Help! I need a new ThinkPad!
Hi, The time has come that I require a new ThinkPad. I am so glad I stumbled upon this forum, so I have no fear of people trying to suggest other laptops. I'm not interested.
My first one was an iSeries ThinkPad, still the most beautiful computer I have ever seen, with the best keyboard I have ever used. It eventually became too slow for my needs. I currently have a T42, and it has the same problem: too slow. Otherwise, it meets my needs quite fine.
I had a tough time deciding on a replacement, but I ultimately went with the ThinkPad Edge (E530). It's very fast, and I like it in its own way, but it has two major problems:
1. It is not a classic ThinkPad, but an impostor!
2. It has Windows 7, not XP.I thought I should buy the fastest and newest ThinkPad available, but I didn't really understand what my needs would be for university. I now realize that for my day-to-day needs, a computer with an i7 processor, HDMI output, USB 3.0, and a fingerprint reader is not necessary. What is more important is a computer that I will be able to love, which to me means it runs Windows XP, has a square screen" (4:3 aspect ratio), and is an actual ThinkPad (meaning it radiates beauty and doesn't have a chiclet keyboard).
So what I am looking for is the fastest ThinkPad available that meet my needs (or wants rather). If I have to downgrade from Windows 7 or Vista, that is okay, but I'd rather not have to bother.

The last 4:3 ThinkPad available on this continent was T61. They are more than powerful enough to run *any* OS, and will do great with XP.
Stay away from models with nVidia graphics since these chips have a manufacturing flaw that wreaked havoc on many Dells, HPs, Macs as well as on R61/T61 series ThinkPads. If you have low gaming requirements, Intel integrated graphics will do just fine.

Which particular model are you after? if the T400, T500, W500 and R400/R500 is okay for you, then head to outlet.lenovo.com.

Help is needed with new Lenovo Laptop!
Hey anyone reading this I just opened my Christmas present early as we decided to do before travels and I received a new Lenovo B570. I like it and everything but I game alot and that requires the use of the mouse and keys at the same time, but when I am moving the mouse around and then hit any key it freezes the mouse there until I let go of the key. So if anyone knows a solution or how to help please let me know. Help of anykind is greatly appreciated.

I'm tearing my hair out! I need a display which will work with my Macbook Pro, which is a year old. Sadly I can't get the 24" Apple Cinema Display because my Macbook Pro doesn't have a mini DisplayPort so it's not compatible.
I need a good quality screen with good resolution because I am a designer and will be doing Photoshop work. I did loads of research and found out that screens with S-IPS technology were the best. However, they are few and far between. I thought I had found my perfect screen in the LG W2600H, then discovered it had no speakers or stereo jacks.
What am I looking for?
Good quality screen and resolution - professional quality, but not necessarily artworking standard.
S-IPS if possible.
Prepared to pay up to £500 for an excellent screen.

I don't recommend getting this laptop because of all the problems i see on the forums daily. Mostly Screen problems. If i were you and this was not an extreme necessity i would hold out till they get all the bugs out. -
Help! Need a new keyboard for my mid-2010 MBP
Someone spelt some beer on the keyboard, tried to clean with no luck, need new keyboard assy. Everything else works OK!

Help - I need a new audio interface!
I need an audio interface - PCI, Firewire or USB-2 - with a bunch of inputs and outputs (min. 6 in, 4 out), a couple of universal XLR/minijack input jacks with good pre-amps and, here's the clincher, separate level controls for headphones and monitor output.
Does anyone know of anything that suits my needs?you might shop around for an M-audio Firewire 1814, which meets all of your requirements (225£). Or if you're looking for more of a mixer, check out the Tascam US-122; it's a mixer with USB connectivity to your mac.
As for functionality as reliability, i've only heard good things about the firebox and firepod, but they do seem a little outpriced per feature compared to the m-audio line. The thing that i admire (i don't own any yet - can't make up my mind) about the firewire 1814 is the dual headphones. couple that with it's inputs/outputs (go on and bus that mix directly to 2" tape, why don't you?) and you've got a powerful little box. That said, if the Presonus had dual headphones (their hoping you buy their headphone mixer, maybe), I'd put it on the top of my list.
Since there are a few (really good) options out there, it might be helpful to have people weigh in about why they chose the models that they chose to drop their cash on. How well do the devices work with GB2? Any driver instalbilities? that sort of thing. -
Just got a new iMac today. Got it all set up and was running great, but somehow I couldn't remember my administrator password. Followed directions to reset it via the install disk. After I did this, now computer wont restart. It just goes to white sceen with wheel turning below apple logo. I have tried to reboot by powering up while holding down option key. Then clicking on hard drive symbol that pops up...but still nothing. Now the last time I tried it, when computer restarted, it made a funny audio tone before the normal start up sound. Any ideas?

