They would like to put their movies and music on them. They would like to be able to watch movies when we take a long car ride, etc. They have wifi versions and no 4g so they would be away from an internet connection. They have movies ripped from dvds they own, and music from ripped disney cds. They do not have a working portable dvd player anymore as it has been a long time since they needed one. They have a "boom box" style cd player but not handy for a car. The thing is, they both want to do different things in the back seat.
I only have linux (kubuntu 13.10) on our laptops and desktops.
I know that there are only a few file formats that the ipad can read for music and movies, but converting those isn't a problem.
I tried buying a "dongle" for a micro sd card, but that didn't work. At least I couldn't figure out how to make it work. The ipad would never recognize it.
Everything on the web said to just use the music software on the linux pc, such as Banshee, etc. But when I plug in the ipad mini to the computer I get a loop of "trust this computer?" that just keeps happening. I see that is a common thing now.
I tried installing itunes in a virtual drive on my laptop, but I could never get it to work. I progressed back through several versions of itunes and tried using PlayOn linux but it never worked.
I have never used itunes so I don't really know how it works. Is there anyway to upload to it through a web browser or something like that?
I tried an ap for the ipad called "file master." WIth that, I could send mp3 and movie files to the ipad through a web browswer based connection on wifi. The ipad could open the music and movie inside that ap, but could not see it through the music or video player aps, those said that itunes was empty. The problem with this is that it crashes. It will play a few seconds of a song and crash to the home screen. Some songs it plays OK, others it crashes as soon as you click. This isn't going to work well for kids in the back seat.
In the "file master" ap I can see folders for things like "music" and "downloads," and I can move files around in those directories, but the built in music and video aps never see the files.
I tried drop box. That works OK. Again, music will play inside the drop box ap, but the ipad doesn't "see" the music in the music ap. The problem here is that I only have about 3 gigs worth of drop box space, and I bought my son as 64 gig ipad mini. I'd like to be able for him to use that space. So this is limited by the space of the drop box account. So not a great solution. But at least a partial solution.
I can't find an ipad ap for ubuntu one.
I tried icloud, but there doesn't seem to be anyway to upload files to it from the pc.
There is something called "icloud match" that is $25. I get the impression that this looks at the songs you have ripped from your own cds and matches those to the itunes store and lets you download from there. Would this work? I'm kind of grumpy about the idea of paying $25 to see if it will let me move my own files to my own tablet.
I've tried several other aps from the ap store that were music players, but they all seem to be looking for itunes. I could not get any to find an mp3 file that I moved to the ipad through the "file master" ap.
So, I can't get itunes to work, and I can't get the ipad to connect to a computer.
Surely there has to be some way to do something as simple as move a file to a tablet. I'm afraid there must be some simple answer that I'm just overlooking so I've come to beg for help.

Just in case anyone in a similar situation finds this by google or something in the future.
I found a work around.
I think that my troubles with the file master ap were probably from mp3's that got corrupted in the transfer.
I went back and tried it again and it has been working flawlessly to transfer music and movies.
It is a free ap from the ap store.
When you open it, it gives a url for the ipad that you open in a web browser and just upload the files you want moved.
You just watch the video or listen to the music from the file master ap itself. It doesn't integrate it into the stock aps.
The up-side is that you don't have to worry about the limitations on video files, it plays multiple video formats.
The downside is that it is transferring the files through wifi so it is as slow as Christmas.
But it isn't a problem really just to send a batch of files over. Just be patient.
So a usb connection would be much faster and preferable, but this works.

I am a relative novice to web building and QT, and have a problem that should be easy for SOMEONE out there to help me with...
I am hearing from TOO many PC people that they can not view my video (.mov, @40mb) on my website. Some hear the sound but see no images, some see or hear nothing.
I have a report from someone with XP Pro that it is just fine, but his XP Home gives him just sound. I have a "savvy PCer" who has no problem at all. Most get a quicktime error, need ActiveX enabled or get no message (or video) at all.
I want to either put up a format that as many Mac and PC users as possible can see, or, I can put a "click here if you are on a PC" button to take them to a new page with a better format for these people.
I would prefer the viewer NOT have to download ANYTHING to view the movie... Cause nobody really wants the hassle of that, and these are potential clients.

As mentioned by the good folks above, you're embedding your movie, but you're not telling the browser which plugin to use. Also, for Internet Explorer, you need to use an <object> element and pass in additional <param>s. below is some code that should work for you. It uses both <object> and <embed> for maximum compatability:

1. type specifies the MIME type of the streaming media so that the web browser knows which plugin to play the streaming media with. Do not change the value of this parameter.

