Help! I moved a folder and it disappeared!

I do hope somebody can help -- and soon! I'm afraid to reboot or anything now. :(
In my Local Folders, I had a folder called "RESOURCES", which contained a variety of subdirectories, including one called "Software" (which also contained subdirectories) which had various info on my installed software such as receipts for purchase, serial numbers, etc.
Well, that folder was starting to get rather large, so i thought I'd move it up a level, out of "RESOURCES" and just as a folder right off the "Local Folders" root. It seemed to move at first, but then I quickly realized that all the emails in that folder up and disappeared! If I go in Windows Explorer, I can see the folders (in two places now!), but they just don't show up in Thunderbird. I've tried all kinds of things, and now I can't get anything to show in Thunderbird -- no "Software" folder, nor any of it's subdirectories (let alone any emails, despite my being able to see the folders in Win. Explorer.
I've tried repairing the folders and various other things, but just can't seem to get it back -- I've now made a backup copy of the folders/files that I do have, though. It seems that somehow Thunderbird doesn't want to recognize those folders as "folders" anymore (never mind their contents), simply because I moved them. :(
Obviously something got corrupted, but how can I fix it?

Can you find
Local Folders folder
->'Resources' as a file
If yes, simply copy it to a location elsewhere to Thunderbird profile, install the import export tools https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/importexporttools/ and import the mails (That file is the actual mail, everything else is not needed to recover the actual folder content.)

  • Moving itunes folder and music to external drive

I moved my itunes folder and all my mp3's onto an external hard drive. As a result, all of the songs that appear in itunes has a ! and says they cannot find where the songs are. It seems that I have to re-import everything all over again including re-ripping all my CD's to itunes again. Is there a better way to go about retrieving my library? Is there a way to import what is on my ipod into itunes or is it only a 1 way thing? Please help.

Go to edit-->preferences Click the advanced tab
Change the location of the iTunes music library to the current location. I don't recall if it will then update the links. If they still show up with the ! after the change, post back for instructions on how to tell iTunes they are there all at once.

  • Please Help! Outlook Today Loads and Then Disappears Within 1-2 Seconds

    Hello,
I have been using Outlook 2007 since January of 2012 on this computer with no issues. One day I came in and my outlook today page was completely blank which it is normally full. I really depend on having this feature which allows me to have all of my information
up front. I have tried several steps over the last couple weeks and can not fix it.
    I have tried;
    1. Restarting the computer & restarting the program
    2. Downloaded and imported my pst file from outlook exchange
    3. Ran the ScanOST and ScanPST applications with no results
    4. Uninstalled and reinstalled the program
The weird thing is I can see the information and it is accurate (ie. tasks, calendar events, messages in inbox) however it will disappear within 1-2 seconds of loading the program. Also if I click on calendar or inbox and then back to outlook today it will
load again for another 1-2 seconds and then disappear.
I also have a laptop running the same installer of outlook 2007, on the same network in my office, and outlook today works perfect on it, however I rely on my desktop to get my work done.
Please any help will be greatly appreciated!

Sounds like you did everything I can think of but here are a few other suggestions:
-Right click the folder where outlook today is and choose data file properties and then Home page. Click Restore Defaults
    -Disable any Add-ins
    -Remove any PST files
    -Recreate your outlook profile
-Start Outlook in safe mode (which disables add-ins) by going to a run line and typing outlook.exe /safe.
    -Rename outlwvw.dll to outlwvw.old.  The file is located in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\1033 or C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office12\1033

  • Repaired inbox folder and messages disappeared

Some inbox messages were corrupted so I clicked "repair folder". All messages prior to the one highlighted went away. Dropped from 1500+ messages to 46. Using POP3 and messages are still on server. Have successfully repaired folder many times. How did this happen? Can I recover the missing messages? Thank you.

your right, synchronization and storage is an IMAP only thing.
If your mail is still in your web mail, you can force a full download of POP mail by deleting the popstate.dat file from the accounts folder in your profile.
Help menu (alt+H) > Troubleshooting information and click the open folder button.
CLose Thunderbird, open the mail folder in explorer window that opened and then the folder names for the accounts server. Delete popstate.dat and restart Thunderbird. Delete the wrong one and you get more mail that you bargained for, nothing else.
Now to the cause here. I have no definitive answers. It is generic and full of assumptions. Common causes are the quarantining of the mail file by the anti virus program, or an attempt by such a program to excise one email from the file and not updating the index. Concurrency issues, again often involving anti virus trying to scan the file while is is being written by thunderbird. My solution is to exclude the Thunderbird profile folder and it's children from "on access" scanning, leaving scanning to the weekly or monthly scan and ensuring that all folders are compacted and IMAP accounts expunged before that scan, to ensure that email marked as deleted has actually been removed from the file before it is scanned.

