HELP! I need audio CD burning software that features "gain" control...

...that ISN'T Roxio Toast!
(I realise that this is not a question about iTunes specifically, but I wasn't sure where else to post this.)
I burn a lot of compilation CDs for the car, and for years I used Roxio's Jam 2.5 and 2.6 because they allowed me to adjust the gain (volume) of each track for consistent volume overall. The software was light on features but it worked reliably and predictably. (Supposedly Jam 2.6 works with OS X 10.6.x, but I never could get it to launch.)
I reluctantly purchased Toast Titanium (and have updated to 11.1), and while it technically works, the app is more than a little clunky, frustrating and half-baked. For example, the latest update appears to have fixed the "sticky" gain windows that would open far longer than needed, but now the software cannot navigate through ANY of my folders or hard drives after typing Command-O to open an existing Toast file. Pathetic! (Do they not test their own product at all?!)
Can anyone recommend any other software that was designed specifically for burning audio CDs that features at least gain and crossfade controls? I'd love nothing more than to ditch Roxio products once and for all!

I would recommend at least downloading the trial version of Sound Studio and trying it out. I work for Freeverse (the publishers of Sound Studio). I asked around, and there have not been any complaints about the pitch adjuster in the latest version 3.5.5, AFAIK. You can adjust the pitch and tempo independently.
The trial version is fully functional, and is only limited by the number of times you can launch the program (10 times).

Hello there photoshop users! So I am semi new to using photoshop. I havnt purchased software yet because I want to make sure I purchase the right one. My plan is to take the photos I have taken and edit them to make into t-shirts. For example...I have this picture of me as the Queen of hearts for Halloween and I want to make it look like i'm actually in wonderland. I also want to take images from the internet and contstruct interesting photos. Which photoshop software would be best for me? I'm excited to start this new hobby I just need some good advice. I hope by »take« you mean »purchase« or »use only within the bounds of so-called fair-use«.
I have no experience with Photoshop Elements but supposedly that has Layer and masking capabilities, too.
So, while I personally would recommend Photoshop, you could just download the free 30-day-trials for both Photoshop and Photoshop Elements to see which one meets your needs.
And Gimp has been getting some positive mentions, so if you want to go with freeware that would be another option – again I have no experience with that.

You should try to learn Labview basics before trying to tackle a Labview program. I'll give you a head start because you are probably under some time constraint. Try to code this and then ask for help when you need it.
To start you off, use a For Loop. Your graph will be finite, so wire in a reasonable number into the N terminal of the loop. Use the i terminal as your X input and calculate Y for each X. The output of the loop will be an array of Y values. You can graph those values.
Learn how to post your vi here. There are several ways. The best is to use Laabview 2009 and create a code snipet (look under the Edit menu). Then add the snipet to your post by clicking the Upload or Insert Image icon above (the icon looks like a tree). You can add the vi directley by clicking on Add Attachments below the Tags box. Be sure to state which version of Labview you are using.

Streaming video display in v.5 and v.6 is monochrome and distored while Ffox help indicates need to update Nvidia driver that is NOT supported by HP; so is there a Ffox fix or do I play Russian roulette with unapproved Nvidia driver updates?

For reference, this is HP PC laptop with AMD Turion64 running Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit with 2G memory and Nvidia Go 6500 series chip. Streaming videos from sites like Comedy Network work in basic format (showing color etc.) but when made full screen are monochrome and distorted (i.e. fill 2/3 page). Current driver number from Nvidia is in the 1.8x range while Ffox and Nvidia show a newer driver that is in the 2.x range but Nvidia warns that drivers should be approved by notebook manufacturer. Since Ffox 4 and previous worked fine, why the problem with Ffox 5 and 6?

Possibly there is another reason why the notebook crashes.
First of all you should check if new OS installation would help you on many cases the OS hangs or does not response due to damage registry entries or system files
If the notebook will still crash after new OS installation then you should check if it could be related to a higher temperature inside the notebook
Higher temperature could be one of the main reasons for such problems.
Usually you could avoid a higher temperature by cleaning the cooling fans and grilles You could use a compressed air spray in order to remove the dust and debris
Otherwise the notebook should be checked by an ASP technician I mean the G50 is one of the newest notebooks series and the warranty should be still valid so everything should be done for free!!