3. height refers to the media display height in pixels. If this parameter is not provided, the media will display using its actual hieght. When used it is important to remember to add 16 pixels to the height value if the controller bar will also be used.
4. width refers to the media display width in pixels. If this parameter is not provided, the media will display using its actual width.
5. src refers to the URL or location of the reference movie. The URL can be relative or absolute.
6. scale is an optional value that will scale the media display according to the height and width specified multiplied by the value given. The default value is 1 (i.e. 1x). If you used a 2, the display would be twice as big as the height and width specified (i.e. 2x). You can also use the values "tofit" and "aspect". "tofit" will stretch or compress (change the apsect of) the movie to fit the height and width specified. "aspect" will fit the movie as closely as possible to the height and width specified without changing its aspect ratio.
7. controller is an optional parameter that will not display the controller bar if the value given is "false". The default value is "true". When displayed, the controller bar will use 16 pixels from the value provided in the height parameter.
8. autoplay is an optional parameter that will cause the media to not automatically play if the value given is "false". The default value is "true".
The <embed> element and its parameters are supported by most web browsers except for Internet Explorer. This is why the <embed> element is nested inside the <object> element. Notice that the <object> element has its own height and width parameters. Also, the <object> element contains classid and codebase parameters which are required for your media to work properly inside of Internet Explorer. Do not change the values of classid and codebase.
The <param> elements are used to pass additional parameters to Internet Explorer along with the <object> element. Notice that each of the <param> elements duplicate the remaining parameters provided in the <embed> element with the exception of the type and pluginspage parameters, which are specific to the <embed> element. Help me understand how to move pdf's between iPad and MacBook.

I use the iPad 2 as a electronic reader of research articles. When reviewing this material I desire to keep the annotations I make to the pdf via the PDFReader app. I review enough material that I need the MacBook as a storage space. But I haven't been able to figure out how to move pdf's that I've made annotations to, to the MacBook while maintaining the annontations I've made. These annotations are maintained while the file is stored on the iPad.
It seems as though for files not generated by Numbers, Keynote, or Pages the iCloud sharing of files between devices is a bit of a gimmick. I'm using Mountain Lion and iOS 5.1.1. Suggestions???

Yes, if you drag from the iPhoto Window to the desktop you’re getting the current (edited) version of the pic. You’re also missing any added metadata, such as keywords etc.
Yes, when you import to the other library you are missing the original file too.
The only way to move pics/albums/Events (including metadata) between Libraries (and all versions) is with iPhoto Library Manager.

Can anyone help, when I test my movie and when it is uploaded it comes out about 60% of the original size. how can I stop this?

When I test the movie or upload it to the server i comes out about 60% of the full size. I do not have it scaled with the window size and I have tried everything I can think of to get it to 100%. Why should it come out smaller? I am using an iMac and CS4 professional.

I'm creating my annual year in review trivia contest for a party we're having this weekend. I've done lots of importing, editing, questions, sounds, etc. I exported the video using the "expert" settings, to apple TV. About 8 minutes into it, it locks up on a video clip (i.e. a still frame look) but the audio keeps going as it should. But the video just hangs.
I'm not sure if this is related, but I was downloading a bunch of stuff off youtube and it was saving in a .flv format. Early on I was converting these to another format to work with the programs. But then I found that the .flv format would import straight into imovie and I could see the clips and edit them just fine. Now I'm wondering if somehow these flv clips are causing a hiccup in the export process?
I've already edited everything so I'd really like to avoid re-importing these bad clips again. If I have to do that I'll probably throw in the towel as it will be too much work to duplicate.
Is there a way around this problem?

Thanks much for the note. I think maybe you were responding to my other post about chapters rather than this post about the video sticking? Not sure.
Since making this post I experimented with deleting the video file that was the one getting "stuck" on the converted video. Since deleting that video, the movie will publish correctly. So I think I fixed that one. Must have had a corrupt file or something.
Since that other post about chapter markers I've imported the movie to IDVD, used IDVD to generate a DVD folder, then used handbrake to convert it. That seems to be working though I think there should be a quicker way to do this using only imovie HD.
Your idea is one I hadn't thought of....regardless of which problem you are addressing (this post about the video being stuck, or my other post about chapter markers), I'm not sure how this resolves either problem though. Sorry if I'm missing the obvious.

Help, i made a terminal command and i don't know how to undo it.

i found my long lost folder of terminal commands.. and i forgot what this one did, so i clicked it (i made the commands into a "unix executable file").. and all my files on my desktop are now hidden.. the only way to find them is to type in the file name into finder.
the command i typed in was

chflags hidden ~/Desktop/*
done
and now everything on my desktop is gone, and i dont know how to undo it, I undid once about 3 months ago when i wrote it, but i forgot what i did. I tried counterering the command with others but it isn't doing anything. thank you
edit: i know this command cant destroy my system because it wasn't a sudo, but still, i had all my class work on my laptop and now it's all invisible

Some are reporting that logging out and back into your account again will resolve this. However if your problem persists:
Select the content which is causing a problem and use the 'Report a problem' button in Your Purchase History on your computer.
Currently, if your purchase happens to be your most recent purchase you will need to click the large ‘Report A Problem’ button under the list of previous purchases in order to reveal the ‘Report A Problem’ link for your recent purchase. If your purchase is listed as a previous purchase use the small arrow on the left side of its listing.
Alternatively you can use the receipt email to report a problem.

Ony the 4G iPod can play HD movies. The iPad can play HD movies. Could the movies that do not play on yuyr iPod be because they are HD and you have a 3G or earlier iPod?

After a reset of settings on IPad2 it turns "on" but i only get to the logo screen with the progress bar under it. so it turns on to logo then to progress bar screen then off. and repeats over and over

Well as I said in the "question", I did a reset of the settings on my IPad2. however when it powered back on from resetting. it lets the the logo screen with the progress bar under it. The progress bar gets about 1/4 of an inch from the left then stops. After a few mins Ipad shuts off then turns on to the logo screen, then goes to the logo/progress bar screen, does whats said above, then off. That cycle just repeats over and over. Any help with this would be appreciated.