  • User folder and library disappeared?

Very strange... I have an Intel iMac 6 which did something in the "holy crap" category tonight. May have to call Cupertino tomorrow but thought I'd try here first.
I restarted my computer from the pull down menu after quitting a RAM hogging program (Transmission) because I was getting ready to do some work in iWeb and that can be pretty RAM intensive too. The computer wasn't acting up in any way.
When it started up, my desktop pic was gone, which I thought odd. Then I noticed all the files I had on my desktop were gone, too. I tried to go to system prefs, and it wouldn't open. Tried to open iPhoto and it acted like this was the first time I was using it, with set up menus popping up. Further exploration showed all software I installed wasn't showing up and all applications factory installed were giving my set up menus when I launched them.
However, "get info" on the hard drive shows less than 200G of the 500G available, so the files must be there SOMEWHERE. Disc utility shows "vol 1 needs repair," but it won't let me select "repair disk." I repaired permissions with no effect.
Under "users," my icon is just gone, as if no user was ever set up on the computer.
Why would it go back to factory settings on a restart?

    OK,
Since my last post I have run Disk Utility by booting from the OSX disk first, which said vol needs repair. I clicked repair and the list of things it did was extensive, but supposedly, repair was successful. Well, the symptoms didn't change.
So, I ran Tech Tool again booting from the disk. Volume Structure continues to fail, so I clicked repair. Symptoms persist, except now my home folder is back, but all the subfolders are empty. There is a folder marked lost + found with subfolders labeled by number, but if I click on those, I get a "no application specified... etc" message.
Spent an hour on the phone with tech. Booted in safe mode. She had me try a few things and Clicking get info on highlighted hard drive still shows just under 200G of the 500G available, but highlighing my home folder and clicking get info shows only 24G in that folder. Weird. She thinks we are at the point of needing to do an erase and reinstall. I'd like to avoid that- have had to do it twice since purchasing the machine in March. She suggested I take it in. I swear, I have owned 7 macs and all the issues I ever had with any of them added together wouldn't equal the headaches I've had with this machine. I thought the last reinstall fixed the problem because I've been trouble free for a month, now this.
So, I followed Pe Bakk's instructions. Here were the results.
    Welcome to Darwin!
    wendy-donahues-computer:~ RedWrath$ cd/users
    -bash:cd/users:No such file or directory
    wendy-donahues-computer:~RedWrath$ is -IA
    bash: is: command not found
BTW I am working on my iBook and only troubleshooting on the iMac as I don't want to inadvertently make the problem worse by setting up any of the applications all over again. Any application I try to open still gives me the setup screen.
Two more weird things. If I try to use the Finder's drop down menu to log out, it gives "Log out Wendy Donahue" as an option, but if I click on it, nothing happens. Also, if I try to go to System Preferences, nothing happens. If I go to applications to try clicking on the System Preferences icon, it doesn't appear like the light switch/panel thingy it usually is. There is a generic application icon titled System Preferences.
Very strange, I will call to make an appointment to take it in but I'm willing to try some more troubleshooting before it goes.

  • I have Win7Pro64, tried to Un-Install Firefox control panel, no luck, tried running helper.exe from Uninstall folder and it says "Not a Valid Win-32 Application" What gives?? Just want to update to 3.6.4 and that didn't work either so I'm trying to remove

Running Win7Pro64. Tried to update to 3.6.4 and it failed. It said to download the whole program so I did. Tried to install and says that the "License File" is missing. SO I go to un-install 3.6.3 myslef with Control Panel. All that did was remove Firefox as a listed program in control panel, all of it is still there in Explorer and it runs fine. So I go to use Helper.Exe under the Uninstall folder of Mozilla Firefox and when I click that, it says "Not a Valid Win-32 Application" What's up with that?? All I want to do is remove 3.6.3 so that I can clean install 3.6.4. I tried installing 3.6.4 two different ways with failures both times. I tried to remove 3.6.3 using two different ways, and that also failed both times.
    == This happened ==
    Just once or twice
== I tried updating to 3.6.4. It failed both with the update and the full download, so tried to un-install 3.6.3 in control panel, then helper.exe with no luck.