Cleaning up my new Thinkpad need help with what to Uninstall
So I finally got my new thinkpad T520 set up with Windows 7 and I currently have all the prepackaged Lenovo Programs and thinkvantage tools installed. I am trying to optimize my system right now and I am wondering which programs I should keep and which I should delete.
I already have Revo uninstaller, CCleaner, and ESET NOD32 smart security antivirus so I already have some good utilities to clean my system.
Basically if anyone could help me determine which lenovo programs to keep and which to uninstall I would be very greatful. I dont need this computer to be a screamer, but I would like a stable computer that is as fast as possible.

truthfully, Lenovo's factory load is lighter than most every other OEM load i've worked with.
if you want to further optimize your machine's running state, you should have a look at the blackviper site to dig through your running Windows services. even if you choose not to modify anything, it's quite educational. http://www.blackviper.com/
you can also go through your system's start-up programs and what-not. apps like acrobat reader install update checkers that load at every boot and run in the background. i like a Microsoft tool named Autoruns for this task. it's part of the Sysinternals suite. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-US/sysinternals

I have been editing a document on my MacBook Pro and iPad, which has the newer versions of Pages. Now, I cannot open on My MacBook. It says I need a newer version of OS. However, I'm not showing a newer version being availabe!!! Can anyone help???
That is Pages for iPad v2.0, which Pages '09 v4.3 can't read.
You need to either stick with the older version of Pages on the iPad or get Pages 5 for the Mac which is only available if you are running OSX 10.9 Mavericks.
Unfortunately that is not the end of your woes because Apple has made iCloud convert the files to Pages 5 now, and Pages 5 has over 90 features deleted on top of doing a shocking job of converting older Pages files.

My phone 5s 16gb gold did the new update and will not come back on. I already tried hard reboot still won't work. Been over a hour now. Please someone help I need my phone. This phone is not even 6 months old been in case no scratches. This is driving me crazy.

Went to open a file in words and got message. "You need a newer version of Pages to open this document." I have latest version. All other files in words open w/o a problem. Please help.

Pages 5.2 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5.2 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Older versions of Pages 5 can not open files from later versions of Pages 5.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Anything that is saved to iCloud and opened in a newer version of Pages is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Apple has removed almost 100 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

In the new mail app for OSX v10.7 Lion it seems I can only setup my gmail account as an "imap", when I need to set it up as "pop"... PLZ HELP I NEED MY MAIL TO WORK!!!

Select Mail Contacts and Calendars
Then select Other
Then select "Add a Mail Account and click create
Then go to google for the settings you need:

I ordered an iPhone 5s in early September from the orange shop in Chamonix Mont-Blanc France.
I needed a new phone as i dropped my iPhone and broke it so it thought i would upgrade.
I was asked in the shop if I wanted a black or white one, I asked for a Black one, as all my iPhones have all been Black as I DON'T LIKE White ones. (sorry)
I was told my phone would arrive in a week so I waited with broken phone for new one. The following week I was told it would be the following week, the following week i was told the same but the assistant in the shop told me they would ring me when it arrived. Three days later i recieved a text from the shop to say the phone would be in tomorrow, when I went in they said it had not arrived and they would call me when it was in the shop.
They called me on Thursday the 17th of October to say the phone was in the shop.
I arrived at the shop at 6:00pm after my work, the shop closes at 7:00pm. I recieved the phone, signed for it and extra unwanted insurance with I was told I could only canceled in a month. I was then told they didn't have any sim cards in the shop, i said no problem the Phone i assume will need charging so i will take it home and charge it and return for the sim tomorrow.
So the Phone remained boxed.
When I returned home and opened the box I realised it was a white one, I replaced the lid put it back in the bag, and returned it to the shop first thing Friday 18th October, to point out the error, only to be told "to bad" ?? I was told I could have changed it the night before but not this morning? They said I had ordered a Black one but as I had signed for a White one nothing can be done. I was angry and left the shop. I returned later the same day with a French friend to try and resolve this problem, as I wasn't sure if something was being lost in translation. I didn't think I was being unreasonable, it is a very expensive piece of equipment and this wasn't what i wanted. They told my friend that the phone was not available in Black, that was the 5, and that the 5s was only available in silver and gold, and that mine was a silver one.
I then thought it was my mistake as it was a new phone. She put a sim in the phone put it in the box and I left for a business meeting only to arrive and see a Black iPhone 5s sitting on the table??
So I then returned back to the shop with the Black one and mine still all boxed and untouched to prove they had blatantly lied to me an hour ago, only to be told that there was nothing they were prepared to do.

A minor point, but it may avoid a little confusion if, instead of saying "black" in reference to the iPhone 5s, say "space gray":