Need a java hashtable class that is more controlable

Hi,
I have a C hashtable code that I can easily remove an element in some specific bucket, and in some specific position of the linked list (for conflicted elelments). Also I can strictly specify the size of the hashtable, and the total elements in the hashtable.
However for java Hashtable class, it seems I don't have the flexibility to remove an element in some specific positions (like what I did in C) , also it seems I cannot exactly control the size of the hashtable.
Do I really need to translate my C code hashtable to my own Java Hashtable class to fulfill what I need? Or is there any better way to do it?

Sorry that I didn't explain my need clearly in the first message, let me try to do it now:
First, I need to fix the size of the hashtable because I don't want it consume too much of the memory. In my application, for example, I hope the maximum bucket size of my hash table less than 3000. And in each bucket, there are at most 10 conflicted elements are linked together, and they will be searched sequentially.
Second, if more elements need to be added to the hashtable but there are already 10 elements in the corresponding bucket, I would like to use some replacement algorithm like LRU, CLOCK to evict one element, and then put the new element there. This is the reason why I need to remove a specific element in a bucket.
Third, I wish the cost for lookup, add, remove is very low.
So should I use some other Java classes to implement my requirement, instead of using Java Hashtable class directly?

This is a copy of ONEof the keys in the registry I changed as told by Apple support today. I also have changed others as instructed by GEAR software support to manually delete GEAR drivers (that I had installed but couldn't delete some of the others they mentioned from Windows system 32. Then some bright spark at work told me I need the Gear drivers so I downloaded the software and installed again.

I keep getting the error: "Menu Encoding Error... need to stop burning process" when I attempt to burn a DVD

Very frustrating... I'm trying to burn a DVD and I've done it about 100 times before. I've checked the mapping for errors and found none. When I attempt to burn a DVD, the error mentioned above appears after a few minutes. I've tried to update all software, restart the computer, and use other DVRs. Any adivice would be most helpful. To be able to help we need more exact information and that You try out every suggestion as precise as possibly.
First step is as always - separate encoding from burn-process - By Save as a DiskImage from File menu in iDVD (as suggested by Old Toad)
If problem persists in encoding part then
• iDVD got a corrupted pref file - very common problem
• Space on Start-Up (Mac OS) hard disk get's too low to be able to store the temp. files from iDVD and Mac OS (can not be stored elsewhere)
• Material feed into iDVD - can not be digested as strange video codecs and audio files in .mp3 .wma and other exotic formats.
iDVD pref file - to find out if this is the problem - Easiest and most secure way is to - Create a new User-account and log into this. Re-try iDVD - If it now works OK then the problem is very close to 100% in the pref file. Either do Your work in the new Account or go back and trash the old pref file.
Space on Start-Up HD - I never go under 25Gb to let iDVD and Mac OS run OK
Material - Here You need to supply specific information
• Video - from what Camera - in what codec - If You can open a video file in QuickTime-Player then here open Inspector and read Video format/Codec: nnnnnnnn, size and frame rate - and tell us
• Audio - All audio I use is in .aiff 16-bit 48kHz (as from my miniDV Camera or 44.1 kHz as from Audio-CDs all other is converted to this. iTunes is even more problematic. Here I collect all needed audio into a new PlayList and this I BURN out as a standard Audio-CD (.aiff) (never .mp3) and in my movie projects I use the files from this CD.

Is there any software that will normalize sound volume?

I don't want to use Sound Check to normalize my whole library, and my library is too large to modify the volume on a song by song basis. What I need to find is software that can normalize the volume of a playlist, both while playing it on my Mac, and also when burning a playlist into an mp3 disk. Does such a program exist for Mac???

It depends on what “retouching” means. If you mean doing image-wide adjustments making things brighter and darker or changing the color-cast across the entire image then LR is ok for that. If it is about changing smaller areas of pixels, colorizing or cloning in other details, otherwise pushing pixels around, which is what I’d call retouching, then that’s a Photoshop operation.

What do you mean by this? What results are you looking for? List some of the results you would see in the report.
Are you saying you want to check the hd for problems?
Verify a disk
As an alternative, you can verify that the filesystem on the disk is correct. You will not be able to repair the file system.
I suggest that you use disk utility to verify that your startup disk is OK.
Macintosh-HD -> Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility
Start up disk utility. On the left pane view, you will see a list of all your disks.
Click on your startup disk.
Click on the First Aid Tab.
Click on verify.
Hopefully your disk will verify. If not, you have to boot from your installation DVD and run Disk Utility from there to attempt to repair your file-system.