You don't want to update to 3.6.4, trust me. Stay with 3.6.3. If you need to download it again you can find it here:

  • Moved Itunes folder and everything is now gone - how can I recover it?

My C drive was low on disk space - so tonight I sent alot of the files that were on the C drive (only 14 gigs total) to my D drive (140+ gigs w/ tons of room)because I was down to something like 200 MBs.
One of those folders happened to be the Itunes folder w/ the files Itunes music library (xml doccument), Itunes library (Itunes music database file), and Itunes music
I didn't delete anything - and all the files seem to be intact just as they were before - only on my D drive now. Unfortunatly this caused 8 gigs of music to be deleted from my itunes which took me hours to organize
Is there any way to restore my Itunes back to what it was?
Thanks in advance for any help or advice you can offer
    Dan

You will not have lost any of the orgainsiation (Playlists/Ratings etc) as long as you don't lose the iTunes library file.
You can re-import the songs from your D: drive, but it would create a different library file (since the library file tells iTunes where all the songs are kept - and this has changed).
If you did it this way, you would keep all the song info (Artist/Name/Genre/CD Cover etc.) but lose your ratings and Playlists.
Just thought of a better way to do this.
Copy your iTunes library file (its v small) back to your C: drive in its previous location.
Go to itunes Preferences (possibly called 'options' on Windows version) and go to the 'Advanced' tab. In the General tab within this, there is an option to change your iTunes music folder location. Hit change and browse to where your music is now stored. This way, your music should appear back in your iTunes library, all playlists intact and all ratings/tags as they were before

  • Help in moving bdump, udump and cdump

I have been asked to move the dump directories in a database. the path they point to is incorrect. how do I make this move so that they are located at a new path. OS is linux, database is 9i (9208)
    thanks

I have been asked to move the dump directories in a
database. the path they point to is incorrect. how do
I make this move so that they are located at a new
path. OS is linux, database is 9i (9208)
thanksI don't quite understand your requirement. Is the problem
    1) The parameters don't point at valid directories? or
    2) The directories are valid - but in the wrong place?
In both cases you will want to update the relevant initialisation parameters which are respectively
    background_dump_dest
    user_dump_dest
core_dump_destIn the second case you'll also likely want to move the os files - using the os mv command, but I'd rename the old alert.log file when moving it.

  • I was typing in the reminder folder and it disappeared and can not get it back do u know how to get it back?

    L,
If you are asking about your iOS device, you might get a better response in the iOS IWork discussion area. This is the Mac area.
Chances are your document is still somewhere on your device, it's just a matter of where to look. Have you tried using the global Search feature. On a Mac you would use either Spotlight or Finder.

  • Trying to move files into a new folder and th finder folders disappear and show latest open application

I did not have this problem running the beta. I upgraded to the shipping version yesterday and whenever I try to move a file or application into another folder, both folders disappear, the desktop screen flashes, then I see the finder folders behind whatever application I had open last sitting on top of the finder window. If I let go of the mouse nothing moves and the windows close.
2013 MacBook Pro 13" retina, 10.10 shipping version

I'm having the same or similar issue...  I think...  trying to do a little house cleaning in the file structure.  For example, in our events folder I'm creating archive folders (i.e. - 2004, 2005, ect...) and when I use the Files Panel to drag and drop the past event pages into the newly created archive folder, the pages loose all their links.
Image link prior to and after moving are the same (../images/logo1.gif)
It does ask me to confirm that I want to move the file but nothing about updating the links.  Is it due to the way the files are linked in the original files?
Thanks in advance for any help!!!

  • In my RH8 project, I have a disappearing folder and one, un-removeable, permanent folder ???

I am using RH8 with both updates installed on a Win XP system.  As you might know from my other postings, ignorance (my own and mine alone) has caused several problems for me.  I did not know that the folders in the RH Project Manager were pseudo-folders.
Okay, here's what I did first and I think I understand what RH did in response.  I wanted to create separate folders for each major sub-division in the Help project and segregate the images for those topics, also.  I tried creating a "subdiv_1_topics" folder with a "subdiv_1_images" folder as a subfolder.
I could not get RH to generate WebHelp with any files in these sub-topic and sub-sub-image folders.
I tried to return to the "status quo" by deleting the folders I had created.  However, I have never been able to delete one of the image folders.  It is nested in the RH Images folder but my images folder (lower case i) is now the MAIN images folder.
I learned about this, the very hardest way.  I discovered that I could move image files, one-at-a-time, from my images folder up to the RH Images folder.  I thought I was putting the images back where they belonged but I was wrong.
On my local drive, RH was moving each image out of the Images folder and was putting it into the root with all the topic htm files and RH files. I did not notice this and I went completely through the WebHelp generation process and our process of moving the generated files from the WebHelp folder to our SVN repository.  Then, I left for the evening.
Next morning, first thing, my boss and I were both apoplectic when we discover that all of the images are gone from the Help topics. A quick check of Windows Explorer and the RH folder/file explorer showed what had happened.  I spend the next 3 hours moving all the images, one-at-a-time, from the topics area back to my images folder under the RH Images folder.
I have left them alone since ... NOW, the NEW EVENT:  I wanted to create a folder just for a few topics that had been prepared in advance for future application enhancements.  I was going to ask this forum if there was a way to block RH8 from touching that folder when I generated WebHelp ... I noticed a dfferent problem.  The folder that I created is gone from RH but in the right place in Windows Explorer.  I am baffled.  In summary, in a perfect world, I would have the RH HTML Files (Topics) folder with just the HTM files and all the attending RH files.  Then, as either a sub-folder to the topics folder, or as an equal folder, I would like a place to put these several files for future use, with the folder protected from WebHelp generation until I say so.  This is just for convenience.  Then, I would like to have the RH Images folder with all the project images but no sub-folder where the images lie right now.
Feel free to contact me off this forum.  Sorry, if I am too breezy here.

Sorry Ernie that wasnt the problem, i highlight the folder and REBUILD is greyed out
I highlight INBOX and select REBUILD it does something to INBOX and APPLE HOT NEWS folders, but does nothing to any of the  other folders.
yeah, that is the only folder with a problem.
getting a little frustrated now, i created another "mailbox" inside that Mailbox/folder and of course the little triangle displays the new folder when turned one way and hides it when turned the other way.
it seems as if i accidentally at an earlier time i created a new folder inside this folder and deleted it, possibly with the emails still it, and it hasnt updated the number of unread emails LOL.
i reckon i will just delete the darned thing all together and get on with life without any emails from "jeanie jeanie", i havent heard from her for ages anyways.

  • HT203288 guys, my itunes songs and folders disappeared? it's as if i went to itunes for the 1st time ever. i had 3,400 songs! No longer there!?!?!?!? PLEASE HELP!!!

guys, my itunes songs and folders disappeared? it's as if i went to itunes for the 1st time ever. i had 3,400 songs! No longer there!?!?!?!? PLEASE HELP!!!

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

  • Whilst moving location of iTunes to external hard drive, I lost my iTunes Media folder and now it can't find my media files

Whist moving my iTunes folder to an external hard drive, (I was following this post: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1364) I seem to have accidentally deleted the itunes Media folder - I misread the last action point!
All the files transferred to the external hard drive as I can see them and I am able to copy them into itunes, but only links, and they're still organised.
Can anyone help me restore the folder structure so itunes can see the music?
I added a new cd to itunes so I could see where it is now saving music and it created a new folder where the music now resides (I guess as a deleted the file structure from previous it needed to create a new one). I thought I would be able to copy and paste the old music into this newly created fold but it doesn't seem to have worked.
Any advice on what I should do would be greatly received

  • Help! I moved my songs, and now my library is empty

I just moved all my music from the My Music folder on my hard drive onto my external HD, and I followed all the directions in the iTunes Help file. But when I restarted iTunes, the entire library was empty.
Is there a step here I'm missing? How do I get iTunes to recognize where my library is? I already went into the Preferences -> Advanced menu and changed the location of the library, but it still doesn't show up.
I'd hate to have to manually re-import all the songs (well over 1000 files). Any help would be greatly appreciated!
HP zv5000   Windows XP   iTunes 7.0.2

I just did the same exact thing (but recovered!). I hope you didn't empty your recycle bin/trash yet! Your library information is there - get it out!
The instructions on the web are a bit obtuse - what you need to do is delete ONLY the "iTunes Music" folder within the default iTunes location; I deleted the ENTIRE "iTunes" folder and saw exactly what you do now. You need to restore the "iTunes Library.itl" and "iTunes Music Library.xml" files, and you'll be back in business.
Not sure how you'll recover if you can't get those files back...
